Dear all, on my ODROID-HC2 Armbian Bullseye installation there is a script /usr/bin/wireguard-manager and I'm curious what this is about at all. In my opinion only wireguard-tools is "ok" to setup a wireguard VPN configuration but no "wireguard" package or such a script which installs a bunch of stuff and weird things. Unfortunately I was new to wireguard and this was my 1st configuration and setup I did. I discovered the mentioned script and executed "wireguard-manager --help" which against my expectation started an installation of different stuff. I didn't cancel this because I was afraid in ending in half-baked misconfigured states. It did "apt …

Hello, i want to use ssh public key over wireguard vpn to do an automatic backup of my nextcloud instance running on an debian 11 x86 pc. I recently updated my neo 3 to bullseye (device is client). Copied my public key with ssh-copy-id command but get propted an password authentication when try to login. Tried the buster image, but same problem sshd config is the delivered one with the image. Is there anything special with armbian? With my pi 4 and raspberry os (1. backup device) everything is working.

Hello community, when I SSH into my ODROID-HC2 I get the nice coloured MOTD which I really like. Question 1) I found the configuration file /etc/default/armbian-motd and the directory /etc/update-motd.d and after reading the bash code I lack in understanding why some information lines are suppressed in the MOTD banner when the scripts get executed. For example: I would expect to see some net traffic stats because /etc/default/armbian-motd uses the default setting PRIMARY_DIRECTION="rx" and the package "vnstat" is installed and "vnstat -i eth0" return correct output. I also tried changing PRIMARY_DIRECTION line to ="both" but I don't get any…

Hi all, can anyone explain to me how the boot process of an ODROID-HC2 looks in detail, please? for example, my microSD card is /dev/mmcblk1 and it contains only one partition /dev/mmcbl1p1. Questions: a) I think the ODROID-HC2 can exclusively boot from a microSD card, is this correct? Without sdCard the boot process is not possible, right? b) where exactly sits the bootloader? is it in a certain sector of the microSD card and if so where exactly and how long? or does the ODROID-HC2 trying to read at specific addresses and if so where? c) can u-boot only process the first partition of the block device or would it be theoretica…

Hello everyone, I have not been able to make the OrangePi +2E (with Armbian Bullseye) of which I present the ix.io that can be seen from the lines 605 to 636, in which the dmesg seems to reject the ADALM PLUTO. I have another device with Armbian Buster, this one is a pcDuino4 nano fully compatible with the OPi One image in which the result is exactly the same. Not that I am an expert, I first contacted Travis from Analog Devices but he asked me if there is any special flag on the USB nodes in the device tree? But I haven't touched it, so I thought I'd come to consult you here. I hope you can help me, Thank you very much, Regards VH PD: here (https:/…

Greetings all! A noob here just starting to explore and grasp Linux, ARM, and SBC's. I hope I'm posting in a correct area; don't want to ruffle any feathers. I've worked with IoT for a bit, while we several Rpi's collected dust until I put one to work with Node Red for a smart-home project. That sparked my interest, and I aquired a used Rock64 board relatively cheap to play. In retrospect it may have not been the right choice but I have it now. After trying several "dis-jointed" OS's steered to by the Pine website, and finding them to only work partially, at best, I came across Armbian after much searching. I'm very glad I did. I find the OS I selected to be very ade…

Hello, I'm new here. I started using the armbian OS 2 days ago, and I'm facing some problems when running some web-server transfers due to lack of space on /tmp. Hello. Some time ago I worked with an LCD display with st7735 driver on my orange pi zero and the kernel 4.19y. I make it work very good following many instructions found in web pages (like this: https://www.instructables.com/Orange-Pi-Zero-Connect-TFT-SPI-ST7735/). But now is not possible to find any image with this kernel in the official download page and, with the new kernel that method does not work when y try to use the modprobe fbtft_device. I've been looking for possible solutions in order to make it work but usually I fail because language is very technical, my knowledge about drivers is superficial and English is not my native language: …

