Hi guys, Since I'm out of GPIOs I would like to reuse the Debug UART0 RX/TX in "release" if no serial module is attached. I'm using a nanopi Duo2 but that question applies to the general strategy. The NanoPi UART0 RX can be used as PA5, PWM output. I did already play successfully with overlay files for other purposes so I know a little how that works. Can I create a overlay with shared usage, and depending on the loaded module (tty*) the RS232 is operating, or when this is stopped i can use the PWM out? Is this "Shared overlay" in general the right approach? If yes could someone point me to some hints ho…

Hi, I'm working with an armbian installed on a Banana Pi M2S and I'm having problems using GPIOX_12, GPIOX_13 and GPIOX_4, because the Wifi/Bluetooth drivers are introducing garbage data by default into them and making it difficult to use them for communication in my project. I need to know how to disable these drivers from the kernel so that they don't interfere with the UART communication that I'm creating on those pins, since they are enabled by default and take control of the port automatically (even without having any module connected). Question: Is there any way to disable them in the kernel during the image building process? Fo…

Hi, Please have a look at the list of supported devices by a patching framework https://github.com/seemoo-lab/nexmon Mostly bcm43430a1 devices, I believe patch should also be suitable for AP6212 WiFi chip, as it's patches only or mostly mac driver ? (Not an expert here). Patches apply smoothly on RPi3. Would be really nice to have this functional on Friendly ARM NanoPi Neo Air.

It's been decades since I did application development but I want to get started again. I see that Ubuntu IDE SDK is included in the 'software boutique' but when I install it there are numerous errors when trying to configure. Do you guys have a preferred IDE for application dev on Armbian and do you have any tutorial how to build it? The Ubuntu IDE SDK looks good but so do several other IDEs that include GUI designers such as QDevelop. Before I go down a long path I'd rather try what you kids are already successfully using. I know, most guys use Vi(m) and command line, but I want to give the IDE style of development a go. This is a ver…

Just thought you developers might enjoy this... It uses a CRAZY cheap module, becomes a serial to wifi bridge, outputs on the module can then be connected to a standard serial tx/rx, 5v/gnd, and not only does it have a webgui, but also a web console https://github.com/jeelabs/esp-link The esp-link firmware connects a micro-controller to the internet using an ESP8266 Wifi module. It implements a number of features: transparent bridge between Wifi and serial, useful for debugging or inputting into a uC flash-programming attached Arduino/AVR microcontrollers and LPC800-series and other ARM microcontrollers via Wifi built-in stk500v1 p…

Hi, I have downloaded `Armbian_20.05.2_Pine64so_buster_current_5.4.43.img` I have a script that mount the iso, chroot into it and run a big script to generate a flavoured version of armbian. A bit of software that might be interesting to those that wish to use the IO's of Pi type boards https://github.com/Nikolay-Kha/PyCNC Typically there is no way to control stepper motors from Linux runtime environment due to the lack of real time GPIO control. Even kernel based modules can not guarantee precise control of pulses for steppers. However, we can use a separate hardware module, DMA (Direct Memory Access) which provides high precision for GPIO outputs. This module can copy bytes which represent GPIO states from RAM buffer directly to GPIO with some clock based on main chip internal oscillator without using CPU's cores. Using such approach…

Hello, im trying to map the i2c-2 to some GPIO ports and have to rewrite the device-tree on armbian 22.04. I'm failing miserably and have no idea how-to do it. I managed to compile the i2c-gpio.ko kernel module as it is not part of the armbian 5.15.89-sunxi kernel. However, here i'm stuck and cant manage to make it happen. On RPi it was simple adding an overlay to config.txt: dtoverlay=i2c-gpio,bus=2,i2c_gpio_sda=27,i2c_gpio_scl=17 /boot/overlays/i2c-gpio.dtbo I'm trying to replicate that for Armbian, here is my dts file: // Overlay for i2c_gpio bitbanging host bus. /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatibl…

Could someone point me to a guide / how to / existing build script to create a bootloader image for the Radxa Rock-3a? Context... I'm trying to get a Radxa Rock3c to boot with a modern (6x) Linux kernel. This has the Rockchip rx3566 unlike the Radxa Rock3a which has the rx3568 (supported by Armbian). This is my first time working with u-boot, so I'm trying to follow Rockchip's own guide (here). Sadly that guide seems to be a rather cryptic, poorly translated, and file names don't appear to mach anything I can find. Radxa's own binaries (here) don't seem to know about the rk3566 or rk3568: I get errors when I use mkimage. But other distributio…

The network connection is confirmed to be normal. I can successfully download the kernel source using git clone, with a download speed of around 3–5 MB/s. However, during the Armbian build process, the kernel source fetching stage always fails. I have tried both full git mode and shallow clone mode, but neither can complete successfully. Is there any recommended solution for this issue? Is it possible to configure Armbian to reuse an existing local kernel source tree or adjust the kernel git download process? Thanks.

