The Raspberry Pi Pico W board was launched with a WiFi 4 and Bluetooth 5.2 LE module based on the Infineon CYW43439 wireless chip in June 2022, and I wrote a tutorial showing how to connect to WiFi a few days after the launch, but nothing about Bluetooth LE. That’s because while the Raspberry Pi Pico W hardware supports Bluetooth LE, we were told that Bluetooth was not enabled at the time, but might be at a later stage. The good news comes from Alasdair Allan, who is responsible for the Raspberry Pi documentation, saying Bluetooth LE support is scheduled for the upcoming 1.5.0 release of the Pico C SDK. There’s currently an open ticket on GitHub for Bluetooth support adde…

Description stmmac ethernet driver is in use on all rockchip SoCs; its statistics system has been revised on kernel 6.6, but something is not working correctly right now on 32 bit platforms and a lock contemption happens very often when an userland process tries to read the statistics of the ethernet device. One of the most common victim is vnstat daemon, which often gets stuck hogging a cpu core and skyrocketing the average load. This also makes the whole kernel angry, RCU complains, processes hang, and so on... The patch provides a horrible workaround (remove the mutual exclusion in the reader) to fix the problem temporarely. This may break ethernet statistics that ca…

Description This exposes the ITC content type provided by hdmi spec to v4l2. This allows user space applications to query the driver using V4L2_CID_DV_RX_IT_CONTENT_TYPE. This way user applications can see not only if a hdmi is plugged in or not, but also what type of video is being transmitted. For my use case specifically, I just want to know if the recieved type is no type (V4L2_DV_IT_CONTENT_TYPE_NO_ITC) or literally anything else. This would let me detect when my main computer's goes to sleep with the hdmi out from the main computer plugged into the OP5+ HDMI in. Without this patch, there's no way to tell that happened, as for my gpu/hdmi plug, it keeps the hot pl…

When we first wrote about Fingerbot Bluetooth mechanical button pusher to add automation control to (dumb) home appliances over two years ago, I was not convinced about the solution. But it must have gained enough traction, as Adaprox has now launched a sensor version – the Fingerbot Sense – with either Zigbee or Bluetooth connectivity, plus a new touchless control function. It works just the same way as before, simply place the Fingerbot Sense on top of a physical button, and control it with your smartphone, a voice assistant like Amazon Alexa or Google Home, or with the new touchless control, simply wave your hand in front of the button without having to touch it. A couple of months ago, we wrote about the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3E (CM3E) equipped with the Raspberry Pi RP3A0 SiP found in the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W board. It looks like an OEM product from Raspberry Pi trading, and as such is close to impossible to purchase. But if somehow, you’d like to have the guts of the Pi Zero 2 W into CM3 module form factor, Waveshare has designed the Zero-to-CM3 adapter for the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W that should be compatible with most carrier boards designed for Raspberry Pi CM3 or CM3+. As you can see, it is also using pogo pins to connect to the test points on the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W board in order to route the USB, USB OTG, and SD ca…

Description Fix Type-C DP altmode on some rk3399 boards. Currently only on rockchip64-6.15. The old implementation is tricky, and only works in normal orientation. If the plug is flipped, there will be only USB2.0 connectivity. With the proposed changes, the type-c ports on related rk3399 boards should work in both orientations. A few patches from Megous are picked(some of them already present in sunxi64 kernel patches). The tricky part is how to notify rk3399 cdn-dp driver about DP HPD(hot plug detection), and a workaround is written. A caveat is that the c port has to be OTG mode, otherwise it will behave very similar to the old implementation if DP is enabled. I'm …

armbian-kernel: don't force =n for DEBUG_INFO_DWARF5 and DEBUG_INFO_BTF armbian-kernel: don't force =n for DEBUG_INFO_DWARF5 and DEBUG_INFO_BTF really can't remember why I added those, and they cause trouble for BTF See https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/next/bpf/btf.html CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF: Generate BTF typeinfo Generate deduplicated BTF type information from DWARF debug info. Turning this on expects presence of pahole tool, which will convert DWARF type info into equivalent deduplicated BTF type info. View the full article

Description GitHub job summaries do not support colored output, but the kernel hardening script is using colored output. Thus, the job summary in the Actions panel is littered with ugly characters. This commit replaces them with emojis to enhance visibility. Before: After: How Has This Been Tested? Description Some high-resolution monitors (QHD/4K) will not output the desktop, and will enter sleep mode, directly after booting up an Armbian 23.8.1 desktop image and completing the initial setup questions. When such a monitor is attached, the kernel will auto-detect the SimpleDRM graphics driver, which is then prioritized over the Panfrost graphics driver. However, SimpleDRM outputs to a virtual output, while Panfrost outputs to the actual HDMI port. This causes the monitor to not receive any data. By blacklisting the simpledrm kernel module, Panfrost will take care of accelerated graphics (for any monitor) by default. Advanced users can still access simpledrm if req…
