  5. Hi all. Not sure if it is me not understanding (may well be! built my last kernels in 1997 I think...) or a flaw in this patch: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/patch/kernel/sunxi-dev/general-sunxi-overlays.patch which is supposed to fix this bug if I understand correctly: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/1663 Looking at the patch file in my built tree: build/patch/kernel/sunxi-dev/general-sunxi-overlays.patch To my understanding it contains the (re)addition of dts files for sun7i-a20-spi{0..2}, i.e. as of line 3456 it addes the spi0.dts source. 6. Hi, I want a clean Armbian image for BPi without systemd. I pulled the actual Armbian 5.02, elected jessie and vanilla/next kernel (4.4.2) and checked SYSTEMD settings: gerd@development ~/projekte/armbian/lib (git)-[master] % find ./ -type f -exec grep -H SYSTEMD {} \; ./configuration.sh: SYSTEMD="no" # Enable or disable systemd on Jessie in debootstrap process but systemd is still active in the created image. I made some changes in the build scripts and wanted to ask if some of you may find them useful... ability to use custom skel folder in /userpatches directory support for xdm display manager (with graphical keyboard) selectable display manager in expert mode (lightdm, xdm or nodm) Especially the custom skel folder gives much more flexability for modders to generate images for wip or scs boards. Hello guys I have a question regarding H3 overlays. I see that during build "overlay" folder is created in arch/arm/boot/dts and H3 overlays are copied there. Can you point, please, where build framework takes those file from and how to customize this ? The goal here is to add an extra overlay. I see that the structure is very similar to https://github.com/armbian/sunxi-DT-overlays but I can't find in build scripts if you copy files from there or any other repository. Thanks.

Looking at this: https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/925b8592220a590b09215f08d3f06de6b8fe238d First, I would put most of the dependencies in "Recommends" and "Suggests" sections, otherwise people will be unable to remove non-essential packages they don't want. Second, I would put something like "nodm | lightdm" so you could switch the login manager without breaking things. And third, since we are discussing the desktop packages, personally I think that lightdm login dark theme looks relatively ugly (mostly you can't see element borders for user switcher dropdown menu, it's hard to read a dark font on a dark background, etc.) so mayb…

Why do I want the source code? Well I am working with an Allwinner H5 board (Orange Pi PC 2), getting a RTOS to run on it, and want to study some of the device drives. I have found the Armbian sources for the H3 quite valuable in this way. So I spent the bulk of the afternoon and got nowhere. My desktop is a Fedora System. I don't want to install VirtualBox again (which is what I did several years ago in order to get the H3 sources). I tried the Docker thing, but Fedora 32 and Docker don't work together. Today I did build the image for stretch (for M2 Ultra) - but it was a bit strange - because it ended up in a 1.1GB .image file, but the compressed size was only 1.5MB OK, before building the image I got only 6GB free on my virtual HDD - by the last images this did work.... Now I will reinstall my build-system with the double size (60GB against 30GB before) and then I will firstly try to create a xenial image (not stretch which give me the compressed 1.50MB image whcih doesnt boot )

What is the difference to the Banana Pi? You still support Banana Pi. Thanks. Steffen

  28. Hi, I tried to use the Legacy 3.4.113 but when it loads the kernel the Cubieboard2 shows a weird scrambeled picture on the Monitor and just shuts down. So I decided to build the kernel from source. I'm pretty new to Armbian, and the compile script is a lot of different. I built the kernel using the compile.sh script for Cubieborad2. I installed the Mainline 4.9.7 Armbian on Cubieboard2. My question is how to install the built kernel (3.x) on the existing system, as if I try to install the debs I get that I can't install over existing firmware and u-boot (even with force-install)? Thanks!

Hello First issue: With the 5.4.18-sunxi64 kernel when you select in Armbian-config to install kernel headers it installs the wrong version, it install kernel headers for 5.3 something instead of the 5.4.18. The way that I was able to work is by compiling the 5.4.18-sunxi64 Linux version including the Kernel headers. I have attached it here. Second issue: When "make scripts" and make modules_prepare instead of link to the 5.4.18-sunxi64 it creates a link for modules in 5.4.18 which makes the modules useless, since it doesnt go to the correct /lib/modules library. instead that the modules will be installed in lib/modules/5.…

Greetings. Can I make sure I've understood this correctly. I want to ensure kernel sources always come from a local development directory. In my /userpatches I've got a lib.config which has: KERNELDIR="/home/user/sources/linux-sun8i" with both KERNELSOURCE and KERNELBRANCH commented out. Is this the right thing to do? And just so I can get all my idiot points at once: Specifying KERNELSOURCE and/or KERNELBRANCH will anchor the source repo and branch to whatever I wish? TAIA Jerry. P.S. Armbian *awesome* for super quick experiments/deployments.

