Device: A95X F1 TV Box SoC: Amlogic S905W OS: Armbian Linux Server (v6.12 and v6.18) & Desktop versions. Installation: To NAND/eMMC. The Issue: I am deploying about 10 units. The installation to NAND goes smoothly, and the system boots correctly. However, after running perfectly for a few hours, the devices crash: Video output goes to a black screen. Network is dead (No SSH, No PING). Power cycling the device does not recover the system; it remains in this "bricked" state. Recovery Method: Once the device crashes, I cannot simply reinstall Armbian. I am forced to: Flash the stock Android firmware using the USB Burning Tool. …

Hello I newly installed a community armbian image to my Alfawise H96 ProPlus TV box. All seems to be working except sshd. I found out, that is because of not existing /run/sshd directory. After creating this directory the systemctl start ssh wokrs, but until the next reboot. The image I used is Armbian_23.8.0-trunk.51_Aml-s9xx-box_lunar_edge_6.2.16.img. Thanks

I have an M8 S802 box that I am trying to install armbian to. I am using 5,44 Ubuntu bionib 3.10.108 server. I can boot with the SD card, but when I try to install to emmc I get a message saying cannot parse config file '/etc/fw_env.config' invalid argument at the end of install. After this, the TV box will only boot from SD. I tried copying the fw_env.config file from my backup of android, but I still get the same results.

Hi, I came across two similar TV boxes - "Evolveo H4 4k" and "Evolveo Q5 4k" - and found this great Armbian site! Thanks for your great work guys! I set my expectation low and tried with latest "Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0". The H4 seems to be an S905/p212 2GB/16GB (not sure whether w/ 1Gb lan) board and it boots here with selected: uboot-s905 and FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb (set in extlinux.conf) The Q5 seems to be an S905/p200 2GB/8GB board (lan w/ 1Gb) and it boots here with selected uboot-s905 and FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-p200.dtb or FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-vega-s95-telos.dtb (I added into …

Attempting Armbian install onto an S905. Hardware specs at https://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=6653-4ac9-1101-570d0033c587 Kernel begins to boot but gets errors and never completes dropping into initramfs shell. Was able to capture the dtb blob from the Android kernel and decompiled it. Enough differences to the dtb files in the Armbian distribution that I cannot figure out how to create a dtb file that will work. Have looked for other files on the internet but haven't come across something similar yet. Booting gets stuck in a loop of: meson-gx-mmc d0072000.mmc: no support for card's volts mmc0: error -22 whilst initialisin…

I am using armbian on TV box S905W. with 32gb EMMC memory. actually the free memory in my EMMC is about 24gb i.e. only 8gb. used Currently, I have an additional box of s905w with the same version but with EMMC with 16gb memory. I used emmc 32gb partition backup using dd command and extract to usb, I use gparted to reduce the partition size ( ROOT_EMMC and BOOT_EMMC) to 12gb. This is an Android TV box using the 922 chipset. Under Android, I have been using stock firmware but also recall trying that from the Ugoos AM6. I have managed to get it to boot using u-boot-s905x2-s922. I have tried several of the DTB files starting with the g12b prefix. I had initial high hopes that the one for the Ugoos would work. And it did boot all the way into the desktop (I have auto-login enabled) but the mouse would not move nor would the keyboard respond. Since then I have tried many others - still working my way through them all one-by-one. And I have found some (gtking-pro.dtb, gsking-x.dtb) that appear to work pretty "normally" (not that I am sur…

Hello, I’m working on an s905x3 Armbian system, and having issues with an intermittent watchdog: The hardware watchdog: Meson GXBB Watchdog I’ve got the watchdog service installed. Expected behaviour, happens 4/5 times: when I kill the watchdog service, it starts wd_keepalive, which keeps on pinging the watchdog. Kill wd_keepalive and after a few seconds the device power cycles, as is expected. But sometimes that doesn’t happen, and the device just continues running. The watchdog device is also then writable (which it usually isn’t, due to being kept busy by the above processes) I’ve found this because sometimes the device doesn’t power cycle after…

Thanks to this forum I had installed Armbian buster and it's been running really well and stable for 3 years. For the first time I've arrived at an issue which makes me revisit and also because I have forgotten most of the stuff. Back in the day balbes150 had a bunch of ready made images available and you picked the correct device tree after flash. Appears those links no longer work. I don't want to do a massive upgrade, just from buster to bullseye on my week play 2 box (s905h only uses 4w when running) My question is where can I get those old images again. Or a newer resource for ready made images that will work on my box.

Hi, I'm using the image Armbian_23.02.2_Aml-s9xx-box_bullseye_current_6.1.11.img on my Box TV Tigre 2 with Amlogic S905x processor and the dtb meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb and all the things I need are working, except the HDMI Audio output. Using the command "aplay -l" it shows no soundcards found but using the command lsmod | grep snd it shows different sound modules so I think it's a driver problem Also using armbian-config and going to system->hardware it shows an empty list. Any ideas on how to make it work?

