U-boot is always a great source of amusement, did anyone try that combination? Just yesterday got v2018.05 in, and it just does not work. I don't get any serial from u-boot SPL, do I don't know what is happening. I compiled it with #define DEBUG, and still no serial output at all. At last I downloaded latest mainline u-boot (v2018.07-rc2) from github, applied manually the patches, complied and it worked. It seems something very specific for v2018.05 and rockchip/rk3288

A bit of software that might be interesting to those that wish to use the IO's of Pi type boards https://github.com/Nikolay-Kha/PyCNC Typically there is no way to control stepper motors from Linux runtime environment due to the lack of real time GPIO control. Even kernel based modules can not guarantee precise control of pulses for steppers. However, we can use a separate hardware module, DMA (Direct Memory Access) which provides high precision for GPIO outputs. This module can copy bytes which represent GPIO states from RAM buffer directly to GPIO with some clock based on main chip internal oscillator without using CPU's cores. Using such approach…

Hello everyone, I wanted to propose that the q8 tablets be included in the compilation script, I have several q8 tablets, at the beginning I used my own rootfs, but armbian is fantastic !! counting the modifications I make to the armbian rootfs I think it would be easy, in the firmware repository you already have the majority of hardware such as 8723 and other Wi-Fi chips, with respect to the uboot the templates that already incorporate the main repository work almost perfectly, no I know, could I help, I have the components, the dtb and the compiled uboot, how do you see it? Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Cubietruck that I was able to partly debug now, but I really like to have input from those who know more about this setup. On my Cubietruck (trusty, kernel 4.6.5-sunxi), I have a 120GB SSD (no-name brand) and added an ext4 partition and corresponding fstab line to mount it. Booting and mounting this partition works well when I cold start my system, and had powered it off before for a while. But when I do a warm start (sudo reboot), the system hangs on boot, quite reliably (it seems to occasionally work, though). I changed my kernel command line and added 'init=/bin/sh', started a 2nd bash terminal before replacing …

  9. Since about four weeks we encounter out of memory issues when building an Armbian image on GitHub with a customize-image.sh script. We had no big modifications on the build system since then, we have to rebuild from time to time to get the latest version of our application into the image. We already use a more powerful runner (32GB RAM, 8 cores). 15. Just started with creating custom images for an Orange Pi R1+ LTS board. In my build I'd like to compile some custom C++ applications using CMake, then install them onto the root file system to run on the board. Couldn't find much on this on the docs, though maybe I haven't looked hard enough! A couple of questions: I noticed the customize-image.sh script in the build repository - would amending this script be the intended method for this kind of functionality or is there another, better way? How would I provide CMake the relevant info to compile correctly for the board. Thanks in advance.

I followed the firefly docs to compile the firefly 4.4.114 kernel and build out the u-boot image. It actually worked. This is a very minimal install to the point where I have to modify the rootfs guide above to include the eth0 interface and probably install the network-manager. …

I've come across an issue in a package that I use that affects 32-bit platforms such as armv7 but not 64-bit platforms. 'Upstream' the idea to ship OS images with Firefox/Iceweasel has been dropped in the meantime due to horribly low performance in favour of chromium-browser. As far as I understood that's partially related to firefox acting single threaded (while Chromium uses all CPU cores). Here's longsleep's latest config and the mostly accepted 'fix' for Chromium complaining about running insecure due to missing sandboxing is disabling exactly this. (that's Hardkernel's method to 'fix' Chromium on ODROID-C2). Writing to a USB stick does not have the same effect on system performance. I tried changing the scheduler to CFQ (from noop) and it helped a lot. Has there been any testing on which scheduler is best? I assume noop performance will vary dependant on the SD controller? raspbian uses deadline as the default - https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=64702 Some very good info here: https://www.thomas-krenn.com/de/wiki/Linux_I/O_Scheduler

When I want to use them later as well for a multiboot scenario, so swtchable kernels, I need as well different names, so it is not only to rename the image files. USing Menuconfig, I could normally put a localization extension to it...when I do this, the image creation process fails as the system looking into wrong folder names. So, is there an alrernative path ? Or is this a bug ?

