But on the other hand, for standard images, even when PLYMOUTH is set to no we leave plymouth installed in the final image. 9. The NVIDIA Jetpack 5.0.2 production release is out with Ubuntu 20.04, the Jetson Linux 35.1 BSP 1 with Linux Kernel 5.10, an UEFI-based bootloader, support for Jetson AGX Orin module and developer kit, as new as updated packages such as CUDA 11.4, TensorRT 8.4.1, cuDNN 8.4.1. NVIDIA Jetson modules and developer kits are nice little pieces of hardware for AI workloads, but the associated NVIDIA Jetpack SDK was based on the older Ubuntu 18.04 which was not suitable for some projects. But the good news is that Ubuntu 20.04 was being worked on and initially available through the Jetpack 5.0.0/5.0.1 developer previews, and NVIDIA Jetpack 5.0.2 SDK is the first production relea…

  14. Description The current kernel.sh build system uses the grab_version() function in utils-compilation.sh to determine the version string of the kernel and locate the build artifacts after make has completed. grab_version is a simple implementation that parses the makefile to guess the final kernel version, but if a userpatch has been applied to the kernel that includes a localversion-xx file (the PREEMPT_RT patch does this, for example), the returned value will be wrong (grab_version returns 5.10.110 when the true value used to name the vmlinuz image is 5.10.110-rt53-rockchip-rk3588) Thank you to @rpardini on Discord for helping me identify a fix for this issue. 18. This config simplifies the U-Boot build only scenario. If this switch is set, then KERNEL_ONLY is implied to "yes". The U-Boot only build also ensures proper host prepare and any other validation, the default build procedure performs. The motivation is to simplify UBOOT_ONLY building by just one compile parameter / switch, but keeping the default dependent compile procedures like e.g. host compare and other pre-config validations as is. This makes it also useful for CICD compile configurations. Changes lib/functions/main/config-prepare.sh: imply to set KERNEL_ONLY=yes, if UBOOT_ONLY is set "yes" lib/functions/main/default-build.sh: changed do_default(): added appr…

  21. Description This PR adds some configuration bits for a new CSC configuration for generic rk3318 tv boxes. rk3318 is the cheap and lost sibling of rk3328, no documentation is available and my opinion is a scrap product; nonetheless it has the same features and has been apparently sold only to tv box manufacturers. The provided device tree is generic enough to work with rk3328 tv boxes too. A set of patches that introduce several device tree overlays is provided, so users can enable the overlays at runtime as needed manually or with the help of a simple script (rk3318-config) that does some autodection. What is the purpose of this? The purpose of this CSC is to give to r…

  24. Description As per subject, bump rockchip 32 bit edge kernel to 6.9. Patches have been left as is because all of them applied fine, except for the device tree overlay compilation and installation. The device tree things have changed in 6.9 and the patch does not apply anymore. After some headeaches with the terrible makefiles, the second commit of this PR contains some hints on how I did the job and can serve as a icebreaker for other families perhaps. In particular: Some little accomodations in the overlay Makefile. the kernel makefile already supports dtbo files, but it wants the sources with .dtso extension, so all the device trees in overlay directory must be rena…

  25. Karl here and I will keep this short for you. First I will share my experience installing an upgrade module for the Lasermaster 2 Pro, the Ortur LU2-10A. The LM2Pro came with a 5.5w laser module and this upgrade brings the power up to approximately 10w optical power. Spoiler, I am not happy with the kit. The Ortur LU2-10A kit comes with a very simple adapter board that appears to do two tasks. 1 is to adapt wiring, and 2, inject additional power for the higher power laser module. It looks like the board will adapt to a lot of different connection types. I followed the instructions and the first time I plugged everything in the laser came on full power for about a second. …

  38. Armbian 22.11 has just been released with three new SBCs, support for 64-bit RISC-V UEFI, a new ultra-minimal image optimized for software development, and various improvements. Armbian was born as a framework to build better OS images, usually Debian or Ubuntu, for Arm-based single board computers from Orange Pi, Hardkernel (ODROID), FriendlyElec, Banana Pi, and others, but now with the release of Armbian 22.11, support for the RISC-V architecture has started since the system can now generate 64-bit RISC-V UEFI images. Some other highlights of Armbian 22.11 include: Added support for Banana Pi BPI-M5 (Amlogic S905X3), ODROID-M1 (Rockchip RK3568), and Rock Pi 4C Plus (Roc…

  39. This PR enables kernel modules for various USB Gadget applications for rockchip 32 bit platforms (rk322x, rk3288) for both current 6.6 and edge 6.7 kernels. Also provides a bunch of patches to address issues with rk322x, whose peripheral mode does not really well with dwc2 driver yet. A couple of patches are self-produced after trial-and-error sessions, another pair are imported from rockchip 5.10 kernel and substitutes an older patch with a bit more refined code (see the "debounce" patch). edit: the patches addressing the rk322x issues probably are worth also for rk3318 and rk3328, since the controller is the very same with similar issues. During my tests, I quickly ch…

