I was curious to see how Mainline kernel performs on GbE test against a Legacy kernel. For the Armbian side i chose the nightly dev Armbian_5.27.170602_Orangepiwin_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.11.1_desktop.img (Desktop) and for the Legacy i chose my own build with all "Bells and whistles" (full Desktop, hdmi, camera, bt and wifi). I did not optimized Armbian Mainline, just installed and run stock. For the Legacy i optimized as usual. If there is some optimization to do on Mainline side, i missed. I have some observations about the board and results: * Board is without Heat-sink, * Legacy subsequent test got lower values, i suspect it runs h…

Hi, I just acquired a couple of OrangePi zero's with the H2+ SoC and 512MB Ram. I tried to install the latest images for both Debian and Ubuntu burning then to microUSB with the regular dd command. The flash USB was a 32GB ebay cheap microUSB generic unbranded. I could not succeed at all in installing any distro, I even tried all the distros on the orangePi website. My strategy is to run the OPi headless, only connected to the ethernet cable, so no display at all. The symptons were always the same once powered (with a 1.2Amp phone charger) the OPi would start the blinking ethernet leds, on my router there was a new IP on the Lan but th…

Hello, I want to use the Banana Pi for VDR and need a dvb device - Geniatech T230 for example. Therefore I need i2c_mux enabled. On the 8. May 2017 I created a sd-card-image with your tool (virtualbox, ubuntu and "git clone https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib --depth 1"), everything works fine. :-) But I forget to enable the remote controller adapter in the kernel... O.k., I started to rerun all the things and created a new sd-card-image. But the network is out of funktion. :-( The system doesn't reach the dhcp-server. The network with a static ip-adress is out of function, too. Anything was changed on the system, wasn't it? The…

Orange Pi Zero has two LEDs in the ethernet port and I want to control those leds for system notifications, right now I'm running OpenWrt on the OPiZ and I just need to know which file I have to trigger the LEDs. In GL.iNet router I can control the LEDs by doing echo default-on > /sys/devices/platform/leds-gpio/leds/gl-connect:green:lan/trigger But I don't know how to do that in OPiZ. Please tell me which file I have to edit in order to control the LEDs of the OPiZ

I use "./compile.sh BRANCH=default BOARD=orangepilite KERNEL_ONLY=no PROGRESS_DISPLAY=plain RELEASE=xenial" to build the whole booting image for my orangepi lite, it works very good as the official prebuilt armbian image. Here, the usb otg port seems configured as peripheral mode already( g_searial module works as gadget in fact), I can use it as usb seraial well. However, I want to make it works as a usb storage, so, I though the g_mass_storage was the right module. I loaded it using following command: insmode g_mass_storage.ko file=/dev/mmcblk0p1 removable=1 then, I got kernel message like: [ 194.842091] usb open ba…

Hi All, I used armbian for a few month and it works pretty good for me. Everything start going bad since I update it with RAID 1.1 board. Current system: Cubietruck + RAID board + Armbian (actual Ubuntu Xenial next) The issue is that board do not want to accept HDDs without reformatting them in a first row, ok, I made a full backup and after new installation from SD to the RAID just restore it --> It does not boot up even if I change fstab and armbianenv.txt in a boot section. I change /boot/armbianenv.txt (or how it called) parameter UUID to SD card back and could boot again, but system is on SD card. I perform…

Hi everyone, I am using an orange pi one to run a table top CNC machine I built and using it to run bCNC to send the g-code to an Arduino. I had downloaded and flashed an image of the Debian Jessie Desktop V5.20 a while ago and it has been working great for other things along the way as well as this project. I had some issues with the bCNC program and decided to uninstall the OS and restart from new. When I did, everything seems normal until I get to the login screen in the terminal area where I have to create a new user account and password and enter my information, then it asks if I want to change the display settings from what I already have which I don't…

After figuring out how to enable analog audio on the Lime2 (https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/topic/4224-analog-audio-on-lime2-with-stable-kernel-version-49/), I now have the problem that there is a clearly noticeable mainline hum whenever no sound is playing. The hum goes away as soon as any sound is playing on the device, and it returns a couple seconds after the sound stopped. It appears like some kind of power saving feature kicks in. With the legacy kernel the hum goes away during boot and does not return. Any ideas?

