  5. The PineTab-V is a RISC-V tablet, or rather a tablet development kit, based on StarFive JH7110 quad-core RISC-V SoC, and with the same design as the upcoming Arm-based PineTab2 tablet that’s scheduled to launch on April 11. Pine64 just launched the Star64 single board computer to help with software development on Linux-capable RISC-V hardware, and they took the opportunity to lay out a tablet board based on the same JH7110 to replace the Rockchip RK3566 board found in the PineTab2, so eventually, a working sample should look like that… PineTab-V preliminary specifications: SoC – StarFive JH7110 with CPU – Quad-core 64-bit RISC-V (SiFive U74 – RV64GC) processor @ up to 1.5…

  11. Description Add a patch series to support VEPU121/VPU121, which mainly enables hardware decoding for H.264. It can also decode MPEG2 and VP8 as well as do JPEG encoding. Usually I am against bloating the kernel with patches since it makes it more difficult to maintain. But having access to the RK3588's H.264 decoder is really useful for day to day tasks. 16. Morpheans ShaRPiKeebo is a portable Linux computer based on Raspberry Pi Zero W or Zero 2 W SBC that reminds me of the Allwinner R8 powered PocketCHIP handheld computer that was introduced in 2016, and was quite popular (for a niche product) at the time. The ShaRPiKeebo comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard, a daylight-readable screen, and Wi-Fi & Bluetooth connectivity, but also adds a 433 MHz LoRa radio that should make it usable as an off-the-grid communicator. Just like PocketCHIP, the ShaRPiKeebo can be used for system administration, retro-gaming, pen testing, STEM education, and all sort of maker projects. 21. Sphery vs. shapes is an open-source 3D raytraced game written in C and translated into FPGA bitstream that runs 50 times more efficiently on FPGA hardware than on an AMD Ryzen processor. Verilog and VHDL languages typically used on FPGA are not well-suited to game development or other complex applications, so instead, Victor Suarez Rovere and Julian Kemmerer relied on Julian’s “PipelineC” C-like hardware description language (HDL) and Victor’s CflexHDL tool that include parser/generator and math types library in order to run the same code on PC with a standard compile, and on FPGA through a custom C to VHDL translator. More details about the game development and results a…

We started the review of GL.inet GL-MT2500A security gateway, aka Brume 2, with an unboxing and teardown, and I’ve now had time to test the router in more detail so I’ll report my experience using the router with OpenVPN and WireGuard VPN, Tor, Adguard Home, and more. In a nutshell, it’s super easy to use, unless your ISP causes troubles, which it did in this case. Brume 2 connection and initial setup I connected the WAN port of the Brume 2 router to 3BB’s modem router (3BB is an ISP in Thailand), the LAN port to my laptop, and finally the USB-C power supply (power draws is 2.3 Watts at idle). 23. PICMG has announced that the COM-HPC Mini form factor’s pinout and dimensions definitions were finalized, with the tiny credit card-sized modules able to handle PCIe Gen4 and Gen5 interfaces, of course, depending on whether the selected CPU supports those. The COM-HPC “High-Performance Computing” form factor was created a few years ago due to the lack of interfaces on the COM Express form factor with “only” 440-pins and potential issues to handle PCIe Gen 4 clock speeds and throughputs. So far, we had COM-HPC Client Type modules from 95 x 120mm (Size A) to 160 x 120mm (Size C) and Server Type modules with either 160 x 160mm (Size D) or 200 x 160mm (Size E) dimensions. The…

