This week in Armbian development saw significant enhancements across multiple areas, including expanded board support and improved hardware compatibility. Notable additions include new images and configurations for Qidi X-6, X-7, and Ariaboard Photonicat2 mainboards, as well as refined kernel patch maintenance and updates for various platforms. The build system received important fixes, such as resolving compilation errors and device tree issues, alongside improvements in Docker utilities and offline mode detection. Several refactoring efforts streamlined backend processes and enhanced user interface elements. The team also introduced automatic fallback mechanisms for Het…

This week's work centers on board portfolio expansion, kernel and U-Boot version bumps, and CI and infrastructure hardening across the build and documentation pipelines. Board support saw notable growth with the introduction of the SpacemiT K3 Pico-ITX and Luckfox Nova (RK3308B), alongside a new generic uefi-arm64-dt family and board intended to standardize UEFI device-tree targets. Qualcomm enablement advanced through Radxa Dragon Q6A and Q8B work, including UFS provisioning for Kodiak, EDL-based UFS flashing in the imager, and audioreach topology firmware for sc8280xp. Catalog assets were extended for the MaaXBoard 8ULP, Mellow Fly C5, Xiaomi Sheng, and the new Radxa an…

This cycle centers on Linux 7.2/7.3 kernel enablement across out-of-tree drivers, new board support and platform fixes across Rockchip, SpacemiT, and Amlogic, and a broad documentation and CI cleanup. Kernel progression dominated the driver ecosystem, with 7.3 patch sets prepared for rockchip64, meson64, and the UEFI targets, and edge bumps to 7.2.3 landing for qcs6490, qrb2210, and sc8280xp. A wave of Wi‑Fi drivers was re-enabled and bumped for 7.3 compatibility, including rtl8189es/fs, rtl8192eu, rtl8723ds, rtl8852bs, uwe5622, and bcmdhd-dkms, most addressing the strncpy removal and the cfg80211 remain_on_channel cookie signature change. The rk35xx vendor kernel also ad…

Nowadays, in Google Cloud Engine (GCE), it is possible to attach a local SSD with the NVMe interface to your virtual machine. Unfortunately, you only get a good number of iops (input/output operations per second) if you instantiate a machine with nvme-backports-debian-7-wheezy image; other available distributions on GCE will have a lower number of iops. Description It seems like, with no other network service to bring them up (networking, NetworkManager), systemd-networkd will not set "up" the wan and lan0/lan1 interfaces. To fix this, the default systemd.network files get the line "BindCarrier=eth0" to bring those three interfaces up with the mii port. This should make no change for most users. View the full article

Description Fix the peripheral aliases to ensure consistent allocation when enabled, so that kernel assignment matches the numbering convention of the SOC. This targets the Allwinner A10 and A20 and ensures, that for example if enabling UART2 exposes it correctly in userspace as ttyS2 rather than dynamically assigning it to the first avaliable ttySx slot. Secondly spidev overlays creates an instance of spidevX.Y based on the bus specified with armbianEnv.txt however it does not correctly configure the corresponding pins into spi mode. To resolve this the individual spi bus overlays have been include in the makefile. The desired bus must be enabled alongside spidev or sepe…