Dont know whats wrong, but none of the images on the page are working, tried to burn them with ApplePI-Baker and Etcher, but no luck. Board boots fine with stock android image. There was someone in here that got it working with an image called Armbian_5.27_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Debian_jessie_dev_4.11.0.img.xz but where do I download that image ?. And yes I know there is loads of problems, but wanted to test som perfomance on the board. Hope somebody can point me in the right direction

I hear that Orange Pi 2E has 1GB network speed and an USB3 port. In my project I paln to use an SBC as a network bridge and sniff traffic for problems. A simple network tap would otherwise be ok but they come only with 10/100Mbd speed limit. What I'd do have two ethernet ports on the Orange Pi, one regular and one via USB3. No to my question: are Orange Pi capable for this or is the advertised network/USB3 speed buggy/lacking? I have one Orange Pi PC for a file server and it has been running for weeks just fine. Raspberry Pi's are fine to (albeit still no 1GB ethernet). Raspberry Zero's have issues (mine seem to lock up after a couple of days).

I am trying to figure out how to make the Orange Pi Zero a USB gadget. Preferably a USB Vendor Device but a mass storage device would work for now. I was able to successfully create the ethernet gadget. (Using Armbian_3.4.112_g_ether_kernel.tar.bz2) That is pretty cool. But I would like the mass storage or vendor device. I was playing around with modprobe but I am not really sure what I am doing. Module g_mass_storage is not found. I have searched this site and online for the last few hours and just got more confused. Thanks for any help.

Hello Armbian community. Recently, I decided do try new distros for the Cubieboard 2. and Armbian seemed to be a really good option. However, just booting the latest image started to cause problems. After writing the image with the proper software on a proper SD card as mentioned by this webpage, it just doesn't work at all. To be brief, I took pictures of what appears on the screen, first being what seems like to be an error displayed by text, then a really messed up screen, and finally the board shutting down by itself. I would appreciate any help or recommendations regarding this issue.

Hi, after the update from Armbian 5.23 to 5.25 on a Banana Pi M2+ board, the MAC address and CPU serial number have changed. This can be reproduced by just updating the u-boot package on Armbian 5.23: # ifconfig | grep HWaddr eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr da:c7:a0:49:24:d6 # grep Serial /proc/cpuinfo Serial : 2435501d0a0e4800004d # dpkg -i linux-u-boot-bananapim2plus_5.25_armhf.deb # reboot # ifconfig | grep HWaddr eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 3a:89:a1:23:98:a6 # grep Serial /proc/cpuinfo Serial : 24005035871c481d0a0e Does anyone know the reason for this? Did u-boot change the way these numbers are generated? …

Hi, After reading a post about NAS for allwinner, I need some advices: So far I have same performance on my raspberry pi b+ and my orangepi2e : 2 hard drives 2 To 2,5" usb on a powered hub. (approx 11 Mb/s max through AFP/nfs share). Gigabit does not seem to be the bottleneck on the pi since it does not impact my bit rates. My question is simple : can I have better performance if I make a RAID via btrfs ? Do I have to format my hard drives ? What is the best distro ? (I used armbian but does not seem very stable compared to the raspberry, what about ubuntu server, or raspbian ?) Thanks

Hello, to all OrangePI PC enthusiasts. Well I'm in the community of those who definitely underestimated the Orange of the PI, but let me share my burden :-) for the fun of it. It started with the camera- gc2035 and vfe_v4l2 modules. Had to try a couple of images until I got it by luck I guess - after that I found out that every image I use is not capable of having a FTDI device connected to "ANY" USB Port (OK, you got me, I didn't try the microUSB and I won't). After that I tried no matter what I wanted to connect to USB it was not even recognized. Now I'm back in changing/swapping around Images until I found one that let me plug anything I …

Hi, I got a new nano pi neo air and wanted to add a microphone to record sound. First I tried my USB mic and it worked without any problem then I saw a topic in here: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/topic/3598-nano-pi-neo-air-mic-audio-out/ According to this topic, I can attach a mic to the pins that mentioned. Greetings, all! I've got a LeMaker A20 BananaPro, on which I'm using the Armbian mainline distribution (for a more complete description of my setup, please see below). I'm using a serial console to the board; I'm not connecting anything to HDMI for display. I'm running the distribution off of a brand new 8Gig SanDisk Extreme Pro. I would like to use alsa (at least in part) in the audio stack. I'm experiencing the following: When I have no audio playing through the audio out jack, I get a loud (powerline, probably) hum on my speakers. When I start audio playback (a wav through aplay, or an mp3 through mpd, etc.) the hum disappears, and the so…

It used to function fine, however after not using it for awhile it has quit working. It starts booting normally, then hangs with what's visible on the screen being a bunch of systemd messages, with the last being either something about system variables or mounting FUSE file filesystem, when it's the latter it's followed up with a kernel panic. I've reflashed several times using both the server and desktop images freshly downloaded, no difference. The power supply I'm using worked before, as did the SD card. Unfortunately I have no way of showing you system logs or such for the time being. Any help would be appreciated.

