Rk3588 boards now share the same linuxfamily as rk3568 and rk3566 boards. It means rockchip-rk3588 kernel won't get update longer. Here is some steps for migration: sudo sed -i 's/LINUXFAMILY=rockchip-rk3588/LINUXFAMILY=rk35xx/g' /etc/armbian-release sudo apt update sudo apt install linux-image-legacy-rk35xx linux-dtb-legacy-rk35xx linux-headers-legacy-rk35xx sudo apt remove linux-image-legacy-rockchip-rk3588 linux-dtb-legacy-rockchip-rk3588 linux-headers-legacy-rockchip-rk3588 NOTE: The steps are currently for beta branch only. Don't try on stable branch.

I have recently accepted the 23.11.1 armbain kernel release on my RockPro 64 The update has not rebuilt or updated the uIntrd for the 6.1.63 kernel. My current setup is the tinkerboard powered by the raspberry pi universal adapter connected to ethernet and a external HDD(Maxtor M3) powered by the Tinkerboard's usb. I have used it very lightly in this configuration (ssh-ing into it and copying some files to the hdd) but from what I have gathered from the information available here this powering setup is inedequate and will lead to problems. So I want to follow the recommended method and power it through the GPIO pins. I am considering using this or this powersupply. (I realize 10A on the second one is overkill for the tinkerboard, but the price difference from the 3A rated one is minimal and I could find some othe…

I have a recently commissioned Radxa Rock-5B that I use as my PXE host. It has a number of iso images that are loopback mounted on directories like /var/www/html/mirrors/Fedora-44. I recently attempted an install of Fedora 44 on a VM and it crashed, complaining that it was unable to download a package from /var/www/html/mirrors/Fedora-44/Packages/p/parted-3.6-14.fc44.x86_64.rpm. I checked the directory on the Rock-5B and it was indeed missing but it was also giving me a lot of output that looked like -r--r--r-- 1 root root 264876 Feb 2 2026 policycoreutils-3.10-1.fc44.x86_64.rpm ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? policycoreutils-newrole-3.10-…

Hello all, I am running an Orange Pi 5 board with Armbian on a SD Card and I realized that my /var/log path is constantly full, with it being at /dev/zram1 It gets full at 50Mb with the file /var/log/samba/cores/smbd/core taking up all the space I have not managed to read this file, so I can't tell what kinds of errors are showing up. My OpenMediaVault and samba setup are running perfectly fine, and even though I delete this core file, it shows up again during reboot. I have tried to set enable core files = no in smb.conf With no sucess. The file continues to show up during reboot. Any ideas how to solve this? …

Board: Orange Pi 5 Plus (RK3588) Armbian image used: Downloaded from https://armbian.cn/boards/orangepi5-plus (Ubuntu 26.04, .img format) Comparison image: Joshua Riek's Ubuntu for Rockchip – https://joshua-riek.github.io/ubuntu-rockchip-download/boards/orangepi-5-plus.html Problem Description I downloaded the Armbian image for Orange Pi 5 Plus from the official Armbian page and flashed it to both a TF card and eMMC. The board fails to boot in either case. However, when I flash Joshua Riek's Ubuntu image using the exact same methods, the board boots successfully without any issues. I have an interesting discovery that smells suspiciously like a kernel bug. I find it easiest to see this bug by running btop which shows a historical per core cpu usage graph so it's easy to see when one stops being used. You can see the same thing in ordinary top but it's less easy to see than with btop. I have a Radxa Rock 5B with an RK3588 chip that I have been stress testing to make sure the hardware is OK before I start to use it in anger. As part of that I ran `openssl speed -multi 8` to spin up 8 threads using 100% cpu each. On all other machines that I've ever done that with it runs all X cores at 100% until it runs out of tests or is Ctrl-C'ed. Watch…

Hello, I have an orange Pi5, i had installed armbian a few years ago and everything was working fine. Roughly one year ago i turn it off and kept off until now. A few days ago I tried to turn it on again and i've inserted a new sd card containing armbian but it doesn't boot. I've re created the sd card a few times and also used another sd card because i was thinking something was wrong with the card. The board turn on but i got only the red led, and is stable. Searching on internet i found that maybe the Orange Pi is bricked, so i tried to use the MaskRom and Recovery button, but nothing happen. Also i'm not able to see the board inside the RKDevTool, neithe…

