I have this idea that I was researching on for a while. There are 5" FullHD LCD panels available on aliexpress for phones (HTC Drod DNA, HTC M7 etc.) as low as 15$, I thought about driving them with a controller board for interfacing HDMI (opi) <> MIPI DSI (lcd) but couldn't find that much about it.

 

There are DIY Oculus DK1 kits on ali selling for 240$ that includes these boards and a LCD, and there is a hackaday project that sells for 99$ only board. Any thoughts about a cheaper solution?
