Hi, I have just received some shiny new NanoPi Neo 2 boards, hardware v 1.1, model 1711 with 1Gb RAM. I have installed Armbian Stretch mainline kernel 4.19.y with no issues at all however I have noticed that the green LED is pretty well ignoring anything I ask of it. ls -la /sys/class/leds/ total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jan 25 16:14 . drwxr-xr-x 52 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 nanopi:green:status -> ../../devices/platform/leds/leds/nanopi:green:status lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 nanopi:red:pwr -> ../../devices/platform/leds/leds/nanopi:red:pwr cat /sys/class/leds/…

Hello, There seems to be scant details about the NanoPi Neo 2 LTS, so I thought I'd contribute some. My testing is much less formal than how some would measure it. What I especially like to do in the way of network speed testing are the "worst-case scenarios". My way of invoking a sort of "torture test" is to mostly test upload speeds (as they tend to be slower than download speeds), both large files (much easier), as well as uploading many tiny files (much more gruelling to store, so is therefore a major "torture test"). Having said that, I'll usually favor all-GbE networking (noting which I'm using, GbE or wifi), because I know GbE will b…

Hi there! I have been playing around with my NanoPi Neo 2 plus, I managed to get initramfs working thanks to the kernel config of armbian. I have just noticed a problem: only the first of the two USBs works. The second is completely dead. Big disclaimer: I am using an HTC PSU that provides only 1A, not the 2A that should be fed, although I do not know if this could be the cause of the issue. Aside from this problem, I cannot see other issues. Wifi is working and I disabled bluetooth. lsusb without anything plugged in to USB: Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID…

I just booted the NanoPi Neo2 with the latest "Server images with Armbian Linux v6.6" running Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble). After logging in via SSH, I saw a message stating that this image is for development use only and not for production. Based on your experience, how stable is the development image? Am I correct in understanding that there is no stable image for NanoPi Neo 2 ?

(Edit: it's a red herring for me to worry about swap. Please see a few posts down...) Hello. My NanoPi Neo 2 only has 512MB RAM. I'm using it for OpenMediaVault. It starts swapping very badly (totally paralysing it) when I FTP 60GB worth of tiny files into an attached 500GB SSD SATA drive (attached with the NAS kit). Yes, ProFTPd is RAM-hungry! I know how to create and work with traditional linux swap files. I'm a noob to this whole zram thing, which I suspect is more trouble than it's worth. I would prefer to not use zram, and use a traditional swap file on an attached 6TB 3.5" SATA drive (attached over USB 2.0 with UAS). It's a backup dri…

Just flashed Armbian 20.11.9 for NanoPi Neo 2 with kernel 5.10.4. I have run armbian-config to install kernel 5.10.4 source, but there is no any option for 5.10.x kernel sources, I see only options for 5.8.x and 5.9.x.

Hello, The NanoPi Neo 2 has an H5 SoC. When I look at the Linux mainlining effort chart at Sunxi, I see that Ethernet support for the H5 only came in the 4.15 kernel. But the kernel in the Armbian downloads for the NanoPi Neo 2 only have the 4.14.y kernel. So can one expect the GbE to work, on a NanoPi Neo 2, with the current Armbian (Bionic or Stretch)? Maybe you already backport the 4.15 Ethernet-related code (for the H5) into that 4.14.y kernel?

I have a NanoPi Neo that's been up about 4 months and I am using it for DHCP and DNS caching (using dnsmasq). This has been working fine over SSH until after the update. Previously, I could log in, edit the dnsmasq settings, and restart the service without issue. Now, when I attempt to restart a service (not just dnsmasq, I tested a couple others), it hangs and looks like it's waiting for a password entry on the TTY. (I'm logged in over SSH and I do not have a TTY connected). ... in first SSH session, this just hangs forever until I ctrl-C: root@nanopineo:/etc# systemctl restart dnsmasq ... in second SSH session, PS shows: root 1825 783 0…

Hello, I'm looking for an efficient way to update the eMMC-memory of multiple NanoPi NEO Air's (roll out a production image). I was thinking about integrating my own image in to the eflasher from FriendlyElec but then found this possibility to access the integrated memory via USB-OTG and FEL. https://forum.armbian.com/topic/1580-nanopi-neo-air/?page=9 Wherefore basically two repos are used: sunxi-tools fel-mass-storage I tried following the instructions, build and installed the sunxi-tools (sunxi-fel) and used "dd" to copy "fel-sdboot.img" to an empty SD card. For testing I took a brand new NanoPi NEO Air, connected UART0 with my P…

