  1. I have a rev 1.4 Orange Pi Zero that overheats. I've confirmed this by touch and know it's a known problem. On the legacy kernel, setting CPU to 800 Mhz and RAM to 300 Mhz used to keep things cool. (e.g. "sudo h3consumption -m 800"). h3consumption doesn't exist on 4.14 kernels, so how do I underclock?

  2. Hi all, first of all, I really like the dev-tools! I successfully developed my own Image (incl. patches etc.) and it's running great. But now I want to "burn" it to the Orange Pi's emmc directly, without using nand-sata-install ... it's necessary, because the target-image does not allow shell- and/or ssh-access (for purpose). So I flashed a "normal" armbian-image to my sd-card, copied my own image-file to the card, booted the card and wanted to 'dd' my image to /dev/mmcblk1. Everything went fine till now ... after rebooting w/o the sd-card plugged in, the loader hangs in a loop (Rebooting within 10 seconds) :/ I looked into the nand-sata-install-sc…

  4. The problem I have an USB endoscope camera that works fine with my Orange Pi lite's normal USB port. However I need both USB port for other devices, so I want to connect this same USB camera, which was orginally marketed as USB otg camera for android phones, using Opi lite's micro usb otg connector. What have I tried - In armbian-config menu, I have enabled usbhost0. I believe this overlay is for the usb otg port, but just to be sure I also enabled usbhost1, usbhost2 and usbhost3. - Using dtc I decompiled sun8i-h3-orangepi-lite.dtb into sun8i-h3-orangepi-lite.dtc. - In this dtc file, I looked up musb, and changed status = "disabled" to "o…

Is there any other firmware for the AP6255 available, besides the one made available for Khadas VIM at https://github.com/khadas/android_hardware_amlogic_wifi/tree/Vim/bcm_ampak/config/6255/BT or the one for the Raspberry Pi 3+ available e.g. at https://github.com/OpenELEC/misc-firmware/blob/master/firmware/brcm/BCM43430A1.hcd which uses also the same chipset? Hi all, I need to enable rts/cts on my OrangePi Zero with Armbian buster with Linux 5.4.26-sunxi installed. I added the "param_uart2_rtscts=1" (I'm using /dev/ttyS2) to the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file On mi code I use this initialization of the port. xxxxx.c_cflag |= port_parity | port_bits | port_stop | CLOCAL | CRTSCTS | CREAD; Not only rts/cts but also the tx and rx pin aren't working now. Has anyone managed to enable the port on this board? Am I doing something wrong?

  9. Hi, I just started to fiddle around with my Cubietruck (since I exchanged it with a Banana Pi for productive stuff). I had to realize that /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ is missing and that cpufreq-info outputs "no or unknown cpufreq driver is active on this CPU" correctly. Anyone else seeing this behaviour? Cpufreq support should be back with 4.0? Based on a sysbench run ("sysbench --test=cpu --cpu-max-prime=5000 run --num-threads=2" -- takes 58 seconds) I would suppose it's running not even at 960 MHz (since 960 should finish in less than 54 seconds). I did some iperf tests (not that promising, just 600/650 Mbits/sec) and iozone with my usual test…

  10. Dear forum, When looking at the Orange Pi Zero schematic V1.1, the OSC-RTC box is empty. Does this mean that there is no crystal for the internal RTC? The internal RTC cannot be used at all? When just checking the time register, the RTC is running too fast. Thanks, Arjan

It seems like all the OS available for the A64 (for me specifically the orangepi winplus) are using the 3.10 kernel that has reached the EOL. I have been advised against using this kernel but I don't see any other options. I did find and armbian for the winplus that used 4.11 but it crumbled after upgrade every time. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks

  13. Hi, After running the default image with legacy kernel for a few weeks, I am now trying the run a fresh SD card with the latest build of the mainline image. However, the MAC address of my device appears to be changing after each reboot - and I am running about of ideas to fix this issue. What I've tried so far: - Edit script.bin & add MAC address in the [dynamic] section - Edit armbianEnv.txt - Define an address in /etc/network/interfaces So far, I have not been able to solve the problem. Your help is much appreciated. Any suggestions on possible fixes for the issue?