Beelink kindly sent a SER6 Pro unit for review however since receiving the mini PC, Beelink have ‘refreshed’ the processor to use an AMD Ryzen 7 7735H also with AMD Radeon 680M graphics, and called it the SER6 Pro Refresh. 27. After rtw_usb_alloc_rx_bufs() has been called rx urbs have been allocated and must be freed in the error path. After rtw_usb_init_rx() has been called they are submitted, so they also must be killed. Add these forgotten steps to the probe error path. Besides the lost memory this also fixes a problem when the driver fails to download the firmware in rtw_chip_info_setup(). In this case it can happen that the completion of the rx urbs handler runs at a time when we already freed our data structures resulting in a kernel crash. 31. Running Gemma 4 E2B on a Mali GPU with LiteRT-LMThis guide should work on any armbian minimal/console (trixie) system with a working Mali-g610 GPU. DO NOT USE DESKTOP Verified on: Orange Pi 5 Max (Rockchip RK3588, Arm Mali-G610 MC4), Armbian/Debian 13 (trixie), aarch64, 8 GB RAM. Status summary: Both CPU (XNNPACK) and GPU (WebGPU/Dawn → Vulkan → panvk → panthor) work on the mainline panthor kernel — numbers below. The GPU path needed one line of local patching in Mesa's panvk driver (raise maxImageDimension3D 512 → 2048 to meet the WebGPU minimums that LiteRT's Dawn library enforces; recipe in §5, rationale in §7.1). 32. This resolves a bug that affects r8153b USB network interface causing the RX interface to hang on load. On some xHCI controllers (e.g. Rockchip RK3399/RK3328/RK1808), they need to enable the ENT flag in the TRB data structure to force xHC to prefetch the next TRB of a TD. The quirk patch is already applied to dwc3 xhci usb on rockchip64, and enabled for rk3399. 33. Description Sorry for uplifting the discussion again around the PWM patch for rockchip64 again, but I did some further tests and I'm not convinced. The patch rk3568-pwm-rockchip.patch looks like a copy-paste patch from rockchip v5.10 kernel and I can't find it on patchwork.kernel.org patches, so I guess it is not suitable for mainline. There is some weird behaviour I'm experiencing. My test board is the rk3318 tvbox, but this is not a cons; instead this is a pro and I'm going to explain why: these tvboxes lacks proper voltage regulator chips (like rk805 or rk808) and instead heavily relies on PWM to do power regulation for CPU and Logic planes. When PWM goes nuts, the bo…

This week's work advances on three fronts: kernel and bleedingedge alignment across Rockchip and Sunxi trees, board and platform enablement spanning RV1106 to SpacemiT, and CI hardening with self-hosted runner maintenance. On the kernel side, bleedingedge was bumped to 7.1-rc3, accompanied by cfg80211 API fixes and re-enablement of the rtl8189fs and rtl8852bs drivers for the new release. Both the rockchip64 and sunxi patch stacks for current and edge were rewritten, an upstream ptrace fix for CVE-2026-46333 was backported to linux-rockchip, and the odroidxu4-current kernel moved to 6.6.139. STMicro VL53L8 multi-zone direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) sensor doubles the ranging performance of VL53L5 sensor – up to 4 meters – or reduces the power consumption by half when operating in common conditions. 58. Description Removed lcd node when screen is not attached. Turns out the Khadas u-boot has some code hidden deep within pxe.c file to enable and disable lcd screen. As we don't use extlinux for vim1s and vim4, that doesn't get executed for us leaving the device to detect ghost screens. Hence copied the code to bootscript in order to disable the lcd screens when they are not really present. This makes the vim4 and vim1s a lot more responsive. Also fixes issue where we can't login to gnome because login screen was being rendered on non-existent lcd screen. Fixed issue that prevented armbian-bsp-cli package for meson-s4t7 family to uninstall because of the added /etc/initram…

  60. Platform enablement was broad. The Ayn Odin2 gained 7.0 kernel support, the Mekotr…

  61. 62. Qualcomm unveiled a new Wireless AR Smart Viewer Reference Design powered by the Snapdragon XR2 platform last week with very few details, but the company has now demonstrated the system to some members of the press, so let’s have a closer look. The reference design aims to provide a similar level of performance as a headset connected to PC or premium smartphone, but with some of the processing offloaded to the Snapdragon XR2 processor, thereby eliminating the need for a cord while still achieving lag-free experiences in combination with the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 solution. It is supposed to offer a 40% thinner profile and a more balanced weight…
