  4. Hi there, how to manually disable kernel updates? Orange Pi 5, Armbian 24.11.1, kernel 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx. mPCIe working ok with NVMe 512GB module. There is NO option to disable kernel updates in armbian-config -> system there's only option to ENABLE firmware updates. And login screen shows kernel updates ENABLED. 6. Hi all. I am new to Arm and Linux in general. Got me a Raspberry pi5 several days ago and was going trough different OS systems so i can settle on one final choice. Landed in the Armbian community and tested the Armbian Bookworn / Gnome distro and was amazed how smooth and good looking this is. The only problem i have is the lack of preinstalled Widevine support. I know (and also tested) that Raspberry OS does have DRM playback support trough Widevine. So it works with the latest 64bit Arm Linux Kernel, right ? So i even went and extracted the Widevine folder form the RpOS system.... Now, several days after i am clueless on how to install Widevine and make the Chcromi…

I put the latest Armbian image on the rockpi, but I'm at a loss as to how I configure the device tree to make the screen work. I have verified that the screen does work on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ while using BTT's instructions here, but those instructions don't seem to translate to Armbian. All other examples I have found seem to be specific to the SBC vendor's custom branches. This is on a 4GB NanoPi M4 v1. There are a number of files matching the spec '/etc/ssh/ssh_host_*' but they are all zero bytes, which renders the machine inaccessible by ssh. I'm pretty sure this is happening on every install, I've been troubleshooting and reinstalled several times from the latest image and ssh was not working at any time.

  43. I'm running Armbian 20.08.1 (Ubuntu) in NanoPi NEO3, and after running sbc-bench,sh benchmark, the temperature does not revert to the idle temperature for several hours until exactly 4am. The system was idle all that time, until a small CPU usage spike at 4am. That's because it rebooted at that time, maybe due to a short power failure. So what confuses me a lot is why the idle temperature will get back to around 60C only after a reboot. 11 hours of idle time would not do it, but a simple reboot would magically drop the temperature by close to 15C.

  59. Good afternoon, I have just started studying the use of embedded arm linux for single-board computers. I'm asking for help from experienced developers. I have an orange pi lite. I uploaded a prebuild minimal armbian image to the microsd card: Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.444_Orangepilite_bookworm_current_6.12.23_minimal.img.xz .After that, I installed mate desktop environment according to these instructions: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/28786-install-mate-desktop-to-minimal-image-blues/. The problem is that the processor heats up very much under load (I registered a temperature of 95 degrees celsius using armbianmonitor) and periodically turns off due to overheating.…

  60. I'm currently in the process of deciding between the Orange Pi 3B and the Raspberry Pi 4, and i'd love to hear your thoughts. I know that Raspberry Pi has a huge community and a ton of resources, which is super appealing for someone like me who's looking to learn and tinker. The support from the community is definitely a big selling point, especially since I'm just starting out. That said, l'm also considering the Orange Pi because it's much more affordable. The price difference is hard to ignore and l have heard it's a pretty solid option for DlY projects and development. Plus, l'm thinking ahead - l might want to stick with Orange Pi for future projects as well, sin…

  65. Howdy, everyone! My apologies if this answer is available elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. I'm trying to better understand Armbian's policy toward closed-source components. Discussions on closed-components often times get confusing because "component" is overloaded, so I'm separating "components" into several categories: 1. Firmware/microcode that is loaded into hardware but never executed by the operating system itself 2. Drivers that operate in kernel space (often called "binary blobs") 3. Software that runs in user space 4. Firmware for "autonomous subsystems" or "coprocessors" like the Intel Management Engine or ThreadX on the Ra…
