I've done an experimental build of 5.0.y for my NanoPiK2. It seems that most of the current rejected patches are simply not needed anymore. The only thing I'm not sure what to do is in patch 0038-media-meson-add-v4l2-m2m-video-decoder-driver.patch. I've comment out this line since it seems that v4l2 API has changed : // .vidioc_cropcap = vdec_cropcap, If some of you are more familiar, please, give some help here. Should I proceed to the commits ?

Some SBCs, such as PIneA64, provide a built-in RTC on-board while others do not. For those boards that do have a built-in RTC, it appears the kernel driver is configured as a builtin rather than as a module at least in some cases (I only checked a few). This in turn brings up a question: For boards that include a built-in RTC and also have the respective kernel driver configured as a built-in, should the kernel configuration to also set the system clock from that RTC (RTC_HCTOSYS) be enabled by default? There is a dependency that the RTC be built-in as the kernel will try to read from the RTC rather early, before any loadable modules w…

During all my board migrations under 5.0.y, I've seen that copying OS into eMMC using "nand-sata-install", it now much faster !!! I don't know if it 5.0.y related or if some tweaks have been done to "nand-sata-install", but time shrink from 20minutes to 4 or 5minutes...

Just to let people know that since I'm running kernel 5.0.y, I found that most of the WiFi firmware is now trying to load their NVRAM using a new file naming scheme, for example : On my OrangePi3, it try to load "brcmfmac43455-sdio.xunlong,orangepi-3.txt" instead of the normal "brcmfmac43455-sdio.txt", until I copied the file, no WiFi available. On my OPiZeroPlus2, it try to load "brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.xunlong,orangepi-zero-plus2.txt", but on this one it seems to fall back using the normal file and WiFi is working. On my OPiLite2, it try to load "brcm/brcmfmac43455-sdio.pine64,pine-h64.txt", revealing a mistake in the DT compatible ... ... I will …

I'm a newbie to Armbian, just a hobby user, no company behind me. While building Armbian for my Banana Pi R1 (aka Lamobo R1) [Allwinner A20, sunxi] the build system gave the following warnings originating from the U-Boot project. I think some maintainers and/or experienced users should take a look at the following. ===================== WARNING ====================== This board does not use CONFIG_DM_MMC. Please update the board to use CONFIG_DM_MMC before the v2019.04 release. Failure to update by the deadline may result in board removal. See doc/driver-model/MIGRATION.txt for more info. ==================================================== …

In the following window the cursor keys (arrow up, down, left, right) aren't working: the raw terminal control chars appear instead. And the window is kind of "distorted" (for example the G char of General setup appears at the right side of the window, same with the following lines): Tried in a X console as well on tty8, same behavior. One can press only CTRL-C to get out of this window, this of course also aborts the build: How to fix this? I know this is not the correct area (I have no permissions to post there) but i'm looking to add some basic support for Odroid N2 (and a mainline linux kernel) which others can help utilise for development purposes. Its very early stages as the board was released to testers only weeks ago and for the moment only vendor uboot is working so what is best practice here for Armbian? The old Odroid C2 way of things with uboot might some back for a bit as much as I would like it or not. Baylibre and Neil Armstrong have made a very good start (Thanks Neil!!!!) with alpha style patches for 5.0 and N1. Although there priorities will be working to impleme…

A bit of software that might be interesting to those that wish to use the IO's of Pi type boards https://github.com/Nikolay-Kha/PyCNC Typically there is no way to control stepper motors from Linux runtime environment due to the lack of real time GPIO control. Even kernel based modules can not guarantee precise control of pulses for steppers. However, we can use a separate hardware module, DMA (Direct Memory Access) which provides high precision for GPIO outputs. This module can copy bytes which represent GPIO states from RAM buffer directly to GPIO with some clock based on main chip internal oscillator without using CPU's cores. Using such approach…