Hello, as already described in this topic: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/5619-nanopi-duo-sound-delay/ I have the same problem with delayed audio. -> " if I run speaker-test -t wav, instead of the sound playing "front left" it just play the work left, the continues playing "front left" correctly." When I run an audio-output-command two times, the audio is played well with the second command. But the greater problem in my case is a loud cracking noise when audio stops. Is there anyway to prevent the shutdown of the amplifier? I have to repeatingly start and stop audio files from nodejs. Thanks for your help, Jimmy

I have a NanoPi Neo Air (Allwinner H3 SoC) with onboard wifi and a serial interface. Unfortunately during some late hour hacking I managed to accidentally connect 5V onto its TX pin, I think effectively screwing up its UART0. I can no longer connect to it via a USB to TTL Serial cable. Looking at the NeoPi Nano Air's pinout diagram, it seems to have more UART devices (UART1 and UART2 even) so I wonder whether there's a way to set up armbian to communicate via these during boot? Another idea I had was to try to bypass the UART completely and to hook up the board via the wifi. Now, without having any access to a serial console, I need to …

Hi there, I recently purchased a NanoPi NEO Air from FriendlyElec with a CAM500B module. It works alright with the mjpg-streamer and their provided Ubuntu Core. I built an Arabian 5.27 Nano Pi Air Debian Jessie image with the default kernel and the device is no longer found. I've forced the load of ov5640 and vfe_v4l2 in /etc/modules, but /dev/video0 isn't appearing. The kernel log has this in it when the module is loaded: [ 116.519650] [OV5640@lex]init_sensor - frame_rate: 0, max_win_size: 11 If I boot back to Ubuntu Core via SD, the camera is back.

Dear Community, I currently want to reduce the transmission power of the NanoPi Neo Air. This means that I simply want to be able to set the Wifi transmission power in 10% steps, for example. What I have already tried: Instructions according to Wiki: OpenWrt image is not flashed. No access via browser. But it doesn't matter: max. transmission power is used in AP mode. Setting as in the Wiki image "TransmitPower:auto" probably does not apply here anyway. Network Manager TUI via "sudo nmtui" has no such settings. Adjust the NVRAM files in "/lib/firmware/brcm" or "/lib/firmware/ap6212" step by step. All changes are …

Hello, I am working on a project in which we need to use a Nanopi Neo Air (based on SoC Allwinner H3). In this project we need to use the USB serial interface to communicate with another part of the project. We need to configure the Nanopi Neo Air USB interface as a peripheral USB . Nanopi Neo Air's USB serial interface is configured by default as a USB host, and in "armbian-config" there is no way to change this configuration. The USB host (which is the other part of the project) will send data to the Nanopi Neo Air whenever there is new data. Is it possible to configure the Nanopi Neo Air as a peripheral USB? How can we do this configur…

I installed the experimental version of the NanoPi Neo Air distribution on my Air a month or two ago. At the time I believe Bluetooth was not working on that version. I don't see any indication that it is not working now, but it doesn't seem to be working on my install. Is Bluetooth working on the experimental kernel? If so, should I just re-install, or is it not hard to get it working on an existing install? I just installed the latest updates and rebooted, and that didn't fix it. The symptom that I'm seeing is that if I run bluetoothctl it prints a prompt, but seems to lock up.

Hi there, I'm trying to run luma.examples using an SSD1322 display via an SPI interface. I think I got the wiring right but the software is responding with errors. The app is expecting D/C and RESET parameter via a GPIO pin numbers to control the display.. I'm not sure how the Nano PI NEO Air physical pins are mapped to a GPIO port under Armbian. Where can I get a list of mappings for the physical pins to the GPIO pin numbers? How does this work? Is this an OS specific thing? Thanks in advance. Hello guys, I've been trying for the past month to get USB OTG and I2C to work on a NanoPI NEO AIR running Armbian, without any success. First sorry for starting a similar thread here and in [1]. I try to read a DS18B20, which does not work with Armbian, DietPi, and Friendlyarm's Ubuntu. This morning, my idea was to slow down the CPU - and it worked. In detail: By running some useless cpu consuming python scripts, reading the DS18B20 works fine. As soon as i stop them, reading the sensor immediately fails. So there might be some timing issues in the implementations of w1-gpio and w1-gpio-board. Are there any hints how i can get these issues fixed? Thanks! Thomas [1] http://www.friendlyarm.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=393