  40. I have machines available at work, but I loose quite a big amount of time fighting with proxy issues. I also have VM available with proxy almost correctly configured (some protocols/ports don't work, like for adding gpg key), but the disks aren't big enough. 50. Probably the easiest and fastest way to set up an Ubuntu Xenial build environment (needed by the armbian build scripts) is using a chroot jail. This thread should be a quick copy paste "tutorial" to create your own chroot jail and on an Debian based linux installation. 1.) Install debootstrap $ sudo apt install debootstrap 2.) Chreate chroot jail using debootstrap $ sudo debootstrap --variant=buildd --arch=amd64 xenial ./system/ http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ 3.) Mount your local system into the chroot $ for f in dev dev/pts proc sys ; do sudo mount -o bind /$f ./system/$f ; done 4.) Mount resolv.conf from host system into…

When performing a build using this key (last commit, MASTER branch) I get an error. Is this a local error in my build environment, or are others observing similar behavior ? Pre-build without CLEAN_LEVEL="" passes without errors. The error occurs during a subsequent build with saving (using) already buils packages.

I ran git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/armbian/build The problem is, in my customize-image.sh script I'm trying to build something that needs to have a package installed before. 54. I'm attempting to build an image for the ROC-RK3328-CC (Renegade) with cryptroot encryption (and SSH unlock) enabled, but I run into weird behavior. The board will start and I can SSH in and reach the BusyBox prompt. So far so good but from what I've gathered I should enter the command "unlock" there to display the cryptroot password prompt. However it only results in the message -sh: unlock: not found. I read somewhere else the command might be "cryptroot-unlock" but that instead gives nothing, not even the error message. Furthermore, regardless whether I enter any commands, around 10 seconds into the SSH session it will freeze and I eventually ge…

Hi, since a Geekbox (Rockchip RK3368) and two Pine64+ (Allwinner A64) are collecting dust and at least for the latter longsleep already prepared a nice image build process that makes including a 'foreign' rootfs quite easy I thought about supporting arm64 also and not just only armhf. But I still lack oversights over our own build process or don't know in which direction other devs will move (I saw zador rearranging stuff the last days) so I thought I better ask first instead of hacking around I thought about adding a global variable defaulting to "armhf" and setting it to "arm64" for the new boards in configuration.sh since we later have to call make ARCH=…

But now kernel is 4.9.4 and Ethernet not works (no interface eth0, ifconfig -a not shows eth0, only Loopback). There was also renewed Armbian framework. How do I get to work Etnernet on NanoPi Neo after last change Armbian framework and Kernel?

It should give color signals durring this initial setup, and then show system parameters (especially the DHCP-Address) on the oled screen *without* having a keyboard and HDMI-Display c…

  61. Armbian CI is building v5.10.43 while my local build is making v5.10.45. How can I switch? I've tried all sorts of iterations of KERNELRELEASE= BRANCH= and LIB_TAG= in userpatches/config-example.conf but can't find the right combination to build a v5.10.43 kernel with RELEASE=focal What's the correct build env var and value needed to match Armbian's CI?

Today i wanted to try some changes an build a new kernel for my H3 PCPlus. When I executed compile.sh i got a Message that the script was outdated. So i copied a newer Version from lib to my root directory. I made thechanges i did before: Set KERNEL_Configure to "yes" and set DEST_LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" (that was the only way to get a clean translated german Desktop before..) Now I get a warning Message: [ warn ] Can't update since you made changes to: compile.sh When I hit Enter the next thing happens: The Toolchan is downloaded every time. Is this really necessary? I have only a volume based Internet connection... Regards

Hello guys I need instructions on how to skip mandatory steps during first load when Armbian requires to login as root and use password 1234. What I need is to have pi account created automatically during sd-image build (with a custom password) and assigned a predefined set of groups. I want Armbian start and auto-login with pi account and run my linuxfb-based full-screen application. It seems like customize-image.sh is the right place to create a new account on target image. But how can I disable that startup poll to create a new user, change password, etc? Thanks

Hello, guys, I got a third-party source code for a GPU kernel module, compatible with mainline. I need to build & install it during the Armbian build procedure. I know what to do when "Full image" is selected in configuration , i.e. I can use customize-image-host.sh. Is there any good way to build it when "Kernel only" mode is selected ? Thanks