Just thought you developers might enjoy this... It uses a CRAZY cheap module, becomes a serial to wifi bridge, outputs on the module can then be connected to a standard serial tx/rx, 5v/gnd, and not only does it have a webgui, but also a web console https://github.com/jeelabs/esp-link The esp-link firmware connects a micro-controller to the internet using an ESP8266 Wifi module. It implements a number of features: transparent bridge between Wifi and serial, useful for debugging or inputting into a uC flash-programming attached Arduino/AVR microcontrollers and LPC800-series and other ARM microcontrollers via Wifi built-in stk500v1 p…

Hi there, I realized that in the documentation for Marvell Mainline SFP is listed as unsupported. ( https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Marvell/#mainline ) So I tested that with some SFP Module I had laying around (SFP -> 1Gbit/s TP, no fiber though), and everything seems to be working fine. I will attach armbianmonitor -u and some proof. Maybe you can then put SFP as supported for mainline armada. Armbianmonitor -u: http://ix.io/1APB Used module: https://www.ebay.de/itm/142747822671 (maybe this can also be added as tested to the download page) ethtool output with attached sfp module (and cable): root@…

Hi there, I've tried to migrate from my old 16.04 ubuntu build machine to 18.04 regarding the documentation there is no need for extra packages. To get compile.sh running I've added build-essentials, ccache, make & libpython. Now there is a problem with openssl/bio.h. Is there a complete list of packages needed? I've set up my VM using the ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso image. Is it solely failing by not using the mini.iso? Regards, Sebastian

Hi all, I'm doing experiments with WiFi monitor mode on AP6212(bcm43430)-based boards with nexmon (driver/fw patching framework for wifi monitor mode). Hi, running Armbian Ubuntu on Nanopi Neo2 and it is working really great. I would like to implement HPN-SSH but I can't compile any of the OpenSSH versions against OpenSSL 1.1.x present on system. Any idea if OpenSSL 1.1.x can be safely downgraded to the latest OpenSSL 1.0.x release? I would use for example the method described here Not sure if OpenSSL 1.0.x would break anything on the system or not? Thanks for your help and advise!

My objective is to boot Armbian on my NanoPi Neo2 from a network server. I've got Armbian running on the NanoPi Neo2 and u-boot recognizes the ethernet interface. Also, I have a DHCP server and TFTP server running. If I press space during start-up, I get in the U-boot environment. When I give the dhcp command in the U-boot environment, the NanoPi Neo2 get's an IP address and loads /boot/boot.scr from the network. So, the pre-requisites seem to work fine. But then.... I just can't figure out how to start Armbian (preferrably in read only mode) from the network. Maybe someone can tell me what needs to be done. I've got the following qu…

I find quite strange that CONFIG_DM_MIRROR is not set in the kernel. It makes impossible under lvm to have logical volume mirror, and I just experienced an impossibility to make a pvmove to change one drive for another one. All my filesystems are built upon lvm, the only possibility would be to rebuild a kernel. But I find it quite heavy, since I have to platforms bananapi and espressobin; and it needs to be done for each release. But why no have built dm-mirror as module with the usual CONFIG_DM_MIRROR=m ?

Stumbled across this while working on something else not ARM related, but it's pretty cool - since Armbian is looking at devices that have eMMC, this might be useful https://github.com/pepe2k/u-boot_mod Short story - it's a uBoot with a micro web server that supports flashing images, including uBoot itself - basically it turns things into a bit of a fail-safe as long as uBoot can execute... (those playing with the fire that is uBoot, keep your UART connections handy) Do I have some security concerns - absolutely yes... but no different than the UEFI that is on many x86 boards these days.

Sorry for this novice question, I am sure I am missing this in the documentation somewhere... When creating Armbian images using the included build system, I notice that the kernel is downloaded each time I run a build. This of course takes a decent amount of time to pull via git. Is there a way to simply point the build system to a local cached folder that already contains kernel sources already downloaded? That would speed up my iterations significantly. Thanks!

