“Turing Smart Screen” is a low-cost 3.5-inch USB-C display that connects to systems with a USB port, and works with Windows, Linux (including Raspberry Pi), MacOS, and other operating systems that support Python3. But contrary to my initial assumptions, it does not exactly act as a second monitor, and instead, it is an information display, originally designed to show resource utilization, e.g. CPU and memory usage, in Windows, and controlled through commands send to the USB port. Turing Smart Screen specifications: 3.5-inch IPS display with 480×320 resolution, portrait and landscape support MCU – WCH CH552T 8-bit E8051 core MCU for USB devices Host interface – USB Type-C …

Description After some experimenting I found a way to flush the journal and maintain logs in tmpfs using /run/log/journal, and only have a softlink from /var/log/journal to /var/log.hdd/journal. Additionally the cached journals are to be cleaned up when /var/log becomes too full. Some logic was needed in cases where the user decides to do Storage=volatile journal logging in /etc/systemd/journald.conf, or when the user or journald with Storage=persistent creates a /var/log/journal folder which will be moved to /var/log.hdd/journal and replaced by the softlink. I didn't find any documentation, so wasn't able to update it. Jira reference number [AR-9999] How Has This Bee…

CNXSoft: This is another tutorial using SenseCAP K1100 sensor prototype kit translated from CNX Software Thai. This post shows how computer vision/AI vision can be combined with LoRaWAN using the Arduino-programmable Wio Terminal, a Grove camera module, and LoRa-E5 module connecting to a private LoRaWAN network using open-source tools such as Node-RED and InfluxDB. In the first part of SenseCAP K1100 review/tutorial we connected various sensors to the Wio Terminal board and transmitted the data wirelessly through the LoRa-E5 LoRaWAN module after setting the frequency band for Thailand (AS923). In the second part, we’ll connect the Grove Vision AI module part of the SenseC…

NewAE Technology’s ChipWhisperer-Husky is a compact tool designed for side-channel power analysis and fault injection with features such as a high-speed logic analyzer used to visualize glitches, real-time data streaming for attacking asymmetric algorithms, and support for JTAG/SWD programming. The security research company explains its device delivers a more stable and reliable experience compared to other off-the-shelf test gear such as oscilloscopes and function generators thanks to features such as synchronous sampling, which means the sample clock of your target device and the sample clock of ChipWhisperer-Husky can be perfectly aligned, or the ability to generate gl…

Description Rework of https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4807 as its not possible to push into the original branch to fix remaining problems and merge. Removed necessary config options: all u-boot configs are custom we avoid FAT boot if possible. This hardware boots from ext4 without problems. Changing to fat will not help in reliability. armbian wireless package have all firmware needed for this hw and for most popular USB dongles. If those wireless drivers firmware would be considered as a bloatware, we should also make very custom kernel and remove all things that are wasteful for this device. We could do that, but what we don't have is - time. build config has b…

Description The default power_allocator governor will not speed up the pwm fan when temp rises up, but step_wise will do according to cooling_level defined in the devicetree. Before this commit I have to set the governor manually by command echo step_wise > /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/policy on rock5b. Since there are many rk3588 boards have pwm-fan node defined in the devicetree, I think it's better to set this governot to default. How Has This Been Tested? Armbian's next release boots the FriendlyElec NanoPi M5 end-to-end from UFS on a mainline U-Boot, with no proprietary recovery image in the loop. It is the first RK3576 board in the catalogue to reach this state, and the integration pattern paves the way for the others. UFS, the storage class that replaced eMMC in phones, is packet-based and full-duplex with command queuing. The practical gain over an SD card shows up in random I/O, in latency under concurrent load, and in write endurance that holds up over years of deployment. FriendlyElec ships UFS on the M5 because the RK3576 has a native UFS controller, a sensible choice for any board destined for kiosks, robots, or i…

Espressif ESP-WIFI-CSI software relies on the disturbance in the force WiFi signals between one or more ESP32 boards and a router to detect whether humans are present in a room, or even indoor positioning, providing a cost-effective solution since no sensors are needed. Channel state information (CSI) leverages carrier signal strength, amplitude, phase, and signal delay indicators to reveal the signal scattering, reflection, and power attenuation phenomena that occur with the carrier as the transmission distance changes. This is typically used to measure the channel status of the wireless network in Wi-Fi communication, but it’s also possible to analyze and study the chan…

