Hello everyone. I'm using the latest version of armbian for the NanoPi R2S. I noticed that the board has 4 exposed GPIO ports on the board. I'm interested in using the RX1 and TX1 and use it for the UART interface. It seems I cannot use it. It might be disabled by default. Can somebody confirm or not if UART1 is enabled by default and if not what should I do to enable it ? Thanks Guillaume

I have a NanoPi R2S Plus. If I boot the FriendlyElec Debian image both network ports work: LAN and WAN. If I boot the Armbian NanoPi R2S image, it boots OK and the LAN port works but the WAN port does not work. I believe the WAN port does not work because the NanoPi R2S has an RTL8211E chip but the NanoPi R2S Plus has an RTL8211F chip. I found some notes about problems with network on other boards that had the same change of chip (e.g. radxa RockpiE) and the device tree changes required to accommodate the new chip. So I tried to patch armbian/build to make the same changes for the NanoPi R2S Plus. I am not familiar with armbian/build or…

Hi, I have read the topic about emmc backuping, thank to @martinayootte . Now, how do I restore from backup? New Nano Pi has booted. SD/USB card with backup image is attached. Must I simply use dd form "if" to emmc? Is it correct? Emmc contains image that is being run now, and as far as I know, some files are locked? Does it matter? Brgs, Aleksei Mikutskiy

I can't find bionic images for NanoPI R2S/R4S , is there any place I can find them ? Thanks.

I tried to create encrypted home folders on my NanoPi R4S but for some reason the password prompt does not show up in serial console. It just times out and therefore fails. I assume that the prompt is not properly pointed to the serial console but the board's console is clearly set to serial. Tried to simply connect an USB keyboard and when the boot at the serial console pauses to enter the password this way but no idea if it has been recognized because it made no difference. Keyboard itself worked though, system rebooted on CTRL+ALT+DEL. Tried a few things like making the code { font-family: Consolas,"courier new"; color: crimson; backgr…

I'd like some help please. The ethernet device naming seems inconsistent and sometimes changes following reboots. Sometimes one interface comes up as eth0 and sometimes as eth1, and sometimes not at all. The enp1s0 interface seems to reliably come up, but not with the right config (sometimes it uses the config for enp1s0 and sometimes for eth0). I am trying to assign status IP addresses (on different networks) to each interface, but because of the unreliable bringup of the network interfaces, I can't get a config that starts up correctly and consistency on reboots or cold boots. As a test I ran the friendly-core-lite-focal from …

Greetings, Apologies for the naive question - I'm no linux expert. I've just set up the latest focal on a r4s. I can login on both the wan and the lan interfaces. On the wan side, I have address:192.168.1.2/24 gateway:192.168.1.1 and dns:1.1.1.1, on the lan side I have 192.168.0.1/24. From a server on the lan side I am able ping both of the r4s interfaces, but I am unable to ping the gateway 192.168.1.1. I am also unable to do an 'apt update' on the lan side server as it is unable to connect to ubuntu etc. I used nmtui to set up the r4s and I couldn't find any additional information on setting up packet flow between interfac…

Hi all! I just received a NanoPi R4S, and I got a 128GB microSDXC for it. I loaded the rk3399-sd-friendlywrt-21.02-20220721 image onto it using win32diskimager. I put the SD card in, plugged in a USB-C, and let it setup for a few minutes. When it seemed ready, I plugged my laptop into the LAN port and went to its page. I logged in, all looked good. After setting a password, I tried changing some of the LAN and WAN settings, and the page stopped loading. I waited, but nothing happened. As as how I couldn't give a proper shutdown command, I disconnected the power and plugged back in. The NanoPi then booted, but the Sys light k…

Hi, all. I just wrote the Armbian Ubuntu Jammy Desktop image to an SD HC card and booted up fine with it (although I can only boot if I disconnect the HDMI cable -- when boot up is finished, I can plug it in and use the desktop. That's another story, but I have the same issue with official NanoPi Ubuntu images. Next, I transferred the Armbian OS to the eMMC and indicated that I wanted both the boot and system to be on the eMMC. After transferring the rootfs and getting the Power Off prompt, I powered off, then removed the SD HC card, then attempted to boot. However, when I tried to power on again, the NanoPi went into a reboot loop. Armbian will not boot without t…

