  2. Smart Bee Designs’ Bee Motion is an ESP32-S2 board with a PIR motion sensor, some GPIOs for expansion, and promising over a year of battery life under the right circumstances. If the name “Bee Motion” rings a bell, it’s because we covered the Bee Motion Mini board last month with an ESP32-C3 processor and a PIR sensor, but no USB port for programming and no expansion ability. It was just designed to be used as a battery-powered wireless PIR motion sensor. The Bee Motion expands the use cases of the solution, although it only features WiFi connectivity, and loses Bluetooth LE. Bee Motion specifications: Wireless module – Espressif ESP32-S2-MINI-1 module with Espressif ESP3…

  7. BMAX have relaunched their B3 Plus mini PC, aka MaxMini B3 Plus, with an upgraded Intel Celeron N5095 processor and a more distinctive design by having a novel way of accessing both the internal storage and memory together with being very lightweight in construction. BMAX kindly sent one for review and given the B3 Plus is similar to other mini PCs I’ve tested, I’m only going to take a cursory look at performance benchmarks and only whilst running Windows together with looking at the key features of this particular device. BMAX B3 Plus hardware overview The BMAX B3 Plus physically consists of a 125 x 112 x 44mm (4.92 x 4.41 x 1.73 inches) square plastic case. As an active…

  9. There is no way to support this on s905 TV Boxes while reusing the android u-boot as the android uboot on s905 conflicts with the partition table location of standard mainline linux (this only impacts s905 boxes; s905x[wl], x2, x3, etc will work). So this removes the old script that claimed to support this. The Amlogic TV Box install instructions on the forum have been updated to reflect this change. Winlink E850-96Board is a 96Boards CE Extended-compliant single board computer (SBC) based on a Samsung Exynos 850 octa-core Cortex-A55 processor plus 64GB flash and 4GB RAM found in a single eMCP (embedded Multi-Chip Package) chip. While the Samsung Exynos 5422 based ODROID-XU4/XU4Q was one of the most popular SBCs when it launched in 2015 thanks to its features set and affordable pricing, we haven’t really seen other interesting Samsung Exynos SBCs in recent years. I did notice a Winlink E850-96Board based on Exynos 850 in the Linux 5.17 release last March, but there was not enough information then. The good news is that the board has now launched so let’s have a closer…

  20. Canonical has just released Ubuntu Core 22, a containerized variant of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, optimized for IoT devices and embedded systems and supporting Ubuntu’s new real-time kernel. In Ubuntu Core, everything is a snap, including the kernel, OS, and applications both to improve security to sandbox each package and to enable updates of specific packages from the IoT App Store over-the-air (OTA). If something goes wrong during the update, the system will automatically roll back to the previous version, so the device cannot be bricked. The Snap system also minimizes network traffic through delta updates. Ubuntu Core 22 also provides advanced security features with secure bo…

  24. Hey, Karl here, and today we are going to review Creality’s CR-Scan Lizard. This device is a 3D scanner that uses the structured light process to 3D scan. Instead of visible light, it uses non-visible light. I have no idea where lizards come into play but here we are. I have been waiting for quite some time for a lower-cost consumer 3D scanner. I attempted a DIY structured light scanner a long time ago, with some success…..but the time it took was unacceptable. It took me hours to set up perfectly and many more cleaning up point clouds and aligning even for a small scan. Leading me to give up on the project. I search around the Internet periodically but have never found a…

  34. Description HDMI-rx does not properly report if it is plugged out and says that it is plugged in all the time. The cause is the following. There is an irq that is watching a gpio for 5v high. During the plugout method for the driver, the driver resets the device state. If the irq that is watching for gpio 5 volts is not disabled during this time, it triggers on a transient voltage and sets the driver to run the "High"/plugged in logic. By the time the driver reaches the high logic, the gpio is low again, which resets the cycle by re-calling the plugout method. This is probably why @efectn disabled the log in 0a0eb46 , because it's so noisy and spams the logs. I don't …

I started the NanoPi R5S review with an unboxing, a teardown, a quick try of the pre-installed OpenWrt-based FriendlyWrt, and some iperf3 benchmarks on the 2.5GbE interfaces that were rather disappointing. I test further I switched to the Ubuntu 20.04-based FriendlyCore image since I’m more familiar with Debian-based operating systems, and some tools will not run on OpenWrt. Note the performance is still not quite optimal, and that’s why I call this a preview since numbers should improve in the next few months as more people tweak the software. OpenWrt optimizations? But feature jumping to Ubuntu, I gave an updated version of FriendlyWrt a give as FriendElec told me they …

  88. A common and effective way to use multiple kernels on a single-board computer (SBC) running Armbian is to use separate SD cards. This approach is especially useful for testing new kernels, experimenting with different kernel versions, or even trying out other Linux distributions all without risking your main, stable system. Since most SBCs prioritize booting from an SD card, this method keeps things simple and reliable. In this tutorial, we’ll walk through how to set up multiple SD cards with different Armbian kernels. PrerequisitesBefore getting started, make sure you have: Your SBC - e.g., Orange Pi, Rock Pi, Odroid, or another supported board.Multiple SD cards - one pe…
