Hi there, I've been contacted by KoVu Inc. regarding their RK3328 "SwiftBoard", which should be a great candidate for NAS applications. Any thoughts? https://www.board-db.org/news/2018/01/08/kovu-swiftboard-data-nas-single-board-computer-sata-hdmi-2-0-emmc-gbe-android-armbian-openmediavault/ P.S.: I should receive a sample of this board in the next weeks, if you're interested in further updates. Cheers!

Hi. I want to experiment building own WiFi-router so it definitely need stable Ethernet and WiFi. Next I want build something like home automation withing this board, so I think it should have a 2GB ram and A53 cores(64bit+performant). Think Sata is not important yet. Maybe way later I will try casting something to tv via WiFi(not HDMI). Of course I'm looking at OPi win plus/prime or Nanopi k2. They are very cheap, but are they of enough quality? Or I should choose something else?

  4. Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask this question (if not, or if there are better places please let me know) I am looking for a very compact single board computer(SBC), that has at least two usb hosts, a low power consumption and ideally a thin form factor. I want to run to make a usb2.0 scientific camera wireless using a virtual usb server (https://www.virtualhere.com) which will compress (LZ4) and transmit the information via wifi. I have measured the usb data rate, it is about 23.5 megabytes/second. Thus, a wifi-ac dongle, connected to the SBC should be adequate for this purpose. Since I do not want the camera to share the USB host with the wi…

Actually I'm looking for board which is good for Home Media Server with support for transcoding 1080p(4k? if any can) with good fps (24+) Already tried rpi3 results are not that good as i want 13fps for 720p x264 Hi10 5Mb/s bitrate=> 720p x264 5Mb/s bitrate So i think 1080p will be much slower. 8. I just released my multi-system game emulator (GameBoy+NES+GameGear for now). Optimized for directly outputting to SPI LCD displays (e.g. ili9341). Runs on any CPU type, but has optimizations for ARM+X64. I wrote 100% of the code, so it might be behave differently than other game emulators. GB+GG are nearly perfect. NES is missing some popular mappers. The code is very optimized to begin with, but also uses a dirty-tile system to minimize the data sent to the SPI bus. This allows inexpensive SPI displays (e.g. ili9341) to run at or near 60 frames per second for many games even though the SPI bus can only do 30FPS of full screen updates. https://github.com/bitbank2/sg_fre…

  9. I just released a new library to act as a DNS filter. This differs from pi-hole in that it runs as a user-level program and doesn't depend on dnsmasq. This allows you to run it on a machine without changing your network configuration. It hasn't been rigorously tested, but appears to work properly. It can either proxy the packets to a trusted DNS server or spoof the return address using RAW sockets to route the response back to the requestor. It can fool web pages (like CNN) as it blocks ads and replaces dynamic ad script requests with innocuous javascript responses. https://github.com/bitbank2/bb-hole

I'm looking for current and upcoming PXE bootable SBCs. I guess if it has uboot on a SPI chip (like ROCK64, PINE64, espressobin, opi r1 ...) this is already a good indicator that it will support PXE boot. But I'm not 100% sure if PXE will really work, it seems to be rarely used for such boards. The only board I know which does not have uboot but can boot via PXE is the rpi 3. Maybe there are other ones. Some other boards like the nanopi duo could boot via a SPI chip attached to the respective GPIO pins. Maybe someone here knows other boards with PXE boot support or has tested it already?

Was about to order the Orange Pi Zero H3 when I realize it has major heat issues which would make it unsuitable for such a usage. What SBC should I use that will ideally: 1) Be really small 2) Doesn't overheat in a small container 3) Has support for gaming emulation

Nice! nmtui -> "Activate a connection", then select the Wifi network you want to connect to, fill out the password, and you're done. After configuring, the settings appear in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ Only after finding 'nmtui', I found this page https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/#how-to-connect-to-wireless Hope this helps others.