Hi! Yesterday I get my first build of a NanoPi port of pi4j (http://pi4j.com/) running. A simple test with a double color led on a NanoPi M1 works fine. Actually I am going to adapt the board specific code. Hence some questions are open. Is there a simple way to differ NanoPi Boards by SW (NanoPi M1, Neo and Air) to set the correct board? Memory size of the board The Raspberry code uses the revision string of /proc/cpuinfo to retrieve this informations. But this info is PI specific. Any idea how to get this info? Using C is not a problem - pi4j is a mix of Java and native libraries. Peter P.S: Java Example File - …

Hello there, I am using Armbian 20.11.6 Buster with Linux 4.4.213-rk3399 on a Nanopi M4V2, I have connected 3 SATA HDDs and use mdadm (for a RAID 5 Array of those drives), luks lvm and ext4 (in that order, more details below) to store my backups. `armbianmonitor -u` link: http://ix.io/2NYv Recently I have received errors in borg backup, about mismatching checksums. To confirm that this error is not a borg specific error, I wrote this little zsh script to write data and generate checksums. for ((i = 0; i < 100; i++)); do dd if=/dev/urandom bs=4M count=256 | tee $i | md5sum | sed '/^a/!s/.$/'"$i"'/' > $i.sum To be more precise…

I'll soon be adding a 4 port M4 SATA hat (Marvell 88SE9215) to a NanoPiM4V2 and was wondering if it will be supported in the current release of ARMBIAN? Or, will I need to build a new image? Ok so the title can confuse more than it really is! So basically I have a armbian distro configured as NAT where wlan0 is the internal interface and eth0 is the "pubic" interface that provides internet (this set is provided out of the box by armbian-config). My devices connect over wlan0 grabbing an IP, say 172.24.1.114 I have added a VPN to a remote network resulting in the creation of ppp0, with IP 10.10.10.12 Having these info, what I want to achieve is: * Only one IP (e.g. 172.24.1.114) has to always go towards ppp0 (that is all traffic back and forth should go to ppp0, so I can either reach machines and navigate on internet with the remote IP…

Hi there, I am quite new to Armbian (Debian), but experienced on Fedora (RedHat). I want to use national language support on my Armbian device [Orange Pi PL+]. In particular Polish (but if this post transforms into guide it will be for others too). How do I install(?) / enable (?) / rebuild (?) packages (especially GUI) to enable Polish language? With this, OPi / Armbian would be an "viable" alternative to some "STBs" (2x less price... freedom of installing packages). Fonts, keyboard (I saw only "Polish-Dvorak" which is not correct, should be "polish-programmers" - with ALT-Gr or Polish-"typewriter" which I guess is not available now), all these stuff. …

I recently bought an Odroid HC4 to use as NAS. I then installed the latest Armbian (kernel 5.10, so pretty current one) and zfs-dkms (2.0.3-1, from backports - so again should be pretty current). I can now create ZFS pools from my attached HDDs (currently just one - may mirror later). Great... except I want them encrypted and performance is BAD. Like 40 to 70MB/s when copying via Samba (depending on which cypher I create the dataset with, no compression or deduplication) and CPU pegged at 100% bad. I was honestly surprised by this, considering the S905X3 is supposed to have hardware crypto acceleration (and cryptsetup benchmark shows results more in line with …

I burned a xz compressed image of Armbian Focal onto a good SD card using BalenaEtcher as instructed on the Armbian website. I placed it into my NanoPC T4 - which currently boots from the eMMC, and held the boot button while powering on. It tried to boot - but it kept reporting there was no bootloader file and seemed to be trying to load something from the internet, not the SD card. If I dont press the boot button, it simply ignores the SD card and boots from eMMC. I reburned the SD card several times, and each time it verified fine. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