Hi all, I've loaded Armbian 20.10 Arm_64 Bullseye 5.9.0 image on a X96(S912). No issues while loading the system, a prompt for login is presented, but it does not recognize any keyboard that I plugin. Tryed out via ssh but isn't possible to ping the server, so I believe ssh connection might not be automatically set. Maybe some one have an idea on how I can solve this issues. Thanks in advance.

I have an x92 box with Amlogic Meson GXM (S912). The SOC has a Mali-T820 GPU, and the box has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of eMMC. I'm running Armbian 25.11.2 noble on it. While using the Wayfire Wayland GUI, there is a lot of kernel output like this, constantly repeating: panfrost d00c0000.gpu: shader power transition timeout panfrost d00c0000.gpu: tiler power transition timeout panfrost d00c0000.gpu: l2 power transition timeout The GUI works, and hardware 3D acceleration works. But it would be nice to get this spam out of the logs, and I also wonder if there is really some problem. Like, maybe the kernel doesn't know how to change GPU voltages. May…

Hi all, I have this Amlogic S905x2 (ddr3l) android tv box which I'm trying to boot Armbian on. Firstly, I was having issue with the default bootloader always booting into android, no matter if I used the sd card or usb. So then I lifted the emmc chip, in hope that it will then choose to boot from the sd card. However, I failed to notice that BL2 is stored in the emmc, and as you guessed, I need BL2 to boot into linux. Now I've read that you can use USB burning tool to send and start BL2 from RAM. However, I've no idea what to do next and what file am I even supposed to send via the USB Burning tool. I would be very thankful …

Hello all, did any body able to login to Cinnamon version (screen shot below from here ) ? The box is A95X F3 Air first edition. For me it Bootes well and after root and user passwords are set it shows up desktop login screen and then after user login the desktop simply goes blank. On reboot again user login screen appears on the desktop but again blank screen after login. On the other hand the Armbian 24.8.0-trunk.399 Bookworm Gnome worked fine. I don't want any troubleshooting or run through logs and spend time on this but if any body faced such issue before just reply back if this happened with your box as well.

Hello, I would be grateful for some assistance on a sound issue. I installed Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0_desktop.img.xz on a YUNDOO Y6 TV Box with S905X. It worked fine, but I believe that there is no support for Armbian 20 anymore. Useful info, the sound was OK and the audio card was identified as GXL-S905X-P212. Then, I tried various versions of Armbian_23.11.1_Aml-s9xx-box_bookworm_current_6.1.63 and Armbian_23.11.1_Aml-s9xx-box_jammy_current_6.1.63. Most of them do work, but none detects the sound card. Hi all, I have some x905 boxes and I'd like to use one (an old TX95 -> x905w IIRC) as a midi sequencer with fluidsynth. I found the hard way that the default kernel has no midi sequencer support (in kernel or module) so there's no way to use aconnect and have it as a midi box. The only solution seems to be rebuild the kernel with the added module support but it's been decades since last time i rebuilt a kernel and S905 kernels (with added balbes150 mods and stuff to have it working on those cheap boxes) seems a bit too complex for me. So the question is: is there a way to get a working kernel with midi support, and how to put it in. If this was…

Hi all, I’m working with an Amlogic S805X (P241) board and I’d like to run Armbian on it, but I need a kernel 5.15 LTS build that boots reliably (especially from USB/SD). I see Armbian community builds with kernel 6.x for Amlogic TV boxes (e.g., Armbian_community_26.x), but these do not boot successfully on my P241. I previously successfully booted Armbian with kernel 5.9, but I want an image based on the 5.15 LTS kernel if possible. Is there an existing downloadable image for S805X/P241 with kernel 5.15? If not, can you share build parameters (BOARD=, BRANCH=, kernel target) to compile a minimal Armbian image with 5.15 that uses…

I have a tx3-mini 1G-ram 8G-Rom device and I installed the versions images available on the site on it. I have three questions: why does it stop working when I update the operating system? - The site of benchmark says that the s905w cpu has a speed of up to 2GHz, but my system does not speed up more than 1.2 GHz. And the last question: some of the images available on the site are installed on it, and some are not. The ones that work also stop working with the update. Of course, not with a single update, when it works for a week, you update it during the week, and from some point on, it will not boot again. This is because my device is fake?

