So, the Linux Kernel 4.6 is out. Supposedly it comes with a lot of new ARM processor support. I'm excited about this. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to kernel development, especially with ARM devices. I guess the question is, what's it going to take to move the devices that use these supposedly newly supported chips up to 4.6? I'm somewhat keen on updating to a kernel that isn't approaching EOL.

Hello, with the update to the new kernel (4.6.3-sunxi) I get some problems on my banana pro. First, while the system starts I get sometimes a kernel panic. In the most cases the kernel will boot on the second or third try. But the second one will be contantly and can't be avoided by a system reboot. The network interfaces don't be worked. The will be initialized during the system start process, get there IPv4 addresses from the router per DHCP and ifconfig shown them with the state "up". Everything looks ok. But if I try to connect another system, the connection will be failed. Any ping, as exsample to the router (default gateway), fails. The ping t…

Hello It is funny that new kernels going out and kill what developers have made working on older kernels.. For example I have had no issues with GPIOs pull up in 5.1.15-sunxi64 kernel. On Kernel 5.1.15-sunxi64 I do not get those errors; Python: GPIO.add_event_detect(31, GPIO.RISING, callback=count1) RuntimeError: Failed to add edge detection I didnt have any issues with Kernel 5.1.15 but I cannot recreate it anymore. Maybe this will help to give a clue of what is happening: at 5.1.15 kernel: In ArmbianEnv.text I have enabled the w1-gpio: param_w1_pin=PC7 (PC7 Is GPIO-71) …

I hope the topic is on the right place ? It should only be a hint ! Kernel 6.12.20 for the banana Pi M2 zero doesn't support USB. I fixed this by reinstalling kernel v6.6.75. Regards Bernd

I have a question regarding the configuration of the /etc/asound.conf file... are there any changes in the new kernel that prevent this from happening? I've noticed that my USB audio card no longer loses its settings and its position doesn't change. However, to be sure, I tried editing the /etc/asound.conf file... but it turns out to be impossible 🙂 That is, after saving the settings in /etc/asound.conf... ALSA doesn't work! 🙂 Moreover, the blocking for certain selected devices doesn't work either. In my case, the blocking is: HDMI Audio... in the file: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf blacklist sun9i_hdmi_audio blacklist snd_soc_simple_card Are these changes rel…

Hi. I have Cubieboard 1 with Armbian Jessie installed on NAND. I've tried to disable output during boot as described here: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Fine-Tuning/#how-to-toggle-boot-output, but there are no existing boot.cmd and boot.scr in boot partition. I've found out that uEnv.txt have same purpose but it seems that editing this file doesn't affects arguments, /proc/cmdline remains the same.

Hi, admin. I installed Mainline 4.9.12-sunxi on my cubieboard 2. Since the Mainline kernel doesn't have Mail driver and hardware accelerated video decoding, I want to downgrade the kernel to Legacy 3.4.113. If I don't want to reinstall the whole system, is there anyway to replace the kernel with the old version? Many thks!

Hi, I compiled the newest version of u-boot. Then I updated it at my sd card via: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1k count=1023 seek=1 dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1024 seek=8 dd if=u-boot.bin of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=1024 seek=40 Now u-boot starts and I'll get to the message "Starting kernel ..." and nothing happens. Do I have to recompile the Kernel or did I something wrong? Edit: I did it on my NanoPi Neo2

Hi everyone! Follow instructuions https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus to setup hw decoding everyone need kernel with flags: CONFIG_MEDIA_SUPPORT CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER_REQUEST_API CONFIG_V4L_MEM2MEM_DRIVERS CONFIG_VIDEO_SUNXI_CEDRUS Images from armbian repo is without one of them - CONFIG_V4L_MEM2MEM_DRIVERS So my proposal is to make kernel for desktop prebuilds with this flag, if its possible ofcourse. Im understand that is opensourse project, so my help can be like that - i have really much space on Y.Drive and i can share folder to minimize download usage of armbian repo.

Out of curiosity, and according to several articles/posts including this one http://forum.lemaker.org/thread-1847-1-1.html the A20 has support for hardware watchdogs. Has some successfully configured and used the watchdog kernel module sunxi_wdt.ko in a banana / lamobo R1?

Hi there, while trying to solve the issue with OPi PC and rtl8188 (thread link) I managed to get console on the UART interface, nice feature considering my networking issues, btw is there a way to output the kernel messages (dmesg like) to the UART console in real time? I'm asking cos the issue that I'm trying to fix involves system freeze + automatic reboot and I would like to see the logs during the event. I already tried to mess with printk, but it's very likely I've done something wrong.

