Howdy, I set up a new OrangePi Zero with the Legacy 3.4.113 Ubuntu Xenial. I was able to get wifi working however when I try to do a sudo-apt get update or upgrade it freezes and crashes. I am using a 32gb Samsung Evo. Cpu temp is hovering around 57 C with no load. Any tips besides reinstalling the image?

I was configuring onboard wifi of OPI ZERO, rev. 1.1 with the provided tool armbian-config. On one board it went just OK, on the second it froze, so I manualy powercycled the board. After that the board does not boot. I connected the serial console and here is the output I got: U-Boot SPL 2017.09-armbian (Nov 20 2017 - 02:53:16) DRAM: This is my first time troubling with u-boot, so I have no idea what this means, but it should give me more output. I will try to look, if there is 1.5V at the 1_5V pad.

Hello, I am looking for a dimensional (mechanical) drawing of the OPi Zero. I have found the dwg files at the orangepi website (see attached rar archive) but I am running into issues figuring out what the exact locations are of the holes & headers. Does anyone have a drawing like that? Or maybe an AutoCad wizard can help me with this using the original files.. Thanks! ORANGE_PI-Zero-V1_1_PCB-DWG.rar

Hello guys, I am experiencing such a problem: When I boot my orangepi it starts and it is visible in the router's page view getting IP with dhcp. As soon as I connect over ssh (at least this is the way to trigger it, not sure if it is hapening automatically after a while), the device disappears from the network and it is no more available! I have seen this behaviour happening on 2 different routers. Then I rebooted the device again and in the router config I put the same IP statically linked to the device and I tried to connect over ssh and it worked without disappearing anymore. So it sounds like a bug somewhere using dhcp protocol. Is som…

Hello. I'v recently tried to update by old orange pi zero to latest armbian and it does not boot. Serial console is dead silent. I'v tried different armbian releases, sdcards, but result is the same. However card with old boots perfectly fine. Image orangepizerolts also works, but it has huge overheating problem. I'v tried to flash uboot to spi, but it does not boot either. Sadly old uboot did not worked with latest armbian. Any idea?

Hi everyone, Very green here. Basically I setup 1 of my orange pi a few months back with "Armbian_23.02.3_Orangepizero2_jammy_legacy_4.9.318". I recently bought another pi and wanted to set it up with a newer version. I see bookworm is now the latest. I have tried both CLI and Minimal but whenever I flash those into my micro SD the orange pi never boots up. My router doesnt see the connection, so it cant hand off an IP. I thought maybe it was a bad mini SD or a bad pi. But when I flashed the old jammy image into the same SD, the pi immediately picked up the connection, my router gave it an IP and I was able to log in as a root to the pi. I re…

Hi everyone, I have a problem when work on OPi zero wifi which is running Armbian linux sunxi 4.19.62. I used nmtui to configure wifi connection with static ip. It works fine even rebooting or re-powering up however I tried to power off the router and the result is it has never reconnected again. Next, I plugged in the ethernet cable into RJ45 port, the connection is established. I use sudo ifconfig to show the information, I saw that both the wifi (static) and ethernet are correctly then I can access via ssh or scanning the ip. One again, I continued plugging out the ethernet cable, all connections were disappeared even wifi and connection via ssh is failed. …

Hello, I'm using Armbian Xenial with ethernet on my local network. SSH and PostgreSQL seem to disconnect a lot. This is really frustrating with sshfs when I try to work with files on the Orange Pi Zero as a file server.. I tried setting a keepalive every second and that doesn't help either. I don't see anything in the logs that hints to anything. I have not attempted to use wifi. I did just notice the timezone was wrong, so I'll see tomorrow if that has something to do with it.

In the spec., it was stated that the ethernet in OPi zero is off by default. If I use its Debian server distribution, will it turn on automatically? If not, what do I need to do to turn it on? Thanks.