Hello, I'm new to Armbian which i just installed on a Rock64 board (Armbian_5.65_Rock64_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.162.7z). My goal is the write/port an application in C++ preferably by using Qt. Here, it is the problem. I tried to install it using command: sudo apt-get install qtcreator sudo apt-get install qt4-designer "Qt 4 Designer" seems installed correctly and seems working properly. Qt Creator was not installed completely, the IDE is installed but there i…

Prior to entering an issue... One of the challenges of using an image based install is how to cover to machine unique items... Good example here is the systemd-machine-id... some systemd units can use machine-id in place of gethostid... https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/machine-id.html It's supposed to be a unique qualifier for installation - but if this is written into the image, it's going to likely be the same for every image out there... Can always regen it on the shell - but this could also be in the first run script... $ cat /etc/machine-id \ && sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dbus/…

An issue I'm having right now has to do with the spidev driver, these boards don't have hardware spi where the Pi/Tinker does does, so I'm defining spi-gpio devices in the device tree. That part is fine. Where it gets interesting is setting up a spidev node under it. - Calling out a compatible = "spidev" works, enumerates, etc, but throws the typical ugly error during boot that it is wrong to do it that way. - Adding a compatible string to the…

ROCK64 is a RK3328 Quad-Core ARM Cortex A53 board with up to 4 GB of RAM. Unfortunately it has a non-functional RTC (/dev/rtc0), which is not battery backed. If your board is not connected to internet 7/24, you can not use the NTP or systemd-timesyncd. Therefore you need to connect a battery-backed external RTC module to the ROCK64 header, and get the time via the i2c protocol. The good news is, the GPIO headers on ROCK64 is compatible with Raspberry Pi headers. Therefore almost any Raspberry Pi RTC module will work on ROCK64. But you need to do some tweaking to communicate with the RTC module. I will explain the required steps which worked for me. 1. Buy an e…

Earlier today I pushed a fairy large patchset containing various functional improvements of many boards. If you have Allwinner board and some spare time: 1. Build DEV image/kernel with https://github.com/armbian/build (you need to add EXPERT="yes" to the config to unlock) 2. Install DEV kernel from beta repository Optional Defreeze kernel updates Switch to nightly kernel (armbian-config -> system -> Nightly) Reboot Switch to other kernel (armbian-config -> system -> Other -> DEV) When board came up, do some exploration. Most important information is to find out if there is a regression toward ker…

Hello! I do everything according to the instructions, but I get the same error every time: I'm using the latest version of Docker, include my user in Docker group, no spaces in full path to /build directory etc... In the error text clearly states that the required package is not found, but why?? Where it must be found? On another computer it's all fine worked and build, and version of host OS almost the same. I attached two files. The first is the output.log which is obtained with a successful build. I renamed it to builded.log Second is the output.log which is obtained with a UNsuccessful build. I renamed it to not_builded.log …

I was hoping that while moving to ASUS Tinker Board from a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ I would still be able to use my Google Voice Kit AIY (v1), but it looks like Armbian right now supports v2 only? I tried installing everything needed, but all I got were loads of error/not found messages. May I hope to be able to use the kit by some workarounds or do I have to stick with the Raspberry in the meantime? I am not really willing to spend extra money for some USB solution and I would like to fix it so that I can learn something new.

This may be a somewhat stupid question, but I just cannot find anything about it. I have custom-compiled the kernel for Allwinner A20/cubietruck as described here on a Virtual Box Ubuntu 18.04 Once done, I took the *.deb files out of output/debs, copied it to the machine and installed them. Everything worked fine and so far so good . But the "build" directory on the host with the compile.sh script is surprisingly empty. However, if I want to cross compile an additional kernel module on the virtual machine, how do I set this up? Is it enough to "make" with CROSS-COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf-? or do I also need to somehow consider the linaro stuff in c…

Hello, before even thinking about arranging a CSC board bring up pull request to armbian, I would be pleased to know if it sensible to do that for a TV Box which is not sold anymore but still quite powerful because of its rk3288 SoC. I made my own fork of armbian (see here). I tried to do things the most tidy way, following the best practices learnt from the documentation. The box has very good support now, but requires some initial setup to clean the eMMC. Also I made some customizations to kernel configs which, I guess, should be moved away (mali driver compiled by default, devfreq support, brcmfmac driver for AP6330 wifi, maybe other things...) …

