  1. Avaota F2 is the first SBC based on an Allwinner V861 dual-core 64-bit RISC-V SoC with 128MB on-chip DDR3 memory, support for 4K cameras, H.265 video codec, and a 1 TOPS AI accelerator. It’s an update to the earlier Avaota F1 camera board based on an Allwinner V821 SoC. The new open-source hardware F2 SBC offers several benefits, including support for both Full HD and 4K camera sensors, motor control for the PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) feature, and improved audio support through speaker (one) and microphone (two) connectors. However, the F1 also included WiFi, which the Avaota F2 lacks. Avaota F2 specifications: SoC – Allwinner V861M2-XXX CPU Dual-Core RISC-V XuanTie C907 (RV64GC…

  5. ARIES Embedded MSMP1 OSM-compatible system-in-package (SiP) based on STM32MP1 CortexA7/M4 microcontroller for Industrial and IoT applications follows the company’s MSRZG2UL and MSRZFive OSM-compatible SiPs with Renesas Arm or RISC-V microprocessor introduced a few months ago. But instead of coming in the ultra-compact 30×30 mm OSM Size S form factor, the new MSMP1 complies with the larger 45x30mm OSM Size L form factor with a total of 476 contacts to allow for more I/Os. The SiP also integrates 512 MB to 4 GB DDR3L RAM, and 4 to 64 GB eMMC flash. MSMP1 SIP specifications: SoC – STMicro STM32MP1 single or dual-core Arm Cortex-A7 processor up to 800MHz, with Arm Cortex-M4 r…

  6. Fixes to correctly create a GPT partition table with fat boot partition and ext4 rootfs partition. fix1: mkfs interprets command line parameters differently when the partition table is of GPT type. fix2: some unset parameters were imported into command lines. In case of unset they now are set empty so that no ambiguity exists as what bash does with it. fix3: mounting of the boot fs loop is helped by hints about the partition being vfat type. fix4: filling of the boot fs at the mount point had wrong reference to the boot folder to be rsync-ed. Tested on a Rock 3A board (rk3568 SoC), written to eMMC memory. OS boots, parted indicates proper OS partition and file system str…

Radxa has just unveiled the ROCK 5A single board computer (SBC) following Raspberry Pi 4 form factor and powered by a Rockchip RK3588S octa-core Cortex-A76/A55 processor coupled with up to 16GB of RAM as a way to celebrate Chinese New Year 2023. The Radxa ROCK 5A (aka ROCK5 Model A) closely follows the Raspberry Pi 4 layout, including two micro HDMI ports, a 3.5mm AV port, a microSD card, a 40-pin GPIO header, four USB ports, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The MIPI DSI connector is there too, and so is the MIPI CSI camera connector, but in a different location. Radxa also added some features such as an M.2 socket for a wireless module (since there’s none on board) and eMMC …

  14. Description I was accidentally burned when updating my BSP package this week. I had inadvertently left some important xorg config in 01-armbian-defaults.conf, and this file was overwritten during the upgrade. I came to the conclusion that either: the comment in 01-armbian-defaults.conf should be updated to indicate to users that the file may be overwritten and should not be edited, or 01-armbian-defaults.conf should be placed in the conffiles list so that an end-user can review any potential changes to the file as part of the package upgrade process. I contend that option (2) is better, because even if a user hasn't edited this file, they should still get some notice …

  48. LakeShark is open-source firmware by Samuel Reynolds (SAMS0N1TE) that turns the ESP32-P4-based LilyGO T-Display P4 into a handheld SDR scanner. Paired with an RTL-SDR Blog V3 or V4 dongle, it supports P25 Phase I trunking, analog FM/AM, POCSAG pager decoding, and 1090 MHz ADS-B reception directly on the ESP32-P4, without a PC, Raspberry Pi, or smartphone. It also includes an onboard SX1262 that supports LoRa and MeshCore applications. SDR devices like LimeSDR Micro, xSDR, UUGear’s VU GPSDR, and many others usually rely on a PC, Raspberry Pi, or smartphone for processing, but LakeShark shows that a powerful microcontroller can also handle many SDR tasks. We previously cove…

  53. We’ve written about Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs that combine Arm Cortex-A53/R5 cores and Mali-400 GPU with Ultrascale FPGA fabric several times over the course of a few years. But AMD-Xilinx also offers the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC single-chip adaptable radio platforms that support up to 7.125GHz analog bandwidth. The topic came to my attention because of an upcoming ZU49DR SoM from iWave Systems that seems to be under development but also noticed Avnet had launched a solution last year with the XRF16 Gen3 SoM featuring the same third-generation Zynq Ultrascale+ ZU49DR RFSoC with 16 RF-ADC, 16 RF-DAC channels, and 6GHz RF bandwidth. Avnet XRF16 specifications: Main chip …

  59. Description These patches fix an issue present on newer Kernels (6.1+, no idea if older kernels are affected as well), where the thermal sensors are unavailable (/sys/class/thermal is empty). By applying these patches, thermal sensors are available to use. The problem seems to be related by how Linux thermal driver drivers/thermal/thermal_of.c handles thermal zones without trips defined - if it doesn't exist, throw an error. I'm not Linux expert, but it looks like 6.1 brought some thermal driver refactoring, which might have caused this behavior. Before the patches, with logging verbosity set to 7, there's also an error present in boot log related to the sensor's init p…

  71. Description This PR is part of the big repo cleanup ✨ I tried to find references for the old toolchains. The only reference I could find that was actively using an external toolchain in meson-s4t7. There I have bumped the compiler from 7.3.1 to 7.4.1. A 2019 compiler seems like a good fit to compile a 2019 u-boot :) @viraniac Other than that, I found only this: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/560993ac7aff4aafc94c8533b8d84eda73b4d656/lib/functions/host/external-toolchains.sh#L26-L37 I have kept every torrent that is referenced in that list, apart from the first few ones which are 10+ years old now and would probably not really work well on a modern machine anyway.…

Raspberry Pi Smart Display Module is a CM5 carrier board compatible with the Intel Smart Display Module (SDM) specification, more specifically the SDM-L form factor (as opposed to the smaller SDM-S option). The Intel SDM standard has been around for years, and we first wrote it in 2018, covering the Axiomtek SDM300s (SDM-S) module. These cards are designed to be plugged into compatible digital signage displays, kiosks, point-of-sale systems, and so on. They feature a standard 98-pin PCIe edge connector with USB 3.0, HDMI 1.4/2.0, I2C/UART/SPI signalling, as well as Ethernet, HDMI, USB ports, and an M.2 expansion socket.