Hi all, first i want to thank all of you for this great software. Problem: No ethernet on mainline 4.11 kernel. I tracked the problem down to a 'ethernet status = "disabled"' in the dtb for the orange pi zero. How to fix it? I have only very little experience with Device tree. 4.11 is ok for the other OPs, i tested the OP One. Kind regards svollmar

I am trying to use fbtft on the Orange Pi Zero, seems broken. Looks like an issue with the SPI driver itself. My skills are not enough to debug this. I am doing something like this: modprobe fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9340 gpios=dc:3,reset:0 speed=32000000 busnum=1 rotate=90 The LCD functions but stops updating after a couple of mins. Linux is still running but dmesg shows a crash. I need to make a graphic library based program. I am going to draw some vertex data and update them according to received data on serial port. I don't have any idea where to start. I used C# and XNA in the past. I know something about game programming. ( Please note, I did not make a game, I made a program which draws some information visually on screen with XNA framework) Could you please suggest me, Where should I start? I have two board. I…

Hi, im trying to get Armbian for Orange Pi Zero (512). I only have ethernet with a router to SSH. No serial to USB. - If I try the stable Ubuntu version It powers on with solid Green LED. - ~1min later Red LED starts blinking (pulse-pulse-stop) in a cycle and nothing happens. There is no discovered device on local net. So i cannot SSH. - If I try debian stable release device is shown on net as orangepi.home. or something like that but if I try ti SSH -> timeout error. Ping doesn't work at all. I have tried other distros like Pulpstone and OpenWRT which work loke a charm but not Debian based. I tried redownload…

Hi, Over the last couple of weeks, I have been trying to get Pi-hole working (and more importantly, stable) on the Orange Pi (along with the relevant Orange Pi zero H2+ ARMbian OS) without success. I realize that I am using "Tested" but as yet not marked "Stable" code, however I'm hoping this can help somebody here perhaps in terms of developing a stable OS for these little boards. I have rebuilt the SD card from scratch several time now. The SD card is of reputable make (Sandisk) and in fact I have tried two different cards, just in case this was a card issue. I'm using a reliable power supply, which I have verified by continuously monitoring it with my …

I installed the pyA20 library for controlling GPIO, but I can't get the internal pullup resistor to work anymore. I managed to get it working before, but after playing around with other things, it stopped working. I have a very simple circuit going on, with just a light switch and I'm trying to read the light switch using the internal pull-up resistor. I managed to get it working for a few days, but that's it. I gave up and decided to solder on my own 10K pull-up resistor from the input pin to 3.3V. To my surprise, the results were the same, the input pin floated. Everything works fine with an Arduino. This is all very strange and I hope someone can help me. I'm runn…

Hey there. I used to run an Octoprint server on my Orange Pi Zero H2+ installed over armbian, which got swapped with a raspberry pi for unimportant reasons. I wanted to switch back, but for all of the armbian builds listed here for Orange Pi Zero, I am just getting a green light on the board and some blinking of the orange indicator only from the Ethernet Jack. Is this expected? This is happening with multiple SD-cards an two Orange Pi Zeros. All of the OS images from http://www.orangepi.org/ seem to work just fine, as well as an old "debian_server_for_orangepizero_v0_9_2.img" I found, so I'm going that route for now. But I can't image this is expecte…

Hi, Firstly my thanks to the team for an outstanding job on ARMbian. I'm relatively new to this particular flavour, using it on my Orange Pi H2+ board with a few different builds under my belt now. Recently I have been having some troubles getting Pi-hole to work on the little Orange Pi board. Twice I have had it up and running perfectly, with full DNS and DHCP control of my home network, accommodating about 10 devices. However after about 6 - 12 hours of operation, they ceased to function. First time around I was not home to witness it, but when I returned later, the Allwinner chip was running pretty warm (around 60 degrees C core temp) and non-responsive, even to s…

I did manage to use the rmbian_5.27_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Debian_jessie_dev_4.11.0.img.xz image and things boot fine. I also get pretty console on hdmi. But no network, and I don't have a way to get the keyboard on. Any suggestions on what kind of an adapter I need to get power AND usb keyboard to the thing (since there are no extra ports on it)? Or is it serial? Good recommendation on proper 'converter". I did modify the initial armbian_first_boot to enable wifi with proper ssid / password, and even enabled static, but no dice. Thomas

