Yes but not within a browser if you ask that. There are some 3rd party utils which uses mpv for playing video. In this case video acceleration works and video plays smoothly. I know it's possible since I test to play a video from Youtube but I can't recall the name of the util.

youtube-dl and livestreamer

 

Edit: Also mpv player (may need youtube-dl too to work properly)

Should i choose Jessie vanilla or legacy? 

 

My cubietruck is used mainly as NAS device. But it should be capable to serve as a back up system if my main pc fails.