  41. We wrote about the low-cost T8-Pro Celeron N5095 mini PC with three HDMI outputs and two Gigabit Ethernet ports last week, but if you’d prefer a model with 2.5GbE networking instead, the Partaker J6412 might be a better, albeit costlier option, with still three displays support (2xDP, 1xHDMI), and three 2.5GbE ports. As its name implies, the fanless mini PC/network appliance is powered by an Intel Celeron J6412 Elkhart Lake processor, coupled with up to 16GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD, and it features six USB ports, plus an RS232 COM port. Both will try to create SSH host keys by default: armbian-firstrun will always delete SSH host keys and then generate new ones cloud-init.target (by default) will always delete SSH host keys and then generate new ones. Problem When one must run armbian-firstrun and cloud-init, there is no deterministic ordering between the 2 files execution and therefore no one can guarantee which will be last to setup OpenSSH host keys. In my current scenario, host keys are explicitly setup in cloud-init and I would expect armbian-firstrun…

  79. Description Various minor fixes to rockchip rk3318/rk322x based tv boxes: usb ports gain resets in uboot and kernel, so hopefully they gains some more compatibility and/or less hangups rk3318-box now uses the ddrbin from vendor; it was accidentally switched to uboot TPL during last uboot update some patches have been removed because useless or because things could merged into board dtbs Except for a change in dwc2.c driver in rockchip 32 bit (that may have an effect on OTG port on ASUS Tinkerboard, which is usually unused due to being the power connector), no other boards are affected by these changes. It looks like that USB resets,at least on rk3318/rk3328, are good …

  80. Description This backports a commit from the Linux kernel into version 5.15 in order to enable the automatic control of the fan, based on the CPU temperature. Otherwise, the fan would run at maximum speed all the time (per default). How Has This Been Tested? I've built the kernel and installed the resulting .deb packages on my RockPro64 (running Bullseye). I monitored the CPU temperature and verified that the fan speeds up as soon as it hits the trip points defined in the device tree. 84. AAEON UP 4000 is a compact Apollo Lake single board computer that’s about the size of a business card or a Raspberry Pi designed for automation, robotics, digital signage, and other space-constrained applications that may benefit from an x86 processor. The company already published some Phoronix benchmarks comparing the UP 4000 SBC against Raspberry Pi 4, NVIDIA Jetson Nano, and the original UP board, but since nothing beats third-party evaluation, AAEON sent a review sample to CNX Software for additional testing. UP 4000 SBC unboxing There are several variants of the board, and I received the UP-APL03X7F-A10-0464 SKU with 4GB RAM, 64Gb eMMC flash, and an Intel Atom x7-E3…

  87. Qualcomm unveiled a new Wireless AR Smart Viewer Reference Design powered by the Snapdragon XR2 platform last week with very few details, but the company has now demonstrated the system to some members of the press, so let’s have a closer look. The reference design aims to provide a similar level of performance as a headset connected to PC or premium smartphone, but with some of the processing offloaded to the Snapdragon XR2 processor, thereby eliminating the need for a cord while still achieving lag-free experiences in combination with the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 solution. It is supposed to offer a 40% thinner profile and a more balanced weight…

This will prevent the kernel driver from issuing warnings "supply vcc-xx not found, using dummy regulator" for the dummy regulators added. Documentation summary for feature / change How Has This Been Tested? Initially the dts entries were manually added to a running system using the dts editor in armbian-config to verify that the changes produced the desired result. Then a kernel patch was created, put into a git repository and an image generated from that repository. After installing the image on an orangepione the dtb was examined via the dts editor of armbian-config to confirm the presence of the req…

  90. SBC Case Builder 2.0 tool to create enclosures for single board computers has been released with a customizer graphical user interface, additional cases & SBCs, support for variable height standoffs, and more. We wrote about the SBC Case Builder tool to easily generate various types of 3D printable enclosures using OpenSCAD earlier this year. 92. Mixtile Blade 3 is a Rockchip RK3588 SBC with up to 32GB RAM designed for server applications, notably to build clusters through a U.2 edge connector with 4-lane PCIe Gen3, SATA 3.0 to interconnect multiple boards. What was not clear so far is how multiple boards would be connected, as we were just shown two boards connected by a U.2 cable, which does not scale, and does not provide power as the 12V input also comes with the U.2 connector. The company has now provided more details showing how it’s done, namely through a breakout board that connects to the U.2 edge connector, and allows cluster design as shown below. The U.2 breakout board comes with a 6-pin connector 12V …

  95. Description As mentioned here: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6810#issuecomment-2194178735 Out of date blobs can be an issue if the vendor ships boards with new blobs, as recently seen for FriendlyElec with the NanoPC T6 for example. The release docs do not mention any incompatibilities between versions for rk3528 and rk3568: https://github.com/armbian/rkbin/blob/master/patch-notes/RK3528_EN.md https://github.com/armbian/rkbin/blob/master/patch-notes/RK3568_EN.md For rk3566, only one warning is listed for rk3566_ddr_1056MHz_ultra_v1.19.bin but we're not using the ultra blob (what's the difference?): https://github.com/armbian/rkbin/blob/master/patch-notes/RK3566…
