The problem: I want to run my Banana Pi M2 Zero from a battery / powerbank setup. It works like a charm from a beefy powerbank capable of consistent 2A output [1], even with added 5" LCD screen to power at the same time and wireless keyboard transmitter. BUT it does hang up hard, I guess due to undervoltage, when powered from a smaller, weaker powerbank with a single 18650 cell and max output of about 500mA (theoretically 1A but let's underestimate, I'll try to measure it with an oscilloscope). Armbian with 4.19 kernel and Ubuntu 18.04 (but booting in text mode, without any GUI). The hangup occurs during services startup, usually around networ…

I don't want to torture my SD card with full OS image rewrites or compilation on the device itself, so I would like to cross-compile. I just set up a ubuntu/bionic64 VirtualBox through Vagrant using https://github.com/armbian/build Currently, I don't want to build entire image or kernel from scratch but I noticed that compile.sh and related scripts contain many convenience functions and tools. I already started compile.sh once to let it prepare the virtual machine for cross-compile tasks and it successfully installed all the dependencies. I got especially interested in extras-buildpkgs folder. As I understand, I can put my own package d…

Hi, I wanted to know if there was an easy way to customize an existing released image or rebuild a released image. I know you can use the customize image option when building, but I would like to not build the latest nightly, but instead just build whatever was released. The customization I am looking to do is installing additional packages, downloading some personal python code, setting timezone and other similar settings. I searched the forums, but didn't see anything helpful, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Let's first recap from the other thread : And here is Zador's first reply : And my first reply : Now, here is my latest investigations : Both H5 and A64 doesn't probe RTC driver successfully, explaining why dmesg doesn't mentioned it (I hate driver which are not verbose on failures !) But, why H5 doesn't react the same as A64 ? I will have to wait until issue re-appear to dig further in /var/log/syslog , maybe tomorrow ! BTW, Zador, the -EINVAL seen on "date" command is only shown when symptom occurred, not after reboot... (let's wait tomorrow to see) As I said, I suspect "systemd" compatiblilty issue here. BTW, each time the issu…

Build on new kernel (5.1), Ubuntu 18.04. No cpufreq information (0 MHz in htop etc.) also means there's no working frequency scaling. Which for Allwinner H2+ (Banana Pi M2 Zero) means quick hard-hang due to overheating whenever I compile anything non trivial, unless I point a USB Fan on the CPU (which already got a heatsink). Is there any chance of getting cpufreq and dvfs to work?

Hi! I have a problem with my Orange Pi Lite 2 I tried to connect my device to my home WiFi. But the device does not see the wifi, at a distance of 10 centimeters. I try to launch commands: nmtui-connect *name to my WIFI* nmtui-connect for show all WiFi Network. But in neither case does the device manage to identify the network. I tried using: vim /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf I tried to edit the file and to insert the data of my network but nothing. Can anyone give me a hand to solve this problem? Thanks everyone in advance!

I already saw similar posts on this here, here and here. It looks like the combination of Kernel and Kernel-Header 5.89.190617 again is not complete to build own modules. Based on the configure script: Then I tried to check the headers: Since it was already a few times on the forum and sometime there was a new build created and it was fixed again, I would like to know if I just came over the same error again or if I did something wrong. cheers, Daniel

Hi all, I'm using an online article to help get me started with DotNet core this one Article All works fine when I use a Raspberry Pi as my target host but on my Nanopi the executable file created by dotnet publish -t linux-arm is not found, in the article the author creates a console app from a Windows command line and then publishes it. He then copies all the files from the Windows *publish* folder to a Pi and the executable created by Windows runs on the Pi. If I do the same on my Nanopi I get a file not found error - racking my brains with this one as the file is definitely there. I can create apps directly on the Nano cli but it would be …

Simple library for 128x64. Works fine with SH1106 1.3" OLED and OrangePi Zero (4.9 kernel). You just need to activate I2C interface by replacing "disabled" with "okay" in device tree file (or in the fex). Connect display and test with "sudo i2cdetect -y 0" (or 1). If your display has 3d address instead 3c, change OLED_I2C_ADDR parameter it in the oled.h. Enter "make" to compile and run demo with "sudo ./oled_demo /dev/i2c-0". This library was written by Sonal Pinto for Arduino and ported to Linux by Vladimir Komendantskiy. I just wrote functions for text drawing and add three little fonts. This library only can draw text at X Y with specified font and draw cu…