Hi, I've already installed Armbian once before onto the SD card of my Rock PI S (Non-flash version). Before upgrading to Focal, I plugged it into my serial receiver in order to verify that I got the procedures correct so when I upgrade I'd get a console. I was glad I did that as I had forgotten I couldn't get screen(1) to work with my serial device as it can't send and receive data at the 1.5Mbs. I ended up using minicom(1). I downloaded the Focal Edge version of Armbian, verified the data with the ASC key, and wrote it to the Micro-SD card. I then booted it and the blue LED started blinking indicating an alive and working kernel. But I got no data over the…

I have a Pinebook Pro and installed Focal xfce on its eMMC. I would like to swith to i3. So I have installed `i3`, `i3status` and `i3lock` using apt. Then I have altered the `user-session` config of lightdm from `xfce` to `i3` (actually did this at three places). With all this done, I still end up in XFCE. Hints on where to look further are welcome.

Hello. I am using the NanoPi NEO Core board to communicate via UART1 and UART2 ports. I configure the ports using Python - pyserial. This Android device uses a Linux4.4 kernel. Considering that my nanopc-T3 lacks the functions required by a higher version of Linux, I would like to transplant the 4.14 version of Linux to this Android device at most without the bootloader source code. What's interesting about the device tree? It seems that the kernel provided by the device manufacturer includes some device drivers that are not included in the Linux kernel nativery. will cross-version compilation be a problem? https://github.com/LineageOS/android_kernel_motorola_msm8998

Hello all, I am unsuccessful in setting up FDE (Full-Disk-Encryption) on an ODROID HC-2. This device has no display output and I have no clue if and how it's possible to debug the boot issue. Hi, I'm trying to generate a U-Boot for my OrangePi Plus board (H3). I'm using the Denx 2021.10 release and have tried the standard defconfig for this board and also variations of this config. Starting the kernel is fine but the kernel crashes/hangs when starting if I'm using HYP (nonsec) mode. Starting in sec mode works but this only enables one of the four CPU cores. The kernel crash/hang occurs while executing "udevadm trigger --action=add" but I can't determine exactly what is being enabled when the error occurs. Trying different kernels (including the Armbian 5.10 version) show no difference. The Armbian U-Boot (2021-10 dated August 2…

I think my level of proficiency with armbian has earned me an "ignore" status here :-) I am trying to configure the serial port on a Banana Pi M2 Zero. I have done it a Raspberry PI and confirmed that all works well. Can anyone help me with he following questions? How do I enable the UART for GPIO 14 & 15 (Pins 8, 10)? How do disable serial console mode (had to do this in raspbian)? How do I disable RTS and CTS using parameters? I will donate $20 as soon as a UART connection is made.

I am trying to connect to a 3D printer board using 3 wire serial, that is no CTS and RTS. I had a Wemos wifi module on it previously so I know it works. Now I need to use my BanaPi M2 Zero to control it thorough the same port, the Wemos has been removed and not going back. I keep getting a failure to initialize when I try to connect to the board. I am trying to use Pins 8 & 10 which is supposed to be UART 3 = /dev/ttyS3 from what I understand. Questions: How can I test the port? I have Minicom installed. How do I set the parameters to disable CTS and RTS? What flow control should I be using? Software? …

Hi all, I'm looking for an sbc with low power consumption, but still able to run linux (arduino like solutions are somewhat unflexible, and take longer to configure). Basically it should be able to do rs232 and be able to store data to an sd card. It should be able to run approximately two weeks on batteries. Wifi/ethernet/hdmi are not required if there is a way to use a serial console (apart from the extra rs232 which is connected to our measuring device). I already own a banana pi (original) and raspberry pi zero (apart from other boards which draw much more power). Are there any boards I could check out that have significantly lower power u…

