  44. Alder Lake processors were first formally announced at the end of 2021 with the most powerful H-Series, followed by a range of Alder Lake Edge IoT processors, and in February, Intel officially launched Alder Lake P-Series and U-Series mobile hybrid processors which I had expected to find in several mini PCs by now. But apart from ASRock iBOX 1200 Series announcement, and leaks of the NUC 12 Studio Pro, I had not really seen any. But today, I found what looks like a mini PC with the Polywell Nano-U12P, but it’s instead marketed as an 8K digital signage player with a choice of Alder Lake P-series and U-series processors. Nano-U12P specifications: SoC (one of the other) Inte…

STMicro introduced the VL53L8 multi-zone direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) sensor last month, but here’s another ToF sensor with VL53L5CP specifically designed for the PC market with the enablement of features such as user detection, gesture recognition, and intruder alert. STMicro says the ranging sensor continuously scans its field of view to map the scene and gather intelligence without using a camera or recording images. With 64 (8×8) zones within a wide 61-degree field, the VL53L5CP can detect and track multiple targets, calculating at their X/Y/Z coordinates and motion at high speed. 50. James Brown (aka Ancient) has built a tiny computer inside a LEGO brick with a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller and a 0.42-inch monochrome OLED display. And yes, it runs Doom. So finally, the LEGO minifigures have access to a computer suitable for their size :). James did not post a lot of information to reproduce the build by yourself, but he still released the “uGrey” code, written in Micropython, to display greyscale on a monochrome OLED. We can learn from the design in a mesmerizing video (embedded at the end of this post) showing how he made a Raspberry Pi RP2040 computer fit into a LEGO brick. The tiny design is comprised of five main boards/modules: Raspberry Pi…

  57. Description ddbr was failing on a recent jammy build. The issue is that lsblk output has changed sometime since this script was written. The logic to parse out the $runfrom drive was returning duplicate info, so instead of 'mmcblk0' the value was 'mmcblk0 mmcblk0' Having this duplicate value was causing an error further down the script. Fix is to add ' | sort | uniq' this was already being done on the other lsblk outputs, just not this one. I've run into this before, and I guess at that time, I forgot to submit a PR for the fix, or it was for a different script that had the same issue. 87. Description Introduce a driver that leverages the virtual poweroff feature of Trust OS for rk322x that allow Power On with IR remote controller KEY_POWER. It brings the board into suspended state (ie: "virtual poweroff") on shutdown and resumes power when the user pushes KEY_POWER of the remote controller. This is for current 6.1 and edge 6.5 kernels on rk322x family, but it could be possible to extend to other rockchip socs with minor changes. The driver may need some polishing here and there, but it already very usable. To be enabled, it requires the ir-wakeup overlay. How Has This Been Tested? 97. Description In commit 0aa61abe7 (armbian-audio-config: Massively speed up script) this script was changed to not call amixer for each control, but just once for each card, feeding commands for many controls in one invocation with the --stdin option. In that commit, two errors were introduced: Controls that were intended to be muted were turned on instead. This affects the "CD", "Mic" and "Internal Speaker" controls. This occured because there is a helper shell function whose arguments were renumbered, but the last argument kept the old numbering, keeping it always at the default value of "on", even when it should have been "mute". Controls with a space in their na…