Hi, I have an Orange Pi Zero (256MB) board. I downloaded the prebuilt image named as "Armbian_5.25_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img" and used it without a problem. Then I cloned the project from github and cross compiled on an Ubuntu 16.04 computer (4.4.0-31-generic kernel) by using the "compile.sh" script. It created an image named as "Armbian_5.27_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img". But this image halts after printing "ion_reserve_common: ion reserve: [0x47e00000, 0x50000000]!". You may find the log at the end of this post. I compiled the same project (5.27) with development kernel. It created the image name…

I know this is a well known topic but since I didn't find an issue like the one I'm having I felt the need of explaining it. I recently bought an Orange Pi Zero board + extension board with AV, micro and 2 additional USB + case. During the 3 days I've been testing it I've been having a lot of issues related maybe to the heat (or maybe not). I have built a streaming media server called Mopidy, which is pretty cool but at certain times it completely hangs when I'm reproducing audio (by the way, I'm using only stable Debian / Ubuntu because kernel 4.11 isn't detecting the soundcard for some reason). It sometimes takes 1 hour to get stuck, …

Hey everybody. I'm quite new to allwinner, my first experience was with the A13 (sun4i) from olimex. I wrote a kernel driver for the sunxi kernel, which uses the spi and some GPIO. I know that the on-board wifi module is not the best but it seems that its unusable. Anyone has any relative problem? Is there any solution or its just hardware based and I need an external wifi dongle?

Hi, I bought a 3.5 inch RPi LCD display from here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32965280840.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.2a474c4dxALiQy I connected the display straight to my Orange Pi zero board. The slot on the Orange Pi Zero is flipped compared to RPi so the LCD display goes outside the board. I guess that is the right way to connect. Anyway, when I power on the board I can see illuminated screen. The problem is that everything I have tried to configure the LCD was unsuccessful. Hello, I'm trying to install Armbian to my Orange Pi Zero. I tried stable (5.30), dev (5.30 and old (5.24 from January 2017) versions of Debian and stable version (5.30) of Ubuntu. Its running a 32G sandisk Ultra (class 10) with a verified image using Etcher. The CPU is running at around 59c. It's unusable because the OPi keeps losing connectivity. Usually about every 12-24 hours but more frequently at times (sometimes two or three times an hour). So no ping, no ssh, no telnet. Ive implemented some scripts on the OPi to try and track down what's happening. But the first thing I notice is syslog gets cleared and/or has large gaps in it. …

Hello. I have a problem with Orange Pi Zero LTS. I also have an expansion board and the required 3.5-jack cable. I have read many different forums and sites where people have described problems with video signal output. Often there are solutions such as: 1. Editing the file /boot/script.bin But this file does not exist. 2. They also talk about the launch of "tv". You need to add an entry to /etc/modules. But that doesn't work either, since ./tvout doesn't exist. As I understand it, in new versions there is no TV support, but there is no way to download old versions either. The latest version that can be downloaded is 5.59,…

Hello does someone have the working configuration enabling the onewire master bus on the mainline version ? I have tried to gather the information from several posts adding the missing configuration on the devicetree but as there is no real step by step guide and the kernel wiki entry makes no sense for the zero`s pins. Overlay or straight settings into the boot configuration.

I just did an apt-get update on the mainline version of armbian and now the machine won't boot. I'l looking at the uboot output and it appears not to load the full kernel in and boot it. Hi. Kernel version : 4.11.7-sun8i My trouble is that clk is weird in using spidev. This is a oscilograph when i send a command with spi. First line is CLK and second line is CS0. My slave chip can not receive commands. and I think it due to this weird CLK. CS seems affect CLK. I just want to use spi with CS keeping active-low. But, following code setting mode of spi occured an error. Hello, I've recently purchased an Orange Pi Zero and have Armbian 5.25 (Linux version 3.4.113-sun8i). My problem is that the network fails after some time (sometimes couple of minutes but half an hour at most). I'm not able to ping it at all. I've checked the logs in /var/log and can't find what is wrong, at least to my knowledge. Here is the boot log http://sprunge.us/gRjf, so if anyone has any idea please share. Other logs are uploaded as well orange_pi_zero_logs.7z

