I'm looking for the ability to extract coarse motion estimation from the h.264 encoder. These vectors are calculated as part of the compression algorthm and should be done on the hardware in real time - just a matter of extracting them. This extraction is done on the Raspberry Pi with "raspivid -x output". It is also exposed in picamera. Does anyone know if there is a similar capability to extract the motion vectors? If not, how one might go about doing this in python/c++? thanks, philip

hi there, i was wondering if there a away to compile mosquitto 1.4. successfully the current version is 1.3.3 ( or something like that) when I try to compile it it seams to compile correctly and it seams to install correctly. the broker portion works fine but the client side does not. when you try to publish or subscribe it complains a file is missing. I needed it for websockets to compile id did this wget https://github.com/warmcat/libwebsockets/archive/v1.3-chrome37-firefox30.tar.gz tar xvzf v1.3-chrome37-firefox30.tar.gz cd v1.3-chrome37-firefox30 mkdir build cd build cmake .. make sudo make install sudo ln -s /usr/local/lib/libwebso…

Hello to all. I'm trying to use the image Armbian_5.25_Orangepipcplus_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.9.4.img but I can not operate the webcam. With the image of the previous version, the webcam worked with gs2035 and vte_v42l modules, which can not find in the current image. Is it an omission or there are compatibility issues? Where could I find instructions (simple, if possible) to compile them? Thank you.

Hello, I have several ARM boards in my possession and I want to be able to boot them all from a single SD card (I have commercial SW which requires activation and is tied to a particular SD card afterwards). So far, I have made this script which creates multiple /boot-boardname directories, replaces /boot with a symlink to one of those, and makes sure the right u-boot is written to the card. However, I have one little problem I couldn't yet solve: I would like to generate the correct /etc/modules file for a new board, and I don't know how. For example, Orange Pi Zero needs this xradio_wlan module for WIFI. Where do I find the info that this module is needed? A…

After reading from June '16 until February '17 I think it makes sense to start at the last steps /improvements. In the 5.24 nightly the directory for networking looks like this (the network folder and the few below this branch): Looking back to my manual I deleted the VLAN file and created my own. Then I see here: ifenslave | ethtool | ip | several 'interfaces' and I was wondering does it need all that for a working VLAN with DSA=Distributed Switch Architecture ? ==================================================== reto@lamobo-r1:/etc/network$ ll total 60 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Feb 4 18:34 ./ drwxr-xr-x 94 root root 4096 Feb 4 18:36 ../ drwxr-xr-x 2…

Hello, I have idea to make a product (based on SBC - Small Board Computer) and sell it on the market, but after searching many forums, websites, youtubes etc I am sure only for one: All what can work on that SBCs stable (I mean stable for production use, for customer product) is... lighting a LED connected to pins... That's all. Anything else could work, but also could not work. Drivers coud be found, but you can not be sure they will work (most of them are in version zero point...). Units could be connected, but it doesn't mean they will work when connected... Crazy. Let me explain more. My project needs a SBC with working camera and working communication (Bluetooth or …

Hello, everyone. Shameless self-promo: https://github.com/znoxx/torbox This set of scripts will allow you to create a tor-enabled wifi access point. Image for OrangePI Zero is based on Armbian - i just disabled NetworkManager here to allow correct execution of scripts. The idea is - you get "normal internet" from Ethernet jack, then do some TOR magic and all traffic from wifi side is "torred". Also I2P is installed to have "more darkness" in your Internets. Everything intended to be completely headless with managing via web interface, written with node.js. Have fun. For russian-speaking persons - description is here: http://znoxx.me/tor-i2p-m…

Got a bit of a weird issue and the search in Armbian site is not helping much due to words with few characters.. Have a Opi+2E running Armbian Ubuntu 16.04.1 xenial desktop and an ethernet connection. (Packet tracking is via wireshark) Whenever an ARP network request comes to it (targeted at its MAC addr) for revealing its IP, it does not reply back. Is there any hint or info on such an issue? Solved. It was just me not rebooting when needed.. Sorry for the noise.

I have a cubietruck board and successfully moved my Armbian installation from my microSD card to my SSD. I would like to clean up the microSD card now and shrink it to a smaller size, so I can move the content to a smaller card. What do I actually need on that card to be able to boot to SSD? Just the '/boot' folder or does the boot loader need any other data to do its magic?