New toys to play The NanoPi Neo Core and Core2 are the Core-PCB without Connectors. Only Pin-holes in 2.54mm Pitch. But as the Pictures did show - there will be a Docking-Board like on the NanoPi Duo The price for the normal NanoPi Neo jumps from $7,99 to $9,99 and the new Neo Core now costs $7,99 (256MB and no eMMC) BUT has optional - also like the Neo Core2 (here 8GB default) - 8GB eMMC (512MB and 8GB eMMC = +$10 on the $7,99 Neo Core) The Neo Core2 does cost $24,99 but do have 1GB of Ram and (default) 8GB of eMMC (more options later). (long description show also - a obsolete? - option for only 512MB. But the board…

Hi guys, I am trying to install `ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.14.14-sunxi64` to the internal MMC with `nand-sata-install` but it seems that the internal MMC is not available after booting from SD. I tried to set the `sdc_detmode` as described here: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/1702-orange-pi-plus-2e-where-is-16ghz-and-sd/?tab=comments#comment-13163 But there is no `script.bin`. Any idea on how to flash the internal MMC on a Neo Core 2? Cheers! Robert

hello everyone, I managed to make a WaveShare's 3.5" SPI LCD (actually designed for arduino) work on NanoPi Neo Core running on armbian Bionic 4.19.57, but now i"m having some issues with the touchpanel (using the same SPI). i'm trying to figure out how where to connect the touchpanel cs pin, which from what i have read suppose to connect to CE1. could someone help me find out which pin is it? maybe this will help: root@nanopineo:~# dmesg | grep "spi0.1" [ 8.334791] spi spi0.1: spidev spi0.1 1000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00 [ 8.335492] spi spi0.1: spidev spi0.1 1000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00 [ 8.348670] ads7846_device: spidev spi0.1 1000…

Hi, Please see my comments in the other thread: Essentially when booting a Neo Core using the current air/core mainline image, the onboard fast ethernet is not being initialised. At a guess its because this is not included in the device tree (dtb/dts) for the nano pi air image or in uBoot config - however, if the image is to serve both boards it almost needs to - or they need to be separated. Both are probably reasonable options. Right now i'm trying to understand where the board defs for ethernet are collected during the image build using the armbian build environment and try and get a functional image with fast ethernet for the core…

hi everyone, I'm running latest Armbian 20.08.1 Buster with Linux 5.8.5-sunxi on a Nanopi Neo Core. I cannot understand why I cant turn GPIOA0 on\off, can't configure it as output. I have no problem with any other GPIOs, just this one. command i'm using: gpio mode 0 output gpio write 0 1 I managed to make the GPIO as Output using this command, but still no go - the output cannot be set. echo 0 > /sys/class/gpio/export echo out > '/sys/class/gpio/gpio0/direction' dmesg don't show any errors. I checked H3 documents, there's no conflict in the mux with other GPIOs, and just to be sure i turned UART every…

Good morning, I am having some problems with the i2c-1 bus, as it sometimes gets stuck even though I have external pull-up resistors. I need to be able to reset the bus to fix it and check the status of the channels, but I don’t know which Linux GPIO corresponds to the physical pins that the kernel associates with PA18 and PA19. I have tried using wiringPi, but it doesn’t indicate this. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Good morning, I have a NanoPi Neo core where I am trying to use the usb ports (USB1, USB2 and USB3), the first thing to say is that all usbhost is active in armbian-config. The system does not recognize me anything in any of the 3, not a pendrive, or Wi-Fi or anything. If I go to armbian-config, I see that the DTB system that has loaded is that of the NanoPi air, I do not know if it can influence. USB devices receive power when connected. Any idea if I have to activate something else or modify the DTB or something? I have tried adding to armbianEnv.txt this line at the end fdtfile = sun8i-h3-nanopi-neo.dtb but nothing. Thanks and best r…

