First give away batch is starting 11.6.2016 It's not often that you can work on a software project that actually brings joy and helps people. Armbian is one of those project. It is a system that helps one build a kernel or boot images for several ARM development boards. It's in common interest that we improve level of support and to relieve most active people. Our crew needs an upgrade: we need more coders, kernel hackers, UX designers to find and solve problems. 6. Hallo, the Armbian Debian jessie dhclient does not handle a served hostname reliable. Deleting /etc/hostname (or replacing it with an empty file) and setting the hostname option at the DHCP Server doesn't always work. In some cases the Armbian client still has its default name 'bananapim2'. http://blog.schlomo.schapiro.org/2013/11/setting-hostname-from-dhcp-in-debian.html describes the problem, a cause and a solution. I can confirm the problem with the leases file. Following step 2 works for me. It would be really fine if the unset_old_hostname file could be added to Armbian by default. Kind regards, Steve

I prepared new kernel based on recent H3 Allwinner code. Code was found here: https://github.com/friendlyarm/h3_lichee than it was cleaned and moved to my repository: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/linux -b sun8i On the top there are additional 100+ patches. I am still working on patches so they are not online yet, but you can try first build and compare to old kernel. Download deb package (dpkg -i linux-image-sun8i_5.07_armhf.deb) Patches regarding thermal, video mode changing and camera are missing. They need further inspection and adjustments.

Hi TKaiser / Igor, FYI i manually prepared a patch for devices that use rtl2832u that i think may interest you to add this patch to the build process. You can patch against legacy kernel 3.4.111 and give users a chance to get their device recognized. Sorry, i can't couple with the automated armbian process yet, i usually do the things manually. I hope this can be useful (and hopefully works for someone). clone here: https://github.com/avafinger/rtl2832 @lex

Hi everyone, I need to ask about GPIO pins. I have Cubieboard2 with Armbian (Jessie, Legacy) and I cannot export any GPIO pin as described here http://linux-sunxi.org/GPIO#Accessing_the_GPIO_pins_through_sysfs_with_mainline_kernel, chapter " Accessing the GPIO pins through sysfs with mainline kernel". I was able to play with GPIO this way on Cubian nicely but since Cubian is more or less dead without much support I moved to Armbian. I am able to export only pins with adress 1 or 2 as these are in the script.bin. I quite suspect that I need to change script.fex from GIT, convert to script.bin and replace original one on my Cubieboard. Am I correct? And next thing is that …

New here, first of all congrats for the good work. I am using Armbian (Debian vanilla) on a Bpi R1 with iperf throughput of 860 MBit. Not bad.... My question: do you plan to upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 as Freedombox (deb available on Launchpad for 16.04) needs several packages from 16.04. I tried a partial upgrade with Debian to testing, however the R1 did not boot after the upgrade.

Sadly, I can't find "Orange Pi PC" in the list of supported boards in the build script. The only one listed with H3 chip is the orange pi plus, and that image does not run on an orange pi pc. So my question is.... What would it take to get the opiPC support? I would love to see a guide on how to create a virtual machine for Armbian which would be great for testing in VMWare Workstation, Player or Virtualbox. It would be similar to the diet pi vm which autoboots into the qemu (I think) for the Raspberry Pi If someone has a rough guide on how to do it I can make something noob friendly. My guess is you need to install qemu, add some repositories and then get it to autoboot using rc.local or something like that. Any resources on how to get started would be much appreciated.

This isn't specific to armbian, I guess. I am not sure if the mainline linux kernel supports USB peripheral/OTG on Banana Pi M2. Armbian doesn't list anything in /sys/class/udc , so I assume it isn't. In the v3.3 kernel released by Sinovoip, there is a dedicated option in the menuconfig for sunxi_usb. I am not sure where to look in the mainline kernel. Anybody has a better idea about this? Thank you.

  92. Hi Igor, Hi Buddies, with the new changes of *.sh files because of "2>&1" you cannot figure out the compilation errors -- or if any staling questions like patching file tools/include/tools/be_byteshift.h patching file tools/include/tools/le_byteshift.h dpkg-deb: building package `linux-firmware-image-next-sunxi' in `../linux-firmware-image-next-sunxi_4.6_armhf.deb'. gzip: ./debian/dtbtmp/usr/share/doc/linux-dtb-next-sunxi/changelog.Debian.gz already exists; do you wish to overwrite (y or n)? so I have tried and would suggest the following changes in common.sh (or anything better for bash conditional piping) #make $CTHREADS ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE="$CCACHE a…

  93. Hi guys, I am running bananapi and cubietruck boards and these board are axp209 power management unit equipped (tech details about this unit: http://linux-sunxi.org/AXP209).One advantage of this unit is showing informations about actual voltage and current of power source because as you know we are surrounded with many bad cheap power sources and microusb cables and monitoring of these informations can help explain corrupted data on microsd cards or random reboots. It show informations about battery status and usb voltage and current as well if battery is connected. I am using axp209 enabled RPi-Monitor from link https://github.com/XavierBerger/RPi-Monitorand I am sur…

FYI I've found a problem with the nand-sata-install script after building a 4.6 version for my pcduino, nand-part does not exist in /usr/sbin. Did a full, default compile. Seems the command its in the PATH but if i try to run nand-part i get "/usr/sbin/nand-part now found" lf I go manually in there and do a "ls " its there, but even if im in the folder and do ./nand-part same error appears. The error that I'm getting from nand-sata-install is not enough space on nand2, because nand-part is not able to run and aprtition the disk its trying to copy all root to 16MB(old partitioning from stock linksprite image). To make it work for myself i manually compiled nand…

Igor, to add some applications ( for example, https://github.com/Freescale/gstreamer-imx), it would be nice to have the possibility, to enter at some point into the chroot, and compiling software, and installing it. Or, add a "just mount exisiting image" function to your scripts. For example, base image is finished, and then I can use a function, that unpack, mount, the existing image, and allow "the costumer" to enter into chroot. What do you think? Peter

Igor, I noticed that your build script automatically parses a URL to determine what the current stable release is for "Next". Since 4.3 is now officially released and has a number of features worth checking out, it would be nice if the build script offered an option to pick from stable vs. mainline. For now I am just manually setting the KernelTag to "4.3", but it would be nice not to have to modify any of the scripts manually and have this be an option you can pick from. Just a suggestion... Thanks.

FYI - seeing the following error on completion of a build... I suspect it's transient since it just seems to be verifying the image... "Re-reading the partition table failed.: Invalid argument" Image build seems to otherwise complete successfully. Haven't tested the image yet. This was building a BPi image for Jessie using the "next" (latest) kernel.

Looks like A10/A20 audio codec support got merged to linux-next tree. Igor, can you please add these patches? I'll try to find all related bits. There are too many commits to link them one by one. Here is merge commit, it's easier to remove not needed bcm2835 and sun6i stuff from it. https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit?id=2030deefd5bfb68317732d8f64c69c7cb5169e9d