Hi. For my application it would be very advantageous to speed up the boot time of the device as much as possible. The application depends on the network, and unfortunately it seems it takes a while for the interface to establish a connection. After plugging in the device, I count that it takes about 25-30 seconds until my application starts (which is set to start on reboot by cron). However, at that time, the network is still not up, so it matters little that the application has started. It takes another 20 seconds or so until the device is reachable by the network. So total 45-50 seconds from boot. Why is this? I see in systemd-analyze t…

Hi all, I am trying to have a script running when eth0 i s up, but it seems that I don't get it. Although I followed a guide and set anything, NM is not triggering my script. So I have created my script without sh extension and called it 90-start-script in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d: logger -s "I DON'T SEE THIS" if [ "$1" == "eth0" ]; then case "$2" in up) ~/scripts/start_check.sh ;; esac fi; I gave it root ownership, execution flag, but it seems to be not working... rk3288.txtHi all, I stumbled across a board which may be of interest for one of my next projects. Here you can find a link to it, it is model JLD076 I have the board already on my desk, and as it is really well equipped with loads of interfaces, I would love to get Armbian working on it. J have attached the boot log from console to the message, it uses Uboot 2017, and seems to be based on a standard Rockchip eval board. Onboard peripherials are handled by the usual suspects: ethernet by RTL8211, WiFi by RTL8732, and some of the display links by ALC6540. eMMC is fixed on the baord, so RKUSB is needed (can be invoked by Uboot command or bu…

I'm trying to get something beyond Android on a Jide Remix Mini. Originally sold as an "Android PC", it's now unsupported by manufacturer. The configuration is not bad: Allwinner A64 SOC and my unit has 2GB of RAM and 16 GB eMMC. Unfortunately, linux-sunxi lists it as (yet) unsupported. I'm not that knowledgeable with image building, so any help would be appreciated.

Did the initial configuration, with apt-upgrade and then opened Armbian-config and selected to install OpenmediaVault (the only other things installed are SAMBA and Softether). I have owned numerous Raspberry Pi boards over the years, and I have always have ran Kodi on one of them. For years I have been wanting to upgrade my RPi 3 as it cannot play any of my H.265/HEVC videos. With all the shortages, and how old the Raspberry Pi 4 is getting, I made a rather spontaneous purchase for this Orange Pi 4 LTS board. Getting it all setup is easy enough, but of course, the video (even with H.264!) nearly maxes all 6 cores and the video is chunky as it's just doing everything without any video acceleration. Even navigating the menu seems slow and delayed. I have been scouring these forums and other sources for about 12 hours now, and I am sti…

Hello to everyone. Being new around here I figured to drop one message here first... So, i have this Radxa Rock 4D SBC and i am quite impressed with it Me being me and SBC being what it is, yada... yada, i now have this hat+ from Waveshare - it is an dual SATA to PCIe adapter. It was designed for the Raspberry pi 5 obviously but Radxa has since started putting those FPC connectors on and i really would appreciate a 24/7 NAS with a SBC footprint... Long story short, it does not work out of the box - i have no doubt the product is okay it's just the HAT fails to initiate the OS and register. It reportedly has an eprom with data o…

On the pad he had several messages about a Telegram update, one click, done. On the RockPi with Armbian instead he had messages about using an outdated version of Telegram which soon will cease functioning. No Updates offered. He installed Telegram new which worked, but after a restart he had the old versio…

Hi everyone, I have a Helios 4 running Armbian 5.68 I have set up Nextcloud, and everything is working. However, if the server is "cold" it takes several seconds for the page to load. If the server is "hot" then the page loads immediately. I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to keep the page loading at its fastest speed. I'm confident that it's not due to the hard drive going into standby. I have used the command sudo hdparm -S 0 /dev/sda To disable the hard drive going into standby mode, and confirmed that the slow loading still occurs if the hard drive is active/idle with sudo hdparm -C /dev/sda Any s…

Today I had problems copying files from my Synology NAS. Browsing the directories was fine but copying files resulted in I/O error. No errors in any logs (dmesg, /var/log/messages) The kernel is not built with rpc debugging available so I couldn't look further in to the cause. Armbian 5.26 didn't work Armbian 5.25 didn't work I Downgraded all the way back to 5.23 (kernel 4.8.4) and everything works perfectly.