I've been using debian on all my systems for a long time. On my x86 and x64 systems, debian_version always gets updated after dist-upgrades and upgrades. It has never been the case for my embedded boards running armbian jessie. I tried to research into what actually does the trigger, but I can't find any details. When I log in, my splashscreen confirms there are no new updates (I updated this morning). It's still showing 8.0 in /etc/debian_version. Hello everybody, this is my very first post on armbian forum! I wanted to give a try to armbian on my bananapi M1 so I'm running the Debian Jessie server version. Hi, All! I have modified w1-therm kernel module. Now device directory contains two more files w1_read and w1_convert_all. You can read sensor memory without triggering temperature conversion using the first one and you can trigger the temperature conversion on all sensors (implemented using "skip ROM") with the second one. I needed this modification to speed up sensor reading. Now I start temperature measurement on all sensors (it takes 750ms on 18B20) and then read the results. Earlier reading sensor (using w1_slave) required 750+ms for each sensor. Here is the result for my 10sensors 1wire network (using the usual w1_slave required 8.5sec, with new feature…

Hi This issue is produced on both flavors of Linux for the orange pi zero i.e. Debian and Ubuntu. I am trying to login to pi zero using the serial terminal. First time it asks me to change the password, which I changed. Then using that changed password I tried to login into it. However, whenever I enter the password in it. it restarts. I even used the external high power phone charger to test this issue but in both cases result was same. Any solution to this problem?

Hi, I would suggest that in Armbian use Webmin as default. - easy interface - very easy to check the status of Armbiana - easy to install basic services, eg. How to install (Orange Pi PC ): (Webmin updates itself to the latest version - notification appears) sudo apt-get install -y perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl apt-show-versions python sudo wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.831_all.deb sudo dpkg --install webmin_1.831_all.deb access: (ignore https warni…

I'm experimenting with video transcoding but am getting problems when using vdpau to decode and the hw video encoder. Using this https://github.com/stulluk/FFmpeg-Cedrus and https://github.com/uboborov/ffmpeg_h264_H3 software decode & hw encode = 15-20FPS but high CPU usage. it can do 60FPS encoding rate with 960x540 30fps h264 source dropping the compression helps a bit too (-qp 24, default is 30) hw decode & hw encode of 1080 h264 = 1FPS, using 4k h265 as the source gives 1.5 FPS ffmpeg -hwaccel vdpau -i 1080p30.mp4 -c:v cedrus264 -c:a copy -pix_fmt nv12 out.mp4 Is the video engine designed to do transcoding?

Tried to build making a new git clone of the repository. So far tried to test by building orangepipcplus and orangepiplus2e, both stop in the screen 'Choose image type'. Options selected for both are 'Os image for installation to SD card', 'vendor provided / legacy ..) kernel, 'Debian 8 jessie', 'Image with desktop'environment'. Also, another try to build for nanopineo stopped in the same place. It seems that today's commits (29/12/2016) got something to do with this, I was able to generate images up to yesterday. @Igor, @zador.blood.stained can you please let me know if it works ok with you after today's commits?

Recently we bought several BananaM2+ boards to integrate them into our future fiscal project We are developing software using Armbian Linux Debian-3.4.113-sun8i with standard core, which was chosen as a stable platform. For now we have a problem with integration. Due to our fiscal laws the board should be placed in the fiscal box with no access from outside. Now we are testing the board “on the table†using typical operations (even without loading it by typical cashiers operations) and the temperature rises very high. As a result the board starts switching off processor’s cores leaving only 1 working. We even still haven’t started testing the board placed into…

According to http://linux-sunxi.org/H2%2B#VariantsI should be able to differentiate between the H2+ and the H3 via the CPU SID. I have an Orange Pi Zero board with this output from /proc/cpuinfo Hardware : Allwinner sun8i Family Revision : 0000 Serial : 02004620161dea8a According to that site "the last byte of the first word" should be either 0x42 or 0x83 since the Orange Pi Zero has an H2+. Yet I am not finding 0x42 or 0x83 *anywhere* in "02004620161dea8a". Anyone know how to correctly identify the CPU variant?

Hi there, I am quite new to Armbian (Debian), but experienced on Fedora (RedHat). I want to use national language support on my Armbian device [Orange Pi PL+]. In particular Polish (but if this post transforms into guide it will be for others too). How do I install(?) / enable (?) / rebuild (?) packages (especially GUI) to enable Polish language? With this, OPi / Armbian would be an "viable" alternative to some "STBs" (2x less price... freedom of installing packages). Fonts, keyboard (I saw only "Polish-Dvorak" which is not correct, should be "polish-programmers" - with ALT-Gr or Polish-"typewriter" which I guess is not available now), all these stuff. …

The sudoers file is missing etc etc. Any ideas why this is happening? I've cloned Raspberry images hundreds of times and never seen this. The original card still boots perfectly? I've used this line to clone (on a Ubuntu machine) sudo dd if=/dev/sdc of=~/sdclone.img and when writing back sudo dd if=~/sdclone.img of=/dev/sdc I've also tried with bs=4M, notrunc, noerrors etc etc What should I do?