Hi guys. I am testing a NanoPi Neo for an IoT project. I ordered one with unsoldered ethernet and USB ports. I am trying to use a miniature WiFi adapter plugged in the OTG port while powering the board from either the debug +/- pins, or from the 5V bus on the GPIO. The problem is that no mater what option I choose, the board powers up just fine, I can login using the debug port serial-over-consolem however the WiFi adapter doesn't pop up in the lsusb list. Using an OTG USB hub with external power, fires up the WiFi, however this is the only working way and my project has to have minimum cable clutter. I need to be able to plug in the NanoPi Neo on a PCB using its GPIO …

Hello, I am trying to use my NanoPi neo Plus 2 rev 1.2 board as KVM with help of (kvmd-armbian) and USB-HDMI capture card and USB-A to USB-A cable as OTG for emulation of Keyboard and mouse as HID. Sorry for the minimal info provided in this report but, due to the possible data corruption which the bug may cause, I'm not willing to reproduce this again on my board which runs in production. One week ago, I experienced data corruption happening on the nanopi. Actually it was some time (more than one month) that I saw the board acting weird: - long ssh transfers would sometime brake (via https://github.com/dooblem/bsync) - `apt update` reported invalid keys for the official armbian repository - on rare occasions, the board would freeze (not respond to ssh, requiring manual power cycle) After experiencing data corruption, I …

Sorry to ask that, i know there are tons of powerconsumption-discuss an optimization, and tewaking but i got lost. I just need to know how much Ampere a Nanopi NEO drains on fullload (4Cores), connnected with ethernet, no additional USB Hardware in default (no special h3consumtion). Especially boooting (i think armbian is throtteling on boot right?) is also very interessting. I need to buy a Powersupply which is sufficient for 15 NanoPi Boards in min and max consumption. Got very confused in reading the threads... But it seems 5V/2A is just a "be save in every situation" thing, and i think there is a "window" of throtttled booting and full-load 4 Core... So would…

I want to use an ESP-12F to add wireless to my NanoPi Neo, but I don't think the Neo has broken out all the connections I'd need. Hackaday desctibes how to interface a Raspberry Pi B+ to an ESP-12F (https://hackaday.io/project/8678/instructions), but the Neo seems to lack some of the required pins. I like this idea since I've liked the performance and ability of every esp8266 system I've used. Their wifi network is solid, and they're low cost. Is this a lost cause or is it possible? Or perhaps this is a dumb idea? I'm not sure how well it'll perform vs a usb wifi modules, but the idea has captured my imagination.

However, when I try to use it to read status register of my module, I get wrong values. My SPI settings are Speed: 10kHz Bits: 8 Mode: 0 (CPOL=0, CPHA=0) To debug the issue I used a logic analyzer and found the clock signal rising up just before the MISO/MOSI activity. It shouldn't do that. When CPOL = 0, clock should be idle at 0. I am setting the SPI mode to 0. Here is the code void SPI::init() { uint8_t bits = RF24_SP…

Hi, i am actually a bit confused. I thought that a NanoPi Neo V1.0! which is set to 1200Mhz Clockspeed, enabled USB and enabled GPU should burn a additonal 1A (fast) Fuse while doing a 100% Stresstest. It doesn't. Just get more speed and heat... I added an additional Wlan Stick for more powerconsumption... but this doesn't help either. In my opinion and the always stated "on 912Mhz" max 2 Watts... it should kill the 1A on 1200Mhz no? 5V 2W = 1A ... I do a small cluster here and i want to save the GND Rail for shortage to save the other nodes if one Node is melted down and cause shortage. I thought a 1A Fuse has to burn up... but reality is kicking my …

I'm powering my NanoPi Neo V1.4 1801 through the USB type A port beside the Ethernet RJ45. I'm using Armbian 23.11.1 bookworm with kernel Linux nanopineo 6.1.63-current-sunxi. Now I want to enable the Micro-USB port (usually used for powering) to act as an USB host so that I can plugin an USB-stick. I found very few instructions for e.g. Orange Pi. There the device tree needs to be changed for usb@1c19000 and usb0-vbus. Also in armbianEnv.txt the line param_usb0_mode=0 should be added. But none of the instructions work for my NanoPi Neo. In the schematics, a SY6280 is connected via GPIOL2/USB0-DRVVBUS to the H3 cpu. …

Thanks to the latest Armbian and my own script - I now have a NanoPi Neo (two of them actually) running everything I want - Node-Red, Mosquitto, SQLITE3 etc..... got control of serial ports - marvelous. I have only one problem - I have no idea despite several experiments - how to get WIFI working on the standard cheap Wifi dongles you get on Ebay. (usually say 802.11n on the black plastic end). Anyone succeeded with this? Pete.