Hi Guys, It seems that I can't boot latest Armbian image from SD-card - system always boots into "inintramfs". See the screenshot. SD-card is 100% working (all sectors tested). The image - 25.11.1_noble_6.12.58_gnome_desktop (downloaded from front page of OrangePi5). Checksum is OK. Please note - I've already tested 3 different prorgams for images: USB-imager, Rufus, Win32diskimager. Nothing helped))). I also re-wrote MTD flash (not sata) by "armbian-install" and got nothing (!) I use my main Armbian-server installed on nvme, but I would prefer to run SD-images as well... Unfortunately, as I see, this became very difficult task lately(((. …

While doing various tests, also other bootloader than EDK2-UEFI v1.1 that I had in eMMC, I discovered that with 2026.01-rc2_armbian-2026.01-rc2-S365a-Pa203-He3cc-V062a-Bbf55-R448a kernel 6.18.0-rc7-edge-rockchip64 did not find/enable audio via HDMI. I moved the computer to other room where I rely on the speakers in the monitor, else I would not have discovered it as I also use networked pulseaudio. What works is 2025.01-armbian-2025.01-S6d41-Pdb4b-H2194-V062a-Bb703-R448a, so sort of last-known-good, got that via: sudo apt install linux-u-boot-nanopi-r6c-current=25.8.1 and wrote the binary with dd to eMMC Another issue is that the monitor …

Inspired by Bazzite OS, and remind me of experience on Armbian (not just armbian), basically on Orange PI 5/ OPI5+, it'll be solid OS if update failure/ anything went wrong can rollback to previous safe copy. Pain-point: I just want to use the system, not keep re-flashing OS. nixOS is good, but I don't want to re-learn everything ... and giving up my Ubuntu eco-system. Sorry I'm still testing out, and failing with existing Armbian-Config approach, I'm trying my own appraoch, Iknew the rules here, wait until I success I'll share it here. I tried installing the OS using SD card and EMMC, but both failed. Orange Pi OS (Arch) on the official website ran normally. However, I installed focal_desktop_xfce or jammy_desktop_gnome from Ubuntu Image, but they all failed. After inserting the image into the SD card, the symptom is a black screen and no booting. Does it only support SSD? Because it is entered through a translator, there may be unnatural sentences. If you reply about that, I will get back to you.

Hello, I've installed armbian with Debian Trixie on my Odroid-M1 to replace the Ubuntu installed via petitboot. Everything was running smoothly except the networking part which was very slow (with luck some 100kbit/s) and has shown very high packetloss, even while the switch and ethtool report absolutely no problems and replacing cables and switching ports didn't help. Switching to 100Mbit/s was working fine, no loss anymore, switching back to 1G caused massive packet loss. With some help from chatgpt and another M1 I own that was still running the hardkernel/petitboot installed kernel and dtb I could trace the issue down the RGMII timing…

I am running Ubuntu 24.04 Noble (Armbian Linux 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx) and no additional packages affecting VPU performance have been installed; everything is stock. Jellyfin is running in Docker, and transcoding works perfectly, except for some movies. I tried to play a 4K video in Chrome (native HEVC support), set the bitrate to 40mbps, and the video played normally at a transcoding speed of about 3x, but after a while, Orange Pi crashed. In Firefox inside neko (where there is no hardware acceleration and HEVC), the crash happened even faster, after ~2 seconds of playback. The crash happens as if the board loses power: journalctl is not saved, nothing is …

I was able to install the latest Armbian/Ubuntu-Resolute 26.8.3 image on my Orange Pi 5 Plus without a lot of fanfare. It took a bit of hunting around to find the correct process to get the image written to an SD card with the new Armbian Imager and then push that image to my emmc storage after it booted, but it was rather painless otherwise. It seems to work without any issues on my 2.5GB/10GB network and is acting as my home Jellyfin media server for now. It was doing that before running Ubuntu 24.04 with a an older 6.1 kernel from the vendor. Zero complaints with the old setup, but I wanted a newer and better supported kernel build given all the excitement around t…