Hello, I would like to ask your help about a orange pi choice. i am a kindergarden teacher and I need a computer for my classroom, in order to show the kids videos, images, access internet for information and if it is possible, play .swf games. We had a very old desktop that is now dead, but the mouse, keyboard, old (not flat) vga monitor work ok. Do you think if I buy an orange pi pc (or an other board) and hdmi to vga adaptor and use armbian , I will be ok? No need to say that lack of money is the major issue......

Hi, I am having problem with overscan on orangepipc on my car display. https://goo.gl/photos/19v3Ji2cAUMsLwoV6 Left border is cropped by 32 pixels and bottom is cropped by 52px. Resolution is 800x480 configured with h3disp -m 31. I am outputing video using HDMI-to-VGA reduction and then I transform VGA signal to RGBS using two XOR gates (so the car display understand the signal). Running self-build Armbian with ubuntu xenail on legacy kernel (3.4.113-sun8i). I want to crop or scale my desktop so it will fit the screen. I tried so far xrandr --transform (it seems that it is not supported) set env in uboot to enable overscan_x and y (works only in ub…

Hi I've just set up the Roseapple Pi with Armbian (legacy server Debian). As I often find (over a range of monitors) there's an overscan so bad I can't see the "login" instructions at the bottom of the screen... on all sides the text is off the edge of the screen. For the life of me I can't see WHERE to adjust the overscan - can anyone help. Pete.

I have spent the greater part of the day trying to get fbtft working on an ili9341 display on the nano pi neo with the legacy kernel. I have looked through the forum over and over and I cannot find out how the pins are numbered for fbtft. I got https://github.com/wertyzp/WiringNPand did a gpio readall and that gives me some pin numberings. I have tried both the pins from wPi and BCM. Neither work. I have done this many times on a raspberry pi, but cannot seem to get it to work on any of the H3 stuff. I saw in the forums that in the mainline kernel, there is a mathematical equation for pin numberings. I tried that as well, with no luck. I also tried giving the actual portp…

Hello guys! I'm new on the forum and I'll start using Armbian for my Orange boards, I was using Loboris images in Orange Pi Forums but I haven't seen any updates on them, so I decided to use Armbian for my boards. I have tested a little bit and everything works like a charm. Taking into account that I'm not an expert either in Linux or Programming I'd like to have a little board that I purchased one year ago which is the NanoPi board http://www.nanopi.org/NanoPi_Feature.html ,is it possible to port Armbian to that device? I haven't been able to use WiFi on the device or connect it to internet to update packages and so on. I also couldn't finish the "Kernel build" …

First things first. I am enjoying armbian so thanks all for it and well first post as well so Hi and stuff. Ok I likely dont know what I am talking about and I have been able to verify SMP working but something is bothering me. On every multicore system I have ever used I always see the cores split out into separate processors in cpuinfo like this: processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 42 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2540M CPU @ 2.60GHz stepping : 7 microcode : 0x29 cpu MHz : 894.257 cache size : 3072 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 0 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level :…

Hi all. After installation of transmission-daemon I got two issues. First one is "UDP Failed to set receive/send buffer". I did fix it by adding next two lines to /etc/sysctl.conf net.core.rmem_max = 16777216 net.core.wmem_max = 4194304 Second one is that RPC does not start on boot but only after manual restart of service after boot. I believe it's caused because transmission starts before network goes online. I tried to fix it by adding into /lib/systemd/system/transmission-daemon.service [unit] ... Wants=network-online.target After=network-online.target But it does not help. I did fix it by adding next two lines to /etc/rc.l…

Hello, Does anyone of you ever have done power consumption measurement or any statistic? For my Orange Pi cluster I have build up a simple circuit, to measure the total current (ampere) [1]. If all my nodes are powered off and my cubietruck and a orange Pi are powered on, the measured current is about 2A. It looks like that the Orange Pi One does not Consume a significant amount of current, if it is idle. And he is idle for about 90% of time. In case of all of that my 5 OrangePi PC nodes, the Orange PI One and my cubietruck is powered on, the measured current is about 7A what gives a power consumption of ~ 35Watt. Which is the power consumption when every node / host…