I think I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyways. Is there any command line software out there (e.g., VLC) that I could put onto an Armbian Server Edition version that would show a movie out on the HDMI port? I have a NanoPi M1 that has a HDMI port. But I'm assuming that without all the Desktop video driver, it isn't possible to do this on a headless server.

Hi, I have serious problems with the 5.25 images of armbian on a cubietruck. After a fresh install and apt-get update apt-get upgrade I get errors with : dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-libc-dev_4.4.0-78.99_armhf.deb (--unpack) This is for the Armbian_5.25_Cubietruck_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.9.7 image, with other images this concerns a different package. Only Armbian_5.25_Cubietruck_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113 works. After this error, the filesystem seems to be defect and is remounted ro. On another try, I removed the rmount ro on error option from the fstab and the /var/lib/dpkg directory was corrupted. …

Good afternoon, I am using armbian 5.25 on orangepipcplus with legacy kernel. when visiting google.com site with firefox, I will only see the "mobile" site with restricted functionality. On the bottom of the screen there is a link "Google-Ansicht klassisch" which should bring me to the desktop version of google. But when pressing this a popup tries to come up but will not finish its presentation. Now this tab is blocked, I never get to accept google terms and conditions and can not use google. Do you see the same behaviour? Is there any known remedy? PS: Yes, I tried firefox "safe mode" - same thing! Thanks, gnasch

Hi, I bought an orangepi zero H5 and I try to setup armbian on sd card. I write the image with etcher but there is no screen display when I boot. I wait long time about 10mn, my card is 16Gb, but no display on my hdmi tv. I test Armbian_5.27_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.11.0 , and the nightly build Armbian_5.27.170520_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.11.1 but it is the same story: no display. I test the official Ubuntu from Orangepi there is no problem, the boot is fast and I get display on my tv. Do you have some advice ? Thanks. G*

Orange Pi Plus 2e How do I clone the SD card and both have boot capability? I am new to the concepts of Pi's so I am looking to slowly add abilities to the pi and have a working clone which I can use when I stuff it up. I have also seen no mention of grub being used anywhere. My main computer is a amd 64 with Debian running but I can use my laptop with win 8.1 on it but would prefer a solution which I can use on Debian Thanks for your help Dave

What is the latest version of Armbian tested and proven working with a gc2035 camera module, please? I tried a few months ago and ran into so many issues, I gave up. Camera works in Android, didn't work in the Armbian I tried, and was eventually advised to try an earlier version that I couldn't easily find. I decided to defer the problem, but it is now more pressing. Thanks in advance for info and advice. Regards, Charlie

Hi, I am new to development on Orange Pi and as such new to the concept of overlays. For the application I want to run on Orange Pi, I need to disable all USB ports (host an OTG), bluetooth, HDMI and audio out. Is there a way to do it using overlays? Or can I use sunxi-pio utility for the same? I am using nightlu build of Debian Jessie with kernel 4.10.3 Appreciate any help. -Sunil

I received my new Orange Pi Plus 2e and tried to set it up. I already got an Orange Pi PC2 running so it's not really something new to me. I used the latest Armbian images (desktop and server), flashed them to my SD card (with Etcher) and plugged it into the Pi. The green LED lights up and the device seems to be working. To this point it's the same as on my PC2. But after ~1min the red LED starts flashing twice over and over and nothing seems to be working. I get no signal over the HDMI out and the LED keeps flashing. I flashed the SD card three times to make sure it's not a flashing error. I tried the desktop image twice and the server image once. It always ends wit…

I'm sorry for the lame question, I just don't wanna regret anything before buying this fan, so I'm talking about this fan (3cm x 3cm) Spoiler I want to mount this fan right below the board by just screwing it in. Do the holes fit perfectly with the holes of the opiz board ? I've asked this before on facebook but someone suggested me to just glue the fan directly onto the board but I'm afraid it'll damage the board instead.