  14. Hi enthusiast, Last few year I used Armbian 5.25, which allow me to echo cpufreq into /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_***_freq to choose the overclock freq. However, last week, I had to disconnect the power and the Banana Pi didn't boot again. So I decided to install a fresh updated version of Armbian, which is called Bionic. 21. Hello, First I would like to thank Igor for his amazing work on Armbian! I know that the Lamobo/BPI R1 is very problematic with power and SATA, but when I installed Armbian 5.1 jessie with the legacy kernel, it seems that the SATA is working fine. But when I tried the same Armbian 5.1 with vanilla kernel it wasn't able to boot and the hard drive made knocking noises. Just to make sure, I disconnected the HD and it booted fine. I think that this is a software problem (maybe uboot?) because as I mentioned it works with the older kernel. I tried installing the uboot package bananapro-next as Igor adviced someone with a banana pro but it didn't help. I'm using a good…

  30. Hi there! I've just compiled from armbian buil tools a new image for Orange Pi 3 LTS. Then flash it on sdcard, anything was well, but armbian doesn't start at all. Nothing on the HDMI, nothing on the debug serial. Also LED doesn't light. I've tried two images: ubuntu jammy with GNOME and next case XFCE. Both cases didn't work. I've downloaded prebuilt image from armbian.org and it starts well. In my opinion, some problem with custom images in u-boot. but I don't know how to give a diagnosis.

  44. Hi (and happy new year everyone!), I recently put a SSD in my Cubietruck and installed the Cubietruck Vanilla Image (with Kernel 4.x) on it. This is working fine, but what bugs me is the fact that I still need to have a microSD-card installed. As far as I understood, the bootloader cannot directly boot to SATA (missing drivers). How does the bare Image on the microSD-card achieve this? And even more important: How can I move the 'important' part (which does the bootloading and SATA drivers) to NAND so I can boot without a microSD-card installed? Thanks in advance!

  47. Hi all, First, thanks to Igor for his job with Armbian: Scripts, compilations etc. Very apprecied so far. I own an Orange Pi 1 based on A20 SoC. Armbian kernel 4.4.1 is installed, no problem. (I have used the Igor's script to upgrade it) But I'm trying to change the bin file in /boot/bin, it seems to not work, no change if I set screen0_output_mode = 5 In orangepi.fex Of course, I'm using the bin2fex & fex2bin exec on my desktop (Kubuntu 16.04 x64), and I copy the new bin file in /boot/bin/orangepi.bin The goal is to change the first resolution, because I would like to solve this problem (see the photo, the display exceeds) on my DIY tablet. …

  48. Below are supplementary quotes helpful to asking the question: can CPU presets be made into a desktop shortcut that could allow pre-defined CPU freq settings whether onthe fly or even reboot required? Is so, what would the code be? That's the question I can't answer. I ask because of the two Beelink X2s (one each of Armbian flavors); I'd like to get a hands-on feel for how high the temps can be expected to go. I probably won't be running hot for long, but then again I just received a bag of heat sinks and can also drill holes in the plastic box for better air circulation. QUOTE 1 for reference: Some boards allow to adjust CPU speed. nano…

  50. (Edit: it's a red herring for me to worry about swap. Please see a few posts down...) Hello. My NanoPi Neo 2 only has 512MB RAM. I'm using it for OpenMediaVault. It starts swapping very badly (totally paralysing it) when I FTP 60GB worth of tiny files into an attached 500GB SSD SATA drive (attached with the NAS kit). Yes, ProFTPd is RAM-hungry! I know how to create and work with traditional linux swap files. I'm a noob to this whole zram thing, which I suspect is more trouble than it's worth. I would prefer to not use zram, and use a traditional swap file on an attached 6TB 3.5" SATA drive (attached over USB 2.0 with UAS). It's a backup dri…

  53. I bought an Orange Pi PC "Set 9" that came with ribbon camera module (total 20 eur) to compare with Raspberry 3. After finally getting it to take a picture using fswebcam I find the images very low quality. Most passable without any extra lighting is 640x480. 800x600 and 1600x1200 produce nearly black images. Using Raspberry 3 with similarly priced chinese camera produce much better images with lower lighting. Am I missing something or is the camera quality this bad in comparison? I usually expect OK results from "chinese clones" but this is really. The best image I could get was: sudo fswebcam -r 640x480 --fps 25 -p YUV420P cam.jpg

  56. Hi all, I am hoping there is a straight forward solution to this; I've read this thread on turning on and off the usb OTG using GPIO commands: The concept is really clever and I was hoping to use it as part of my Octoprint 3D printing setup so that I can turn off printer when not in use. The only catch is that the method requires modifying the ./bin/orangepione.bin file which isn't present on my version of Armbian (Buster). TL;DR according to the post I need to 1. convert ./bin/orangepione.bin to FEX, 2. edit the file by adding "usb_drv_vbus_gpio = port:PL02<1><0><default><0>", 3. convert …

are the 1-wire modules built into legacy kernel ( 3.4.xx ) with debian jesse on an Olimex A20 LIME2 ( also the -SOM-4GB ) ? To use 1-Wire for DS18b20 temperature sensors on GPIO5 (from my fex file : gpio_pin_5 = port:PG04<0><default><default><default>) I added [w1_para] w1_used = 1 gpio = 5 to the aw_som_a20.fex file but I don't see any 1-wire modules or drivers loaded. I then used fex2bin ( in windows) to get the .bin file, copied it over and replaced the symlink from script.bin that was pointing to lime2.bin to point to my SSM_som.bin ( I changed the name of the edited one to my board name : SSM_som) Would I need to recompile the kernel t…

  59. According to http://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-pc-plus/ If I understand correctly, the only difference is that PC+ has additional eMMC and WiFi. So a system with vanilla kernel for Opi PC+ should also work on the PC. Or are there other hardware differences? The page states: "serial console only, no HDMI." Does this vanilla system support Ethernet yet, so one can login via ssh after installation? My targeted use would be a tvheadend server (without local video for the moment).

