Description Please note that this PR does not merge to main, but to another branch for collaboration. This is a continuation of v2: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6800 @pyavitz has already done a nice job in v1 and v2 of this PR. Based on this work, I have put a lot of effort in trying to bring this new board family more in line with existing families as well as trying to improve maintainability for the long term. Another concern with v2 was the sheer size of the PR (~55MB which amounts to almost 10% of the repo or ~2.4 million LOC which amounts to over 50% of the current repo). v3 brings down this size considerably, to a more sane number: v2 v3 Shrinkage …

The Bee Motion S3 is an ESP32-S3 WiFi and Bluetooth IoT board with a PIR motion sensor beside the more usual I/Os, Qwiic connector, USB-C port, and LiPo battery support. It is at least the third PIR motion wireless board from Smart Bee Designs, as the company previously introduced the ESP32-S2 powered Bee Motion board and the ultra-small Bee Motion Mini with an ESP32-C3 SoC. The new Bee Motion S3 adds a few more I/Os, a light sensor, and the ESP32-S3’s AI vector extensions could potentially be used for faster and/or lower-power TinyML processing. Banana Pi has started selling an inexpensive 2.5Gbps SFP to RJ45 adapter for their Banana Pi BPI-R3 WiFi 6 router board that goes for $17.89 plus shipping ($25 shipped here) on Aliexpress. The BPI-R3 router includes five Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports as well as two 2.5GbE SFP cages, but since not everybody has equipment that takes SFP cables, they used to sell it with a $30 TP-Link adapter. The company now appears to have found a cheaper model marked “SFP-2.5G-T” module that works with their board. It’s designed to be inserted into one of the 2.5GbE SFP cages and provide a more common 2.5GbE RJ45 port to the user. There’s very little information about the module except its …

MCU boards, including the $1.5 BluePill board, have been used as cheap logic analyzers for years, notably with Sigrok open-source software. So it should come as no surprise the $4 Raspberry Pi Pico board can also be used as a logic analyzer, with one developer claiming it can deliver 100 Msps, or the performance obtained with a 1.6 GHz CPU, thanks to the PIOs from the Raspberry Pi RP2040. Hackaday reported about a Sigrok driver for the Pico last March, but the topic was brought to our attention via a post on Hackster.io about an open-source Windows program developed from scratch to transform the Raspberry Pi Pico board into a logic analyzer capable of 100 Msps. The recently mainlined RTW88 driver for the RTL8723DS does not work at all on the RockPI-S No error messages, but no radio either. The RTW88 driver also blocks the bluetooth radio as well. Reverting back to RTL's own driver, which is still in the patched tree, fixes all this. I'll be working with the RTW88 driver authors get their 8723DS driver working, but, my experience with the RTW88 driver for the USB bus version of this WiFi chip is that it uses significantly more CPU than RTL's driver. To cope with the ever expanding Linux kernel, this patch also includes overriding u-boot's value of fdt_addr_r in the RockPI-s boot.cmd script. Please include a summary of the chan…

Description Support Xunlei Onecloud Xunlei Onecloud used to be popular in China due to it's cheapness(Only 50 yuan, about 8 dollar). Due to the lack of drivers, the vpu(Video Processing Unit) and hdmi are not working. Fortunately I found a thirdpart kernel xdarklight/linux support them. I will open another PR for it due to it affect not only this but also another meson8b deviecs - Odroid C1. Also I didn't add u-boot parameter. Beacuse: I didn't find a suitable u-boot source It isn't a development board, it could only boot from emmc's u-boot How Has This Been Tested? We wrote about the UP 4000 SBC with an Intel Apollo Lake processor and Raspberry Pi form factor yesterday. But today, I noticed the UP community had put up a benchmarks comparison between the UP 4000 board, the original UP board (Atom x5-8350), the Raspberry Pi 4, and NVIDIA Jetson Nano. They used several of the Phoronix Test Suite benchmarks running on Ubuntu 20.04 (x86) or Ubuntu 18.04 (Arm) on all four boards. The UP 4000 board used featured an Intel Celeron N3350 dual-core processor @ 2.40GHz, the 2GB RAM version of the UP Board, an RPi 4 with 4GB RAM, and a Jetson Nano developer kit with 4GB RAM. As one would have expected, the UP 4000 is ahead in most tests, even t…

Description As described in the forum topic https://forum.armbian.com/topic/35677-tinkerboard-not-booting-after-updates/#comment-185896, upgrading on Asus Tinkerboard breaks the bootloader and prevents the entire system to reboot. Please let me know if you know why this is 😄 The commit includes a fix from https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/7488222b2aac8bc6a395b6714dbac3f88177585e View the full article

This week in Armbian development saw significant progress across board support, desktop environments, and infrastructure. Notably, NanoPC T6 LTS Plus was added as a reusable board, and support for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS ("Resolute") expanded to desktop package coverage and testing. Multiple improvements targeted desktop environments, including package updates, installation fixes, and branding enhancements for browsers. Kernel and bootloader updates were implemented for various boards, with mainline kernel bumped to 7.0 stable and u-boot upgrades for Rockchip devices. Infrastructure enhancements included new CI workflows, multi-arch unit tests, and migration to a REST API. Sever…

Wireless power, no matter how inefficient it may be, sounds good and even looks good with the “5V remote wireless power supply LED pack” we feature in this post. It also feels magical with the LEDs lighting up thanks to magnetic resonance coupling technology. The solution comes with a coil as a transmitter and each LED bead also includes a small coil as a receiver. When the two are coupled, energy can be transferred from the transmitter to the receiver through the air, paper, or plastic casing, and the LEDs will light up. The magnetic field intensity in this technology is said to be similar to that of the Earth’s magnetic field, and it will not be harmful to human health …