Hello all I want to control some GPIO pins on my NanoPi Neo (H3) board and installed WiringNP. Executing commands results in the error piBoardRev: Unable to determine board revision from /proc/cpuinfo I've traced the source of the error down to this line, where WiringNP tries to open /sys/class/sunxi_info/sys_info to determine which board it is running on. This path is not present in my Armbian os. I'm using 4.11.12-sun8i #20 SMP armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux Am I missing something here? Or are there alternatives to using WiringNP?

I'm running an updated armbian stretch mainline on a nanopi neo and hitting a wall where I thought there would be no obstacles in my path. I'm using 433Mhx Tx and Rx devices so I'm building WiringNP (from FriendlyArm) and rfoutlet (from github.com/timleland/rfoutlet.git). I'm getting errors such as wiringPi ISR: Not implemented when running RFSniffer. [This is the current error, it's been one after another]. My mind is muddled at the moment since I've done this kind of thing several times in the past on other devices including the Orange Pi Zero. Can someone tell me if this is me, or if it's a NanoPi Neo-thing? Shouldn't this be straight-forwa…

Don't quite know what to expect here. The download page implies that there should be a gadget serial connection but there is nothing. I don't even see the USB DRC getting registered. Is this a known issue and is there a solution? Nano Pi Neo, Armbian (Armbian_5.27.170422_Nanopineo_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.10.11) External USB device works fine when connected via USB-A jack, but doesn't work when connected to 2.54 pin header (2,3). Is there some additional steps to activate internal (usb1, usb2) ports, or it's hardware problem?

As per the Subject, the I2C bus 0 is enabled and detected, but I don't see an addresses being returned when I try the i2cdetect -y 0 command. I have a single PCF 8574A connected with address 0x38. and have double checked the wiring. The PCF8574A did respond on the I2C bus on another SBC. Thanks John

Today I did get my NAS-Case "Neo Station NS-120B" for my NanoPi Neo2 (also useable with a normal NanoPi Neo). Because I already did use the Neo2 with armbian (and had soldered all pins on the mainboard - I ordered only the case without a new Neo2 with soldered pins) I didnt want to write the FriendlyARM Image for NAS to my uSD. After completing to built the Neo2 and the 2.5 HDD inside the case (and using the 12V PowerSupply I had) armbian did start up and I could normally SSH into my Neo2 - BUT I cant see the HDD or the HDD-controller (which should be connected via USB). ( @tkaisernow here the Neo2 do get his power over pins and not via the Mic…

Good day! I've had the Nanopi Neo2 v1.0 for sometime now, used for mostly for NAS solution. the v1.0 is the one being carried by my supplier here. No v1.1 yet Lately I installed armbian monitor to monitor system resources. Then I stumbled upon the min and max frequency when I checked using # cpufreq-info -p 408000 816000 ondemand I've read on some internet writeups that one can set the max frequency to 1008000 tried editing the cpufrequtils scaling_max_freq scaling_available_frequencies scaling_setspeed I was able to lower the minimum frequency to 120000 using the following entry…

Hi! I've recently bought a nanopi NEO2 which features an Allwinner H5. On FriendlyArm website (and on Allwinner's too) it is stated that the H5 is clocked 1.5Ghz. I need to perform some heavy job and and noticed that the cpu frequency hits, at full power, only 1Ghz. I checked using cpufreq-info and I got: driver: cpufreq-dt CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 1 2 3 CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0 1 2 3 maximum transition latency: 244 us. hardware limits: 120 MHz - 1.01 GHz available frequency steps: 120 MHz, 240 MHz, 312 MHz, 480 MHz, 624 MHz, 816 MHz, 1.01 GHz available cpufreq governors: conservative, ondemand, users…
