I am having some difficulty producing audio on an orangepi zero using the images listed here:

No matter what I do, I cannot get any audio devices to show up in /proc/asound/cards

 

There are a number of posts on here that suggest that audio doesn't work on version 4.x kernels. Is this still the case? And if so, where can I download an armbian image that does support audio?

AFAIK audio is disabled on those boards by default. You need to enable it. With modern kernel, you can use armbian-config -> system -> hardware. Enable, save and reboot.
