Description I have changed the way the patches are generated a bit. Instead of using orange-pi branch from megous tree for 6.6 kernel, I have used the following 6.6 kernel branches from megous tree a83t-suspend, af8133j, anx, audio, axp, cam, err, fixes, mbus, modem, opi3, pb, pinetab, pp, ppkb, samuel, speed, tbs-a711, ths These branches were carefully chosen to include only allwinner related patches and remove importing of most of the rockchip related patches into the allwinner kernel. This has led to decrease in the total applied patch count by 84. We now apply 407 patches instead of 491 patches as applied in 6.5 kernel, while all functionality will remain the same. …

The challenge with TinyML is to extract the maximum performance/efficiency at the lowest footprint for AI workloads on microcontroller-class hardware. The TinyML-CAM pipeline, developed by a team of machine learning researchers in Europe, demonstrates what’s possible to achieve on relatively low-end hardware with a camera. Most specifically, they managed to reach over 80 FPS image recognition on the sub-$10 ESP32-CAM board with the open-source TinyML-CAM pipeline taking just about 1KB of RAM. It should work on other MCU boards with a camera, and training does not seem complex since we are told it takes around 30 minutes to implement a customized task. The researchers note…

The AquaPing is an open-source hardware, ultra-low power acoustic water leak detector sensor based on Texas Instruments MSP430 microcontroller and a microphone that can detect leaks without having to do any plumbing, instead capturing audio for water leak detection, and it even works for leaks behind walls. All signal processing and analysis occur on the MSP430 MCU, so no audio is streamed to the cloud and eavesdropping is impossible, plus the sensor only captures high frequencies out of the range of normal conversations, so eavesdropping is not feasible, plus those higher frequencies are also said to provide highest sensitivity and reliability. AquaPing specifications: M…

Description The issue When using ./compile.sh rewrite-kernel-config and then running the menuconfig with ./compile.sh kernel-config, just exiting and saving without any manual changes, the kernel config may still change. This is because rewrite-kernel-config does force some kernel options without any additional checks e.g. for dependencies. Using the config menu with kernel-config does those checks automatically and solves all dependencies. Example: Using ./compile.sh kernel-config on linux-rockchip64-edge.config (e.g. with BOARD=nanopi-r5c), the option CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL=y is automatically selected, since it is a dependency for CONFIG_EXPERT=y, which is selected in thi…

Changes to be committed: modified: config/boards/aml-s9xx-box.tvb modified: packages/bsp/aml-s9xx-box/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf.template The aml-s9xx-box builds use the native TV Box u-boot. I've had as a todo item to figure out how to not build and include an unused u-boot. In a recent PR for a different board the opposite was being done (adding a u-boot where a board didn't previously ship one), thus I then had the info to remove it here. This also changes the generated extlinux.conf to include a fdt line by adding the boot_fdt_file to the board config file. This reduces the effort needed to manually modify the extlinux.conf. How Has This Been Tested? [x] Bui…

It’s the last day of the year and the time to look at some of the highlights of 2022, some traffic statistics from CNX Software website, and speculate on what 2023 may bring us. The semiconductors shortage continued in 2022, but things are looking brighter in 2023 with the full reopening of the world mixed with forecasts of difficult economic times that should keep the demand/supply equation in check. On the Arm processor front the biggest news of the year, at least in this corner of the Internet, was the launch of the Rockchip RK3588 octa-core Cortex-A76/A78 processor together with interesting single board computers that we’ll discuss below. Announced last year, the Amlo…

China-developed Ubuntu Kylin 20.04 is now supporting RISC-V architecture with an image for HiFive Unmatched mini-ITX motherboard, and work will be done on an unnamed Starfive SBC that should be the VisionFive board with a GPUless JH7100 dual-core RISC-V SoC or an upgraded version with JH7110 SoC featuring an Imagination IMG BXE-4-32 GPU. You may have read recent reports about China asking government entities, including state-owned enterprises (SOE), to replace foreign hardware and software within a two-year period. So that means avoiding systems based on Intel and AMD processors, so working on RISC-V open architecture makes perfect sense, since over time, Chinese manufact…

