RK3328 UART1 and I2C0 are available on Orange Pi R1 Plus LTS 13 pin connector. Add device tree overlay files for rk3328 uart1 and i2c0. I have noticed chatter on Github (@rpardini) around dtbo naming conventions. I'm therefore not absolutely clear on what is expected. Historic dtbo's for rk33xx are formatted with a rockchip prefix (there are some exceptions). I've used the rockchip prefix: rockchip-rk3328-i2c0.dtbo rockchip-rk3328-uart1.dtbo And the "Hardware" selection in armbian-config displays them correctly without the prefix. Jira reference number AR-1509 [x] Builds correctly and produces the dtbo's [x] Tested that the "Hardware" can be selected via armbian-…

Hey Karl here. I am going to be sharing my experience with the xTool D1 Pro 20W. It is a 20W laser cutter/engraver with a 340x390mm working area. It has been heavily reviewed and I will comment on a few points I have not seen spoken about. I join a lot of Facebook groups for these reviews to get real-world feedback and ideas to write about. With nearly all forms of digital fabrication, I regularly read about misconceptions and frustration that stem from unknowingly purchasing a machine that requires a substantial amount of time and patience to learn. For this review, I kept a daily log and will summarize the time it took me to complete one project. I did get sidetracked o…

Description stmmac ethernet driver is in use on all rockchip SoCs; its statistics system has been revised on kernel 6.6, but something is not working correctly right now on 32 bit platforms and a lock contemption happens very often when an userland process tries to read the statistics of the ethernet device. One of the most common victim is vnstat daemon, which often gets stuck hogging a cpu core and skyrocketing the average load. This also makes the whole kernel angry, RCU complains, processes hang, and so on... The patch provides a horrible workaround (remove the mutual exclusion in the reader) to fix the problem temporarely. This may break ethernet statistics that ca…

Smart Bee Designs’ Bee Motion is an ESP32-S2 board with a PIR motion sensor, some GPIOs for expansion, and promising over a year of battery life under the right circumstances. If the name “Bee Motion” rings a bell, it’s because we covered the Bee Motion Mini board last month with an ESP32-C3 processor and a PIR sensor, but no USB port for programming and no expansion ability. It was just designed to be used as a battery-powered wireless PIR motion sensor. The Bee Motion expands the use cases of the solution, although it only features WiFi connectivity, and loses Bluetooth LE. Bee Motion specifications: Wireless module – Espressif ESP32-S2-MINI-1 module with Espressif ESP3…

There is no way to support this on s905 TV Boxes while reusing the android u-boot as the android uboot on s905 conflicts with the partition table location of standard mainline linux (this only impacts s905 boxes; s905x[wl], x2, x3, etc will work). Canonical has just released Ubuntu Core 22, a containerized variant of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, optimized for IoT devices and embedded systems and supporting Ubuntu’s new real-time kernel. In Ubuntu Core, everything is a snap, including the kernel, OS, and applications both to improve security to sandbox each package and to enable updates of specific packages from the IoT App Store over-the-air (OTA). If something goes wrong during the update, the system will automatically roll back to the previous version, so the device cannot be bricked. The Snap system also minimizes network traffic through delta updates. Ubuntu Core 22 also provides advanced security features with secure bo…

Hey, Karl here, and today we are going to review Creality’s CR-Scan Lizard. This device is a 3D scanner that uses the structured light process to 3D scan. Instead of visible light, it uses non-visible light. I have no idea where lizards come into play but here we are. I have been waiting for quite some time for a lower-cost consumer 3D scanner. I attempted a DIY structured light scanner a long time ago, with some success…..but the time it took was unacceptable. It took me hours to set up perfectly and many more cleaning up point clouds and aligning even for a small scan. Leading me to give up on the project. Description HDMI-rx does not properly report if it is plugged out and says that it is plugged in all the time. The cause is the following. There is an irq that is watching a gpio for 5v high. During the plugout method for the driver, the driver resets the device state. If the irq that is watching for gpio 5 volts is not disabled during this time, it triggers on a transient voltage and sets the driver to run the "High"/plugged in logic. By the time the driver reaches the high logic, the gpio is low again, which resets the cycle by re-calling the plugout method. This is probably why @efectn disabled the log in 0a0eb46 , because it's so noisy and spams the logs. I don't …
