Hi I installed the official release on my Z83 mini PC and it boots up great, but when I go to install to the emmc it fails at the U-Boot generation step with the error below. Has anyone seen this before or know a workaround? I did check to see if this was just a red herring error but as the error says the bootloader does not get written. "Error while creating U-Boot loader image with mkimage" "Error: no u-boot package found, exiting." Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello dear armbianites, I'm trying to make the hc1 optimization for the odroid HC2 board permanent, every time the kernel is updated, armbiam loses the optimization and an admin action is needed to apply the optimization again via ambianconfig > System DTB > optimized board configuration, followed by a reboot. My Odroid HC2 suffers from temperature sensor problems, which can be easily bypassed. But I avoid restarts of this server which hosts an OMV instance for personal needs. I understand that the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file passes the information to /boot/boot.ini, but this file seems to be overwritten when the kernel is updated! is t…

Hi Sirs, for first excuse me for my English. I followed all the instructions, used a 8GB class 10 SD Card, burned it with the program proposed, put in the Box but obtained only a purple led. After 30 mintes no other results. I don't know if I missed some steps, but it seems to do all correctly. No results at all at the present time. The S/N is X2HCAAG40056. Maybe could be blocked for upgrade or other? Actually the Vendor is 207K4. Thank you for your possible help. Have a Merry Christmas Gianluca

Hi all. I hope I'm posting this in the right section of the forum. I'm looking for an SBC to use as a media center (Kodi) attached to an old CRT TV to watch (among others) german DVB-T2 terrestrial broadcasts. I've set up a Raspberry Pi 3 with OSMC so far and this works well for net content but isn't up to the task of decoding the H.265 TV streams, presumably due to lack of hardware support. So, what I need is an SBC with hardware support for H.265 decoding which also sports a composite video output. Preliminary research leads me to believe that the Orange Pi series of boards should be up to the task and seem well supported by Armbian. However, I'm a bit lo…

New bananapi M5, no net. initial boot and config failed, font missing characters would not allow me to edit networking entries. rebooted it with the power cord, started x by hand, Menu's totally different from 2 previous installs on rock64's. Finally found a terminal, and switched fonts in geany so now the keyboard is generally working. in geany, but not in armbian-config. I have edited the /etc/hosts file to setup my static address network, fixed resolv.conf and chattr +i it so nm can't destroy it. I have edited /etc/hostname but can't get it to to "take". ip a returns that eth0 is up but no ipv4 or ipv6 address can be seen …

Hi guys, Using Debian Jessie/armbian 4.5 here. Was today using tcpdump, tested out also tshark, and aparently the BPF rules are not working... (?) This issue is present both with libpcap 1.7.4-1 and 1.6.2-2 As an example: rui@ruir:/etc$ sudo tcpdump -n not port 22 | egrep "22[ :]" tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 262144 bytes 14:50:34.559080 IP xx.xxx.254.104.22 > xxx.xxx.xxx.2.…

Hi guys, the history before: I ordered 2x OrangePi3 and got them at 29/07/2019. The 1st one I've unpacked could not be flashed to another Operating System. Neither the images of the developer worked nor the armbian. I figured out, that the HDMI port and the SD card reader is buggy at that 1st device. Today I unpacked the 2nd OrangePI3 and armbian booted easily and rapidly into the SD card OS. I was able to flash the eMMC with armbian and I am happy, but not with the 1st one of OPI3. I hope that the manufacturer in china will exchange the buggy OPI3 for a working other one. To cut a long story short, the a…

Hi everyone, I'm an experienced Debian user but it's my first time with Armbian running on an Orange Pi Zero. I'd like to make it a DB node by running MySQL. As there is no MySQL available in the apt repository, I tried MariaDB but during the installation (tried multiple times) I don't get asked for a password and need to run mysql --skip-grant-tables which leads to db failure, permission problems (like root can access without password while all the other users are blocked). Installation from source code fails due to limited memory. How can I seamlessly get mysql-server to work on Armbian?

Before I do anything stupid, could I get some feedback about the recommended/safest way to upgrade this package? …

I'm fairly new to Linux, so excuse me when I'm asking the obvious. I'm using ARMbian 5.25 stable Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i on a Orange Pi Zero, RTL-SDR and DireWolf When I execute from prompt: rtl_fm -f 144.80M - | direwolf -c sdr.conf -r 24000 -D 1 - Everything starts up as it should. But as I'm planning to use a headless setup, some self sustaining feature after power failure or whatnot is necessary. I figured out how to configure a cronjob and it starts a shell script when the software is not running. In that shellscript I'm using: DWCMD="bash -c 'rtl_fm -f 144.80M - | direwolf -c s…

Hi guys, I Love Armbian mainline as docker host, no problems yet apart from below one. Then I found this out by accident : while upgrading the kernel and tuning at the same time : It helps to have more CPU load, so : I made a bash script to load one core 100%, avoiding I/O (htop confirms 100%) And now tuning works : 2 FTA HD channels ( 30Mbps ) looks pretty good. What ist the correct way of accessing the gpio ports from within the kernel? Thanks for helping.