I installed the linux-image-dev-sunxi64 and linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64 packages, which pulls in the 5.1.5 kernel, and it seems something is amiss in the pinebook dtb. On the 4.19 kernel, pwm-backlight powers on, and you get video output, however, on 5.1.5 once u-boot loads the kernel and it is starting, video output goes away. In the 4.19 kernel, the kern.log shows the following output during boot: May 29 19:15:10 localhost kernel: [ 3.937999] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): mounted filesystem with writeback data mode. Some SBCs, such as PIneA64, provide a built-in RTC on-board while others do not. For those boards that do have a built-in RTC, it appears the kernel driver is configured as a builtin rather than as a module at least in some cases (I only checked a few). This in turn brings up a question: For boards that include a built-in RTC and also have the respective kernel driver configured as a built-in, should the kernel configuration to also set the system clock from that RTC (RTC_HCTOSYS) be enabled by default? There is a dependency that the RTC be built-in as the kernel will try to read from the RTC rather early, before any loadable modules w…

Currently all of the Armbian kernel defconfigs include the actual build configuration statically as part of the kernel. The standard Armbian build process also includes a copy of the .config file in /boot/config-<version>-<platform>. Are both required, or should the kernel configurations be updated to make Kernel .config support an LKM instead of static bind? True this is a minor item. The actual kernel configuration takes up a very small amount of memory, though on many SBCs with limited memory to start with every byte not used by the kernel can help. This would amount to changing from: CONFIG_IKCONFIG=y to: CO…

I've done an experimental build of 5.0.y for my NanoPiK2. It seems that most of the current rejected patches are simply not needed anymore. The only thing I'm not sure what to do is in patch 0038-media-meson-add-v4l2-m2m-video-decoder-driver.patch. I've comment out this line since it seems that v4l2 API has changed : // .vidioc_cropcap = vdec_cropcap, If some of you are more familiar, please, give some help here. Should I proceed to the commits ?

I wish you all good health. Using the "Armbian" build system, I noticed two bad points: 1 - incomplete cleaning of the source code before starting a new compilation, seen when patches add new files to the tree. 2 - Debian kernel source package includes the git directory. 1) All I do I'm fixing the version kernel (KERNELBRANCH="tag:v4.14.40") and collect several variants for one Board, changing the patchset for each version, adding or removing some. Before each new compilation I'm doing a test of the purity of the source. clean_repo() { display_alert "clean_repo $PWD" #git status -s git reset --hard HEAD # First, return the modified f…

Earlier today I pushed a fairy large patchset containing various functional improvements of many boards. If you have Allwinner board and some spare time: 1. Build DEV image/kernel with https://github.com/armbian/build (you need to add EXPERT="yes" to the config to unlock) 2. Install DEV kernel from beta repository Optional Defreeze kernel updates Switch to nightly kernel (armbian-config -> system -> Nightly) Reboot Switch to other kernel (armbian-config -> system -> Other -> DEV) When board came up, do some exploration. Most important information is to find out if there is a regression toward ker…

Hi there, I've tried to migrate from my old 16.04 ubuntu build machine to 18.04 regarding the documentation there is no need for extra packages. To get compile.sh running I've added build-essentials, ccache, make & libpython. Now there is a problem with openssl/bio.h. Is there a complete list of packages needed? I've set up my VM using the ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso image. Is it solely failing by not using the mini.iso? Regards, Sebastian

A bit of software that might be interesting to those that wish to use the IO's of Pi type boards https://github.com/Nikolay-Kha/PyCNC Typically there is no way to control stepper motors from Linux runtime environment due to the lack of real time GPIO control. Even kernel based modules can not guarantee precise control of pulses for steppers. However, we can use a separate hardware module, DMA (Direct Memory Access) which provides high precision for GPIO outputs. This module can copy bytes which represent GPIO states from RAM buffer directly to GPIO with some clock based on main chip internal oscillator without using CPU's cores. Using such approach…

