This config simplifies the U-Boot build only scenario. If this switch is set, then KERNEL_ONLY is implied to "yes". The U-Boot only build also ensures proper host prepare and any other validation, the default build procedure performs. The motivation is to simplify UBOOT_ONLY building by just one compile parameter / switch, but keeping the default dependent compile procedures like e.g. host compare and other pre-config validations as is. This makes it also useful for CICD compile configurations. Changes lib/functions/main/config-prepare.sh: imply to set KERNEL_ONLY=yes, if UBOOT_ONLY is set "yes" lib/functions/main/default-build.sh: changed do_default(): added appr…

Updates for Radxa's Amlogic boards (radxa-zero and radxa-zero2) A few updates, mostly from https://github.com/radxa-repo/bsp; also bump u-boot to v2202.10 with a clearly-non-existing patchdir so it's pure mainline. Also required: https://github.com/armbian/firmware/pull/40 (merged, Wifi firmware) https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4408 (merged, allows using SDXC cards) Still not working: SDIO Wifi on my Zero (rev 1.51, 2gb RAM/32gb eMMC) which is failing; see https://discord.com/channels/855634073376260096/855657603378839582/1040610755671756911 ; it's very possible other boards work. Arduino boards have traditionally been programmed with C-like language in the Arduino IDE, but with the Arduino Lab for MicroPython, Arduino added MicroPython to several official Arduino boards. In the words of the Arduino Team, “not an official product yet, an experimental tool”, but I would not be surprised if it becomes an official IDE eventually as the company collaborated with Damien George, the creator of MicroPython, to port the official the virtual machine to a number of Arduino products, and Murilo Polese to develop the Arduino Lab for MicroPython cross-platform IDE for MicroPython. The IDE looks familiar… Oh yes, I see it now, it’s basically the Arduino IDE, b…

Changes in the name of patch files. two mandatory fields are used - a digital index that strictly fixes the position of the patch during the overlay process, the last character in the initial state is 0, this will allow you to add new patches to the right place at any time without having to rename all patches. The second required field is the name (nickname) of the user on GIT who added (is responsible for supporting) this patch in the build system. The rest of the patch file name is at the discretion of the person who adds it and it is desirable to have a description of the purpose of the patch. Please note that this name is not synonymous with the one who CREATED the pa…

Description Setting the display mode in armbianEnv.txt no longer worked, probably because it used an old, sunxi-specific interface. See the commit message (also shown below) for details about this. I'm marking this as draft, because: I'm not sure if we should reuse the disp_mode variable, or maybe use a different name (video_mode?) to make it clearer that the values it accepts are of a slightly different format (would also help to see that older documentation does not apply to this option). This fixes just sunxi, which I've been able to test only on a single board (Orange Pi PC). I'm not sure if similar changes are needed elsewhere (see last point in commit message). …

Without this, when mkimage fails (for example because the boot partition is too small), install.log shows an error like: mkimage: Write only 16310208/17794920 bytes, probably no space left on the device But this does not terminate the build, so the compile script shows no error and an image is generated, but it is unbootable. This runs the script with -e, so when mkimage fails, the script fails, which makes update-initramfs fail, which makes the build fail. How Has This Been Tested? Please describe the tests that you ran to verify your changes. Please also note any relevant details for your test configuration. [x] Build image for Orange Pi PC with BOOTFS_TYPE="fat" …

4K HDMI to USB 3.0 dongles based on Macrosilicon MS2130 video and audio acquisition chip are starting to show up on Aliexpress for around $19 with free shipping. We first discovered the MS2130 chip in the YuzukiLOHCC PRO open-source hardware board that claims to have a bills-of-material cost of about $10. Nicolai Electronics’ rp2040-ic2-interface open-source firmware for the Raspberry Pi Pico (or other Raspberry Pi RP2040 boards) converts the board into an I2C to USB bridge to connect any I2C sensor or module to a PC or other hardware without GPIOs. The firmware implements the USB protocol expected by the I2C-Tiny-USB kernel driver used by the original I2C-Tiny-USB project for Microchip ATMega 8-bit AVR microcontrollers. The RP2040 is however not a fork of the original project, but instead a complete re-implementation of the firmware. You’ll need to connect your I2C sensor, display, or another module to the SDA (GPIO 2) and SCL (GPIO 3) pins of the Raspberry Pi RP2040 micr…

Description This commit forces cgroup v1 usage as a workaround for docker / runc BPF issues until a proper fix is submitted Context Docker 20.10+ cannot run on our Asus Tinkerboard, it throws BPF related errors (Like opencontainers/runc#2959 , especially this comment). I tried a lot of armbian flavors (focal, jammy, bullseye + current, edge and legacy kernels), and even building an image with CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y as suggested by this comment but it didn't fix the issue. The only thing that fixed docker was to add extraargs=systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 to /boot/armbianEnv.txt. Until someone else does a proper fix to make cgroup v2 working, I suggest downgrading to …

The DongshanPI-D1s development board is comprised of a soldered-on Allwinner D1s RISC-V system-on-module board (SoM) and a carrier board with two 40-pin headers and a 2.0mm dedicated header. This development board is specifically designed to teach programming with a focus on the RISC-V architecture. The development board was designed by 100ask. They previously designed the Dongshan NeZha STU a development board based on the Allwinner D1. The main difference between the two is that 100ask did not include the Ethernet and HDMI interfaces on the DongshanPI-D1s board. The pinout of the headers is also slightly different because they opted to make the headers compatible with t…

A typical chip for AI or ML inference would include an NPU, a DSP, a real-time CPU, plus some memory, an application processor, an ISP, and a few more IP blocks. Quadric Chimera GPNPU (general purpose neural processor unit) IP combines the NPU, DSP, and real-time CPU into one single programmable core. According to Quadric, the main benefit of such design is simplifying system-on-chip (SoC) hardware design and subsequent software programming once the chip is available thanks to a unified architecture for machine learning inference as well as pre-and-post processing. Since the core is programmable it should also be future-proof. Three “QB series” Chimera GPNPU cores are ava…

Description kASLR is a handy security feature, with no performance downside. (The only downside is some slight inconvenience if you're using KGDB, but if you're the type of person who does kernel step debugging, it seems sane to guess you're already building your own kernel.) If it cannot be enabled due to lack of seed, the kernel will simply print a warning and continue. (See #4306 for more context on what was previously added to get it working on a NanoPi R4S.) I also believe this warning will be useful note for us to add rng support on all devices as time goes on. Example of failure: [ 0.052888] KASLR disabled due to lack of seed Example of success (on a NanoPi …

The challenge with TinyML is to extract the maximum performance/efficiency at the lowest footprint for AI workloads on microcontroller-class hardware. The TinyML-CAM pipeline, developed by a team of machine learning researchers in Europe, demonstrates what’s possible to achieve on relatively low-end hardware with a camera. Most specifically, they managed to reach over 80 FPS image recognition on the sub-$10 ESP32-CAM board with the open-source TinyML-CAM pipeline taking just about 1KB of RAM. It should work on other MCU boards with a camera, and training does not seem complex since we are told it takes around 30 minutes to implement a customized task. The researchers note…

It’s now much easier to AI features to your project thanks to better tools, but as we’ve experienced when trying out Edge Impulse machine learning platform on the XIAO BLE Sense board, it still requires some effort and the learning curve may be higher than some expect. But for common tasks like face detection, there’s no reason for the solution to be hard-to-use or expensive, and Pete Warden (Useful Sensors) has designed the $10 Person Sensor fitted with a camera module pre-programmed with algorithms that detect nearby faces and reports the results over an I2C interface.