Hi, this is my first post so please be generous. After much experimentation I have managed to to set up Armbian on an old Zidoo x5 box. I may add that neither the .zip or the toothpick method worked for me but finally got the booting sequence to run the S905 Autoscript by altering some variables using the setenv command through the serial interface. I have installed several OS's and finally settled on the 20.10 focal 5.9.0 desktop image. Most things work but I am getting problems with setting up an Access Point through the armbian-config program. I have left the default settings as proposed and was able to "see" the hot spot…

Hi all, I'm trying to boot Armbian from USB on a Foxconn BANDOTT BA101 (Amlogic S905D, 2GB RAM, 8GB eMMC — same SoC/RAM/storage as a Phicomm N1, originally shipped with Android TV 7.1.2). I'm running purely from USB, never touching eMMC. What works Armbian_24.5.0_amlogic_s905d_jammy_6.6.28_server_2024.04.25.img (ophub build) Flashed to USB with balenaEtcher Plugged into the box, powered on Boots directly with no modifications — no manual u-boot.ext, no dtb edits, no extlinux changes Network, IR, HDMI all good What doesn't work Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.821_Aml-s9xx-box_resolute_current_6.18.26.img (official community build…

I’ve been testing Armbian on an Amlogic-based TV box, and wanted to share a short user experience. The device originally runs Android, but thanks to the Amlogic S9xx platform, it can boot Armbian from an SD card without touching the internal firmware. In my case, the system booted reliably and was usable for basic tasks like SSH access, light services, and general Linux testing. Ethernet and USB worked out of the box, while Wi-Fi and power management still required some manual tweaks, which seems common for community-supported TV boxes. For reference, the hardware I used belongs to the category of Amlogic TV boxes that are widely available on the m…

I have an Amlogic s912 box, been trying to follow @balbes150 directions but it al gets confused. (from here First I tried to install an old version until I found out config. method was changed, so I downloaded a newer version. (current Debian and Ubuntu "desktop" based images) I burn them on sdcard, but there's no file "u-boot.ext" to rename. And now I have just read I need to burn both things on separate processes... It's quite confusing and misleading. It would be great if instruections were completely reworked and reordered so not to induce others on error. I'm techa savvy, I've done some programming, I own servers running Linux, I have instal…

Hello, I have a problem after update on strong leap s1, it is stuck at the android tv loading screen, I found this method (1) Mecool KD3 Stick recovery reset | XDA Forums . Basically because this box doesn't have reset button, this method is can be used to get into recovery mode from where you can factory reset the box. Problem is that it's not working for me, is there anyone with same problem ? How did you solved it, please ? Thanks

I have bought a TX60 Pro with S905L CPU, 16 GB RAM and 256 GB eMMC. I tried to run Armbian on it: wrote several images on microSD, but since it does not have a microSD reader, I plug it in in a microSD reader. Unfortunately, it does not boot from it, not even when I start it with the Reset button pressed. Is there any chance I can run Armbian on this box?

Guys, I need to build a cheap NAND reader/writer to clone few NAND chips, and I have some old android TV Boxes that I'm thinking to re-purpose for this job. It's a one time job so I don't want to buy a professional NAND programmer as they tend to be quite expensive. Do you guys think this would be possible? So, I'm thinking to boot from an sd-card or usb stick with Armbian and get access to the NAND chips that all my tv boxes have (I have some old MX-III and M8 boxes, model K200 I think, with S802 cpus and 8GB NAND). If I manage to get NAND access I can de-solder and solder other chips that I need to write from/to. Does anyone have any experience with this and ca…

Hello everyone, I have two identical-looking "arm-64" Amlogic TV boxes (S805X-based, meson-gxl-s805x-p241.dtb), both running the same Armbian image (kernel 5.9.0-arm-64 from balbes150 build). Both boxes have BCM43430 WiFi+BT combo (AP6212 module) on SDIO (mmc1). Problem: - STB 1: WiFi works perfectly (BCM43430/1 stepping) - STB 2: WiFi fails to initialize (BCM43430/2 stepping) — always ends with "HT Avail timeout (1000000): clkctl 0x50" Key dmesg from STB 1 (working): [ 7.719726] brcmfmac: F1 signature read @0x18000000=0x1541a9a6 [ 7.736079] brcmfmac: brcmf_fw_alloc_request: using brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio for chip BCM43430/1 …

Sorry - this is probably an easy one for those that know. But I am trying hard to copy my work and progress and build another NAS out of another T95z Plus box for my brother. All is going well - but on the second box - months after building the first - I installed the latest download. So I have Old box = Armbian Linux 6.12.32-current-meson64 - v25.5.1 New box = Armbian Linux 6.12.34-current-meson64 - v25.8 rolling - Support:for advanced users (rolling release) Both show - Ubuntu stable (noble) - which I think I changed on first boot with Armbian-config. Okay - so I don't think I am an advanced user so that warning has got me worried. …