Just thought you developers might enjoy this... It uses a CRAZY cheap module, becomes a serial to wifi bridge, outputs on the module can then be connected to a standard serial tx/rx, 5v/gnd, and not only does it have a webgui, but also a web console https://github.com/jeelabs/esp-link The esp-link firmware connects a micro-controller to the internet using an ESP8266 Wifi module. It implements a number of features: transparent bridge between Wifi and serial, useful for debugging or inputting into a uC flash-programming attached Arduino/AVR microcontrollers and LPC800-series and other ARM microcontrollers via Wifi built-in stk500v1 p…

Hi there, I realized that in the documentation for Marvell Mainline SFP is listed as unsupported. ( https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Marvell/#mainline ) So I tested that with some SFP Module I had laying around (SFP -> 1Gbit/s TP, no fiber though), and everything seems to be working fine. I will attach armbianmonitor -u and some proof. Maybe you can then put SFP as supported for mainline armada. Armbianmonitor -u: http://ix.io/1APB Used module: https://www.ebay.de/itm/142747822671 (maybe this can also be added as tested to the download page) ethtool output with attached sfp module (and cable): root@…

Hi, thanks for the efforts making armbian very well and very stable for all the distributions, I'm running with a Cubieboard 1 and other arm devices.. I don't want to disturb, but I'll be a headache to support or add in repository this old A10 device Mele A1000/A2000? I know that is old chip, but I'm feel nostalgia, because was one of firsts devices supported in linux-sunxi, and Tom Cubie worked at mele, and sell this litlle joys overseas in 2012, and there are a lot of people now that have this devices too. a lot now sure in the dust and is in mainline kernel also. Tom left Mele, and maked Cubieboard 1, this Mele A1000 I think that have the same configurat…

I found this project very interesting and I would like to try Armbian for this new board Turris MOX. I've got your build environment working and tested my own build for a couple of supported boards. Hi, running Armbian Ubuntu on Nanopi Neo2 and it is working really great. I would like to implement HPN-SSH but I can't compile any of the OpenSSH versions against OpenSSL 1.1.x present on system. Any idea if OpenSSL 1.1.x can be safely downgraded to the latest OpenSSL 1.0.x release? I would use for example the method described here Not sure if OpenSSL 1.0.x would break anything on the system or not? Thanks for your help and advise!

Hello, I'm new to Armbian which i just installed on a Rock64 board (Armbian_5.65_Rock64_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.162.7z). I have to say that my first impressions are that Armbian is a nice Os and that this is the one that causes me the less troubles on the Rock64 to install and to start. My goal is the write/port an application in C++ preferably by using Qt. Here, it is the problem. I tried to install it using command: sudo apt-get install qtcreator sudo apt-get install qt4-designer "Qt 4 Designer" seems installed correctly and seems working properly. Qt Creator was not installed completely, the IDE is installed but there i…

Hello, I'm using the Tinkerboard S and I'm just curious. My understanding is that the latest mali user space drivers released by rockchip no longer have x11 support. I'm wondering if this user space driver is capable of running say a desktop environment utilising wayland. Would say, Gnome, Plasma or Enlightenment work with this proprietary driver? My apologies i'm in no way shape or form a developer, just curious about the capabilities of the driver. I

I tried to used AppArmor under the Linux cubietruck 4.4.1-sunxi #10 SMP Wed Feb 17 17:57:20 CET 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux. But I get a kernel panic after i rebooted the system. Some questions: 1. Did you integrate AppArmor into the kernel? 2. Did you use an alternative mandatory access control? 3. Need I an additional kernel argument in the /boot/boot.cmd other than these "apparmor=1 security=apparmor"? 4. Is there a major diffenrece between your kernel and that from danad.de? Unluckily I was not capable of getting a dump from the kernel panic. If you need it, I would take a photo.

It's a good idea, but it still leaves a question of loading u-boot and kernel/script.bin/initrd initially. If SPL doesn't want to boot from available SD card this won't help much... ... unless FEL is used to "bootstrap" the process. Just for experiment I compiled sunxi-fel for Windows and installed libUSB driver in single click with Zadig tool. So we could provide an application/set of scripts for Linux and Windows to do this.