Hello Everyone, I would like to share my experience about how to boot Orange Pi almost silently in console mode (eliminate a lot of kernel messages on startup) without desktop and remove cursor blinking that can cause black rectangle appearing over white background, when painting to framebuffer. Many options that proposed as being able to reduce kernel messages on boot didn't work for me. So based on Armbian documentation I started to experience with armbianEnv.txt file in the /boot folder. The extraargs setting was not part of the default armbianEnv.txt file, but appeared in BOOT.CMD file. The setting extraargs=vt.global_cursor_default=0 quiet sol…

Hi, Just yesterday I had to reinstall my server (odroid-xu4 based). I've been using Armbian a few years now. But this time, no matter if just after a fresh install or after firmware and packages update/upgrade, it fails to reboot I no long have the release number of the previous install I've used, but tryied this time with 22.11.1 and 23.01.1 and both fail the same way After a few debuging it turned out to be that the /etc/fstab entry for the microSD starts just with the UUID code, but adding the "UUID=" string to the line begin, solves the issue Don't know when the bug began or where to properly report the bug, so I started this thread, but I'll be gl…

Happy new year everyone, I am working on a project where I want to control two brushed DC motors equipped with a magnetic encoder and driven by a H-bridge circuit. All this has to be done on a tiny arm board (with enough cpu power for other computations), and I decided to go for the NanoPi NEO Air. I compiled the actual mainline Kernel with realtime capability (turned PREEEMTIVE on in menuconfig, hope that's enough) and debian streched. One issue might be the tight and constraining timing when sampling the magnetic encoder, which generates two 1.6kHz (about 0.6ms) pulses for each motor. I guess it would be best to get an interrupt generated at each…

I do not impose, this is only a proposal for discussion. What would users have a single point of entry into the build system (the main armbian GIT/build), I propose to add into the main master branch additional variable that will be used in the script "compile.sh" to specify what branch to use when building. This will allow to quickly combine the main branch to build images Armbian with my fork for assembling the images for TV boxes and boards based on the Amlogic platform. Under the add , my changes do not conflict with the existing system in the main branch and at the same time, users will be able to collect their own versions based on the amlogic branch of a single GIT…

Hello, I am trying to create custom USB gadget using GadgetFS on OrangePi PC. I found some example of USB user-mode driver based on GadgetFS and was able to adapt it for sunxi H3 platform. If I only change the VID and PID in this example, the device is still detected correctly in Windows (my part gets initial requests), but no data buffer is received after the detection. I see the data is sent from my PC module (using WireShark). I think the data is either locked or handled in unexpected way by sunxi_usb_udc module. How can I get detailed debug messages (using dmesg) of the sunxi module? I hope this will let me re-design my solution.

On Orange Pi One, Lite and NanoPi M1 we currently have the ability to let VDD_CPUX voltage switch between 1.1V and 1.3V. With our current settings we switch at 912MHz CPU clockspeed from 1.1V to 1.3V. The higher the clockspeed the higher VDD_CPUX (this is the voltage the CPU cores are fed with) has to be to let the SoC work reliable. But on the other hand the higher VDD_CPUX is set the hotter the SoC gets and the earlier throttling will jump in. So knowing at which clockspeed H3 still works reliable at the lowest possible VDD_CPUX voltage (in the case of the aforementioned boards only 1.1V or 1.3V are available) can help with overall performance since throttling gets m…

Hi every devs ! (some of you know that I was on other duties those past months, mainly constructing my new house and moving in it, but I'm now back to Armbian builds those recent days after more then 6 busy months) I've noticed yesterday that USB1-DRVVBUS/PD7 was not activated any more in my recent build, although the fix-many-orangepiwin-dts.patch should take care of that and this one is successfully applied. After digging the issue, I've found out that the sunxi64-hdmi-thermal-dma-pmw-enable.patch is reverting many of those, probably unintentionally, and since this patch is applied after the first one, things are revert silently. …

Hey, I compiled and installed the latest kernel (4.7.3 and uboot 2016-09) but something went wrong. I have been playing around the Rock Pi S from radxa, and am stumbling at enabling the I2S output using a device tree overlay. (Building using current Armbain that uses @piter75's kernel branch) As per the data sheet and pinout, `i2s_8ch_0` should be broken out to the GPIO, but I don't seem to be getting far enabling it via the device tree. Any inputs? This is what I am playing around with atm, but `dmesg` doesn't show anything helpful atm, and no "I2S-Card" device turns up. Tried disabling the inbuilt audio codec ( connected to `i2s_8ch_2`), but still no dice. The closest example I could find was from `rk3308-ai-va-v10.dts`, that similarly enables the `i2s_8…
