  1. Description When LABEL is longer than 11 characters, mkfs.fat 4.2 (2021-01-31) will fail while mkfs.fat 4.1 (2017-01-24) will cut it. I want to split out a new function for formating filesystem. But unfortunally, there is a hook pre_prepare_partitions and prepare_partitions_custom. And bcm2711 use it for LABEL. Here is my try: hzyitc/armbian-onecloud#6c190484 The source of mkfs.fat: v4.1: https://github.com/dosfstools/dosfstools/blob/v4.1/src/mkfs.fat.c#L1500: case 'n':/* n : Volume name */ sprintf(volume_name, "%-11.11s", optarg); for (i = 0; volume_name[i] && i < 11; i++) /* don't know if here should be more strict !uppercase(label[i]) */ if (islow…

  2. If the Raspberry Pi Pico’s 2MB of QSPI flash is not quite sufficient for your needs, and you’d not quite a fan of micro USB ports, the WeAct RP2040 clone comes with up to 16MB flash and a USB Type-C port for power and programming. Another improvement is the addition of a reset button, which can be convenient for flashing UF2 firmware, and the pinout remains the mostly the same. The price is not quite as low as the original Raspberry Pi Pico, but the clone sells for an affordable $5.99 with 2MB flash, while the 16MB flash variant goes for $8.99 with shipping included in both cases. WeAct RP2040 specifications: MCU – Raspberry Pi RP2040 dual-core Cortex-M0+ microcontroller …

  8. Description Recently, I accidentally erased an SPI flash with an bootloader installed and tried to reinstall the latest bootloader. But it did not recognize the attached disks and proceeded to TFTP Boot. Only by stopping autoboot and hot-swapping the disks or reattaching did the bootloader recognize it, and I was then able to boot with the command. I investigated and found that the problem occured after U-Boot was updated to v2023.01. This issue has been resolved by applying a patch that was previously used in v2022.07. How Has This Been Tested? By compiling U-Boot from trunk (linux-u-boot-odroidhc4-current_24.2.0-trunk) for v2023.01, v2023.04, v2023.07, v2023.10 and t…

Creality Ender-3 S1 Pro is a 3D printer that can be converted into a laser engraver thanks to a choice of 1.6W, 5W, and 10W laser modules, making it in theory a space-saving machine that can print 3D objects and engrave & cut materials. The company sent me a full kit with a 10W laser module, so after looking at the 3D printer’s specifications, I’ll check the various packages, and report my experience assembling the 3D printer, and then converting it into a laser engraver in this article, before actually testing both functions in the second part of the review. 12. We’ve previously seen it’s possible to connect an eGPU to a mini PC through a PCIe x16 to M.2 NVMe adapter or a Thunderbolt 3 port, but while it’s fine to install on your desk for gaming or develop AI applications, the eGPU being larger than most mini PCs, it’s a little too big to integrate into products, and potentially inconvenient to carry around. ADLINK Pocket AI portable eGPU changes that with an NVIDIA RTX A500 GPU housed in a 106 x 72 x 25mm box that’s about the size of a typical power bank and connects to a host through a Thunderbolt 3 connector. 62. Description HDMI-rx does not properly report if it is plugged out and says that it is plugged in all the time. The cause is the following. There is an irq that is watching a gpio for 5v high. During the plugout method for the driver, the driver resets the device state. If the irq that is watching for gpio 5 volts is not disabled during this time, it triggers on a transient voltage and sets the driver to run the "High"/plugged in logic. By the time the driver reaches the high logic, the gpio is low again, which resets the cycle by re-calling the plugout method. This is probably why @efectn disabled the log in 0a0eb46 , because it's so noisy and spams the logs. I don't …

  92. I had seen the Edge Impulse development platform for machine learning on edge devices being used by several boards, but I hadn’t had an opportunity to try it out so far. So when Seeed Studio asked me whether I’d be interested to test the nRF52840-powered XIAO BLE Sense board, I thought it might be a good idea to review it with Edge Impulse as I had seen a motion/gesture recognition demo on the board. It was quite a challenge as it took me four months to complete the review from the time Seeed Studio first contacted me, mostly due to poor communications from DHL causing the first boards to go to customs’ heaven, then wasting time with some of the worse instructions I had s…

  94. Description After some experimenting I found a way to flush the journal and maintain logs in tmpfs using /run/log/journal, and only have a softlink from /var/log/journal to /var/log.hdd/journal. Additionally the cached journals are to be cleaned up when /var/log becomes too full. Some logic was needed in cases where the user decides to do Storage=volatile journal logging in /etc/systemd/journald.conf, or when the user or journald with Storage=persistent creates a /var/log/journal folder which will be moved to /var/log.hdd/journal and replaced by the softlink. I didn't find any documentation, so wasn't able to update it. Jira reference number [AR-9999] How Has This Bee…

  98. MCU boards, including the $1.5 BluePill board, have been used as cheap logic analyzers for years, notably with Sigrok open-source software. So it should come as no surprise the $4 Raspberry Pi Pico board can also be used as a logic analyzer, with one developer claiming it can deliver 100 Msps, or the performance obtained with a 1.6 GHz CPU, thanks to the PIOs from the Raspberry Pi RP2040. Hackaday reported about a Sigrok driver for the Pico last March, but the topic was brought to our attention via a post on Hackster.io about an open-source Windows program developed from scratch to transform the Raspberry Pi Pico board into a logic analyzer capable of 100 Msps. 100. Proposal to create a Community Supported config for Amlogic based TV Boxes to pickup the work that was done previously by balbes150 but is no longer supported by him. This also provides a place where development can occur within the Armbian framework since others on the internet are producing builds called Armbian that are not done from within the Armbian community. The strategy for Amlogic based TV Boxes has been to reuse the native u-boot that comes installed on the box on emmc. Through a process called 'multiboot enabling' a u-boot script is run to change the default u-boot environment to have the boot process look for a chain-loaded u-boot on either the sd card or us…
