  1. Hi Guys, I have recently been contracted to a new project where I have moved out of my comfort zone (embedded 8-bit/32-bit uC) and have started my work on a H3 based device (currently NanoPi Neo) with Armbian. Over the course of my work I have managed to get up to speed with the basics; configuration, scripting, hardware and interfaces and device trees to a point where I can now work on the device as a proof of concept. The work that has been contributed so-far to the armbian project is impressive as is the active and knowledgeable forum - to which I hope I can contribute. One element which I cannot find an easy solution to is one of remo…

Currently on the latest version of armbian I am experiencing high background internet data usage. I am limited to a 50MB plan which works fine with other devices, but seems to not be enough for more than 10 days on this distro. I have tried disabling all periodic checks for updates, but I am still seeing high data usage. Any ideas on where these might be coming from? I can provide a wireshark PCAP if needed.

Here is my goal: Build Armbian (debian jessie) image with some packages included into it, include some web content and scripts into image, run my own script at firstboot to configure apache/mysql etc. So everything to start working out of the box after first boot. 'Upstream' the idea to ship OS images with Firefox/Iceweasel has been dropped in the meantime due to horribly low performance in favour of chromium-browser. As far as I understood that's partially related to firefox acting single threaded (while Chromium uses all CPU cores). Here's longsleep's latest config and the mostly accepted 'fix' for Chromium complaining about running insecure due to missing sandboxing is disabling exactly this. (that's Hardkernel's method to 'fix' Chromium on ODROID-C2). Users will be happy with a fast(er) browser not throwing annoying error messages at them they click away without reading them anyway and surfing the web on Pinebook wi…

For a history of F2FS discussion please use the search function: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/search/&q=f2fs Armbian fully supports F2FS partitions for a long time now but we don't provide OS images with F2FS for a couple of reasons: F2FS still doesn't support resizing so our default installation variant (ship with a minimized rootfs that gets resized on first boot automagically to the size of SD card / eMMC) wouldn't wo…

I've added new patches for OrangePi-ZeroPlus and commited them. Like for OPiPrime done yesterday, the OrangePi-ZeroPlus WiFi still not working. I don't know why yet, although is more encouraging than OPiPrime, since at least the driver comes up in "lsmod" in the OrangePi-ZeroPlus, while for the Prime it didn't. Also another issue : OrangePi-ZeroPlus has an eMMC, I was able to do "nand-install-sata", but I'm unable to boot from it, although the MMC2 DT is part of U-Boot, for some reasons, it doesn't scan it.

  32. Started by martinayotte,

Some of you probably saw that I added recently the OrangePi-Prime to the build process. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling to get the WiFi. It is even worst than the WiFi issue still present on OrangePiWin. For the OrangePi-Prime, even the DT doesn't process the WiFi entries, and the mmc1 is still "disabled" in /proc/device-tree at boot time. The strange thing is that if I load a small overlay to change the mmc1 status to "okay", the kernel start processing it. But, unfortunately, I'm seeing "sunxi-mmc 1c10000.mmc: no support for card's volts" error, although I didn't found obvious errors in vqmmc-supply setting of mmc1. I will have to dig f…

  47. From Armbian documentation (https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Allwinner_overlays/) Most in-circuit and GPIO based interfaces (SPI, I2C, I2S, …) don’t have a mechanism for detecting and identifying devices connected to the bus, so Linux kernel has to be told explicitly about the device and its configuration details. While Device Tree is a way of describing hardware configuration to the kernel, Device Tree overlays are a way for modifying the DT in order to provide the kernel and kernel drivers with details about external devices or to activate interfaces disabled by default. What do we want? We want to add Device Tree overl…

A touch of bravery got me to install mainline on my Nanopi Neo using the orangepi one dtb. It worked OK. Today I updated the system and got a nice new kernel 4.9.4 but also had bit of bother in the form of the absence of network devices. It seems there is an issue with the new sun8i-h3-nanopineo.dtb as reverting back to the orangepi one restores that capability. It's all a bit mysterious to me but I do notice that the alias "ethernet0" is absent from the nanopi dts and the configuration of ethernet further down seems quite different. I'd be quite interested in trying a new version of the dtb if someone's ahead of me with this.

But it crashed too many times, mostly during simple file editing. Then I found better IDE - CodeLite. When I wanted to debug a program, I found I have to install GDB. After several attempts, I uninstalled and re-installed GDB and this time found recommended additional component - libc6-dbg. Installing this component fixed…

I would like to do it myself or detetch some not yet done trigger file. Secondary avoid the forced account creation on first login. But to avoid the restarts and apt-get locks the plain image should not do things automatically... example on raspbian my process takes around 15minutes but installs all my required tools.

Hi I think the subject I am interested in, called Kiosk OS or computer. I like to build a computer that when you turn it on, it does only execute one or some programs that I want. how can I do that? Is it a simple thing or should I spend weeks or months to learning and doing that? (I am a newbie linux user but know the C language). Very thank you in advanced!

Hi, just build an image with 4.9.0 for my orange pi lite. I tried to incorporate the https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/blob/1b4c92e53ac2c6ff2a78ae44898e32e2f5b62902/patch/kernel/sun8i-default/linux-200-wifi-mac-fix.patchpatch for persistant mac address for wifi, but didn't work. Is there some other patch that I'm missing, since the mac is persistant in 3.4.113?

  96. I was using usb otg(microusb) as host mode in kernel 3.x. I was using this port to connect banana pi to touch&PWR in LCD. With kernel 3.x, there was no problem, but in the kernel 4.x the touch did not work. I was searching about the structure of usb port, and found out that to use micro usb as a host mode, the forth pin(sense) and the fifth pin(GND) should be connected. I checked this had been causing a touch problem by trying soldering the forth and the fifth pin of the usb otg port in banana pi, and the touch worked. Isn't there any way I can handle this situation in software-wise, not by soldering? I had also considered buying a microusb wire which has …

  97. Hello, Just returning after a little while, I cannot get ethernet working on my opi+2e with mainline kernel, direct cable connection to PC, no serial console at hand, neither HDMI output, so I had the habit of blindly booting then sshing into the box... I tried my personal config + megous repo, xenial or jessie, current armbian repo nothing coming out of eth on the PC (tcpdump -i eth0). LEDs, green solid on, red heartbeating, orange eth led blinking slowly. I then reverted back to montjoie's repo (default for dev BRANCH), for identical results. Could this be the updated u-boot (I think I saw a new version being used) ? Or is this expected to be…

After the upgrade from Armbian 5.11 to actual one, linux automatically loads the module BMP085 (I do not need it, I have my own program to support BMP180). How to block the loading of the module during restart of program? (rmmod removes temporarily only) Thank you for your help

  100. Started by dhlii,

I have worked with a BeagleBone Black which has a very nice feature. Out of the box you can connect it to a laptop via USB and it sets up a network between the BBB and the laptop. Is there some kind of equivalent to allow the USB OTG ports of these boards to be used for a PC to Device network ? I am particularly interested in the H3's