Hi I am trying to breathe some life into an older generic Amlogic TV box on my workbench and am hitting a brick wall with modern mainline images. I’m looking for a copy of a legacy, community-archived Armbian image (Kernel 5.4.y, 5.10.y, or 4.19.y) tailored for the S905X / S905W (meson-gxl) architecture. The newer automated GitHub builds (6.12+ kernels) completely purge the old asset files, and modern multi-stage boot configurations (boot.scr) are being entirely bypassed by my box's legacy onboard bootloader. Hardware Specs & Current Context: SoC: Amlogic S905X / S905W variant (Generic budget clone box, likely 1GB RAM) Target DTBs I'm t…

Hello All, I apologize if this subject is already located somewhere in the forum's threads, I spent some time looking and I could not find it. I am seriously an amateur with Armbian. I have an x96 mini, first generation possibly, 1GB RAM 8GB Storage. I wanted to use it to create a linux process that would be running 24/7. The focal image that was release a while ago and was linked on one of the yandex drives works fine, from usb. When I install using install-aml.sh and then try to boot it, it attempts to look for a network, at least that is what appears to do. I don't want this unit accessing the network just yet. Is there a…

I'm trying to follow the SteeMan's Installation Instructions for TV Boxes with Amlogic CPUs. I'm want to install Armbian_23.11.1_Aml-s9xx-box_bookworm_current_6.1.63_cinnamon_desktop on a Tanix TX3 with a S905X3. Looking at other posts I think I got extlinux.conf correct but I can't find any ext files and I don't where exactly they are supposed to be. The boot folder in root is empty and there's not boot folder in the boot partition. No idea what tag is relevant so I choose one at random.

In at least a couple of occasions, my AMLogic box failed to boot after an attempted upgrade of `armbian-bsp-cli-aml-s9xx-box-current`. I did not keep a detailed report of the first time it happened, but at the time I am pretty confident it was due to the issue addressed in PR #6287. Now, it happened again, I believe following PR #6659. Maybe @SteeMan you can take a look?

All the steps described by @SteeMan are fine. The details are the particularities of each TV BOX, in case of Brazil, the box are the low quality and price (the cheapest box of the market). I had many difficulties with a RUPA A9 Diamond with S912. Initially, the problem was the network, so I created new dtb´s files based in a post of someone. All the steps are described here: linux_variety/notes.txt at master · claudiosa/linux_variety · GitHub some steps to generate dtb and dts Later, the sound was not working, fortunately I tried some others dtb without the procedure describe above, i.e. without network. Fortunately, the first experiment with "MeCool K…

Hi. I installed Armbian Server on my TV box (Ugoos X3 Pro 4/64 x905x3) to the NAND, and I have some trouble with the RAM size in the system. I use meson-sm1-ugoos-x3.dtb. It turns out that only 1.8GB of 4GB RAM is available in the system. On the Russian forum 4PDA, I found some information on how to fix this. I repacked the DTB file and changed memory@ from 0x40000000 to 0xFF000000. After that, 3.8GB RAM appeared in the system, but it turned out the system was unstable and randomly froze. However, when I installed Armbian from an SD card, all 3.8GB RAM was available in the system, and the system worked fine and stable. I also used meson-sm1-ugoos-…

Hello In the past I installed armbian into emmc (a95xf3-air) with a USB key. All was ok. Now I would like to do a fresh install with the current release : I burned the image, make the changes (extlinux …) Boot with the "toothpick" method, ssh , the armbian release is the old one from the emmc, not the recent from the key. How is it possible to boot with the recent one with ssh (no display no keyboard) ? And after copy the new release to emmc. Thanks for help

Long story short -- I was dumb and attempted to install armbian to the emmc on my s905 box because reading is hard. So now I have a box that won't boot. I have the original firmware image, which will restore the boot partition (from what I understand, this is the problem with s905s now, though I distinctly remember running debian on this via the emmc in the past, but that's a tangent that doesn't matter if I can't get it to boot anything). I have it connected via usb/ttl uart and can send commands. But what commands do I send? The amlogic usb burning tool doesn't see this box via usb, but if I run `usb start` it finds one usb device (presumably my …

I was searching for WI-FI Drivers for my X96 Mini because I was using my device with Armbian ophub's build. The only-ethernet thing kinda annoyed me so dived in and found there's a fix. A guy named lukas-kuna found a fix for the WI-FI chip (HERE). So I tried the fix and It really worked. So I decided to create a driver myself for Future use and for my fellow users. I used the Driver on Armbian 26.08 Build by ophub and the kernel version is 6.18.37. I created a Github Repo so I could share how I did it and how you could do it too. I Used DKMS to Automate the installation process, theres other ways to do it too. Also the DKMS method ensures driver doesn't disapp…

I've been using this setup for a few good weeks without issues, same powered hub and everything, however after accidentally unplugging the server and being unable to boot I decided to reimage the SD Card and now the box refuses to detect my external 1TB 2.5" HDD (powered hub).