I tried to install it using command: sudo apt-get install qtcreator sudo apt-get install qt4-designer "Qt 4 Designer" seems installed correctly and seems working properly. 46. Finally got a SPI connected DS3234 RTC for my BananaPi working! Main problem was that a patch is needed to get SPI master mode working reliably on A20: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9567833/ @Igor/staff: it would make Armbian even better than it already is if you could apply this patch on all A20 boards Setup: BananaPi (bought back in 2015 so not exactly sure which "flavour" it is, specs are equal to BPI-M1) DS3234 RTC (SparkFun DeadOn RTC Breakout DS3234) Mainline kernel (4.10 currently) Armbian build/devopment (of course ) Note: wiring and base of DTS according to Science Gizmo - Raspberry PI and your SPI Rea…

Hi! Sorry if this is kind of wrong posting, but I had an failure on compiling first for the Banana Pi for the Debian Stretch, complette image but without any other changes. Just wanted to compile a complete image for the Banana Pi, but got an error that terminated the compilation. After that I made a new image with the Ubuntu version with any problems. Thought that it might have something to do with the old hardware so I tried to compile another one for the Asus Tinker board for the Debian Stretch, but that gave me similar problems with termination of the compilation. Here is the some few lines of the output chip_5.34_all.deb". [ o.k.…

  50. Hello Everyone, I would like to share my experience about how to boot Orange Pi almost silently in console mode (eliminate a lot of kernel messages on startup) without desktop and remove cursor blinking that can cause black rectangle appearing over white background, when painting to framebuffer. Many options that proposed as being able to reduce kernel messages on boot didn't work for me. So based on Armbian documentation I started to experience with armbianEnv.txt file in the /boot folder. The extraargs setting was not part of the default armbianEnv.txt file, but appeared in BOOT.CMD file. The setting extraargs=vt.global_cursor_default=0 quiet sol…

Sorry for this novice question, I am sure I am missing this in the documentation somewhere... When creating Armbian images using the included build system, I notice that the kernel is downloaded each time I run a build. This of course takes a decent amount of time to pull via git. Is there a way to simply point the build system to a local cached folder that already contains kernel sources already downloaded? That would speed up my iterations significantly. Thanks!

Happy new year everyone, I am working on a project where I want to control two brushed DC motors equipped with a magnetic encoder and driven by a H-bridge circuit. All this has to be done on a tiny arm board (with enough cpu power for other computations), and I decided to go for the NanoPi NEO Air. I compiled the actual mainline Kernel with realtime capability (turned PREEEMTIVE on in menuconfig, hope that's enough) and debian streched. One issue might be the tight and constraining timing when sampling the magnetic encoder, which generates two 1.6kHz (about 0.6ms) pulses for each motor. I guess it would be best to get an interrupt generated at each…

What would users have a single point of entry into the build system (the main armbian GIT/build), I propose to add into the main master branch additional variable that will be used in the script "compile.sh" to specify what branch to use when building. This will allow to quickly combine the main branch to build images Armbian with my fork for assembling the images for TV boxes and boards based on the Amlogic platform. Under the add , my changes do not conflict with the existing system in the main branch and at the same time, users will be able to collect their own versions based on the amlogic branch of a single GIT…

From Armbian documentation (https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Allwinner_overlays/) Most in-circuit and GPIO based interfaces (SPI, I2C, I2S, …) don’t have a mechanism for detecting and identifying devices connected to the bus, so Linux kernel has to be told explicitly about the device and its configuration details. While Device Tree is a way of describing hardware configuration to the kernel, Device Tree overlays are a way for modifying the DT in order to provide the kernel and kernel drivers with details about external devices or to activate interfaces disabled by default. 82. Dear Armbian ARM64 6.6.x kernel people: Orange Pi 5 delivers incorrect larger SCTP chunks to SCTP. from lower IP stack in kernel. This can be seen from the computed CRC-32 checksum below. The packet length is right. This CRC-32 checksum process works correctly on OpenSuSE x86_64 Tumbleweed with kernel 6.5.4-1. It also works correctly on Armbian ARM64 5.10.110. Hence we believe the IP code is faulty in the 6.6.x kernel "stable rolling release" from Armbian. This SCTP driver is used in Telecom by companies like Nokia and Ericsson instead of Linux kernel SCTP and we would like to get it working on the OrangePi 5. Shorter packets like the SCT…

  97. Started by Irene,

We are starting a HW design for a board that will probably be using RK3328. We want this board to be running Armbian. We need to select BT and Wifi chips. Would like to use chips that are already supported by Armbian. Is there a list of Bluetooth and Wifi chips that Armbian supports? Any recommendations?

  98. I used the buster version and when I typed armbian-confg->system->hardware, there is nothing display except some square brackets. Anybody know why?
