I’ve been testing Armbian on an Amlogic-based TV box, and wanted to share a short user experience. The device originally runs Android, but thanks to the Amlogic S9xx platform, it can boot Armbian from an SD card without touching the internal firmware. In my case, the system booted reliably and was usable for basic tasks like SSH access, light services, and general Linux testing. Ethernet and USB worked out of the box, while Wi-Fi and power management still required some manual tweaks, which seems common for community-supported TV boxes. For reference, the hardware I used belongs to the category of Amlogic TV boxes that are widely available on the m…

Hello, I have a problem after update on strong leap s1, it is stuck at the android tv loading screen, I found this method (1) Mecool KD3 Stick recovery reset | XDA Forums . Basically because this box doesn't have reset button, this method is can be used to get into recovery mode from where you can factory reset the box. Problem is that it's not working for me, is there anyone with same problem ? How did you solved it, please ? Thanks

Hello, I have a ZTE B866V2 tv box that has an Amlogic S905X2 - b processor. Try to install armbian in all possible ways, with different versions and methods, always following the instructions on the forum. My problem is that when I try to boot from the SD, the TV box simply starts its own operating system and does not load armbian. I got my TV box because my television company gives them to watch programs, but after I no longer paid for the service they gave them to me. They run a modified android tv system. I mention all this because I keep in mind that it could be the root of my problems. I leave you the link of the exact model: https://www.androidtv-g…

I was trying to get a buster distro working , or figure out how how to set up the SMB.conf , I'm trying to use it as a Samba share for the Playstation 2 an OPL I can't seem to get the SMB up an running at all though. Any help would be appriciated also a bit new to linux stuff i have class 10 sd cards booting from them , so I dunno I guess let me know what other info you'd need to help me figure this out. I'd like the be able to use something like OMV but I have no idea how I'd get it to boot. Thanks for your time everyone . I've set it up on a Pi4 before but that was a while ago an seemed a lot easier to do.

Hi all, and thanks you all so much for sharing time, effort and knowledge about this boxes. I'm reading this forum a lot and also learned from advanced users. Me only start to play around, doing some test with trial and mostly errors! First all, I'm not sure if this goes here, please move it if necessary. This box come with a S905X2 SoC, and while working fine with an ATV12, I think I brick it and I only partially can boot from SD-Card burned with a full image I take with an Armbian version (SD-Card), doing dding of their eMMC. So the first I notice is that in UART console first line I see is hex character in a loop, I don't see normal …

In at least a couple of occasions, my AMLogic box failed to boot after an attempted upgrade of `armbian-bsp-cli-aml-s9xx-box-current`. I did not keep a detailed report of the first time it happened, but at the time I am pretty confident it was due to the issue addressed in PR #6287. Now, it happened again, I believe following PR #6659. Maybe @SteeMan you can take a look?

On my S805 with stretch I used this: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4471 with this driver, and Python to be able to use the TV box with python, and GPIO like a Raspberry Pi https://github.com/nonNoise/PyMCP2221A i am reading 1 of the i/o pins and writing to 2 I/O pins for a color changing LED for a MP3 jukebox conversion.

Hi @faxe2110, or any other user, how are you? I'm working on a project with an Amlogic S805-based TV box and found your forum posts about custom Armbian images, particularly older versions like 5.67 with Debian Stretch and kernel 3.10.108. Unfortunately, the links you shared are no longer available, and I was wondering if you still have any of those files, or if you could give me some guidance on how to generate them. I'd greatly appreciate any help you can provide! Greetings from Argentina, Ricardo

I need to use this UART on an S905 system installed with Armbian 22 and Kernel 5.15 through Python. I am able to do this by changing the permissions of /dev/ttyAML0 from 640 to 660. However I need to avoid having to issue the CHMOD command each time I power up. I have written a service in systemd to do this automatically at startup but the CHMOD command has no effect on the port permissions or else they are being overwritten later on during startup. The service is functioning correctly since CHMOD on another dummy file alters permissions as expected. Any suggestions please?

Long story short -- I was dumb and attempted to install armbian to the emmc on my s905 box because reading is hard. So now I have a box that won't boot. I have the original firmware image, which will restore the boot partition (from what I understand, this is the problem with s905s now, though I distinctly remember running debian on this via the emmc in the past, but that's a tangent that doesn't matter if I can't get it to boot anything). I have it connected via usb/ttl uart and can send commands. But what commands do I send? The amlogic usb burning tool doesn't see this box via usb, but if I run `usb start` it finds one usb device (presumably my …

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I've been researching this topic for quite some time. I have a Mecool KM1 Deluxe with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and an Amlogic S905X3 chip. I wanted to install Armbian to use it as a Linux device, but I've tried several versions and it hasn't worked. Someone mentioned on this forum that installing CoreELEC would prevent Armbian from booting. I installed emuelec and it worked perfectly, but I haven't been able to run Armbian. Could this be the reason? Thanks.