Hi, I just updated my armbian current to 5.10.35 and I'm quite excited, as pwm and gpio works as with LE :) Then I tried to mount some nfs-shares from nas. Usually I only have to install nfs-common. I did that on armbian, but when I try to mount a share, I get the error message, that nfs protocol (version) is not supported. The used command work on every other system I have (desktop and rockpi). I just use 'nfs' as filesystem type - no version specified/requested. Is there something special on armbian, to have nfs support enabled?

I have an orangepi pc+ which (among other duties) exports my usb (/media/wd/Music) drive with nfs. The external usb drive (A Western Digital) automatically enters sleep mode when it is not used for a while. When I try to mount that nfs-share on another machine, I hear the drive spinning up (awakening) and the mount succeeds. But when I try to access the mount I get "ls: cannot access /opt/music: Stale file handle" I had the same drive and /etc/exports on my raspberrypi-2 but there I did not have this problem (I could hear it spinning up as well when I accessed the mount so I know it was entering sleep mode as well). So I think it is a difference in configuration…

Hi, I have a Pine 64. Latest stable kernel works fine, but after update to kernel > 5.0 I don't have network. dmesg shows the next lines: Could not attach to PHY stamac_open: Cannot attach to PHY (error -19) Tried a 100 mbit switch, even that isn't a solution. Strange thing is it has worked once a month ago. Power for the board is supplied by the Euler bus. Hi, I have a really strange situation, which I don't understand and for so - I need help to solve it. I had 2 rockpi, one with sata hat which plays the nas role and one without sata drives, which is my frontend for home cinema (connected to AVR and beamer). Last few days I had the effect that the frontend froze and after close examination it turned out that all memory was used up. Fortunately, I already had a new rockpi with 1,4Gb memory. I thought I'd just change the eMMC and go on as before. But that was probably a big mistake. The new one did not start at all with the eMMC from the 1.2Gb rockpi. That's why I thought I had to compl…

I'm trying to setup Ethernet connection on Omnima A20 - it's a cheaper stripped down version of Cubietruck (less RAM, less IO connectors, RTL8201CP 100Mbit network chip instead of 1Gbit). Hi, this is a problem that has persisted on my Orange Pi H2+ Board (running Armbian) for quite some time now. At one stage I thought I had resolved the issue, but now since an update to some unrelated software, said software no longer works. I have tracked this back to the locale settings, which, for all intents and purposes, don't exist. I have tried a variety of fixes, such as trying to set Locale using the armbian-config , but Locale remains adamantly blank. I can SSH into the board (which is where I ran the arm config program, as well as the following commands). I tried dpkg-reconfigure locales but I only get told the following: pe…

One of my students told me Armbian no longer accepts donations. Indeed, I see a 'Subscriptions' section, but no longer a Donations link. It's been a while since I looked. When 'subscribing' I guess one could uncheck the automatic renewal, but would that cause trouble for Armbian expecting continuing income? Or should one make the subscription and then cancel? I always encourage my students to support Armbian. I have no clue how many actually have, but feedback is that they would like to make a one-time donation and not a 'subscription.' I dig the subscription idea, but I think Armbian should also have a one time donation link even if it only gets …

Hi, I installed a fresh Armbian_22.05.4_Rockpi-4a_sid_edge_5.18.0 first on SD-card, then I used nand-sata-install to copy system to emmc. When all setup was finished, I shutdown the system, closed the tower and restarted again. On that restart, the network came up without inet-address. ifconfig showed eth0 and l0, but eth0 had a mac-address (not the one, I configured in armbianEnv.txt) but no ip-address.