Hi, my new Orange Pi has been set up with an external HDD. I've backed up my banana pi m1 with sudo tar cvpzf /mnt/BackupNas/backup.tgz --exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/sys --exclude=/dev --exclude=/boot / and restored the files onto the external HDD on the OPI. A restart was successfully and the system appears to run smoothly. It now doesn't display the nice text after logging in via SSH. I am afraid that there are other important files overwritten. Does anybody know what I might have overwritten and needs to be restored from plain armbian? Thanks René

Hi, following the documentation, I used nand-sata-install to boot from SD, system on SATA / USBwithout any problems. My backup solution (raspiBackup.sh) now creates a 16GB image for the SD card, even if it is just used to boot. Is it possible to shrink the partition? Thank you René

hi all, would love to run 'mainline' kernel on some of the boards. Armbian does provide 'choice' today for most/many Orange boards as well as NanoPI ... tu build the image with mainline/4.9 kernel. my needs are not too complex a) Ethernet USB to drive USB DAC ... Is there anyone on a forum who has tried recent 4.9-rc or maybe even 4.8 and it worked well and if yes which boards did you use ? I am running Odroid-C2 happily with Armbian and 3.14.79 kernel but some of the very old bugs have been fixed later on (kernel bugs) and am looking for a board that might run recent kernel well (enough). Thank you !

Hey guys and gals and aliens and their pets, What does a better single board computer look like? What chipset does it use? what does it do differently from past models? I have some thoughts on this but I'd be remiss not to ask yours. "Better" is a goal. Need to figure out what better is, first, and then act.

What about the new Banana PI M2 ultra ? Is it a real SATA controller ? or just one more that is channeled through the USB ? And is this machine likely to be supported by Armbian ? It in short seems to be a little overpriced and the eMMC storage to be to little. And the M3 left a bit bad taste in my mouth, but if it is Sata that gives more speed than USB and if it will be Armbian supported then I might give them another go.

Hi all, I have just deployed the 5.2 Armbian version (desktop) on my OrangePiLite but the first boot seems to cause issues - I have an USB mouse and keyboard connected but during the bootprocess I receive the messages: usb 7-1: new low-speed USB device number xx using sunxi-ohci generic-usb 0003:....... input,hidraw-: USB HID v1.11 Mouse on usb-sunxi-ohci-1/input0 However, these messages just repeat and are counting. I can not do anything else, this step comes up after I have created a new user and assigned a new password. Thanks for help and advice.

Hi guys! I understood yesterday that the Raspberry Pi 3 is limited to only 2-channel 16-bit PCM audio over HDMI by its ALSA driver. Therefore I'm now looking for another board capable of at least outputting 6x 24-bit LPCM 48 kHz channels. My goal is to build a software DSP, processing multi-channel audio recorded from an USB audio interface. The idea is to capture a home-cinema receiver pre-outs, mix and apply biquads for crossover with the sub and speaker tuning, then handle the clock difference between input and output. A couple threads mention difficulties with 24-bit audio, on legacy kernel and over I2S, where the user Christos observed issues. Do…

Hi All The "real time" kernel patches are included in Igor's Armbian build tools, but are disabled by default. Enabling them are simple. (Thanks Igor) Build "real time" kernel images by doing the following: refer to https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib Execution apt-get -y install git git clone https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib--depth 1 cp lib/compile.sh . mv ./lib/patch/kernel/sun7i-default/0014-patch-3.4.108-rt136.patch.disabled ./lib/patch/kernel/sun7i-default/0014-patch-3.4.108-rt136.patch ./compile.sh Press "Enter" to continue Confirm you are running a RT kernel by checking "uname -a" output for PREEMPT e.g Further reading…

I'm currently running Armbian Ubuntu Xenial Server on a Cubietruck, it works very well, thanks for all the effort! I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3, installed some of the available images and found them kind of disappointing. The RPI2 and RPI3 both support ARMv7, which should make it reasonably easy to run Armbian Ubuntu images on it. Any chance of getting RPI2/3 support in the future? I would be willing to test work. Thanks!

I have an orangepi pc+ which (among other duties) exports my usb (/media/wd/Music) drive with nfs. The external usb drive (A Western Digital) automatically enters sleep mode when it is not used for a while. When I try to mount that nfs-share on another machine, I hear the drive spinning up (awakening) and the mount succeeds. But when I try to access the mount I get "ls: cannot access /opt/music: Stale file handle" I had the same drive and /etc/exports on my raspberrypi-2 but there I did not have this problem (I could hear it spinning up as well when I accessed the mount so I know it was entering sleep mode as well). So I think it is a difference in configuration…