Hi. I'm looking for your kernel sources 3.4.113 with Mali400Mp driver. Is there a repo where I can download it or I have to patch myself the sunxi-v3.4.104-r0 kernel. In case there is no repo and I have to do this myself could you please tell me if my approach is correct for cubieboard2 and cubietruck3. 1) Download the sunxi kernel 3.4.104-r0 2) Download the armbian sources 5.24 3) Patch the kernel 3.4.104-r0 using lib/patch/kernel/sun7i-default files Did I forget something ? It would be so much better if I could download your full patched kernel 3.4.113 with Mali400MP driver. I am far from being an expert in this work. Thx

Hello, We have our A20 machine with a sdio wifi device Realtek 8723bs which is not included in the current kernel's modules, then when we try to cross-compile them in a PC it fail requiring kernel version 3.19 or later, i think mainline kernel could be a way to go or upgrade 3.4.x to 3.19.x, but some text claim unsupported nand in mainline which is required by the project and don't know the correct way to make it go to 3.19 in sunxi allwinner scenario. What do you think is the best way to make it work better, any clue please? Thank's in advance Daniel

Hi, I've got a quick question regarding the kernel upgrade instructions on a Cubietruck that runs on Igor's Debian image. Let me mention first that the system boots from my Cubietruck's NAND. However, the root partition and the /home partition are both installed on some SSD. I've followed the instructions about the kernel upgrade (3.4.106-cubieboard to 3.19.6-cubietruck) in order to be able to use the proper shutdown feature - as detailed on http://www.igorpecovnik.com/2013/12/24/cubietruck-debian-wheezy-sd-card-image/. I.e. I installed the various *.deb packages which were contained in the *.tar archive via `dpkg -i`. Then I ran the steps as desc…

Hi, when I try to update my core the apt-get install operation fails. This is because the post-installation script creates a symbolic link as the boot partition does not support because she is fat. Also the boot is only possible with a uImage not zImage I think. To compensate I am forced to make a copy instead of the link.

I'm willing to dusto off my H3-based Orange PI+ 2, because of all the great work that has being done recently on kernel 4.20, 5.0, 5.1 etc to support both H3 and Mali 400/450. However, for some reason, it seems that my board (even though it's officially supported) hasn't been updated past 4.19 kernel, so all the cool things are missing. On the other hand there are some WIP/no-yet-supported Orange Pi boards that DO support 5.1 kernel, so I'm a little bit confused. Is there any roadmap for newer kernels on H3 boards?

Hello, Im using a Orange Pi Zero, running nginx with Nextcloud. Im noticing 99.99% usage on the IO reported by iotop, but disk read and disk write show 0%. Even a refresh on the homepage bumps it up to the top of the IO list. As far as I am informed... isn't kswapd0 supposed to deal with swap memory and go wild when I am about to run out of RAM? I have disabled (hopefully), my swap partition, but I am still getting this. I have commented out the swap line in fstab... htop reports 0KB SWAP. It doesn't seem that I am running out of memory. Hi, I'd like to use kvm on the Orange Pi PC2, but the Armbian 4.14.12-sunxi64 kernel doesn't seem to enable it (or possibly the boot loader doesn't put the CPU in the right mode?). If I google: allwinner h5 kvm then the first hit shows a kernel boot log which shows kvm enabled on an Orange Pi PC2, so it looks like it's possible. I'm happy to recompile the kernel myself, but wanted to know if there were any gotchas that might mean this is disabled by default on purpose? Cheers, Tim.

I have a problem with my wireguard implementation. When connected through it I get lag spikes every few seconds. What might be the cause and solution to this? It is not the internet connection/cable/etc because a raspberry pi running wireguard works fine on the same exact cable, port etc.

