LivingLinux got a reaction from Scrumpper in NATIVE ARM64 Steam Client Installer built on RK3588 board (Using the ARM64 Steam Frame's Client)I tested a Snap that installs Fex and x86 Steam. As long as a you have a capable GPU and thunking working, 8 A72 cores is fine.
Thanks for the quick updates.

LivingLinux reacted to Scrumpper in NATIVE ARM64 Steam Client Installer built on RK3588 board (Using the ARM64 Steam Frame's Client)Valve published native ARM64 Steam in roughly April
2026.
The Steam Frame launched September 14th.
I built a client that installs the Steam Frame ARM64 Steam client on my RK3588 board.
It launches Big Picture mode and firstboot makes you get past the VR Joystick screen. You can run it as desktop mode thereafter. The CLIENT and GAME run natively, naturally on ARM*. No box64 etc workarounds. Why not try to share if I can? *panvk and vulkan are required.
This Contains:
Vulkan feature layer for Direct3D translation layer Remote Play decode settings for GPU with no Vulkan Video, Private Mesa GLX copy for multi threaded OpenGL, Controller access rules for 243 pads Memory map limit for Proton
Only tested on my H96 Max V58, RK3588 with Mali-G610 GPU. Armbian with an open grapics stack:
Tested device answers: `panthor` loaded, renderer `Mali-G610 MC4 (Panfrost)`, Vulkandriver `panvk`, `ubuntu`, `4096`.
**Rock 5B, Orange Pi 5 and other RK3588 boards on Armbian.** Same Mali-G610 as tested device.
Pick Ubuntu based image.
`current` and `edge` kernel branches are mainline and carry Panthor<--Should be fine.
`vendor` branch:
check `lsmod`: If `vulkaninfo` lists no `panvk` device, stock Mesa predates PanVK in use here :-( , `kisak-mesa` PPA is where the test device sources from.
I may be under-educated but this might be able to run on a snapdragon chip or other ARM chip in a laptop or a mac. I have no idea. I do not own those things.
I reached out to the Armbian Forums first since that is how this came about in the first place
I NEED FEEDBACK!!

LivingLinux reacted to Mykola Zghurskyi in Orange Pi RV2Hello. Finally, I have built an image on my Orange Pi 5B for the Orange Pi RV2 and launched it from a TF card. Currently, I have two RV2 boards with 8 GB of RAM and plan to maximize these devices by contributing to Armbian specifically for this device. Well, so far I have only successfully launched the system, and it will take a few days to figure out its capabilities and errors. So far I can only work with TF cards, but after a while I will add m.2 drives. It is not very clear what about working with USB. I am interested not only in the successful work of the server build but also in the effective work of the graphical desktop environment. In a few days I will write about the test results.

LivingLinux got a reaction from mrdeathjr in Gaming experience Radxa Dragon Q6A Snapdragon QCS6490I see a very active gaming thread for the Orange Pi 5, but the Radxa Dragon Q6A is the better credit card sized ARM SBC for gaming.
I'm a bit of a lazy person, so I don't feel like testing many settings, so I settled on the Steam ARM Linux client and for some games the Luxtorpeda tool for Steam.
Luxtorpeda isn't developed for ARM, but it will run with Fex-Emu, and I assume Box64.
https://codeberg.org/luxtorpeda/luxtorpeda
Here you can see Metro 2033 Redux on the Rada Dragon Q6A. I played it with Luxtorpeda. You can also play it with Proton ARM64, but I didn't see much difference with the performance.
Performance is around 20-25 fps at 1080p most of the time, but I have tested only the beginning of the game.
If you have audio issues, you can try to run it like this: PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 mangohud %command%
I added Mangohud, so you can see the fps.
I'm interested to see the gaming experience from other people.