I made a custom A20 board of which sch is very close to lime2 for a project (retrostone2) and I can't use USB0 as a classic USB port. The three USB (0 1 2) are all connected to regular USB type A connectors. No OTG used. However I can't get the USB0 to work. USB1 and USB2 works without issue. But USB0 will not recognize keyboard/any peripheral. I think it's probably because of OTG detect pins. I looked at the DTS, but I am having trouble understanding how OTG is emplemented there, how to unactivate it and just activate a classic USB port. Any ideas?

First of All... Great job on this Distro very much appreciated. Thanks. I have a goal of running a real-time kernel on a H3 (NanoPi Neo preferably and or M1). Ultimate goal is to be able to run MachineKit on one of these (headless on Neo). MachineKit requires a real-time kernel with RT_PREEMPT being the preferred choice it seems. There are patches available for the kernel for 4.6 and 4.8. so we look to tracking close to the mainline with 4.7.6 considering 4.8 released on Oct 2nd. I tried patching the Armbian Kernel and not unexpectedly I got a number of conflicts with previous patches and some rejects. I am looking for some guidance here as to the best way t…

If you don't like autologin in Armbian Ubuntu desktop, or if yo want to have several desktops to choose, here is how I did this. Tested on legacy image, but I belive that same setup should work on mainline too. 1. Install ubuntu desktop image on MMC (I did it using Etcher) 2. Install display manager. Because of simplicity, I choose LXDM. sudo apt-get install lxdm 3. Set default session and disable nodm Edit /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf Find line: session=/usr/bin/startlxde Replace it with: session=/usr/bin/startxfce4 Fix for XFCE session entry from LXDM session menu: Open the /usr/share/xsessions/x…

Hi! Using mainline on custom A20 board with sch very close to lime2, with 2 differences: (- EMAC of lime instead of GMAC of lime2) - AP6210 wifi/bt module on MMC3 with same schematic as cubietruck. Only difference in AP6210 schematic is that : - we use PE1 for WIFI_Enable instead of PH9. - PE0 for wifi_host_wake instead of PH10. BT works OK. Wifi doesn't work. To test the wifi part, we used cubietruck DTS, only patching the parts about PH9 and PH10. BRCMFMAC load without any messages and iwconfig / ifcongif say there is no wireless card. "dmesg | grep brcmfmac" gives no results. nor "dmesg | gr…

I now have a RockPi4a running Armbian_20.02.0-rc1_Rockpi-4b_bionic_legacy_4.4.210_desktop from eMMC. Now i wanted to see how i most easily can experiment with newer distributions, such as 5.x. The radxa debian images for rockpi4 use a lot of partitions and it was quite easy to reformat the eMMC to have two system partitions, install different linux versions into them, and then configure the boot script to allow booting from different partitions/kernels via serial console and there selecting the desired kernel. In Armbian, it seems booting uses the boot.cmd script to boot the kernel. Is there a simple example of the boot script with a m…

I've just installed armbian to Pinebook Pro's eMCC using the full-disk encryption helper script from https://github.com/mmgen/mmgen-geek-tools The said script was executed inside an armbian installation in an sd card with official Pinebook Pro image. The eMCC installation almost worked - it boots to graphical desktop, however there's no wifi and bluetooth. I don't have any other way to connect the laptop to internet. I guess the way to fix this is to boot the sd card again because it has internet, then open the encrypted disk manually and chroot to its root, then run some command - but I don't know which one! Please help.

Hi there, how to manually disable kernel updates? Orange Pi 5, Armbian 24.11.1, kernel 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx. mPCIe working ok with NVMe 512GB module. There is NO option to disable kernel updates in armbian-config -> system there's only option to ENABLE firmware updates. And login screen shows kernel updates ENABLED. I don't want to loose NVMe support on upgrade. Laurent

R40 is a new SoC from Allwinner known as 'quad-core A20 successor' (link to datasheet). It shares most hardware details with A20 (true SATA, GbE -- EMAC and GMAC listed separately -- 2 USB2.0 host ports, one USB OTG, and fortunately also PMIC/battery support (link to AXP221s datasheet). Unfortunately Allwinner chose a manufacturing partner known for never providing exact specs/info to produce the first R40 device available. So we won't get any info about performance and working hardware features unless we buy this device on our own and test. I just had a quick look into one already released OS image 'funnily' based on one of our Armbian OS images for a H3 board: …