I booted up my OPi0 + $2 expansion board this weekend after reading through the doc on it warning about TVout problems. Used the legacy Xenial 5.25 build available. I used the USB-serial method and logged in from my PC via SSH later over WiFi. On the TV there was no desktop GUI display, just the regular login prompts CLI. So this is not a RCA composite cable issue, but likely a display one...my TV is 720p. 1. On the TV I just got the login prompt after the text based Orange Pi Welcome screen. After logging in it stays text, as if I were in Terminal. I tried to install: $sudo apt-get xorg lightdm xfce4 tango-icon…

Armbian Cubietruck Desktop does not start the graphical environment for Nand. I downloaded the Armbian Legacy 5:10 Cubietruck Debian jessie 3.4.112 Desktop (http://mirror.igorpecovnik.com/Armbian_5.10_Cubietruck_Debian_jessie_3.4.112_desktop.7z) , I recorded the image on an SD card using a software called Rufus ( https://rufus.akeo.ie/ ) Insert the card into Cubietruck and Armbian starts and works perfectly ! Nand-sata-install.sh run the script to perform the copy of the card to nand , the same copy without any error and asks at the end off the Cubietruck and disconnect the SD card . After disconnecting the SD card the Armbian does not start. However I rode the…

Firstly many thanks to all the hard work from the Armbian developers - it installed onto the eMMC of my new Orange Pi Plus2E first time with no problems I'm trying to benchmark the board (with a fan/heatsink) and without. The standard Armbian runs it at a maximum of 1.296GHz but I'd like to run it faster. I'm new to using fex, but this appears to push it up to 1.536GHz with a Vdd of 1.5V: cd bin2fex /boot/bin/orangepiplus2e.bin orangepiplus2e.heatsink.fex sed -i "s/1296000/1536000/g; s/1320/1500/" orangepiplus2e.heatsink.fex cp /etc/default/cpufrequtils /etc/default/cpufrequtils~ sed -i "s/1296000/1536000/" /etc/default/cpufrequtils fex2bin orangepiplus2e.heatsink.…

Hi, I wrote Armbian_5.25_Cubietruck_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img to sd-card and booted my cubietruck from the card. ssh in and user creation followed by reboot (rootfs resize) After that i performed apt get update&upgrade and started nand-sata-install. I have SSD hooked to CubieTruck and my goal is boot system from onboard memory (with 3.4-kernel nand is available but not with 4.9...) and roots to /dev/sda1. This was how previous setup was. sd-card slot is broken, I need to use tape to keep card on the reader, another reason why boot from nand would be nice. Hello, actually i have "Bananian" with the kernel "3.4.113-bananian", and I would like to switch to the Armbian mainline kernel! My problem / question is how does it work with the GPIO in the mainline kernel? I use these commands under the legacy kernel... As a newbie struggling for a month trying to find resources to set a static IP for Wifi DHCP and to get my PC to directly communicate to my OPZ via ethernet so I can be mobile... I am ecstatic to stumble across this solution, and had to share. Basically all you need to do is add a few bits of info to the /etc/network/interfaces file that is first made to setup wifi on the OPZ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zGRAPguaSQ). Here is the modified /etc/network/interfaces file contents that worked for me, in blue: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet static #last wor…

Hi everyone. I heard Armbian was the to-go distribution for the Nanopi NEO Air. I've got a bunch of these boards where I'd like to use the built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capability in a small form factor for a project. I don't need video or audio or other functionality. I see a legacy kernel "stable build" and a mainline kernel "experimental" build. For the experimental build it lists the following known problems: No Mali drivers No hardware accelerated video decoding schedutil CPU governor may cause clicks and pops on audio output – change(d) to ondemand to work around this issue This sounds fine with me. I need no video, and…

Below are supplementary quotes helpful to asking the question: can CPU presets be made into a desktop shortcut that could allow pre-defined CPU freq settings whether onthe fly or even reboot required? Is so, what would the code be? That's the question I can't answer. I ask because of the two Beelink X2s (one each of Armbian flavors); I'd like to get a hands-on feel for how high the temps can be expected to go. I probably won't be running hot for long, but then again I just received a bag of heat sinks and can also drill holes in the plastic box for better air circulation. QUOTE 1 for reference: Some boards allow to adjust CPU speed. nano…

Hi, I have an Orange Pi Zero (256MB) board. I downloaded the prebuilt image named as "Armbian_5.25_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img" and used it without a problem. Then I cloned the project from github and cross compiled on an Ubuntu 16.04 computer (4.4.0-31-generic kernel) by using the "compile.sh" script. It created an image named as "Armbian_5.27_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img". But this image halts after printing "ion_reserve_common: ion reserve: [0x47e00000, 0x50000000]!". Thanks for the hard work on Armbian. I finally got the EmulationStation GUI to run under OpenGL ES @ ~88fps on OrangePI PC. The trick was mostly building SDL2 from source and not installing it with apt-get per the instructions. Really want to avoid anything "mesa". IIRC, I configured SDL2 with a similar command before making: ./configure --host=arm-linux-gnueabihf --disable-video-opengl Then building EmulationStation from source using: cmake -DGLSystem=OpenGL\ ES . make make install FWIW I did symlink some shared objects into /usr/lib/ (like libMali.so) Next is sorting out libretro stuff.