LivingLinux reacted to Julio Cesar Goldner Vendramini in Armbian on a generic RK3518 TV box (AIC8800D80 Wi-Fi) — full bring-up guideHi everyone! 👋
I managed to get Armbian running on a generic RK3518 TV box — mainline U-Boot, onboard Ethernet, and AIC8800D80 SDIO Wi-Fi all working. I couldn't find a single RK3518 thread here when I started, so I wrote everything up to help the community.
Full step-by-step guide, device tree, and the loader binaries I built are in my GitHub repo:

Happy to answer questions.
Hope it helps someone! 🙂

Had to debootstrap trixie because depmod version mismatch. Wifi 2.4 + 5 GHz + BT headphones, keyboards all work. USB is still stuck in plain charge, no micro SD. According to Gemini 3.1 Pro which I have been using, Imagination Technologies (PowerVR) BXM-4-64 MC1 would need 6.12.x kernel or newer which I have not been able to boot yet. This actually feels a bit faster than the Teclast Android even though without accel youtubes playback is quite slow. Battery life probably 5+ hours.
aliexpress.com/item/1005009649297050.html keyboard + touchpad I have is a bit shady miss-clicks a bit once in a while. Might have to AI haxor some software filter to get it behave a bit better but that should not be that big of a deal. I have kind of already made up my mind, this ain't going to boot Android anymore, have to see if I grab another one at some point.

Okay slight update, I have successfully booted https://forum.armbian.com/topic/56130-radxa-cubie-a7aa7z-allwinner-a733 linux 6.6.98-vendor-sun60iw2 kernel and debootstrapped Bookworm (Debian 12) on it using userdata as root fs.
Basically I got in using:
aliexpress.com/item/1005009243708714.html Micro SD Sniffer
aliexpress.com/item/1005010529282186.html in 1.8v mode(important!)
And fiddling with the u-boot endlessly after i first sabotaged the auto-boot process.
Display is alive, usb subsystem does not work, does not probe. Wifi would be next so I can ditch the tf uart. All your bases belong to us, resistance is futile!

LivingLinux reacted to Ross Cawston in RK3588 Kernel Patches for H.265 Hardware Encoding and HDMIRX EDID fixMy recent RK3588 kernel adventure:
- dual-core H.265 (HEVC) encoding working live at full 4K@60 on armbian-build edge kernel (6.19-rc8) for Rock 5B[+] and Orange Pi 5 Ultra.
- fix for setting HDMIRX EDID (this didn't work in mainline on any of my tested hardware)
This is out-of-tree (practical focus over upstream goals), but it's stable and producing clean bitstreams.
Repo: https://github.com/rcawston/rockchip-rk3588-mainline-patches
Feedback welcome.

LivingLinux reacted to Igor in Hardware video acceleration with recent armbian/mainline kernel (Kodi)On vendor kernel you need to enable overlay https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/main/extensions/mesa-vpu.sh#L18-L28
mainline based gnome desktop + apt install kodi (just tested 4k/H264 video works without any problems)

LivingLinux reacted to sven-ola in Orange Pi RV2Success: tested RV2 with GPU on Armbian-noble-nightly. It's a bit hacky but should work. I created a mirror of the relevant packages from Spacmit/Bianbu. Only packages with source, specific to k1x / video / gpu plus chromium. Mirror project is here, in case you want to mirror yourself or miss a package: https://codeberg.org/sven-ola/spacemit-mirror
After getting up Armbian-noble-xfce4-nightly on your Spacemit/K1 board (that includes Ky X1)
Add mirror repo to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sven-ola.sources (Note: this is experimental) Types: deb deb-src URIs: https://privat-in.de/armbian Suites: noble Components: main Signed-By: /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/sven-ola.gpg
Get my repo key with wget -O /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/sven-ola.gpg https://privat-in.de/armbian/key.gpg Give the mirror some weight, add an /etc/apt/preferences.d/sven-ola file Package: * Pin: release o=Sven-Ola Pin-Priority: 1000
Install GPU support apt-get update apt-get install img-gpu-powervr apt-get dist-upgrade Note: this will downgrade mesa-25.x to mesa-24.x from Bianbu/Spacemit
Install a Wayland-enabled GUI (tested: gnome) apt-get install gnome-core systemctl disable lightdm If asked, select gdm from gnome instead of lightdm from xfce4.
After rebooting, click on your user, then stop and select Gnome with the lower right gearwheel icon.
I also installed glmark2-es2-wayland to check if that runs. It shows 417@800x600 which is faster than software mesa...