The NPU on the ODROID-M1 can execute ordinary quantized TFLite models through the standard TFLite delegate mechanism, on a fully open stack: the `accel/rocket` kernel driver (with local fixes) plus the Mesa Teflon delegate. An application loads a regular .tflite file — no model-conversion step, no proprietary runtime. Image classification (mobilenet v1/v2, resnet18) and object detection (yolov8n) work today, and other convolutional networks take the same path. This complements the vendor-stack setup from [the DKMS topic](https://forum.armbian.com/topic/58036-odroid-m1-npu-fully-working-on-armbian-618x/), on the same board. What runs, measured against CPU-only TFLite …

Hello, I’ve seen in the latest release Armbian now supports installing to UFS but can’t really see much information about going about this? I boot into the SD card and I’ve tried both installing a new copy to the UFS, which seems to do something but booting only gets as far as initramfs, and copying existing install from SD card which just fails with the following: “No bootable install method is available for /dev/sda on this system (no EFI firmware, no GRUB, and no board u-boot support).” I have tried both Debian and Ubuntu minimal images on vendor and current kernels. Hi all, Since most of Armbian's Rock 5B images are currently bricked (although hopefully not for too much longer now that we've figured out what the root cause is) I've been using the Ubuntu 26.04 image, which works, but doesn't have hardware video decoding and encoding. Since I wanted to use it with RDP, I needed hardware video encoding at least to make things not super-slow, so I figured, why not port it myself with Claude and Codex. So that's what I did. The kernel and some of the auxillary stuff like ffmpeg, librga, mpp, a mpp -> vaapi bridge, and a gnome-remote-desktop build that encodes using ffmpeg, are all in a PPA. Details here: https://github.com/…

Hello community, I am working on a multi-channel audio project using a Rock Pi S (Rockchip RK3308) running a modern Mainline Kernel (6.18.y-current-rockchip64). My hardware setup relies on a fixed wiring where the Master Clock (MCLK) is connected to Pin 7 (GPIO2_A4) and BCLK is connected to Pin 12 (GPIO2_A5) using the i2s_8ch_0 controller. The Goal: We want to keep the working I2S/TDM master device tree foundation but replace the old, silent dummy codec (linux,spdif-dit) with the actual internal hardware codec (rockchip,rk3308-codec), so that ALSA maps the channels correctly instead of routing them into a digital void. Note: W…

Hello, I have installed the Armbian 26.2 minimal IOT image based on Debian 13 Trixie - with the 6.18.x kernel - and I noticed the USB2 port (the single, vertical port next to the Ethernet port) is not working. Is this a limitation of the mainstream kernel (6.18.x) - i.e. does this work only with the vendor kernel (6.1.x) ? NB: I upgraded to 6.19 using the 'edge' kernel, but I'm seeing the same behavior. Hello, I'm the owner of a Khadas Edge2, and I'm trying to run it with a USB-C DisplayPort (plus touch, plus Power) screen. That combination has historically failed for me, especially with newer kernel versions. There's an old thread in the Khadas user forum https://forum.khadas.com/t/usb-c-dp-stopped-working-after-apt-update/21788 describing the problem, but it went stale and unfixed. I'm not a kernel developer, so I can't fix something like that myself. However, I recently ran an investigation with an agent that, although lengthy, appears to have produced a good fix. It's all in here, the documentation and the result: https://codeberg.org/graphic…

I have edge kernel installed and working. I compiled the v4l2 ffmpeg but some of my av1 videos are not working. After some digging I noticed that v4l2-ctl --device=/dev/video4 --list-formats-ext ioctl: VIDIOC_ENUM_FMT Type: Video Capture Multiplanar [0]: 'VT12' (Y/UV 4:2:0 (4x4 Linear)) [1]: 'NV12' (Y/UV 4:2:0) Shouldn't this include the 10 bit formats as well? (NV15?) Does anyone know why the 10 bit format is missing in the kernel? Is this specific to the orange pi? I found this GitHub - dongioia/rock5bplus-rkvdec2: Rock 5B+ (RK3588) on mainline Linux 7.1: V4L2 stateless RKVDEC2/Hantro hardware video decode (…