Hello, I traced and worked around a USB enumeration failure on an X96S TV stick (Amlogic S905Y2, 4 GB RAM / 32 GB eMMC). I am posting this as an RFC and test request, not as an upstream-ready Armbian patch. Important environment note • Userspace: Armbian OS 26.05.0 Noble • Kernel: Linux 6.12.91 from the OPhub/unifreq TV-box tree, not an official Armbian kernel package • Exact source baseline: unifreq Linux commit 7f96286d7ef097465fe46dbea8002fa27a6a6bbc • DT reports model "AMedia X96 Max" and compatible "amediatech,x96-max", "amlogic,g12a". This is not an accurate X96S-specific identity. Symptoms HDMI and Wi-Fi worked, but USB2 devices would…

I recently came into possession of a Z69 Android TV Box (3/32GB) with a S950X chip. I tried @SteeMan's Amlogic guide, but can't seem to find @balbes150 files referenced in the post (only RK/Allwinner). I then tried compiling an Armbian img from https://github.com/ophub/amlogic-s9xxx-armbian (build jammy; s905x; kernel 5.10.135_5.15.50). I tried amending the config file but found it quite different from the ones in youtube videos or on the forums. There was a "u-boot-s905x-s912.bin" which I renamed to "u-boot.ext". However, when I did the toothpick method, the S905x bootscreen came up, followed by the splashcreen of the android box. The screen was …

Hi, I came across two similar TV boxes - "Evolveo H4 4k" and "Evolveo Q5 4k" - and found this great Armbian site! Thanks for your great work guys! I set my expectation low and tried with latest "Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0". The H4 seems to be an S905/p212 2GB/16GB (not sure whether w/ 1Gb lan) board and it boots here with selected: uboot-s905 and FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb (set in extlinux.conf) The Q5 seems to be an S905/p200 2GB/8GB board (lan w/ 1Gb) and it boots here with selected uboot-s905 and FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-p200.dtb or FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-vega-s95-telos.dtb (I added into …

Guys, I need to build a cheap NAND reader/writer to clone few NAND chips, and I have some old android TV Boxes that I'm thinking to re-purpose for this job. It's a one time job so I don't want to buy a professional NAND programmer as they tend to be quite expensive. Do you guys think this would be possible? So, I'm thinking to boot from an sd-card or usb stick with Armbian and get access to the NAND chips that all my tv boxes have (I have some old MX-III and M8 boxes, model K200 I think, with S802 cpus and 8GB NAND). If I manage to get NAND access I can de-solder and solder other chips that I need to write from/to. Does anyone have any experience with this and ca…

I have an ASUS RT-AC57U router and a USB drive is connected to it. I would like to use my X96 MINI to copy some files from this drive. I turned on SAMBA (in armbian config) in the ARMBIAN settings. On the monitor in the device manager, under the address 192.168.1.1, I can see all the folders created on the router's disk. Unfortunately, when I try to connect to the terminal, nothing works. When I use smbclient, it says "command not found". In addition, I also tried the commands: smbclient //192.168.1.1/folder/ --user user% pass sudo mount -t cifs -o username = user, password = pass //192.168.1.1/folder/ / media / share / open 'smb: /…

Hi Forum members, I have a Beelink GT1 Ultimate tvbox (RTL8211f/LTM8830) which came to me with Coreelec, so not the stock Android firmware. I had to install the Android firmware (found somewhere on internet, not from Beelink) in order to be able to run Armbian (off sd card) and no matter which .dtb I try, there is no LAN in Armbian (no phy), but also it doesn't work in Android. Am I right in that I cannot make it work in Armbian if it doesn't work in Android? Case 1: Eth port/rtl8211f chip is damaged Case 2: the Android firmware image does not fit my tv box Is there a chance that case 2 is the situation so if I find an Android image with working LAN t…

My next step is to build a secure privacy oriented travel router with pi-hole, vpn and openWRT What is the recommend virtual server software for openWRT? docker or pimox? Is there any tutorial here on this community on how to install openWRT on armbian tvboxes, since I wasn't able to find anything, but some users claim they have successfully installed openWRT on their armbian tvbox. There's a tutorial on how to install pi-hole on this community and there's is also an unoffical armbian fork on github that offers out-of-the-box openWRT installation that might even work, but that is not an option for me, since they just stole the armbian name (ac…

Hi all, I managed to install Armbian on a X96 Linux TVBox with 4Gb RAM and 32Gb ROM. I've build the image following the Armbian Build Framework. - v25.08 rolling for aml-s9xx-box running Armbian Linux 6.12.37-current-meson64 I reused the DTB that originally comes with the BOX and almost everything seems to work. I tested the system using glmark2 with a score of 197. I suppose GPU is working. Anyway I've some problems with Electron. I have installed the "hello world" app. The application starts but I receive this error: [4150:0714/130924.545719:ERROR:ui/gfx/linux/gbm_wrapper.cc:79] Failed to get fd for…

So I've got two of these old android tv boxes, both running the S912 chipset, and both are pretty much dead at this point. Trying to figure out if it's worth the effort to revive them or if I should just toss them already. On both boxes: no display through hdmi at all, not even a logo or flicker. Tried the toothpick trick for recovery screen with power plugged in, no reaction. Keyboard and mouse don't get picked up when connected. And when I hook them up to my laptop with a usb to usb cable, the boot light does turn on so they're clearly getting power, but the box itself never shows up anywhere on the laptop, not even in device manager after installing the usb burning t…