Hi, first of all thanks a lot for every contributor, this is a great project, I'm an absolute fan! I'm running Armbian on an orange pi 2, everything works fine for a while. I'm running a homegrown python script with flask, this one works too. But after ~1-x hours, I can't connect anymore to my web service. This could be my problem, but in fact, neither SSH works. So I found these things, my script tells me this: ---------------------------------------- Exception happened during processing of request from ('192.168.0.158', 59734) Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/SocketServer.py", line 290, in …

Hello, today I try to recompile armbian and produce some image which can be fited into nor flash. I would like to fit uboot, dtb and kernel into Winbond W25Q128FVSSIG and rootfs into sdcard. So I found some instruction in which I need to modify first kernel and dts (ref. http://linux-sunxi.org/Xunlong_Orange_Pi_Zerochapter SPI NOR flash). For Armbian it is quit difficult, when I issue ./compile.sh than everything regarding to Uboot is cleared. First what I need to do is modify sun8i-h3-orangepi-one.dts with following content &spi0 { status = "okay"; flash: m25p80@0 { #address-cells = <1>; #size-cells = <1>; …

Apologies if this is documented/reported somewhere else, but I can't see anything on a quick forum search. I received two Orange Pi Zeros this morning, and eagerly downloaded the Orange Pi Zero flavour of Armbian (Xenial Legacy) and loaded it up on a good 8GB microSD. I then started using it, updating it, and suddenly realised that it only had a 1.4GB partition when it failed to finish updating due to insufficient space. I thought since I'd had some issues logging into it that I might have interrupted the first boot resize, so I re-imaged it, and loaded it up, left if five minutes, and then logged. No cigar... says it is still 1.4GB (1.4GB size, 1.2GB used, 2…

Hi I would like to communicate whith an arduino(as receiver) with RF 433. On a first thought I wanted to use rc-switch lib, do you know if there is a way to use it with the PI zero(transmitter) once I have installed the wiring pi zero? if not what would be my best choice as library for OPIZ (and arduino as receiver)? As MCU are better choices to drive hardware part, would it be a good idea to interface OPIZ with a ATMEGA328 as a SPI slave which one would drive the 433 RF emitter with the rc-switch lib above? This would be the overkill situation as I'm new to SPI (and OPIZ). thx

Hello guys, soon I will receive this nice toy (512MB) and I want to be prepared for my project: a domestic vpn server (using pptp) serving 1 o 2 guests at most. For this project I just need the RJ45 socket thus I would like to switch off as much as possible (e.g. GPU, on board wifi and others if there). Someone can point me to some resources or list what I can do to accomplish this? P.S. I know that pptp is not as secure as IPSec (and maybe IPSec is heavier for such device) but for the purpose of my project it is enough. Thanks a lot Gianni

PA10 il also used by SPI ( pin 1) . SPI is not enable on /boot/ArmbianEnv.txt. this script works perfectly on 3.x kernel but crashed GPIO 10 and GPIO 7 on 4.x kernel , when PA10 configured in "INPUT" and receive a +3.3V it crashed and seems to stay up indefinitively nothink on logs , PA7 can't become up in OUT mode i think there is a problem with SPI and GPIO on 4.X kernel I can't change GPIO pin on my pr…

When I try to read the input on PA19 immediately goes to "1" even though there is no voltage being sent to the pin. Example: #!/usr/local/bin/python from pyA20.gpio import gpio from pyA20.gpio import port pin_to_circuit = port.PA19 gpio.init() gpio.setcfg(pin_to_circuit, gpio.OUTPUT) gpio.output(pin_to_circuit, 0) gpio.setcfg(pin_to_circuit, gpio.INPUT) print(gpio.input(pin_to_circuit)) I don't understand why this would put "1" with nothing even connected to the PA19 pin? Are there some settings I need to change to get PA19 working as a normal GPIO pin?