I am using a Banana Pi M2 Zero to control my 3D printer controller. It works perfectly running Armbian through the USB port but I need to switch to UART for 2 reasons. First I could not disable USB Otg so it's pumping voltage into the board and the display is washed out form the additional power. Second, it is impossible to use a USB cable because the USB port is only accessible from the outside in the steel enclosure. I used armbian config to disable USB and then select UART 3 to use GPIO pins 8 and 10 but can't get it to work. I keep getting a Failed to init error Is that all the config I need to do? Hello, I've been playing on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ with an I2S audio amplifier and could play music from it. Now I want to add more devices to experiment with multi-room systems. The only other system with I2S support I have here is a NanoPi NEO. It has dedicated I2S pins so that shouldn't be too complicated. I thought. But it doesn't work. 'aplay -l' says "no soundcards found" and 'speaker-test -c2' essentially says the same. 'armbian-config' doesn't have a switch to enable I2S, only SPDIF, which sounds plausible considering that the SPDIF pin is multipurpose while the I2S pins are not. A web search for several terms didn't bring up something useful.…

Hello everyone! I tried to enable cedrus264 encoder/decoder on my old OrangePI Lite 2 (revision 1 if I am right). With the Orange Pi Zero 2 (Bullseye), when in Armbian-config I install desktop with browser...it seems working but when you enable the desktop it finished by a kill() in the terminal. You can solve the issue by apt-get install tightdm.after and not before. You will get the desktop for the user and not root. Grey Background with the pinguin. If you install Desktop in Bullseye with Orange Pi One Plus or Orange Pi Zero, no issue. You have the new Debian Desktop with a Background dark blue. Regards F1ATB.fr

It's a Debian stretch server (Armbian to be specific). When I ran "apt-get update" the day before yesterday, it gave me an error: "The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 648ACFD622F3D138 NO_PUBKEY 0E98404D386FA1D9". I searched the Internet and finally resolved the issue by running the following commands: apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 648ACFD622F3D138 apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 0E98404D386FA1D9 Initially I tried to use "--keyserver keyring.debian.org" but it didn't work. Therefore, I did some further research, and I read from https://wiki.debian.…

I installed the Armbian desktop environment via armbian-config. Then I disabled it, and I saw that many of the packages were uninstalled by my next "apt upgrade". I want to install them again, but armbian-config only lets me "enable" or "disable" the Desktop now. It won't install anything anymore. So my question is how do I redo what armbian-config did during the first time, to reinstall all Armbian desktop files?

I downloaded the Armbian Buster image from the downloads section of armbian.com and flashed the image to an sd card, as instructed. I have installed sddm, gnome, etc in addition to running apt update & apt upgrade and creating a new user. The system looks good and I planned on using nand-sata-install to write the OS to my emmc .. according to everything I have found, executing nand-sata-install from the root prompt gives a screen that has 3 choices, one of which is "Boot from emmc; system on emmc" Instead, this is what I get: 1 Boot from SD - system on SATA, eMMC or NVMe 5 Install/Update the Bootloader on SD/eMMC I just wa…

I was experiencing slow writes to internal SD card and hard drives connected to an USB 2.0 hub on multiple Odroid HC1. IOWAIT was 99.99% most of the time during large file copies. I found that Armbian was simply waiting too long to write data to disk. Kernel parameters are optimized for writing small amounts of data to SD card when running from that in order to reduce wear. If you have the same problem, you might get factor 10-100 faster writes using the following sysctl settings: vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs=50 vm.dirty_expire_centisecs=50 No need to act, if iotop shows low IOWAIT values on your system.

Hi, I'm trying to boot a legacy 3.4 kernel using the current Armbian U-Boot but progress stops after U-Boot starts the kernel. The last line displayed is "Starting kernel ...". I believe the kernel (uImage) is being loaded at 0x48000000 and the script.bin is being loaded at 0x43000000. These values seem correct to me. Does anybody know if booting these old kernels is still supported with newer U-Boot ? I'd like to have one U-Boot that can handle both old and new. Thanks, Steven

I have a Banana PI M2 Zero that I am using to run a 3D printer. Unfortunately the USB port puts out 5V, which I need to disable. Is there any way to do this by editing a file or using a script? There are cases where it might be useful but I'd rather have it off permanently if thats the only choice.