Description This change includes kernel patches to provide the following overlays when using armbian-config on the Orange Pi Zero 2 and Orange Pi Zero 3 boards. I2C IR USB OTG SPI UART These boards share very similar SOCs (RH616 / RH618), and the existing configuration that was also shared with the bigtreetech board did not function correctly for the Orange Pi Zero 2/3 boards, so the Zero 2/3 board overlay configuration was split out into its own files, and the board configurations updated to reference the new overlays. I was informed about the “CM4 IO Computer” based on the official Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 IO board housing in a metal enclosure along with the Raspberry Pi CM4 module. I initially thought it was new, but it’s been out at least since 2021. Nevertheless, it turns out there are at least two of this type of metal enclosures for the CM4 IO board, and when buying full systems, they may provide a way to source Raspberry Pi CM4 system-on-modules since individual modules are so hard to purchase if you are not a company with some minimum monthly production volume. As a development platform, the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 IO board is not optimized for cost or size, but there…

http://blog.armbian.com/content/images/2026/01/introducing-armbian-imager.pngWe all know that feeling. You have a new Single Board Computer (SBC) in your hands, ready to be transformed into a home server, a media center, or a testing lab. The excitement is high until you hit the first roadblock: installation. Which image is right for this exact model? Which kernel should I choose? Did I download the correct variant, or will I end up with a system that won't boot? For years, this process has been a "guessing game" involving web searches, manual downloads, and the constant fear of causing damage with the terminal. It is time to end this frustration.Today, we are proud to p…

Sparkfun has launched a Satellite Transceiver Kit based on the Swarm M138 satellite and GNSS modem that allows low-bitrate two-way connectivity for IoT projects anywhere on earth. Remote IoT applications have benefited from LPWAN standards such as LoRaWAN and NB-IoT, but in some extreme cases coverage may still be challenging, so satellite communication may be the only practical option. It used to be really expensive, but Swarm makes this more affordable, and companies like SigFox and Semtech also have (or had?) plans to use low-earth orbit satellites for their respective LPWAN technologies. Swarm M138 kit content and specifications: Swarm M138 mini PCIe satellite modem a…

Description All RTL drivers have interesting working mode: -DCONFIG_CONCURRENT_MODE With this mode we have two or three interfaces: wlan0, wlan1 and wlan2 This useful, when we need both STA and AP/P2P-GO on one wifi card. But wlan1 is not working in the 8189FS driver. We can create AP/P2P-GO on wlan1, and it is shown on any STA, but can't receive any RX packets. At the same time, wlan2 always works fine! That is mysterious! But after a few investigations, I found the reason: wlan0 and wlan1 have the same MAC! :) For example: wlan0 xx:xx:xx:xx:a5:8d wlan1 xx:xx:xx:xx:a5:8d wlan2 xx:xx:xx:xx:a1:8d Originally, MAC changes only for if2 and later interfaces. This looks lik…

Description I guess all these BOOTFS_TYPE come from https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/3874. Rock3a and other rk356x boards uses an old version of vendor u-boot: https://github.com/radxa/u-boot/tree/stable-4.19-rock3, which has bad support for ext4 filesystem. While rk3588 uses new version of vendor u-boot which doesn't have ext4 partition issue, so I just drop all this config from rk3588 boards. This week's work centers on board portfolio expansion, kernel and U-Boot version bumps, and CI and infrastructure hardening across the build and documentation pipelines. Board support saw notable growth with the introduction of the SpacemiT K3 Pico-ITX and Luckfox Nova (RK3308B), alongside a new generic uefi-arm64-dt family and board intended to standardize UEFI device-tree targets. Qualcomm enablement advanced through Radxa Dragon Q6A and Q8B work, including UFS provisioning for Kodiak, EDL-based UFS flashing in the imager, and audioreach topology firmware for sc8280xp. Catalog assets were extended for the MaaXBoard 8ULP, Mellow Fly C5, Xiaomi Sheng, and the new Radxa an…

When you download an Armbian image, flash it to your SD card or SSD, and boot your board, a huge amount of automation has already happened behind the scenes. That invisible engine is what you can see at https://actions.armbian.com. Think of it as the mission control center of Armbian’s infrastructure. It doesn’t look flashy, but it represents one of the most important parts of the project: the system that builds, tests, validates, and maintains Armbian for hundreds of boards, kernels, and configurations. Armbian isn’t just an operating system. It’s an automated production platform for embedded Linux. What is actions.armbian.com?actions.armbian.com is Armbian’s public autom…

Armbian 22.11 has just been released with three new SBCs, support for 64-bit RISC-V UEFI, a new ultra-minimal image optimized for software development, and various improvements. Armbian was born as a framework to build better OS images, usually Debian or Ubuntu, for Arm-based single board computers from Orange Pi, Hardkernel (ODROID), FriendlyElec, Banana Pi, and others, but now with the release of Armbian 22.11, support for the RISC-V architecture has started since the system can now generate 64-bit RISC-V UEFI images. Some other highlights of Armbian 22.11 include: Added support for Banana Pi BPI-M5 (Amlogic S905X3), ODROID-M1 (Rockchip RK3568), and Rock Pi 4C Plus (Roc…