Hi Team, With very straight forward documentation for building the image for Orange PI one board (All Winner H3), I was able build image. The experiment I am trying to do here is to run a simple service on boot (It may do nothing as of now, but should be listed as running when status is checked). Now since, the experiment is simple, I am trying to get some inputs on removing/excluding kernel modules that are not required and also build the image in release mode (not debug mode). Highly appreciate teams help in getting the inputs. Looking forward for the response. Thanks, Kedar

Good morning all, how are you?. I'm looking for help on knowing about the buffer strength on an H3 board, I've been looking on the H3 SoC datasheet and found this about GPIO's: Buffer Strength defines drive strength of the associated output buffer. but I don't know if the buffer is the entire port or not because I can't find any other reference to it and I don't want to fry the board. Can anyone explain me this?. Thanks in advance dor the help.

Hello, I know that when a new LTS kernel gets released, that has very considerable impact and importance here at Armbian. Are you stoked about the upcoming 4.19 release? I know I am. No doubt many forum members have their favorite "pet" boards, and will be eager to see some currently-"experimental" features become "stable". Which of these features matter the most to you? Can you give examples of which use cases you'll be most eager to get a 4.19 kernel into? Myself, I'll be excited to see which already-Supported boards get a new Armbian Stretch or Bionic released with 4.19. This will help me get a sense which boards (and SBC makers) have the …

Did anyone try to support a Xilinx Zynq (ARM A9 + FPGA) or ZynqMP (ARM A53 + FPGA) board? https://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon-devices/soc/zynq-ultrascale-mpsoc.html Xilinx provides Petalinux (https://www.xilinx.com/products/design-tools/embedded-software/petalinux-sdk.html), but I like the flexibility of Armbian. Namely the Network Manager. I recently just made a Debian Stretch Image for the ROC-RK3328-CC (Renegade) with the help of this and I would like to know for future reference, how to omit and add software to the final build. The build seemed to go fine and working like a charm, but Network Manager just gives me a headache and every now again doesn't come up during boot. Be real nice if I didn't have to depend on it or remove it after the fact, every time I wanna make a new image. Thanks!

I don't want to torture my SD card with full OS image rewrites or compilation on the device itself, so I would like to cross-compile. I just set up a ubuntu/bionic64 VirtualBox through Vagrant using https://github.com/armbian/build Currently, I don't want to build entire image or kernel from scratch but I noticed that compile.sh and related scripts contain many convenience functions and tools. I already started compile.sh once to let it prepare the virtual machine for cross-compile tasks and it successfully installed all the dependencies. I got especially interested in extras-buildpkgs folder. As I understand, I can put my own package d…

I'm curious as to why we explicitly specify CPUMIN and CPUMAX values in the Armbian board configs, for most/all boards... These values of course propagate their way into the MIN_SPEED and MAX_SPEED settings in the target /etc/default/cpufrequtils configuration file (e.g., see lib/makeboarddeb.sh). If these values aren't specified, then the cpufreq driver will base its speed ranges on what the underlying H/W supports (e.g., specified via the board DT(s)). So...if the underlying driver configuration provides the supported speed range, then we actually need to specify these values? I ask because I'm running my H5 boards with my overlays t…

You have a build framework that works pretty good, is it out of the question to have an extremely simple configuration framework? Maybe framework is more advanced than needed, probably just a script? It it doesn’t need to be part of the normal build process but could just simply inject a configuration profile into a completed rootfs, image or actual sd card Just the basics: Single network manager profile hostname default user and pass serial console config log2ram status remote login status (ssh, xrdp) I don’t mind writing a simple v0.1 to get started

Hi, Thank you for your interest, you won't be disappointed. You have probably read that the developer want to do some changes - and some of this changes are now ready to get tested in the BETA's of armbian. Do not test with your 'production' SDcard unless you have done a backup ;-) Once done that, please go to 'armbian-config' System switch to BETA (Nightly), do an update/upgrade, reboot, check if your system still performs as before. If it does work like before - please let us know and post your 'armbianmonitor -u' link If it doesn't work, please try a reboot, check if the problem is reproduceable and if so explain the s…

Hi every devs !
