Description I have these minor patches pending on a repository of mine for rockchip64, I would like to merge them to, later with another PR, commit a CSC configuration for rk3318 tvbox. Anyway these patches are generic and can be more or less useful: make timer and GPIO led triggers built-in like others enable brcmfmac for rockchip64 legacy kernel DDR_BLOB variable can be now specified in board configuration per-board otherwise the default is used. I noticed this was already in use for rockpi-4a and 4b board configs, but probably went missing when BOOT_SCENARIOs were introduced? Document the BOOT_SCENARIO options, with little in-line bash comments Add tpl-blob-atf-main…

The mtd-utils package provides NAND and SPI flash capabilities for mainline kernel /dev/mtdX devices. This will help on board setup from SD card boot. closes #4427 Description The mtd-utils package provides tools for flashing the boards NAND and/or SPI flash chips. In the meanwhile most NAND and SPI chips are supported by mainline kernel MTD drivers. Boards like Cubietruck or Odroid M1 can boot from NAND or SPI with mainline U-Boot. The according flash chips can be flashed with the mtd-utils tools from the mainline kernel booted OS after an initial Armbian SD card boot. This simplifies board setup or boards boot loader update to enable booting from the on board soldered…

Power problems are one of the most common causes of instability, boot failures, or random restarts in single board computers (SBCs). Because many modern boards use USB-C connectors for power, it’s important to verify that your power supply is delivering the correct voltage and current before assuming there’s a hardware fault. Check the basicsStart by confirming that your USB-C cable and adapter are rated for your board’s requirements. Most SBCs need 5 V at 3 A (15 W). Some boards, like the Orange Pi 5 or Raspberry Pi 5, may negotiate 9 V or 12 V via USB Power Delivery (PD), depending on their design. If you’re using a phone charger or low-power adapter, it may not provide…

I reviewed the Rockchip RK3588 mini PC with Android 12 last July, and I was impressed by the CPU and GPU performance, 4K video playback capabilities, except for AV1 which was not stable at the time, and support for HDMI audio passthrough. Android 12 was quite stable at that early stage as well. Some downsides …

Keep your SBC running cool and fastHeat is the enemy of performance. When your SBC gets too hot, it automatically slows down to prevent damage through thermal throttling. While most heatsinks come with pre-applied thermal pads for convenience, switching to quality thermal paste can significantly improve cooling and keep your board running at full speed. Why what's between your chip and heatsink mattersBoth thermal paste and thermal pads serve the same purpose: filling microscopic air gaps between your chip and heatsink. Air is one of the worst heat conductors, so eliminating these gaps is crucial for efficient cooling. Thermal paste wins because it's thinner and conforms …

A more reliable release process - made togetherhttp://blog.armbian.com/content/images/2025/11/release.png Each release cycle brings us closer to a smoother, more predictable, and more professional workflow—and this cycle was no exception. Our release process continues to evolve with better tooling, clearer procedures, and an increasing ability to deliver consistent results across a rapidly expanding and diverse hardware ecosystem. Despite having a significant amount of automated testing in place, the most reliable testing remains manual testing. Every image in this release was manually validated for basic functionality. This is a massive undertaking that requires time, di…

The newly released Arduino PLC IDE supports the five languages defined by the IEC 61131-3 standard: Ladder Diagram, Functional Block Diagram, Structured Text, Sequential Function Chart, and Instruction List. With Arduino focusing more and more on the industrial side with its Arduino Pro family, the company unveiled the Arduino Opta Micro PLC for industrial application last month and said it could be programmed with traditional PLC languages such as Ladder and FCB as well as the Arduino 2.0.0 IDE. The company now seems to have created an all-in-one integrated development environment for such hardware with the Arduino PLC IDE supporting PLC languages with Arduino Sketches. …

Hackerboards.com single board computer database has been around for several years starting as Board-DB, but I noticed another one called FindBoard while browsing on Aliexpress with some more exotic boards. Hackerboards’ database currently features 467 SBCs and MCU boards, while FindBoard has 453 boards. There are some overlaps, but also boards that are not found in the first database. Many of the boards on FindBoard are Linux-capable, but they are also some microcontroller boards as we can see from the screenshot above. If Chinese is selected, the “Buy now” will redirect you to Taobao, and if it is English they will be a link to an Aliexpress page. There’s a parametric se…

We’ve written about STMicro Time-of-Flight ranging sensors several times over the year, including the latest VL53L8 which offers a range of up to 4 meters. But if your application would benefit from a more extended range, Toppan and Brookman Technology have designed a three-dimensional range image sensor (3D sensor) capable of measuring distances from one to 30 meters. using a hybrid Time-of-Flight (ToF) method. That method, proposed by Professor Shoji Kawahito of Shizuoka University, is a new sensing technology combining the indirect ToF method of measuring distance by phase difference and the direct ToF methodology for measurement based on time differences. The hybrid m…

AAEON has unveiled the UP 4000 single board computer with a form factor and ports arrangement similar to Raspberry Pi 2/3, but powered by a choice of x86 processors, namely the Intel Atom E3900 series, Celeron N3350, or Pentium N4200 all parts of the Apollo Lake family. The first UP Board was introduced in 2015 as a device offering an x86 alternative to the Raspberry Pi 2 with an Intel Atom x5-Z8300/Z8350 “Cherry Trail” processor, but later “UP bridge the gap” boards from the company used larger “Squared” (85.6 x 90 mm) or “Xtreme” (122 x 120 mm) form factors. The UP 4000 SBC brings us back to the original business card form factor but with a boost in performance and vari…

OpenWrt 22.03 open-source Linux operating system for routers and entry-level embedded devices has just been released with over 3800 commits since the release of OpenWrt 21.02 nearly exactly one year ago. The new version features Firewall4 based on nftables, switching from the earlier iptables-based Firewall3, and adds support for over 180 new devices for a total of more than 1,580 embedded devices, including 15 devices capable of WiFi 6 connectivity using the MediaTek MT7915 wifi chip. OpenWrt developers explain that Firewall4 keeps the same the UCI firewall configuration syntax and should work as a drop-in replacement with most common setups, just generating nftables rul…
