Starting to get into the armbian image a whole lot more as I prefer the lightweight nature of it over ubuntu mate on the ODroid C2. One issue I ran into today is the armbian kernel isn't built from the current hardkernel C2 kernel image: https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/tree/odroidc2-3.14.y I'm trying to get the 3.5" LCD Shield running on there, naturally it works fine on ubuntu mate C2 image but the kernel used for the armbian build is a different fork. The specific fbtft customised version for the C2 sits under the kernel here: https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/blob/odroidc2-3.14.y/drivers/video/fbtft/flexfb.c I'm happy to rebuild the kernel fro…

I'm using an opi PC with a sandisk ultra 32GB micro SD. I've noticed that if you do a large write to the SD card (i.e. via samba) then the system becomes sluggish. Writing to a USB stick does not have the same effect on system performance. I tried changing the scheduler to CFQ (from noop) and it helped a lot. Has there been any testing on which scheduler is best? I assume noop performance will vary dependant on the SD controller? raspbian uses deadline as the default - https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=64702 Some very good info here: https://www.thomas-krenn.com/de/wiki/Linux_I/O_Scheduler

  24. Greetings, everyone I decided to try armbian for my recently acquired cubox-i4pro. Unfortunately it was missing some kernel modules that I require. No problem, it is easy enough to change the kernel configuration and recompile! Debian Jessie (main system) is even listed as a working development environment, so I thought I would test the included compile script using the instructions from the github. I had recently completed some cross-compilation (for armel, not armhf), so I manually updated the dependencies and read through instructions and looked through the script before getting started. First I compiled the kernel only with the following settings: KERNEL…

  26. Hello, once I developed my appliance based on Armbian with Kernel 3.4. And the goal of the appliance was to work as custom USB gadget. The appliance was based on sunxi_usb_udc. Now, after big delay I returned to the need of bulding a new appliance with similar functionality. As far as I understand, there is a problem with UDC module in kernel 5.x. Am I right? Can I build my custom system based on legacy (v.4.x) kernel to workaround the problem or there is a better suggestion with available information for fast startup? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I've done an experimental build of 5.0.y for my NanoPiK2. It seems that most of the current rejected patches are simply not needed anymore. The only thing I'm not sure what to do is in patch 0038-media-meson-add-v4l2-m2m-video-decoder-driver.patch. I've comment out this line since it seems that v4l2 API has changed : // .vidioc_cropcap = vdec_cropcap, If some of you are more familiar, please, give some help here. Should I proceed to the commits ?

My only reason for being here is to develop a Kubernetes platform that runs on Armbian, mesh networks, and particularly the type of devices Consumers will typically have... Is anyone else already doing this? And who else here is in the web dev space? or ops? Or has a website on something like Wordpress.com or Wix, and wants to self-host it? 46. I am trying to convert my recent experience into something more generalized, in order to improve documentation. I already split off into a new page of docs Recovery, now I would like to add a new section to that page about manually replacing u-boot. In my case, sunxi was pretty easy, but trying to generalize this it gets more complex. I am not too familiar, so I researched for a while today and I think I have some idea, but before I start writing I want to make sure I am recommending the right approach. Basically I think I will recommend in 2 parts: 1. Explain how to extract u-boot from deb package after downloading from e.…

Hi, I've built my own Ubuntu Armbian image for the NanoPi Duo so I could use Ubuntu Snaps without classic confinement (The pre-built images don't seem to have SquashFS Compiled in the kernel). The image seems to be working perfect. However I've noticed one thing which I'm not sure if it's the image or a generic armbian issue but I've noticed that every time I reboot it the mac address updates. I'm using it for a server so having it generate a new IP each time I need to reboot it for development is a bit of an issue. Is there a recommended way to set a static one or such?