This may be useful to some of you. I wrote some C code to talk to those common 2x16 LCD displays that are available in various colors from various vendors. My purpose in writing the code was to learn about the device and help document it better for other people to have an easier time using it. In my search for info, I only found poorly documented Python and Arduino code, so I thought I would write a C version and make it easy to read. You can find the code here: https://github.com/bitbank2/LCD1602

  19. Wanted to automate payroll. Needed to be as simple/easy on the eyes as possible for your run of the mill user. General functionality is that it makes digital timecards for every employee action/swipe of an RFID tag. Every swipe also punches a Google Sheet based on company department, by utilizing regex to find column associated with employee name, then the row based on today's date. It then punches current military time to corresponding clock in/out offset. The timecard math is all done using the Google spreadsheet functions to discern overtime, total hours, etc... More will be included later to automate even the spreadsheet template even though copy/pasting once every…

Somewhere I read that this coud be accomplished via udev but I also read that /sys is not affected by udev (only /dev). I'm augmenting my iBook G3 with my pcDuino3 Nano to act as a wireless gateway and host for a development toolchain. It's working fine so far and once I'm done it will be completely powered by the FireWire port The only downsides are that it is a bit big and at idle it's taking ~250mA which I'm going to have to play with at some point and see if I can get it down any more.

Hello, I am looking for one board in order to build one NAS. I already have one bananapi pro, I am happy with it, the hardware used to be quite better than raspi boards, but it does not seem to still be marketed. It is just a matter of plugging a 2.5" hard drive on it (usb or sata). So the board would require : - be cheap - credit card format - not interested in video performances - the usb and ethernet not built on the same bus (this is why I say bananapi pro is way better than raspi boards) - can be cooled silently - one sata port - good support from armbian (not talking about video) …

At a first glance NanoPi Duo looks like a combination of Lichee Pi Zero (form, idea) and Orange Pi Zero (ingredients: H2+ and XR819 Wi-Fi). But once combined with the Mini Shield (RPi form factor -- connector and mounting hole positions), USB hub to provide 4 USB2 ports, Fast Ethernet exposed and a short mSATA slot behind a JMS567 USB-to-SATA bridge) it starts to get interesting. Armbian gives the name according to the following scheme: "wlx<MAC-ADDRESS>"! It is very uncomfortable! How I can persuade him to give names according to the traditional scheme? 76. Hello everyone! I am here to ask for knowledgeable suggestion: I am looking for a possibly armbian supported board capable of hardware transcoding a single 1920x1080 hdmi source at 15 fps. Source is coming from a usb UVC video grabber in raw yuv422 format. Hard requirements is to produce a rtsp stream at original resolution/framerate of the source. Soft requirements is to have also an HTML5 embeddable stream to use in a web application without needing a plugin. Tipically, this would be a MP4 (h.264 codec) and a webm (V8 codec) streams (possibly both to ensure best browser compatibility). This would be used for monitoring purposes by the user, so 5fps…

  79. Tinkering with API's is fun. Always wanted to allocate the scripts and tools made over time and allow quick access to the data they can provide. Never liked the idea of leaving a power hungry Desktop running to have access to it and am too paranoid to leave any SBC (FTP/WebServer) connected to the World Wild West for too long. As seen with the Mirai Botnet/DYN attacks. So my answer was to have something low power (SBC and armbian) that was at least 'secure enough' for me to let it interface with the world. So this was made: https://github.com/BiTinerary/PersonalAPI In a nutshell this is how it works: Scripts on an OPi Zero that make API calls, scrape web da…

People ask for functionality which is not around because of bad hardware, people aspect certain things from Armbian which are not possible, people expect “out of the box” solutions, no feedback from users, etc., etc. I personally think this is getting more and more a problem. The risk is that key Armbian developers get frustrated and not motivated to continue their absolute fantastic contribution to the development of “THE NUMBER ONE OS” for SoC Arm boards! The average buyer of this board thinks of the R2 being an upgrade of BPi-R1 (also known as Lamobo R1) and will also think that software support situation will be the same (trusting in Armbian, Bananian and OpenWRT here). R2 is NOT an upgrade, it's just an entirely different device using an MediaTek MT7623N SoC instead of an Allwinner chip as all the other boards of this vendor. I'm also looking at NBD, because it is supposedly lower overhead than iSCSI. Is anyone currently using NBD on their SBC? I've heard NBD doesn't handle connectivity issues as well as iSCSI, so it's not wise to use for data you care about. However, providers such as Scaleway are using NBD as the rootfs for their ARM servers (not saying this is good or bad, just saying it). I am thinking specifically of having the SBC be the client, not the server. However anyone who can pr…
