  1. Changes to be committed: modified: config/boards/aml-s9xx-box.tvb deleted: packages/bsp/aml-s9xx-box/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf new file: packages/bsp/aml-s9xx-box/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf.template Description Upgrades of the aml-s9xx-box bsp package were failing (apparently I've never tested this, nor has anyone reported it) The problem is that the package installs files into /boot which is a fat filesystem. dpkg doesn't support the fat filesystem for upgrades as it tries to create a backup link for each file it is replacing which fails. Solution is to remove the files being replaced in a preinst step This also necessitated using the standard armbian extlinu…

  3. Description Bumped kernel versions Current: 6.1.38 -> 6.1.39 Edge: 6.4.2 -> 6.4.4 Modified thermal-sun8i-Be-loud-when-probe-fails.patch to fix patch application failure Disabled drm-sun4i-Fix-wrong-location-of-clk_prepare_enable.patch to fix patch failure and as its not needed after the upstream change Rest of the disabled patches for 6.4.4 are upstreamed U-boot: 2023.07 -> 2023.07.02. 9. We often write about business card or credit card-sized boards, but it’s only true for 2D dimensions, as most boards are over a centimeter thick, with possibly the thinnest we’ve covered being the Khadas Edge2 SBC that’s just 7mm thick. So Kn/vD took it upon himself to build a DIY computer that was really about the size of a credit card, and came up with the ELLO LC1 based on a Microchip PIC18 8-bit microcontroller, featuring an integrated display and keyboard, and powered by a coin-cell battery. It’s just 2mm thin. ELLO LC1 specifications: MCU – Microchip PIC18 (PIC18F47Q83-I/PT) 8-bit microcontroller with 13KB RAM and 128KB flash, out of which 64KB are reserved as user …

  12. Description This PR follows the discussion of the previous PR about introducing LibreELEC patches into rockchip64 family patch tree. There is no Jira reference number yet, since this is yet a proposal. If there is general consensus, a ticket will be opened and linked here. As like as @AdamLantos did, I first let LibreELEC patches apply and then armbian ones, so if an armbian patch clashes, I remove it and keep the libreelec variant. This is so because LibreELEC patches usually are already queued for being upstreamed into mainline kernel and then downloaded from https://patchwork.kernel.org This time, following the requests coming from the previous PR, LibreELEC patches…

Damien George has recently announced the release of MicroPython 1.20 with support for the Raspberry Pi Pico W board., a new lightweight package manager called mip, a smaller footprint thanks to the use of compressed type structs, and many other changes. mip package manager The new mip package manager uses a custom protocol optimized for embedded systems to query and install packages, and intends to replace upip for installing packages from micropython-lib or any URL. Mip can be run directly on a device, as long as it has network connectivity, or via mpremote from a host computer. Damien explains all pure-Python drivers have been moved from the micropython repository to th…

  26. Description Please note that this PR does not merge to main, but to another branch for collaboration. This is a continuation of v2: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6800 @pyavitz has already done a nice job in v1 and v2 of this PR. Based on this work, I have put a lot of effort in trying to bring this new board family more in line with existing families as well as trying to improve maintainability for the long term. Another concern with v2 was the sheer size of the PR (~55MB which amounts to almost 10% of the repo or ~2.4 million LOC which amounts to over 50% of the current repo). v3 brings down this size considerably, to a more sane number: v2 v3 Shrinkage …

MicroBlocks is a visual programming IDE for 32-bit microcontrollers currently supporting the BBC Micro:bit V1/V2, Calliope mini (aka the German Micro:bit), Adafruit Circuit Playground Express and Bluefruit, Raspberry Pi Pico and Pico W, and various other boards including ESP32 and ESP8266-based boards. I discovered MicroBlocks in the list of talks for FOSDEM 2023, and although it did not make it to my virtual schedule, I thought it was interesting to look into and write about it. In their upcoming FOSDEM talk, Bernat Romagosa and Kathy Giori refer to MicroBlocks as small, fast, and human-friendly with development guided by four guiding principles: liveness, parallelism, p…

We just wrote about the Infineon XENSIV PAS CO2 Shield2Go board to measure carbon dioxide (CO2) levels last week, but I’ve just come across two more hardware with a CO2 sensor designed for makers, but based on Sensirion SCD40 sensor instead, and mostly designed to monitor indoor CO2 levels since high concentrations may impact your health negatively. The first one is the M5Stack UNIT CO2 that’s designed to be connected to one of the company’s Core modules through an I2C interface, and TeHyBug portable mini sensor device equipped with ESP8285 WiFi microcontroller, as well as optional AHT10 temperature & humidity sensor and BMP280 pressure sensor, besides the SCD40 senso…

  60. With Smart Home products connecting to the cloud, if a company decides to end support for a product or is required to close due to final troubles, there are few courses of action. The easiest one is to give up, and switch to another brand, or promise yourself you’ll never use one of those “Internet of Shit” products. The second one is quite more time-consuming and you’d have to work with the community to reverse-engineering the product and give it a second life, but obviously, this does not solve the supply issue since the product will not be manufactured anymore. Today, I learn about a third one: simply gather a small group of users, and buy the company! That’s basically…

  69. The new "Hello World" module should help people understand the minimum requirements. Note that these requirements will still change over time, given that the architecture is still in alpha stage. That said, having an overview module should help attracting developers more quickly than a lengthy documentation. On the docker side, the dependencies have been slightly improved, but that's actually a part of the architecture I'll have to revise, since one "DEPS" file is not enough for all the various ubuntu and debian versions. I still wonder if I'm going to mimic the 'config/...' folder architecture used for the installer, or if I'll try to shorten it with things like DEPS…

As we approach our next point release, the focus shifts entirely towards bug fixing and stabilization. Feature development is on hold this month to ensure that core functionalities like network connectivity, video output, and booting processes are solid. We aim to resolve as many issues as possible during this period. However, we encourage users to report any recognized problems here so that they can be addressed in future updates. Target for next release We are targeting kernel v6.6 for our current builds and v6.10 for edge builds, while vendor kernels will remain at their latest versions—6.1.y for Rockchip 3588 and 5.15.y for Meson64 legacy. 90. I don’t think I’ve ever written about open-source hardware headphones. But that’s precisely what Ploopy offers with an amplifier based on a Raspberry Pi RP2040, a Texas Instruments PCM3060 24-bit DAC, and an amplifier circuit, as well as 3D printed parts and open-source firmware written in C. As we’ll see further below the project is reasonably well documented, and you can either build it from scratch, purchase a fully-assembled kit, or something in the middle. I suppose you could even do some knitting since woven covers are part of the build just in case making your own PCBs and 3D printing parts are not your things. The electronics are comprised of two boards: The Gould…

  91. rtw88_8821cu takes priority over the github driver, so this shouldn't effect other units or usb dongles people use. My reasoning is; The rtw88 driver for reasons yet unknown seems to trigger usb fails more often than the github driver. If a fail occurs it will introduce dmesg spam and upon reboot leave the onboard wireless module undetectable.