  48. I know that the RaspberryPi cannot use netconsole due to the ethernet connector being driven over the USB bus, and thus not suporting polling (which is needed for netconsole). Before I go through the process of building the kernel to enable these, I thought I'd check if I am wasting my time. Is it expected that polling will work? Just to be sure i've also built armbian 24.5 images for bananapi (noticed this on a bananapi board) and rpi4b (as a well supported board) and no linux-libc-dev[...].deb was built. It seems that with the buildsystem change the files packages/armbian/mkdebian and packages/armbian/builddeb were retired (commit e98c66b, v23.11.1) which previously handled building the kernel packages and included linux-libc-dev. I created a Wheezy and Jessie image. Whenever I try extracting the Jessie image, I get a CRC error. I am using 7zip. I tried extracting the zip also using Windows Explorer (Win10) and it also runs into an error. It seems like there might be an issue with the Jessie images being created. I cleaned my output folder and created a new clean image and still run into the same problem. This is using the latest libs and creating a 4.2.3 image (the default settings in the lib config). FYI, the Wheezy image extracts without any problems. Any ideas why the Jessie image is corrupt? Thanks.

Good example here is the systemd-machine-id... some systemd units can use machine-id in place of gethostid... https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/machine-id.html It's supposed to be a unique qualifier for installation - but if this is written into the image, it's going to likely be the same for every image out there... Can always regen it on the shell - but this could also be in the first run script... $ cat /etc/machine-id \ && sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dbus/…

Even kernel based modules can not guarantee precise control of pulses for steppers. However, we can use a separate hardware module, DMA (Direct Memory Access) which provides high precision for GPIO outputs. This module can copy bytes which represent GPIO states from RAM buffer directly to GPIO with some clock based on main chip internal oscillator without using CPU's cores. Using such approach…

A bit of googling turned up a known problem with aufs as the cause, so I grabbed the patches, combined them and created a pull request https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/772 I gave the resulting kernel a fairly good work-out this evening and it seems to be working fine now.

A touch of bravery got me to install mainline on my Nanopi Neo using the orangepi one dtb. It worked OK. Today I updated the system and got a nice new kernel 4.9.4 but also had bit of bother in the form of the absence of network devices. It seems there is an issue with the new sun8i-h3-nanopineo.dtb as reverting back to the orangepi one restores that capability. It's all a bit mysterious to me but I do notice that the alias "ethernet0" is absent from the nanopi dts and the configuration of ethernet further down seems quite different. I'd be quite interested in trying a new version of the dtb if someone's ahead of me with this.

  95. Hi guys, I am running bananapi and cubietruck boards and these board are axp209 power management unit equipped (tech details about this unit: http://linux-sunxi.org/AXP209).One advantage of this unit is showing informations about actual voltage and current of power source because as you know we are surrounded with many bad cheap power sources and microusb cables and monitoring of these informations can help explain corrupted data on microsd cards or random reboots. It show informations about battery status and usb voltage and current as well if battery is connected. I am using axp209 enabled RPi-Monitor from link https://github.com/XavierBerger/RPi-Monitorand I am sur…

  96. Sorry to ask such a beginner question, but I am still learning about Armbian... When I install debian Kernels from Kernel.org myself, I find this in my source-folder of the distro which I created when unzip/tar the Kernel. But as Armbian does this in the backround for me...where is this folder ? RTLA is a new tool to use osnoise tracer and needs to be compiled from source. https://lwn.net/Articles/869563/ THX

  97. Hi folks, I've got Igor's debian stretch server image for cubietruck running, compiled sunxi kernel 4.16.0-rc1 without power management options, but can't get USB autosuspend disabled. There are a few posts regarding this issue, but they don't resolve my issue, since in the stretch system I don't have entries for /power/level or /power/control of the usb devices, it just doesn't exist. Thus I can't fix this issue setting /power/control to 'on'. /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power DOES NOT EXIST /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power/level DOES NOT EXIST /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power/control DOES NOT EXIST /sys/bus/usb/devices/$device/power/autosuspend D…

  98. I'm trying to get a clock signal of 32768 from the GPIO1 D4 pin of the rk3328 CPU, but I haven't been able to. I've tried everything, from `overlay dts` to `armbian-add-overlay`, but I can't get any output. I can set the value to 1 or 0 using the `echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio60/value` command, but the system doesn't give a clock output. Please help. Thank you in advance.

  100. Started by kotrs,

Hello, I need to use gprs modem with ppp over uart0, but something blocks the communication. The uart0 runs well over minicom, but not over ppp. When I use another uart, the ppp runs well. But I have to use uart0. The uart0 is set like debug port in u-boot and I think, that this is the reason. I don't know how to disable it. Maybe disable CONFIG_REQUIRE_SERIAL_CONSOLE in u-boot config file ? Thank you Tomas
