Description The BOOTPATCHDIR and KERNELPATCHDIR variables can contain multiple directories names separated by spaces as explained in lib/functions/compilation/uboot-patching.sh and lib/functions/compilation/kernel-patching.sh respectively but when calculating hash we were treating it as a single directory name. Also as ATF and crust gets bundled in u-boot, the hash of their patches must also be considered to determine if we need to rebuild u-boot How Has This Been Tested? I have started this months ago, but due to high demand from other subjects (armbian-next) haven't had time to finish. What I did here was take Khadas tree (.66) and rebase it on top of rk3.4/Radxa tree (.110) for the rock-5b, similar to what was done for the OrangePi5. Some patches conflicted and I intervened (those are marked as intervention). This needs review, a board file, a developer with the new Khadas I/O board for UART, and some luck, patience to fix my mistakes, and might just work. Who knows? If it's useless just bin this... There's two patch files, one with stuff I deemed "required" and other with stuff "might be nice". The MCU stuff of Khadas is heavily ent…

Description The idea is to introduce the possibility to cache downloads from GH runners to lower downstream bandwidth used and increase overall speed. Especially on machines with lots of runner this could save quite some bandwidth while sacrificing disk space. http caching has been tested and seem to work nicely. https caching is a lot more tricky and may be introduced later. This PR has two parts: set apt repository to http instead of https where possible. Packages are signed anyways. Pass various proxy environment variables to docker so it respects those. Doesn't make sense not to pass them since when using PREFER_DOCKER=no and any of these variables are set beforeh…

STMicro ST87M01 is a compact, low-power, programmable LTE Cat NB2 (NB-IoT) industrial cellular module with GNSS geo-location capability for “massive IoT” deployments and asset tracking applications. STMicro already had several LPWAN solutions such as the STM32WL LoRa SoC, a Wi-SUN transceiver, a few SigFox chips, and a bunch of proprietary sub-GHz chips, but no cellular IoT solutions of their own although the STM32 microcontroller can be found in many third-party solutions. The ST87M01 NB-IoT and GNSS module changes that, so let’s have a closer look. Espressif Systems has just announced the Matter-compatible ESP-ZeroCode modules with Wi-Fi and/or Thread (802.15.4) wireless connectivity that are designed as plug-and-play solutions for LED lights, outlets, switches, dimmers, relays, fans, and other lighting and electrical devices. I was only recently introduced to no-code programming in a recent post by Ninephon Kongangkab explaining how to use SenseCraft firmware for no-code programming on Wio Terminal. Basically, there’s no need to know Arduino, MicroPython, or any programming language, as the user just has to press a few buttons to configure an IoT device to meet his/her requirements. With the ESP-ZeroCode modules, E…

This week in Armbian development saw significant progress across board support and kernel updates. New boards such as the Cainiao CNIOT Core, EByte ECB41-PGE, DG SVR 865 Tiny, and NORCO EMB-3531 received initial support, expanding hardware compatibility. Kernel patches were rewritten for the meson64 and rockchip64 platforms, aligning with version 6.18.18, while edge releases were bumped to 7.0-rc3 and rc4. Improvements included enhanced SD card and audio support for SpacemiT and Youyeetoo YY3588 boards, as well as refined configuration checks and display fixes. Several upstream patches were dropped or disabled, and the Dependabot schedule was updated for daily maintenance…

Description Bump 32-bit kernel to 6.3.8. I didn't bumped it for 64-bit sunxi devices as drv-rgb-add-ws2812.patch introduced in #5267 makes use of of_get_named_gpio_flags function which is removed in 6.3. As I don't have a Bigtreetech cb1, I am not comfortable modifying code to fix this patch. The kernel module added by drv-rgb-add-ws2812.patch is not enabled for 32-bit devices and hence it doesn't cause compilation issues on 32-bit sunxi kernel. Excluding drv-rgb-add-ws2812.patch, I have updated any patch that was broken, and have disabled patches where changes were present upstream. Also disabled same rockchip related patches that I disabled in #5326 How Has This Been …

Dear Armbians, Armbian point releases are times when our entire team works diligently to stabilize our highly complex ecosystem. We understand that, despite our best efforts, there will always be some issues that may not work perfectly. We estimate that resolving bugs and adding new features for each release takes thousands of hours to be completed. This is what the Armbian and its community contributes on top of the vanilla Linux code, which is aggregated at common points, usually referred to as mainline. The code, contributed by many individuals, is intended to be stable. However, given the complexity of the Linux kernel and its maintenance by a diverse group of people…

Two years ago, we reviewed CrowPi 2 Raspberry Pi 4 laptop designed for STEM education with embedded electronics modules and Letscode software with step-by-step tutorials to learn Scratch and Python programming. I found it quite good, but many people were mostly interested in having a Raspberry Pi 4 laptop, and the price tag was a bit high at the time. That’s probably why Elecrow has now designed for CrowPi L laptop shell for Raspberry Pi 4 based on the CrowPi 2 but without all the electronics modules, and with a built-in battery to operate more like an actual laptop. CrowPi L laptop shell specifications: Compatible SBC’s – Raspberry Pi 4 Model B only Storage – Full-size S…

Lyra V2 is an update to the open-source Lyra audio codec introduced last year by Google, with a new architecture that offers scalable bitrate capabilities, better performance, higher quality audio, and works on more platforms. Under the hood, Lyra V2 is based on an end-to-end neural audio codec called SoundStream with a “residual vector quantizer” (RVQ) sitting before and after the transmission channel, and that can change the audio bitrate at any time by selecting the number of quantizers to use. Three bitrates are supported: 3.2 kps, 6 kbps, and 9.2 kbps. Lyra V2 leverages artificial intelligence, and a TensorFlow Lite model enables it to run on Android phones, Linux, a…

Quantum computing promise a leap in the performance of applications relying upon parallelism using the properties of quantum physics like superposition, interference, and entanglement to perform computation instead of flipping “0” and “1” like traditional transistors. It will be used in scientific simulations, cryptography, machine learning, computational biology, and more. So far, I had seen massive quantum computers in research labs, but companies like Intel and IBM are working on providing quantum processors with hundreds and thousands of qubits that should eventually be found in supercomputers. It’s unclear to me whether we’ll ever see “quantum accelerators” in embedd…

AMD has just launched the Ryzen Embedded V3000 family of processors with four to eight Zen3 cores, a DDR5 memory interface, twenty PCIe Gen4 lanes, and two 10GbE interfaces that make it ideal for storage and networking applications, especially since there’s no GPU at all. The new embedded processors succeed the Ryzen Embedded V2000 Zen2 family introduced two years ago, and the Ryzen V1000 processors in 2018. For some reason, AMD decided to compare the new V3000 processors against the latter and claims up to 124% greater CPU performance, 50% improved memory transfer rate, twice the number of CPU cores, and improved I/O connectivity. There are five Ryzen Embedded V3000 SKUs…