Description This script calls amixer to set various mixer volumes, by simply trying a bunch of mixer names for each sound card in the system. In practice, this meant the amixer command was called 158 times for each sound card. The overhead of all these forks and probably also amixer startup added together to produce a noticable slowdown in startup. For example on an Orange Pi PC, the script took about 6 seconds per soundcard. This was on a system with a few extra USB soundcards (6 alsa cards in total): $ time bash ./armbian-audio-config.original real 0m35.662s user 0m20.145s sys 0m15.145s This commit modifies the script to spawn amixer only once per alsa …

Description I was accidentally burned when updating my BSP package this week. I had inadvertently left some important xorg config in 01-armbian-defaults.conf, and this file was overwritten during the upgrade. I came to the conclusion that either: the comment in 01-armbian-defaults.conf should be updated to indicate to users that the file may be overwritten and should not be edited, or 01-armbian-defaults.conf should be placed in the conffiles list so that an end-user can review any potential changes to the file as part of the package upgrade process. I contend that option (2) is better, because even if a user hasn't edited this file, they should still get some notice …

Hey Karl here. The first thing I need to do is thank the manufacturer of the brand Ace Magician for sending over a unit of their AMR5 gaming mini PC to more or less play with. I did a tiny bit of benchmarking along the way. This is the last time you will see the system in this state 😀 Story time. I have been really wanting a Steam Deck. But we purchased a Nintendo Switch about a year ago and it has barely been used. As soon as my son picked it up he asked why it was so laggy and has shown very little interest in it. So that got me worried about purchasing essentially a one-trick device. There have been a couple of good attempts at a DIY Steam Deck and I wanted to experime…

German embedded systems company iesy’s ESP32 OSM-0F is an ESP32-based solder-on LGA system-on-module that complies with SGET OSM Size-0 (30x15mm) form factor, offers WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and more. The SGET Open Standard Module (OSM) standard defines four module sizes, namely Size-0 (30x15mm), Size-S (30x30mm), Size-M (45x30mm), and Size-L (45x45mm), and all the modules we’ve covered so far were powered by a Linux-capable processor. But it’s more challenging, albeit not impossible, to design a Linux-capable OSM Size-0 module, and that form factor is better suited to microcontroller-class chips like ESP32. (Technically, ESP32 can run Linux, but it’s more for sho…

Golioth have released an open-source “ESP-IDF SDK” to let ESP32 hardware connect to their Golioth Cloud, extending existing support from the existing Zephyr SDK. We previously covered the Golioth IoT development platform with a Zephyr SDK supporting nRF9160 and ESP32-C3 (officially), as well as over 100 other platforms, that aims to make it easier for hardware developers to connect things to the internet without needing to know how to use AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or the other cloud services. While in theory, it would be possible to keep using the Zephyr SDK on ESP32 hardware, the ESP-IDF framework is the main tool of Espressif Systems, and they will release new code to that ec…

Description We are using unudhcpd from pmos for usb gadget network dhcp server. But this package is not upstreamed to debian, and it's the only package we use for qcom abl that is not upstreamed, so replace it with dnsmasq. Difference between unudhcpd and dnsmasq: 1, unudhcpd is a very simple dhcp server which only provides one ip address to the client. While dnsmasq will provide different ip address on every usb gadget network connect because the mac address of usb gadget network client always changes. 2, When usbgadget network is disabled by command systemctl status usbgadget-rndis.service, dnsmasq will get stopped. Description This PR fixes EXTRAWIFI=no compilation when uwe5622 driver and rockchip64 family is involved. The error was due to the fact that uwe5622 driver has been moved in misc patch directory some time ago, but a custom patch was left into family kernel patches to adapt the driver to rockchip64 platform. EXTRAWIFI=no would not patch the kernel to include the driver, but the custom patch was still applied since it was present as kernel patch and that would cause a failure. With this PR, the custom rockchip patch has been moved into misc directory as well and it is applied selectively in code, so EXTRAWIFI=no works correctly. Also uwe5622 related patches are moved into…

Fixes to correctly create a GPT partition table with fat boot partition and ext4 rootfs partition. fix1: mkfs interprets command line parameters differently when the partition table is of GPT type. fix2: some unset parameters were imported into command lines. In case of unset they now are set empty so that no ambiguity exists as what bash does with it. fix3: mounting of the boot fs loop is helped by hints about the partition being vfat type. fix4: filling of the boot fs at the mount point had wrong reference to the boot folder to be rsync-ed.