Hello Armbian-Community! TL;DR I've successfully enabled the Rockchip RK3568 NPU (0.8 TOPS INT8) on the ODROID-M1 with 8GB RAM running Armbian 6.18.9-current-rockchip64. The only thing needed to make this work for everyone is a 1-line kernel patch in Armbian build that I've already submitted: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/9403 Once this patch is merged into Armbian, the DKMS modules will work out-of-the-box on all RK3568 boards. The Problem 1. Hardkernel and Rockchip provide NPU patches for quite old kernel versions: rockchip <= 6.6 hardkernel <= 5.10 2. IOMMU …

Hi, ive been trying to resolve the screen issue issue on my cb2 for a few days now, i cannot get it to work. I'm running Armbian_26.2.1_Bigtreetech-cb2_trixie_current_6.18.8_minimal, everything works. HDMI outputs to a 4K display just fine except for my small 5" display, which just stays black. The os has not been tempered with, i've flashed a fresh copy and used armbian-upgrade it, thats all. I've diagnosed the problem enough to see that its an EDID issue or the rk3566 just not likely my weird screen resolution. BTT os who also use armbian as a base somehow fixed this official issue. The display is being detected by the OS. My Armbian OS: root@big…

Hi all! I'd like to share a small personal project that I've been working on recently for the Orange Pi 5 (and potentially other RK3588 boards). Like many RK3588 users, I wanted to run Kodi on a modern mainline Linux kernel instead of relying on older vendor kernels. After a lot of testing, debugging and learning, this project started to take shape, and I've a stable almost "all works" setup Tested on Armbian (minimal Debian and Ubuntu 24.04) with mainline kernel Not working: -HDR -Maybe some network services Next up: -Wayland support -Audio visualisers https://github.com/Danibos/mainline-…

I have an Orange Pi 5 Plus 16GB board, revision "1.3.1". I've been using it for about a year with official Armbian, Vendor kernel 6.1. The only issues I noticed were a non-working Type-C port and FAN connector. I thought it was an OS or DTS (Device Tree) bug... But it turned out to be a hardware problem. It started when I got another Orange Pi 5 Plus 8GB board for repair (needed to resolder the Type-C power connector). Same revision "1.3.1". Hello everyone Just would like to start a discussion about the current state of video acceleration (decoding only, h.265/h.264/av1). The soc (rk3588) recently got mainline support for these features in 7.0: https://gitlab.collabora.com/hardware-enablement/rockchip-3588/notes-for-rockchip-3588/-/blob/main/mainline-status.md Has anyone tested this on a OPI5 already, especially using Kodi? Does this work ootb there now? Regards, XXXBold

Hi @Kwiboo and Armbian rk35xx maintainers, I'm hitting a boot-time eMMC reliability issue on NanoPi R76S with the current Armbian U-Boot 2026.04 build, and the community-known workaround from OpenWrt PR #23520 breaks kernel boot completely in our Armbian environment. The entire workflow was developed through extensive real-world testing. The following configuration has been successfully verified: ✅ Android boots from the NVMe SSD. ✅ Armbian boots from the same NVMe SSD via UEFI. ✅ Ubuntu boots from the same NVMe SSD via UEFI. ✅ All three operating systems coexist on a single NVMe SSD. ✅ Armbian and Ubuntu share the same EFI partition. ✅ Android, Armbian, and Ubuntu can share a common data partition. 1. Hi ! I have a FriendlyElec NanoPi M5 and I want to play movies with it. But I want to squeeze everything out of this SBC ! So, I need hardware acceleration. I tested first with a OS image downloaded from FriendlyElec and mpv and (almost) everything works well. The mpv working configuration is: hwdec=rkmpp, vo=gpu, gpu-api=opengl. But I don't like that OS for other reasons, so I switched to Armbian. I installed the image "Armbian 26.5.1 KDE Wayland (Ubuntu 26.04 - vendor 6.1.115)", then I installed mpv, but when I try to play movies, it says: marus@nanopi-m5:/mnt/NAS/WDRed1/Samples/FullHD$ mpv --hwdec=rkmpp --vo=gpu --gpu-api=opengl H265.8bit.FullHD.192…

