Featured Replies

Hi

Could anyone assist me in getting sound output on my Tinkerboard S?
product: Rockchip RK3288 Asus Tinker Board S
v26.2.1 for Tinker Board running Armbian Linux 6.18.35-current-rockchip

$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono

No output on the connected earphones.
I don't know where to start to debug the problem.
Any aideas anyone?

Thanks
Chris

So it it this one: https://tinker-board.asus.com/series/tinker-board-s.html

In the log I see 'USB Audio', also HDMI audio and there is a 3.5mm jack. I am not sure what audio and what the goal is. HDMI audio on Rockchips can be tricky, I have seen simulator kernel problem messages, depends also on which bootloader.

Then I am not sure if on-board eMMC plays a role or not. The SD-card mmc0 is properly initialized but there is also mmc1 and mmc2

Can you post output of

sudo lsblk

And if eMMC is there, there might be old U-Boot there.

Further there is quite some repeated registerdumps, that is not a good sign, but don't really understand why that happens.

Hello, normally audio on Asus Tinkerboard works out of the box.

I have not tested HDMI audio for a long time because I don't have a suitable monitor. It should work, but I can't bet on it. Analog audio also should work.

You need to set the correct device to aplay because the default may be set to HDMI (or SPDIF).

The command aplay -L will give you the various ALSA outputs you can play on, find something like plughw:CARD=analog,DEV=0 and then use -D aplay flag to specify the device. You should get something similar to this:

aplay -D plughw:CARD=analog,DEV=0 my-audio-file.wav

Thank you jock!

After some trial and error

aplay -D hw:CARD=OnBoard,DEV=2  sound.wav

works.

Now I have to imagine how to play the sound via bluetooth...
