by popular demand: bring back KERNEL_CONFIGURE=yes during image build It seems I was once again terribly wrong. People love KERNEL_CONFIGURE=yes and specially the ability to select in dialog, and specially the one-step config+build all at once. Sorry for inconvenience caused... partially revert 6ef394d95de6a113099caf3d31b668c04dda3862 (thus bring back the TUI/dialog for selecting KERNEL_CONFIGURE=yes/no) partially revert d890b418c7107af183b5f1f2a9304923537766c4 (thus bring back the capacity to config & build image in one go) stop after configuring kernel, but only if command is kernel-config, not regular image-build KERNEL_CONFIGURE=yes View the full article

Description There is a drawback to configuring audio routing using asound.state. Although you can specify the device of the axg-sound card via commands to output sound to either HDMI or the internal speaker, in a desktop environment, there is only one analog output (defaulting to HDMI). This is because the device actually has only one sound card. By using ALSA UCM to manage sound instances and audio routing, you can freely choose between HDMI or the built-in speaker output in a desktop environment. This is because PipeWire/WirePlumber will parse ALSA UCM and create sinks. How Has This Been Tested? build image boot form usb drive test sound in CLI and DE Checklist: …

Description After today's complete stall of primary Ubuntu infrastructure I switched to mirrors in order to rebuild caches. First problem is that often mirrors for amd64 and others are placed on different locations. This part is covered but it fails for riscv64 architecture. In order to cover that too, its better to have more generic variable CUSTOM_UBUNTU_MIRROR_PORTS and have everything that is not amd64 there. By quick research - if mirror hosts arm64 it also hosts risv64 and vice versa. Second problem - if caches are re-generated with 3rd party mirrors, release lists remain with those values. How to approach to that problem? We want that - at least our builds - are a…

cli-patch: generalize to-git functionality with PUSH_TO_GITHUB and PUSH_TO_REPO & enable for u-boot as well as kernel cli-patch: generalize to-git functionality with PUSH_TO_GITHUB and PUSH_TO_REPO & enable for u-boot as well as kernel PUSH_TO_REPO=<url>: set the full git URL to push to PUSH_TO_GITHUB=<org>/<repo>: shorthand for pushing to GitHub; sets PUSH_TO_REPO note: be kind to GitHub, and use forks of torvalds/linux and u-boot/u-boot so GH has a decent base tree still, kernel pushes are huge, mostly due to the all-wifi-drivers commit that's always first and always slightly different note: when pushing to GitHub, keep in mind the pushed …

Description This is a follow-up on this PR https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6376 and this comment https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6376#issuecomment-1987147291 It's more of an idea, since I tried rewrite-uboot-patches and noticed the following: Board NanoPi-R6S has 5 U-Boot patches in total (legacy/u-boot-raxda-rk3588). Using ./compile.sh BOARD=nanopi-r6s BRANCH=edge rewrite-uboot-patches has the following patch summary: Summary: u-boot patching: 5 total patches; 5 applied; 2 with problems; 2 needs_rebase However, instead of only rewriting/rebasing the 2 patches, it modifies all 5 patches slightly (see example below). This means your git working tree quickly ge…

Description This is a resubmission of https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6482 which was reverted in https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/6524 due to build errors. I don't know what exactly failed last time and my build tests this time run successfully just fine on Ubuntu 24.04. Maybe the error is specific to certain configurations and will return, so please don't merge until CI has done some tests and a build was successful. I have slightly improved this latest version by moving the function call to validate_dts in kernel.sh slightly further down after kernel_config ran since make expects a .config file. cli: introduce rewrite-uboot-patches cli command, works similar to the kernel one cli: introduce rewrite-uboot-patches cli command, works similar to the kernel one it prepares git, applies patches to git, and re-writes them back from git same as kernel, it does git archeology for mbox-less patches, etc uboot-patches-to-git alias is also added, but my guess is rewrite is more useful refactor a common config function for both kernel and uboot example invocation: ./compile.sh BOARD=xxxx BRANCH=edge rewrite-uboot-patches View the full article
