Description One user on the forum (see https://forum.armbian.com/topic/27798-orange-pi-4-lts-default-thermal-trip-point-issues/) found issues with Orange PI 4 LTS thermal trip points. Looking into the problem, it is related to a patch introduced long time ago that changed the thermal trip points away from the vendor (and mainline kernel too) supplied ones. After some stress testing with openssl and mbw combined, my board froze and I had to shutdown it manually, let it cool and restart to have again a working system. It happens that, at least on my and forum user cases, the trip points are not doing what they expect to do. This patch corrects the trip points for Opi4 LT…

To me, an ATX power supply is one of those big boxes delivering 500W+ inside a PC tower, but since it’s not possible to create hardware with much lower power consumption, HDPLEX has designed an ultra-compact 250W passive ATX power supply using the same GaN (Gallium Nitride) technology as found in some tiny USB-C power supplies. With a 170x50x25mm footprint, the company claims it is the world’s smallest ATX PSU, and it is especially well suited to SFF PC enclosures, but it should also work pretty well in other space-constraints applications with a board equipped with an ATX connector, or through an adapter board, or even some RGB LED projects. GaN ATX power supply specific…

PINE64 is about to launch the second generation Pinecil RISC-V soldering iron with the Pinecil V2 featuring a new Bouffalo Lab BL706 RISC-V microcontroller with Bluetooth LE connectivity, optimizations for higher power levels, as well as tentative support for the new USB PD EPR standard (Extended Power Range) working at up to 28V. I don’t solder every day, but when I do, I use my Pinecil soldering iron, as it’s heating super fast and does the job, and in my case, works quite better than the TS100 soldering iron. So it should come as no surprise that the Pincel is the most popular consumer hardware from the PINE64 community (after SOPine modules), and the new Pinecil V2 is…

Description This PR includes the following changes I noticed that we were making use of r_i2c to communicate with AXP chip for Orange Pi lite2 and one plus in linux kernel, but were using r_rsb in u-boot. Made this consistent by porting the patch used in sunxi kernel to u-boot. Moved to board specific crust config for Orange Pi 3, lite2 and one plus. The difference from previous configuration is that crust will now be aware of presence of AXP power chip present on the board and hence should be able to lower the power usage further during sleep or shutdown state Enabled kernel module for Hantro G2 video codec block available on H6 boards. Should allow faster video decodi…

Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced the ULC1001 digital signal processor (DSP) ultrasonic lens cleaning (ULC) technology designed – when combined with DRV2901 piezo transducer driver – for self-cleaning camera systems to quickly detect and remove dirt, ice, and water using microscopic vibrations. Cameras used in the automotive, industrial, robotics, and smart farming industries may require cleaning from time to time and that usually means manual cleaning leading to potential downtime, higher maintenance cost, and so on. It could also be done through mechanical parts but that adds further complexity to the system, so instead, Texas Instruments ULC1001 and DRV2901 combo e…

If we use grub-efi-amd64-bin, grub-install will embed prefix in core.img which will be copied to /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.efi. We can confirm in output/debug/install.log grub-install: info: grub-mkimage --directory '/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc' --prefix '(,gpt1)/boot/grub' --output '/boot/grub/i386-pc/core.img' --dtb '' --format 'i386-pc' --compression 'auto' 'ext2' 'part_gpt' 'biosdisk' ... grub-install: info: copying `/boot/grub/x86_64-efi/core.efi' -> `/boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BO…

Purism has just announced the Lapdock kit to turn their Librem 5 Linux smartphone into a laptop with a 13.3-inch touchscreen display thanks to the NexDock 360 laptop dock. I was a big believer in mobile desktop convergence around 10 years ago, expected to be soon able to use my phone as a computer or laptop with a dock, and it looked like it might have become a reality when Canonical launched the Ubuntu Edge smartphone crowdfunding campaign in 2013. But it turns out demand was not sufficient, and Canonical eventually ended their convergence efforts focusing on profitable IoT and cloud segments instead. But that does not mean there isn’t a niche market and Purism’s Lapdock…

This week's development centered on kernel and toolchain progression, expanded board support, and substantial wireless driver cleanup. Mainline tracking advanced with kernel bumps to 7.2-rc7, Rockchip edge promoted to 7.2, and sunxi edge moved to 7.1.y. Platform work included loong64 migration from debian-ports to the main Debian archive with corresponding apt repository publishing, mainline kernel and U-Boot enablement on the Avaota A1, restored CONFIG_DWMAC_SUN8I for sunxi64, and a new RK3528 bl32/DDR blob update. Rockchip64 also received backported fixes for an 8250 DMA reopen crash and for CAN TX stalls. Board coverage grew across multiple vendors, with the NanoPi NEO…

Description Kernel config for rockchip64 for kernel 6.0 got a sudden overhaul I don't know it was wanted or not. That caused the addition of a huge number of unneeded modules (Parallel ATA, Intel enterprise things, PCI drivers, NAND support and drivers, and other crap) that causes a grow in compressed modules size of 20 megabytes and 2 megabyte more on the kernel image plus several other insane settings, like CMA set to 384 megabytes. I had no trouble with my first experience with NanoPi R6S while installing and running the FriendlyWrt/OpenWrt 22.03 image, but that was another story when testing Ubuntu or Debian as the mini PC would not boot at all after flashing the images with eFlasher apparently successfully, but suspiciously fast (under 2 seconds). I spent nearly four hours trying the different images and then the Rockchip Windows utility, but all my attempts failed, and FriendlyElec was not overly helpful. So I decided to connect a serial console to see what was going on. The NanoPi R6S comes with a 3-pin header for the serial console, but it’s not populated. So I soldering one, but not at the top…