Hi all, I'm writing this post because I had an issue upgrading my lamobo-r1 from the previous version to the current one (Armbian_5.20_Lamobo-r1_Ubuntu_xenial_4.7.3). On reboot hwclock doesn't start so I get my clock set to epoch, wan doesn't go UP, postfix says "time stamp 2015-11-25 01:40:22 is 1448411826.350146139 s in the future", random says "uninitialized urandom read"... a total mess. As pointed out on some sites, looks like "/etc/init/hwclock.conf" has "start on starting mountall" so failing to mount could cause a failing in hwclock initialization. I also found on bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu that in recent versions with systemd, mountall became fussy about fi…

I have installed armbian (4.9.7-sunxi) on my Lamobo R1 but i have a problem: It's possible to use the module ap6210 (like in bananian) for setting wlan0 acting in access point mode ? I don't find the way to do it using rtl8192cu Sorry for my bad english and thank you in advance Luca

Hi all, I've one minor issue with my Lamobo R1. I've to set the coherent_pool to > 256KiB to get my USB DVB device working. But every time I set the coherent_pool to e.g. 2M and regenerate the boot.scr the device gets in an endless boot loop (starting uboot - starting kernel - changes resolution and starts to load drivers - but then crashes with graphic errors and starts all over again). Is there something I can do against this? I've compiled the v3.0 with Jessie 3.4.107 with following kernel paramters configured (and sunxi uboot v2015.04): MEDIA_SUPPORT=m VIDEO_DEV=m SOUND=m GMAC_FOR_BANANAPI=y CMA=y CMA_SIZE_MBYTES=16 Greetings, Oliver

Hello, I am using for the first time a cable Neuftech PL2303HX I was looking @ lamobo-r1.fex file and cannot figure out which pins are the default uart for boot-up (not skilled enough yet) both links mention P13 as default, but I cannot get any messages from USB-uart cable (double checked UART RX & TX + ground) http://linux-sunxi.org/Lamobo_R1 http://www.bananapi.com/index.php/component/content/article?layout=edit&id=59 Thanks!

Hello and thanks for the good work and support with these images. First, excuse my bad english, it's not my native. And i am a little rookie and a little noob, so sorry if i write crap and don't understand basics some time. Recently i've try to install desktop on this board and hardware accelerated driver with partial result. I had Armbian_4.5_Lamobo-r1_Debian_wheezy_3.4.109 with installed Gnome. I install Gnome following this site: https://www.namhuy.net/1085/install-gui-on-debian-7-wheezy.html Then i started to install and configure stuff based on sunxi site. First libUMP tnen this: http://linux-sunxi.org/Mali_binary_driver "make test" didn't do anything - can't cr…

First i have to say - if i knew what i am gonna go through, i would never buy this troubled hardware. So don't buy it too. But if you are already strayed like me, i decided to share my modifications, to make this inconsiderate piece of hardware useful. With this mods the device finally work as i need it to and i am fully happy with hardware part. Not so happy with software though, but that's another story. The main reason for me, to buy this router, except pc like capabilities, was SATA+SATA power connector. I used my old router with usb HDD, so it sounded good to have it in box and on native sata interface. Silly me, who would thought this will be the most troubled …

Hello, i recently installed armbian on my newly bought Lamobo R1. Everything is working fine so far but for the onboard ethernet LEDs, they're not working as expected. The green LED on port 3 of the internal switch (also known as wan port) ist constantly on, no matter if there is a cable plugged in or not. The orange LED is always off. After some trial and error if figured out that on the other 4 ports the green LED, for the specific port, shows the current network traffic (is blinking) if the established connection is 10Base-T. If the connection is 1000Base-T, the orange LED shows the current network traffic and if the connection is 100Base-T no led is on or sh…

Good day all. Anyone having issues of not able to see anything after "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel." via serial console on Lamobo R1 ? Tried to experiment a bit, it seems that U-Boot works correctly, but in Linux kernel, sent data from USB-serial to ttyS0 arriving correctly, but anything written to ttyS0 is not visible on connected USB-serial adapter.

Gentlemen, which ports are confirmed to be working with 4.x kernels on Lamobo R1 ? I'm using Ubuntu image 5.10, with installed updates: Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS 4.5.5-sunxi. So far, seen only working UART3 (/dev/ttyS1) on pins 8/10 of CON3. U-boot seen on UART0 (J13), but under Linux, don't see anything on either UART0 or UART2. Anyone seen better results ?

First of all: my compliments to the staff of armbian for the important work done. I bought some lamobo r1 boards to use in a production environment such as (open)vpn router to realize a tele-service with PLC. I installed bananian (the first distro that I found on internet) but after a week I switched to armbian trying to create my own image from scratch. Very well, I like to have control over things. The question is: I should connect a lipo battery to the board so that when the main power goes off a daemon script syncs sd and then shutdown, but when the main power is reconnected the board must do a reboot automatically. It is possible to do this? Where should my daemon sc…

I know Lamobo-r1 has many problems and that the support ended, but it works fine for me. Everything works fine with kernel 4.14.84-sunxi, however, when I update the kernel, the b53 switch does not work anymore. I need to update the kernel to add another wifi usb dongle that seems to work only with newer kernels (https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au/issues/272#issuecomment-467983704). Anybody experiencing the same problem? Any ideas for a workaround?

