“Block after Block” has designed a dual-display tabletop retro-gaming console using plywood edge grain and a Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard PC that allows players to physically face each other during a fight or other gameplay. While there’s a galore of projects based on Raspberry Pi SBCs, the Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard PC is more like a consumer product due to its form factor, but Block after Block integrated the PC into its own retro-gaming console which involved a lot of woodworking skills and installing RetroPie on the Pi 400 device. This DIY project mostly involves spending time in a workshop cutting wood, and once you’re done with this part, it should be pretty straightfor…

Less than a month ago, we upgraded our build framework to the new system, and we are pleased to inform you that we have managed to fix most of the obvious bugs. However, if you encounter any bug related to the build framework, feel free to open an issue on our GitHub page. Pro bono help in closing issues is most welcome! Armbian 23.05 release planning is underway with a primary focus on cleaning up the list of supported boards. Maintainers who don’t attend the meeting risk losing support status for their board. We wrote about the low-cost T8-Pro Celeron N5095 mini PC with three HDMI outputs and two Gigabit Ethernet ports last week, but if you’d prefer a model with 2.5GbE networking instead, the Partaker J6412 might be a better, albeit costlier option, with still three displays support (2xDP, 1xHDMI), and three 2.5GbE ports. As its name implies, the fanless mini PC/network appliance is powered by an Intel Celeron J6412 Elkhart Lake processor, coupled with up to 16GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD, and it features six USB ports, plus an RS232 COM port. Sharing latest packages, images or application deployments can be tedious and time-consuming. Mistakes are made very easily when time is not on our side. And as containerized micro-services increase, it becomes challenging to detect integration issues, which can impact release timelines and extend lead time for changes or LTC (Lead Time to Change). Armbian is a community-driven open-source operating system that solves this challenge by providing optimized Debian and Ubuntu Linux images for ARM development boards and ARM-based single board computers. This allows software teams to streamline the development process, speed up release to production, and deploy and maintain…

Description The current kernel.sh build system uses the grab_version() function in utils-compilation.sh to determine the version string of the kernel and locate the build artifacts after make has completed. grab_version is a simple implementation that parses the makefile to guess the final kernel version, but if a userpatch has been applied to the kernel that includes a localversion-xx file (the PREEMPT_RT patch does this, for example), the returned value will be wrong (grab_version returns 5.10.110 when the true value used to name the vmlinuz image is 5.10.110-rt53-rockchip-rk3588) Thank you to @rpardini on Discord for helping me identify a fix for this issue. Espressif Systems ESP32-C5 is an upcoming wireless RISC-V microcontroller for IoT applications that supports dual-band (2.4 & 5.0 GHz) WiFi 6 connectivity as well as Bluetooth 5.0 LE. It is the first dual-band processor from Espressif, as while the Shanghai-based company previously announced the ESP32-C6 WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5 LE RISC-V SoC last year, it only supports 2.4 GHz frequency. Note it’s not the first dual-band WiFi 6 IoT chip on the market as NXP introduced the IW612 Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 802.15.4 tri-radio solution last January, but ESP32-C5 should target different use cases. ESP32-C5 preliminary specifications: CPU – Single-core 32-bit RISC-V processor @…

Instead of using orange-pi branch from megous tree for 6.6 kernel, I have used the following 6.6 kernel branches from megous tree a83t-suspend, af8133j, anx, audio, axp, cam, err, fixes, mbus, modem, opi3, pb, pinetab, pp, ppkb, samuel, speed, tbs-a711, ths These branches were carefully chosen to include only allwinner related patches and remove importing of most of the rockchip related patches into the allwinner kernel. This has led to decrease in the total applied patch count by 84. We now apply 407 patches instead of 491 patches as applied in 6.5 kernel, while all functionality will remain the same. …

Description Some high-resolution monitors (QHD/4K) will not output the desktop, and will enter sleep mode, directly after booting up an Armbian 23.8.1 desktop image and completing the initial setup questions. When such a monitor is attached, the kernel will auto-detect the SimpleDRM graphics driver, which is then prioritized over the Panfrost graphics driver. However, SimpleDRM outputs to a virtual output, while Panfrost outputs to the actual HDMI port. This causes the monitor to not receive any data. By blacklisting the simpledrm kernel module, Panfrost will take care of accelerated graphics (for any monitor) by default. Advanced users can still access simpledrm if req…

James Brown (aka Ancient) has built a tiny computer inside a LEGO brick with a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller and a 0.42-inch monochrome OLED display. And yes, it runs Doom. So finally, the LEGO minifigures have access to a computer suitable for their size :). James did not post a lot of information to reproduce the build by yourself, but he still released the “uGrey” code, written in Micropython, to display greyscale on a monochrome OLED. We can learn from the design in a mesmerizing video (embedded at the end of this post) showing how he made a Raspberry Pi RP2040 computer fit into a LEGO brick. The tiny design is comprised of five main boards/modules: Raspberry Pi…