  65. Started by Occhioverde,

Hi there! I just received three decommissioned BananaPI M1+ from a company and I'm trying to install the latest version of Armbian Buster available on them. Once I flash the image to the SD card (tested and working fine), however, the board goes into boot loop as per the video. The only error that seems to be displayed is "EHCI failed to shut down host controller". If it can be useful to find the cause, I point out that the problem occurs with both Armbian Buster and Armbian Focal regardless of the presence of the "fdtfile=sun7i-a20-bananapi-m1-plus.dtb" line in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file. What do you think I could do to solve it? Thank you all in advance.

  94. Hello! PWM seems to work without any configuration on the factory images with the gpio command, but I cant seem to get it to work on armbian. There doesn't seem to be any dtbs related to pwm, and /sys/class/pwm is empty on armbian. Anyone got this to work? EDIT: Forgot to add, doesnt seem to be any pwm overlays present on armbian install

  95. Hello. I remodel my Philips TV 32PFL4258T in a media center. The motherboard burned to the TV. There is no point in buying a new one. He had not worked very well before that. I installed universal scaler Z.VST.3463.A1. I bought myself Orange Pi One and installed Arbian 5.30. But when you start the browser and the video on YouTube, after 5 minutes, the promo starts to buggy and hang. The processor temperature is 55 degrees. According to the SSH, a 1% swap file is written. I think then, when viewing the memory, it eats much more and faster. Kodi also works. If you do not watch movies and programs nimble. As soon as you turn on the film everything is badly hangi…

  96. Hello! I try to turn on usb gadget mode on my OPi. For example g_ethernet, or g_midi. Read many posts, but still don't understand what I should do. Is it possible to turn on gadget mode without compiling my own armbian? Also, I had found on this forum info that legacy roms already have OTG support from the box. Is it true? May be somebody knows tutorials of how to turn on usb gadget mode?

    For /etc/update-motd.d/30-sysinfo I noticed it likes to say my system is up 6 seconds and then when I check with uptime I notice it's wrong and has been up for hours or over a day. Just curious if there is a reason for not doing it in a way similar to this? function displaytime { # we need dedicated function local X=$(/usr/bin/uptime -p) printf "Up time: " printf "\x1B[92m%s\x1B[0m\t\t" "$X" }

  98. So I just received a couple of Orange Pi Zeros. I thought for a fun first project I'd port the pi-hole project. The Pi-Hole project creates a black hole / dns server for your home network that filters out lots of extraneous advertising. Its a pretty nice project. Reference: https://pi-hole.net/and https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole I ended up using a semi automatic install for pi-hole: git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole.git Pi-hole cd Pi-hole/automated_installer/ bash basic-install.sh There was one hiccup. The admin page for the pi-hole (run on your local network) in the browser includes a header that conveniently shows CPU temperatur…

Hi, Please see my comments in the other thread: Essentially when booting a Neo Core using the current air/core mainline image, the onboard fast ethernet is not being initialised. At a guess its because this is not included in the device tree (dtb/dts) for the nano pi air image or in uBoot config - however, if the image is to serve both boards it almost needs to - or they need to be separated. Both are probably reasonable options. Right now i'm trying to understand where the board defs for ethernet are collected during the image build using the armbian build environment and try and get a functional image with fast ethernet for the core…

  100. Hi All, I'm trying to get usb otg enabled as host mode to add, for instance, a keyboard with a powered hub (I know otg is not delivering power or at least I don't want to drain more power with the otg) I'm using vanilla kernel 4.8.4 so I kind of expect otg enabled as host mode by default. Anyway, I get into dts and make sure this section: usb@01c13000 { compatible = "allwinner,sun4i-a10-musb"; reg = <0x1c13000 0x400>; clocks = <0x2 0x0>; interrupts = <0x0 0x26 0x4>; interrupt-names = "mc"; phys = <0x30 0x0>; phy-names = "usb"; extcon = <0x30 0x0>; allwinner, sram = <0x31 0x1>; status = "okay"; dr_mode = "host"; linux, phandle = …