Hello I wanted to post on here regarding a new project we have been working on called SimpNAS. Its similar to OpenMediaVault or FreeNAS but simpler and more basic. It can be installed on armbian devices as long as it has two hard drives one for the OS and one for Data. For example we have it installed on an ODroid HC2, but can be installed on any PC. Feedback will be greatly appreciated. Check it out here https://simpnas.com Thanks for looking

nanoPi M4 running Armbian 21.02.1 Buster with Linux 5.10.12-rockchip64. Attached are two identical B25 USB Bluetooth Transmitter Sticks which are supposed to transmit the same MP3 stream (provided by Mopidy or Shairplay Sync). The following screenshot shows just a single B25 stick attached, the second one has yet to arrive. I expect them to all have the same USB ID ID 0a12:1004: Here’s the problem: After each reboot the system (or ALSA?) gives the B25 stick a different card number in aplayer -l (in the screenshot above B25 is card #2, on the next reboot it could switch position and be #1). Question therefore: How can I make two id…

Hello, I have an Odroid N2+ on Armbian 23.02 Bullseye. I wish to upgrade to Bookworm. Initially I expected to do the upgrade after the update to Armbian 23.05 via apt but I tend to think we will have directly 23.08 without 23.05 I won't ask for the date when we will have 23.05 but has someone upgraded to Bookworm with Armbian 23.05? I know this kind of upgrade is not officially supported but as I made it from Buster to Bullseye I have the same project for Bookworm. But I am not sure Bookworm and Armbian 23.05 are really compatible.

Hi all. I am new to Arm and Linux in general. Got me a Raspberry pi5 several days ago and was going trough different OS systems so i can settle on one final choice. Landed in the Armbian community and tested the Armbian Bookworn / Gnome distro and was amazed how smooth and good looking this is. The only problem i have is the lack of preinstalled Widevine support. I know (and also tested) that Raspberry OS does have DRM playback support trough Widevine. So it works with the latest 64bit Arm Linux Kernel, right ? So i even went and extracted the Widevine folder form the RpOS system.... Now, several days after i am clueless on how to install Widevine and make the Chcromi…

So I downloaded Armbian_20.02.1_Orangepione_buster_current_5.4.20_desktop and I boot it up in my Orange PI PC and it started very well, there is one issue, I noticed that just one USB port is working, so I can only work with a mouse or a keyboard (It sounds dumb I know), so do you have any solution for that? Also I would like to know if a wifi dongle can work with this image.

I have read a few forum posts on the topic but I'm still not convinced. Which one is safer and more stable for Armbian based NAS? I previously had issues and data loss on BTRFS. However I now hear that it's much more stable. I been using ZFS on FreeBSD without any issues for years and I would prefer it but it seems that it's a hit and miss to get it working. I just did and it was very easy but I read that people have random issues with upgrades etc. Any thoughts? Thanks! a

Hi, FYI, there might be an issue with old, slow hardware. Yesterday I installed the minimal Ubuntu 26.04 current 6.18.24 downloaded from https://armbian.com/boards/bananapi on my old Banana Pi on an similar old 8GB SD by sandisk. It runs normaly, but cannot set up the end0 during booting. Doing an "ip link set end0 up" manually on cli afterwards immediately activated end0, so my solution was using an script to do this command after booting. The AI aiding me thinks it's just the slow hardware causing a timeout when it should set up the interface during booting. Just wanted to let you know.

Of the boards supported by Armbian, which do you prefer for multiple audio devices and audio related applications? I need to control two audio streams, in and out each and add information to the streams as appropriate. I would like to use as little external hardware as possible so stereo mic or dual mic input and stereo out would be awesome. I'm a little overwhelmed by the choices, so opinions are definitely welcome here.

Hello, I have a RockPro64 running Armbian buster version 20.02.1 (Linux kernel 5.4.26-rockchip64) I have connected an M.2 SSD via an adapter in the PCIe slot, and have setup an LVM PV on it, with a number logical ext4 and btrfs volumes on it. All this worked fine when I set it up, but when I went to reboot the system, it never came back. On the serial console, I got a series of message from the firmware and U-Boot, then "Starting kernel ..." and nothing. (I waited about half an hour) I have increased the boot verbosity, by increasing the value in /boot/armbianEnv.txt from 1 to 7. Hello all! First of all, apologies for being such a noob but I am very eager to get started and there may be some ambiguous language here as a result. I am getting started in Armbian Linux Buster on the Pine A64+ and for my first project I'd like to program a 7 segment display (four digits) to display descending numbers from 1000. As you may know, 7-segment displays with more than one digit require the display to operate at a certain frequency in order to display multiple digits as a result of the common anode/cathode configuration. I have already played around with a simple LED and have gotten it to light up in armbian linux buster on the A64 (by defining the…

I have one of these boards: http://www.orangepi.org/Orange%20Pi%20R1%20Plus/ https://photos.app.goo.gl/1otMwG4totvNbGo88 It's kept cool with a heatsink, and fan (30-35c). Currently, I'm running the orange pi supplied version of openwrt. It's a snapshot version, so the kernel isn't compatible with some packages. My question then is, is there a script out there that can transform armbian into a router, with a firewall, web interface, and easy to use? I'd like to give it a try if such a thing exists.