Hi all, After a recent update bumped the current kernel to the 6.18 series, the rear 3.5mm jack on my NanoPC-T6 LTS stopped playing any sound. I'm connecting it to an external amplifier that worked fine before the update. What I see on 6.18 (6.18.35-current-rockchip64): The audio card (rt5616) still shows up in aplay -l and playback commands run without errors, but no sound comes out. Volume levels and mute aren't the issue — I checked those. What fixed it: downgrading via armbian-config to linux-image-current-rockchip64=25.11.2 (kernel 6.12.58). With 6.12 the audio works perfectly again. So 6.12 works and 6.18 doesn…

I've ran into two issues. The first my board won't boot off the Armbian Debian vendor image. Second it boots off the mainline Debian image, but when I try installing the boot onto the MTD via option 7 in Armbian-install it completes, but I get a solid blue LED and a UART output that hangs on BL31: Preparing for EL3 exit to normal world -> Entry point address = 0x200000 -> SPSR = 0x3c9 then it hangs. Before this I tried manually erasing the SPI and loader and reinstalling them with rkdeveloptool, but this didn't help. I would provide the UART logs, but the server is failing at uploading images. I'm looking to boot off the nvme, but I'm not sure how to resolve this.

Hi, I would like to report an issue I encountered while testing the new NanoPi M5 UFS boot support in Armbian 26.5.1. Board: NanoPi M5 Boot media for installation: SD card Target storage: onboard UFS BOOT switch after installation: UFS/SD Tested images: * `Armbian_26.5.1_Nanopi-m5_trixie_vendor_6.1.115_minimal.img.xz` * `Armbian_26.5.1_Nanopi-m5_trixie_current_6.18.33_minimal.img.xz` My current NVMe setup uses a custom layout: * `ext4` `/boot` * `btrfs` `/` I had to use this layout because, in my previous NVMe tests, installing the system directly to NVMe with btrfs using `armbian-install` did not boot when `/boot` was also located on btrfs. **Board:** NanoPi M5 (RK3576) **Kernel:** 6.18.33-current-rockchip64 (#1 SMP PREEMPT Sat May 23 11:07:21 UTC 2026) **Armbian build:** v26.8.0-trunk.53 ## Problem Gigabit RX is completely non-functional on `end0` (GMAC0, `ethernet@2a220000`). Forcing 100Mb/s via `ethtool -s end0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off` works around the issue — RX starts working immediately. ## Root cause The DTB sets `phy-mode = "rgmii-id"` together with `rx_delay = <0x3f>`. And will the computer still work if you choose to not install the pieces of non free software in question? Thank you.

Due to the shortage of memory chips these days, Radxa is using different emmc models in their boards. For example, I recently ordered a big batch of Rock S0 boards, but they had to be delivered with Sandisk iNAND 32GB emmc drives instead of the typical 8GB option. The problem is that Armbian did not reliably boot on these new boards. It randomly gets stuck during initialization with the onboard LED endlessly blinking. Some boards works, some did not, some only works sometimes. Long story short, in case other people also have this problem: I found the solution. I believe it is caused by Armbian's Rock S0 device tree enabling the HS200 high speed mode for t…

Note: This is for Odroid m1s, not Odroid m1 - there just isn't a forum for the m1s (yet?) When I tried to start the board with the community image for the Odroid m1s on a SD card, it wouldn't boot. I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the acceleration performance (smooth 4K video playback in mpv / chromium) in Armbian (any of the MESA/VPU marked releases) that I am getting from the FriendlyElec distributions. In my naive mind, I thought the MESA/VPU version would get me there, but mpv stutters on 4K videos. I suspect this is because Armbian avoids the proprietary drives. A long time ago, Armbian Ubuntu versions were able to be 'amended' with the Amazingfate/liujianfeng1994 repository, but I have not been able to make that work in a while. After upgrading armbian to 26.2.1 with kernel 6.18.10 performances on WAN interface dropped to 20Mbps for a single TCP connection. The interface is end0, renamed from eth1, driver from ethtool -i is "st_gmac". I used armbian-config to rollback to kernel 6.12.58 and performances are ok now. Will it be fixed in the future kernels ?