Hello. When my orange pi zero is booted, Pin16,18(PA19,PA18) seems to record high value(3.3v) I want the pins to stay low. In the dtb file, PA18 and PA19 are assigned to i2c1 and i2s0. But in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file those overlays are not enabled. Can someone please help me how to keep ping 16 and 18 low at t he boot time? I'm trying, with no success, to make a 3,5 inch tft lcd screen function with an orange pi zero plus (h5) via SPI. I will love if someone could help me diagnose the reason why I'm failing in doing so. I also have a working serial connection (using the UART pins located next to Ethernet jack on the board) and am using the 'screen' program to communicate with the device. I just received 3 of the Zero Plus boards and am trying to verify they at least basically work. I'm new to Armbian & Orange Pi but have been using Raspbian & Raspberry Pi's for years. I've downloaded Armbian for the OP Zero (Armbian_5.38_Orangepizero_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.14.img), verified the gpg signature and the sha256 checksum and used Etcher v. 1.4.4 on a 2017 iMac, macOS Sierra, to burn SD cards. After burning, macOS claims "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Maybe that's normal for Armbian? diskutil list shows: /dev/disk8 (external, physical): #: TYPE NAME SIZE …

I had a rather crazy idea (in my opinion) of trying to hook up a bluray drive to an Orange Pi Zero Plus that i have a spare of, then possibly set that up as an iscsi target with LiO to create a network attached BD drive. However, I'm already stuck even getting the BD drive to work with the OPi in the first place. I have the optical drive hooked to an externally powered USB 2.0 to ATA bridge (has a SATA port on it as well, this hardware config was tested in windows and worked great) and that's plugged into the single USB port on the board. The problem i seem to be having (not entirely sure I'm correct, very new at this) is that sr_mod is not enabled or present. T…

It seems that the latest Nano Pi Neo Air Boards and the relatively new Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 both use a modified version of the AP6212 WiFi+Bluetooth module, which is physically labelled as AP6212A. This new module apparently requires different drivers to operate. From my own experience, I was unable to get the internal WiFi module to work on a Nano Pi Neo Air (with AP6212A) using any of the Armbian distributions. However, I was able to get WiFi to work on that board with the Friendly Arm distribution at from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/sr5d0qpz774cs/NanoPi-NEO_Air#oc15bwqbuxgxe. A couple of weeks ago I took delivery of an Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 H3 it has the form factor I wanted, eMMC support and HDMI which implied I could run a desktop; the H3 was also the variant that seemed to have the best support. Since then I have been trying to get a stable usable desktop environment working. I tried the latest version of Armbian legacy server specifically for this board and that works fine as far as the server version goes so then I tried to add a basic desktop but that didn't work the xOrg driver said there were no screens present and everything I tried after going to Google University failed. Hi, I am new to Orange Pi, Armbian and this forum. Done lots of Raspberry Pi and other Linux stuff. Can someone tell me if the Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 H3 & H5 boards are supported by armbian? They are available on Aliexpress here(H3) and here(H5). They are not listed on the download page, but are listed in this post. Also, if they are supported, is it better choosing the H3 or H5 variant? Seems to me like the H3 might have better software support, and might be the better choice.

I configured my opi to work as a composite usb gadget (mouse and rndis). Everything works, but the actual refresh rate of the mouse was 250 Hz. I tried to configure bInterval, which is responsible for the device update frequency, this could only be done by rebuilding the kernel with bInterval changes in the high-speed descriptor structures from 4 to 1 in the file drivers/usb/gadget/function/f_hid.c. It had an effect. But the frequency only rose to 500 Hz. I tried to find what could limit this, I looked in drivers/usb/dwc2/gadget.c and also in composite.c but I couldn’t find anything. Greetings, can the NAS HAT for the Zero work on the Zero Plus2 H5? I have the Zero HAT, which connects to the Plus2 board, but when I connect a usb keyboard, it does not power it. Although a usb mouse lights up. I can't test the mouse fully because I'm using ubuntu server on the Plus2 which has no GUI. So again, is the problem that the Plus NAS HAT does not work on the Plus2? I see that there is a NAS HAT for the Plus2 with the same connectors that the Plus HAT has but it's smaller. Thanks in advance iomari