Hi, I have Orange Pi Zero based on H2+ which is failed to boot Armbian_5.34_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.13.8.img Symptoms: Green power light is always on, red led next to it does not flash at all. Ethernet lights are off. I am using proper power supply and Sandisk A1 16Gb Class 10 micro sd-card. Connecting UART-USB adapter based on CP2102x to UART port next to Ethernet ports shows nothing. Exactly same setup, same hardware, no changes on connections/setup boots "Armbian_5.30_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img" image without any problems. UART works fine. Any ideas how I can help to test newer image?

Hello guys and gals Can anyone help me what information to add in boot.cmd file to make it bootable from SSD on SATA port? I found some examples but they are from 2014 and the information in my boot.cmd file looks slightly different from what is posted in the past. I'm using the latest Buster Server image with 4.19 kernel. By the way is it a good idea to enable TRIM for the SSD? I saw some options in YouTube how to enable TRIM, but just want to ask for opinion of people with SSD drives, who already managed to boot from SATA with SSD. setenv load_addr "0x44000000" setenv overlay_error "false" # default values setenv verbosity "1"…

Banana Pi is connected via normal cable directly to the router with DHCP. I have also tested cable and router and tried to use different cable. I have not changed anything else.

Hi, today I want to tell you, that I am very much upset about the result of the latest ARMBIAN Update! After updating I figured out, that the latest update erased my bash.bashrc.custom, which took me a long time to set it right! Unfortunate I did not have a backup! I am very much upset, that an armbian update erases configuration files WITHOUT any further notices!!! Regards, Ireng

I've been using a Beelink X2 with Armbian for some time now booting from eMMC. I ran an "apt update; apt upgrade" on the box early on 01/14/2018 and a reboot was suggested at the end. The system did not successfully reboot after this update and it appears that it doesn't recognize uboot on the eMMC. At the time I had other pressing matters so I set it aside to work on today. Today I downloaded the latest image Armbian_5.34.171121_BeelinkX2_Debian_stretch_next_4.13.14_desktop.img, verified it and successfully wrote the image to a 16GB microSD card. This successfully booted the X2, I then did an "apt update; apt upgrade" on the microSD card and rebooted. This then …

Hello everybody, I would like to know what needs to be done to make this work. I simply copied over the sources of the r3p2 mali module into the 3.4.113 Armbian kernel source and the module wos built without error. Then I recompiled libump, libmali and fbturbu. But when I tried to put the gpu to work I got an error message: eglgetdisplay() returned no display. Since there was nothing helpful in the logs I coudn't investigate further where the problem lies. Has anybody had success with the newer mali drivers? Any hints are very welcome...THANKS! Paul

I have an Olinuxino A20. Armbian has no HDMI sound and the video playback is a bit painful. This doesn't happen on Libreelec and, from my understanding, it's partly due to some kernel patches that they applied. Is it possible to use Libreeleec's kernel on armbian? If so, can someone guide me a little on how to do it? Thank you very much.

Hi All, @tkaiser mentions in this thread http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/1193-orange-pi-plus-2e-now-available/ the lima-memtester utility, requesting tests for the Orange Pi Plus 2E. Unfortunately I do not have a Orange Pi Plus 2E, I have however just received 10x Orange Pi Lite's and 2x Orange Pi PC+'s. Would it be useful to the project if I run this utility on all / some of my devices? Assuming yes and noting the comment: Do I need to run a desktop image with the HDMI plugged into a monitor? Also do I need provide some extra information to uniquely identify each board or will this happen automatically? Dave.

Hi there Have purchased a Lime 2 device, as it offered GigE-which my Pi's dont :-) Loaded up both the vanilla and the normal distro's but both have this annoying habit of the device just goes to sleep-sometimes after a few hours. When I say sleep, I can still see the Ethernet LED's blinking away-but it wont respond to PING's, and it wont respond to SSH. Plugging in a monitor and keyboard doesn't bring it back to life either. If I power recycle it (2.5A unit being used-have tried the OTG and the 5vdc but no difference), up she comes. Fully updated in terms of packages. I have even set up a continuous ping to my home router from the Lime 2 (its on my internal LAN) to see …