Hi I managed to fix an issue with the usb-c port of the orange pi 5 plus. It seems the device is not activated unless you put it in host mode yourself: as user root: echo host >/sys/kernel/debug/usb/fc000000.usb/mode I have tried a usb-c network card and usb stick. Both work after this command! I noticed this when I installed the 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx kernel. This one does not need this setting, it switches automatically from device mode to host and vice versa. I had alot of problems with analog sound on older kernels, e.g. youtube just hangs unless you mute the sound. But sound in noble 6.19.0-edge-rockchip64 wo…

Looks like the current-rockchip64 kernel that one receives with apt on PINE64 rockpro64 is 3.18.10 (6.18.10-current-rockchip64), vulnerable to copy-fail. This seems weird because if you go to https://armbian.com/boards/rockpro64 that page says that the "current" kernel for these systems is 6.18.26 and that is what you get when you download the image file. Is there an issue with updating the apt repos?

I am trying to get the ARM performance assessment setup working (I'm trying to get Mali profiling for OpenCL code) on the Rock 5B+, and I've hit a blocker. The main component to this is some kernel configuration (CONFIG_ARM_SPE_PMU) and a loadable module. Oddly, those work fine in a custom kernel build. What I am hitting appears to be some missing interrupt setup that renders all those components inert. (It has to be a custom build to get CONFIG_ARM_SPE_PMU set. The issue is that even with the kernel configured and the module loaded, the SPE component remains inactive. ARM has its own system report tool which analyzes a setup, and that tool is re…

Board : radxa rock 5c lite with NVMe HAT and SPI Flash Module. OS : Armbian 25.11.2 stable 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx (Debian trixie) Overlays : rock-5a-spi-nor-flash SPI Flash is on /dev/mtdblock0 Boot from SD : OK Boot from SD system on NVMe : OK ---- I want to boot from Flash, so I tried `Install/Update the bootloader on MTD Flash` menu on `armbian-config'. Then I got this message. No SPI image found. I also updated SPI with `rsetup` from Radxa OS, but it does not work(boot from NVMe failed) either. What do I have to do?

I updated to Armbian 26.2.1 on OPi5, and it can't boot from MTD (rootfs at NVMe), and I have to use SD card to boot to NVMe as workaround. After looking into this issue, I found rkspi_loader.img is no longer available for current (6.18.8 kernel) u-boot pkg and armbian-config flashes u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin ( or similar sata version) to /dev/mtdblock0 and I think this is wrong image for MTD bootloader. If I use older vendor image, which u-boot pkg has rkspi_loader.img, system can boot to NVMe rootfs and I notice that /dev/mtdblock0 has several gpt partitions including u-boot one, and flashing u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin erases partitions in SPI flash. I…

Hello, good afternoon. I'm using a translator, so I apologize if it's not clear. I have an Orange Pi 5 Plus SBC which I have Android installed on the m2 drive. I install Armbian on a microSD card. I don't remember what problem I was having, but I had to format the SPI Flash. After that, the Armbian version worked fine. Also, after formatting the SPI Flash, my microphone stopped working on Android (it works on Armbian). Could this be due to formatting the SPI Flash? Thank you.

Hi everyone, I'm facing an issue with Armbian installation on Rock 5B Plus. Greetings, I have an Orange Pi 5 with the edk2 1.1 UEFI bios on the SPI, and an NVMe installed. The BIOS has been set to "Mainline" in the device tree option I tried visiting here https://armbian.com/boards/uefi-arm64 and burning the minimal current6.18.8 CLI image to my USB stick. The Orange Pi 5 displays the graphical grub menu with no problems, complete with penguin in the background etc, but once I choose the boot Armbian option, it displays a few lines of terminal output and then the monitor goes black as if the GPU is initializing and a desktop or graphic would be about to show - when instead, the monitor just reports no signal instead. The system isn't…

Built image with such flags: Etched img to sdcard and SBC has no response on power up. U-boot log: OS boots normally if I use ext4, but would like to stick to f2fs. Btrfs or f2fs used to work if I used 7 months old armbian-build git checkpoint but not any more. Anyone else had similar problems?