Yes, I managed to do this. Luckily I managed to re-enable the GDM3 graphical console on-start-up by using the debug serial port and then using the GUI through the TV to put the tick back to enable networking. Yep, very much a noob mistake. So, the question is when networking is disabled so eth0 and wlan0 disappear, leaving only lo, how do I get eth0 and wlan0 back just using the command line? I can't easily find how to do this. I've looked, I've searched and now .... help! :-) (I do also have the ability to put the MicroSD card into my laptop, so maybe it would be simpler to do that and change some configuration files to re-enable networking?) …

Hello, I am having reboot issues with my Odroid C4 running Armbian 21.08.2 Focal with kernel 5.10.60 on an eMMC card. I run the SBC headless and log in via ssh. When I issue the reboot command it shuts down but does not start up again. Does anyone know how to resolve this? It is kind of annoying to everytime cut of power and then connect the cable again. I also issues the command: nand-sata-install as recommended on the download page but this does not help. Many thanks! regards, Udo

We have all seen the recent release announcement of Armbian 21.08 which now includes a beta release of Debian 11 (Bullseye). I have a RockPro64 (Rockchip 3399) that is currently running Debian 10 (Buster) that I would like to upgrade, so that it gets the latest packages from Debian and continues to receive security patches. I am tempted to just upgrade it by editing /etc/apt/sources.list and pulling the latest packages (the debian way), but I wondered if there is a safer way to perform the upgrade. Has anyone else upgraded a Debian based Armbain system that way. Are there any issues to watch out for? What customisations are there in Arm…

Hi, Recently I generated a U-boot with SPL for an A20 OrangePi board but couldn't get it to boot. I've tried to debug this and the best I could do is find the SPL hangs/waits in a function called dread. The last display is "Trying to boot from MMC1". The U-boot version is 2021.10-rc3 from the denx.de site. After I overwrote the SPL on the SD-card with an older SPL everything is fine. I've tried changing various config options but just can't get the new SPL to work. Has anybody made a U-boot from this latest release and got the SPL to work ? Or can anybody tell me the .config settings used when building the Armbian version so I can compare them to mine …

Hello all. A possible mission impossible challenge for someone who wishes to accept it and this message will not self-destruct in 10 seconds. :-) The LED1 (green) and LED2 (blue) on the BanabaPi Pro. How do I get them to show the watchdog heart beat and the MMC card usage? An out-of-date Rasbian Distro for the Lemaker BananaPi Pro had this feature this right-out-of-the-box, but at the moment on Armbian I've only got the steady red power LED. Is there a way to enable this functionality within Armbian?

When searching the forum on this topic I find a number of hits saying the mainline kernel does not have support for the SOC codec, but these topics are kind of old and I find it hard to find the current status. In the past I have been able to use the onboard audio codec. However, I have been forced to upgrade and I now find that with the kernel I get from Armbian, I do not see the audio (ALSA) device nodes for the codec, only for HDMI. When looking at the kernel configuration, it should be in (SUN8I_CODEC and SUN8I_CODEC_ANALOG are both 'y'), but alas. Does anyone know if and how I can enable the audio codec so I can have analog audio output? I bui…

Dear all, I'm running Armbian 21.02.1 on the nanopi neo3 (diagnostic: http://ix.io/3y5D) using /etc/network/interfaces and have network-manager disabled (`sudo systemctl disable network-manager.service` ). After analyzing the situation the network-manager update apparently removed the softlink `/etc/resolv.conf -> /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf` and replaced it with a text file. Hello all and I apologise for the rather long subject title there. A bit of a mouthful :-) I can understand how to create a .dts/.dtb file from an already running existing linux system on an arm based device. But what about if there is no linux image to run on it? Is it possible to take the device tree from an android device and then turn that into a .dts/.dtb file? Also am I correct in saying that pretty much the first thing that would be needed to boot any sort of linux on an arm device like this (R69 box) is a working .dts/.dtb file so it can boot? Case in point is my old R69 TV box. It always was and remains problematic in booting old thread but wa…