Stumbled across this while working on something else not ARM related, but it's pretty cool - since Armbian is looking at devices that have eMMC, this might be useful https://github.com/pepe2k/u-boot_mod Short story - it's a uBoot with a micro web server that supports flashing images, including uBoot itself - basically it turns things into a bit of a fail-safe as long as uBoot can execute... (those playing with the fire that is uBoot, keep your UART connections handy) Do I have some security concerns - absolutely yes... but no different than the UEFI that is on many x86 boards these days.

Sorry for this novice question, I am sure I am missing this in the documentation somewhere... When creating Armbian images using the included build system, I notice that the kernel is downloaded each time I run a build. This of course takes a decent amount of time to pull via git. Is there a way to simply point the build system to a local cached folder that already contains kernel sources already downloaded? That would speed up my iterations significantly. Thanks!

Prior to entering an issue... One of the challenges of using an image based install is how to cover to machine unique items... Good example here is the systemd-machine-id... some systemd units can use machine-id in place of gethostid... https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/machine-id.html It's supposed to be a unique qualifier for installation - but if this is written into the image, it's going to likely be the same for every image out there... Can always regen it on the shell - but this could also be in the first run script... $ cat /etc/machine-id \ && sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dbus/…

I managed to write H3 HDMI driver for mainline U-Boot. Source can be found here: https://github.com/jernejsk/u-boot You should also add CONFIG_VIDEO=y to defconfig for your board. It should work nicely for standard resolutions (720p, 1080p). Other resolutions might work, but some additional work needs to be done. Currently, this can be used for working with U-Boot (instead of serial console) or splash screen.

I'm currently working on the meson64 family (C2, K2, Le Potato) as a family, and am trying to more or less make their GPIO behaviors similar and matching (as best I can) to the RPi they are form factor clones of. An issue I'm having right now has to do with the spidev driver, these boards don't have hardware spi where the Pi/Tinker does does, so I'm defining spi-gpio devices in the device tree. That part is fine. Where it gets interesting is setting up a spidev node under it. - Calling out a compatible = "spidev" works, enumerates, etc, but throws the typical ugly error during boot that it is wrong to do it that way. - Adding a compatible string to the…

Hello, before even thinking about arranging a CSC board bring up pull request to armbian, I would be pleased to know if it sensible to do that for a TV Box which is not sold anymore but still quite powerful because of its rk3288 SoC. Hi Team, With very straight forward documentation for building the image for Orange PI one board (All Winner H3), I was able build image. Highly appreciate teams help in getting the inputs. Looking forward for the response. Thanks, Kedar

Good morning all, how are you?. I'm looking for help on knowing about the buffer strength on an H3 board, I've been looking on the H3 SoC datasheet and found this about GPIO's: Buffer Strength defines drive strength of the associated output buffer. but I don't know if the buffer is the entire port or not because I can't find any other reference to it and I don't want to fry the board. Can anyone explain me this?. Thanks in advance dor the help.

You have a build framework that works pretty good, is it out of the question to have an extremely simple configuration framework? Maybe framework is more advanced than needed, probably just a script? It it doesn’t need to be part of the normal build process but could just simply inject a configuration profile into a completed rootfs, image or actual sd card Just the basics: Single network manager profile hostname default user and pass serial console config log2ram status remote login status (ssh, xrdp) I don’t mind writing a simple v0.1 to get started

Hello, I know that when a new LTS kernel gets released, that has very considerable impact and importance here at Armbian. Are you stoked about the upcoming 4.19 release? I know I am. Can you give examples of which use cases you'll be most eager to get a 4.19 kernel into? Myself, I'll be excited to see which already-Supported boards get a new Armbian Stretch or Bionic released with 4.19. This will help me get a sense which boards (and SBC makers) have the …

Namely the Network Manager. I recently just made a Debian Stretch Image for the ROC-RK3328-CC (Renegade) with the help of this and I would like to know for future reference, how to omit and add software to the final build. I'm curious as to why we explicitly specify CPUMIN and CPUMAX values in the Armbian board configs, for most/all boards... These values of course propagate their way into the MIN_SPEED and MAX_SPEED settings in the target /etc/default/cpufrequtils configuration file (e.g., see lib/makeboarddeb.sh). If these values aren't specified, then the cpufreq driver will base its speed ranges on what the underlying H/W supports (e.g., specified via the board DT(s)). So...if the underlying driver configuration provides the supported speed range, then we actually need to specify these values? I ask because I'm running my H5 boards with my overlays t…
