  5. Description Context systemd's cloud-init.target and armbian-firstrun.service will be started concurrently (both are wanted by multi-user.target). Both will try to create SSH host keys by default: armbian-firstrun will always delete SSH host keys and then generate new ones cloud-init.target (by default) will always delete SSH host keys and then generate new ones. Problem When one must run armbian-firstrun and cloud-init, there is no deterministic ordering between the 2 files execution and therefore no one can guarantee which will be last to setup OpenSSH host keys. In my current scenario, host keys are explicitly setup in cloud-init and I would expect armbian-firstrun…

  7. This week's work centers on board support expansion, kernel and U-Boot maintenance, and desktop and CI tooling refinements. On the platform side, the Radxa Cubie A5E received Wi-Fi enablement and a kernel refresh as part of a broader update, while the youyeetoo YY3588 was promoted from CSC to standard support and the YY3568 gained PCIe NVMe functionality. The NanoPi R76S and Rock 5 ITX were both migrated to mainline U-Boot v2026.04, dropping vendor-branch gates, and the Vanxoak HD-RK3506-EVB was added with vendor and board imagery. Kernel hygiene dominated the maintenance work: duplicate OPP labels on the Xiaoxin Pad Pro (sm8250) were corrected, broken UHS-I, xo-clock, SD…

Description Recent dts overlays broke cpufreq and SDnand support for Rock-PI-S. 11. NanoPi R4SE is a variant of the Rockchip RK3399-powered NanoPi R4S dual Gigabit Ethernet router that adds a 32GB eMMC flash instead of only relying on a microSD card for the operating system. Most of the specifications remain the same with dual GbE, two USB 3.0 ports, but the router is now only offered with 4GB LPDDR4 and there’s no option for only 1GB RAM, and the GPIO and USB 2.0 headers are gone. The listed temperature range also changed from -20°C to 70°C to 0°C to 80°C. NanoPi R4SE specifications: SoC – Rockchip RK3399 hexa-core processor with dual-Core Cortex-A72 up to 2.0 GHz, quad-core Cortex-A53 up to 1.5 GHz, Mali-T864 GPU with OpenGL ES1.1/2.0/3.0/3.1, OpenCL,…

  14. Changes in the name of patch files. two mandatory fields are used - a digital index that strictly fixes the position of the patch during the overlay process, the last character in the initial state is 0, this will allow you to add new patches to the right place at any time without having to rename all patches. The second required field is the name (nickname) of the user on GIT who added (is responsible for supporting) this patch in the build system. The rest of the patch file name is at the discretion of the person who adds it and it is desirable to have a description of the purpose of the patch. Please note that this name is not synonymous with the one who CREATED the pa…

  29. 5G is often associated with Gigabit speeds when found in mobile handsets or connected laptops, while there’s also 5G LPWA for battery-powered IoT devices. 5G RedCap, which stands for Reduced Capability, offers a middle ground for industrial IoT applications that keep some 5G features such as low latency, low power consumption, enhanced security, and network slicing while limiting the bandwidth to around 85 Mbps. 5G RedCap, also called NR Lite, will be part of 3GPP Release 17 scheduled for later in 2022, and further improved in Rel 18 in 2023. It will be first found in applications currently relying on LTE Cat 1 through Cat 4, and can be considered a light version of the 5…

VVenC and VVdeC are open-source software H.266/VCC video encoder and decoder respectively that are optimized to use SIMD instructions on x86 (SSE42/SIMDe and AVX2) and Arm, and the decoder runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android. H.266, aka VCC (Versatile Video Coding) video compression standard was adopted in 2020 promising to reduce data requirements by around 50% compared to the previous H.265/HEVC standard at the same visual quality. H.266 should also outperform the royalty-free AV1 video codec. We hadn’t seen news since the announcement, but this may be changing with the Realtek RTD1319D processor unveiled with support for both 4K H.266 and AV1 video decoding last…

  83. Description Introduce a driver that leverages the virtual poweroff feature of Trust OS for rk322x that allow Power On with IR remote controller KEY_POWER. It brings the board into suspended state (ie: "virtual poweroff") on shutdown and resumes power when the user pushes KEY_POWER of the remote controller. This is for current 6.1 and edge 6.5 kernels on rk322x family, but it could be possible to extend to other rockchip socs with minor changes. The driver may need some polishing here and there, but it already very usable. To be enabled, it requires the ir-wakeup overlay. How Has This Been Tested? Choosing the right input voltage and ensuring stable power supply for SBCsWhen working with single board computers (SBCs) like those supported by Armbian, one of the most overlooked but critical factors for performance and system reliability is the power supply. Whether you're running a lightweight server, a development environment, or a complex home automation system, power instability can lead to frustrating and difficult-to-diagnose problems. Understanding the correct input voltage and ensuring a stable power supply is essential for the long-term health of your SBC. Why Power Supply Issues Are So CommonUnlike desktop systems that come with regulated internal power supp…

Khadas VIM4 single board computer was first unveiled last October with Amlogic A311D2 octa-core Cortex-A73/A53 processor, 8GB LPDDR4X, but it’s only been launched today, and you can now buy the Khadas VIM4 board for right under $200. It is an upgrade to Khadas VIM3 Pro launched with Amlogiv A311D hexa-core processor a few years ago, and our testing in Android 11 revealed the main benefit may be the upgrade GPU that delivered a 67% boost in 3DMark, but CPU multi-core performance and memory bandwidth will also see some benefits over Amlogic A311D, even against in overclocked systems like ODROID N2+. Once upon a time, people tried to avoid STM32 fakes and clones, but in a world where companies are allegedly purchasing washing machines to extract a few unavailable components, people have started to look for alternatives, and last week I wrote about the Geehy APM32 family of STM32 clones. But I had never heard about Flashchip Microelectronics FCM32 microcontrollers, and they are even not that easy to find in search engines, so they must be relatively new. The company appears to make both FCM32F clones and FCM32H derivatives with no direct equivalent STM32 part numbers, a higher clock frequency, and faster flash. For example, the FCMF030F4P6 will match the specifications…