Hello, I'd like to set up a WLAN access point with WLAN adapters attached to USB on my Orange Pi Zero. First I started with a dualband adapter and used the armbian-config tool. It took forever (like minutes with a black screen) but eventually completed and gave me a working access point on channel 40. That's fine but I also need to be able to change this to a 2.4 GHz channel. That's where things got problematic. I edited /etc/hostapd.conf and changed the channel number from 40 to 5, then restarted hostapd. That didn't work. The service restarted but there was no access point anywhere to be found on the air. Also, the WLAN adapter's LED …

Hi, I've had orange pi one laying around and also couple of camera modules scrapped over different devices, which only one seems to be the "known" model of ov2640, which is supposed to be supported on linux mainline kernel, but unfortunately no module is compiled into armbian image, so I've had to compiled it solely for the running kernel. Hello all! Not sure if anyone saw this at all or not but the latest debian (11) now includes the panfrost and lima drivers! https://wiki.debian.org/PanfrostLima If I'm reading things correctly the needed bits and pieces (as well as a recent kernel) are in the packages "libglx-mesa0" and "libgl1-mesa-dri". Thought I would give this a go on a now (somewhat old-ish) Odroid XU4 device. It uses the mali t620 graphics chipset which I believe is in those panfrost drivers. I used the image file "Armbian_21.08.1_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_5.4.142.img.xz". I did notice that the older kernel in that image (5.4.x) did not seem to detect anythi…

Hello everyone. I have a custom board with A20 SoC running Buster kernel version 5. Configured device tree, everything works. My problem is that the board uses I2C4 bus to drive CSI1 camera and that I2C4 bus seems to be reserved for HDMI. i2cdetect -l gives i2c-0, i2c-1, i2c-2, i2c-3 and sunxi-hdmi-i2c adapter. Of course, trying to access sunxi-hdmi-i2c adapter from code (c++) or a tool (v4l2-ctl) results in an error as resource is busy. As I don't use HDMI at all and I2C2 bus is free, my question is how can I set dummy I2C2 bus to be assigned to HDMI or somehow release I2C4 bus so it's accessible by camera driver. Removing or disabling HDMI from…

Out of the box consumption is approx. 480mWatts. Currently using Armbian 21.05.8 Buster Don't need: USB WiFi Any display output and Only need eth0 for possibly 10 mins a day. Any suggestion on how to power down specific components such as above? Interestingly shutdown via the command line increase the power consumption to around 700mW?? Thanks, Rob.

Hi! There are Images for an old/original Lemaker "Banana Pi" up to 03/2021 in the archive, but from that time onward it seems like only "Banana Pi Pro" is supported with new images. Is it possible and save to use such "Banana Pi Pro"-image for the old Banana Pi too or should I stick to the last archived version of the "Banana Pi"-image? I'm running Armbian Focal on my Pinebook Pro. With other distros, I'm accustomed to being able to run utilities requiring root privileges like gparted and Synaptic from the Application menu. With Armbian, however, nothing happens after I click on the application. There is no popup window to authenticate with a root password and the application does not launch. The aps work fine when run from a terminal using sudo, but how can I correct this problem with the Application menu? Thanks!

I'm using a BPi M1, installed downloaded image (Armbian_21.05.1_Bananapi_buster_current_5.10.34.img) switched 5.10.43, updated "Firmware" and boot loader. uname -a Linux bananapi 5.10.43-sunxi #21.05.6 SMP Mon Jun 21 15:07:45 UTC 2021 armv7l GNU/Linux First I installed and configured openvpn, the next step would be wifi, so plugged in my wireless adapter: root@bananapi:~# lsusb Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 003: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW…
