  1. This cycle centers on expanded board and SoC support, kernel maintenance across sunxi, rockchip, and sophgo families, and infrastructure refinements to installer, extensions, and CI tooling. New platform enablement covers a broad range of vendors and architectures. Notable additions include the EmbedFire LubanCat 3 v2 and Seeed reComputer RK3576 devkits, the TQ-Systems MBa62xx/MBa67xx TI K3 boards, the Tanix TX6s (Allwinner H616), and the ZTL A568 (RK3568). The Allwinner A733 line advances with a full HDMI display pipeline (DE33/RCQ), PCIe/NVMe, and U-Boot 2026.07 integration for sun55iw3, while the Sophgo SG200x family bumps edge to 7.2, gains TPU support for the Milk-V Duo S, and doubles the /boot partition to 256 MB. Kernel work spans multiple maintenance streams. The sunxi 6.18 and 7.2 patch sets were rewritten against upstream changes, with fixes for a sun8i_thermal NULL-caldata Oops that also resolves a reboot hang, and a correction for H616/H618 analog LINEOUT playing at half speed. Rockchip receives an RK3588 SDMMC fix for bus-width > 1, plymouth and ttyGS0 gadget console improvements on RK35xx, and Radxa E24C network fixes. Amlogic meson64 gains GPIO wakeup sources, PCIe port service requirements, and a rebased MPS series, while the cix-6.18 sky1 PDC driver was converted to the new syscore API. Tooling and distribution changes improve reliability and lifecycle handling. A new backward-compatible switch-alias mechanism formalizes deprecation, armbian-install gains an "spi" mode for self-contained boot on NVMe, SATA, or USB, and armbian_firmware now installs linux-headers before linux-image to satisfy first-pass DKMS. GitHub release lookups are checked and authenticated with GITHUB_TOKEN propagated through CI, kernel-deb postinst symlinks are made resilient to hook failures, and download-external mirrors only the newest version of each package to reduce archive bloat. #Armbian #EmbeddedLinux #Rockchip #Allwinner #KernelDevelopment Changesa bunch of cosmetics across board configs, and removed outdated readmes. 3. This week's work centers on new board and SoC enablement, a broad wireless driver and firmware overhaul, and continued kernel, boot, and installer refinements. Board support expanded on multiple fronts. A new RK3562 family was introduced alongside the KICKPI K3B with mainline U-Boot and Linux, and mainline 7.2 bring-up landed for the S5P6818 platform covering NanoPC-T3+, NanoPi M3, and Fire3. The FriendlyELEC NanoPi R28S, Wildfire Lubancat 3 v2, OrangePi CM5 Base edition, and SpacemiT Musebook (current branch) were added, while the Mixtile Edge2 and Blade 3, Orange Pi 5 Max/Ultra, and Banana Pi M2 Ultra received targeted fixes for Bluetooth, eMMC, Ethernet, and thermal behavior. Wireless support saw substantial cleanup and expansion. The rtl8723ds driver underwent an extensive warning-elimination pass — addressing -Wmissing-prototypes, -Wempty-body, -Wmaybe-uninitialized, -Wrestrict, and -Warray-bounds findings — with parallel improvements to rtl8189es/fs, rtl8192eu, rtl8852bs, and uwe5622. Firmware additions include MT7986 Wi-Fi and Airoha EN8811H blobs, AIC8800 D80 SDIO names, and AP6212 NVRAM for S5P6818 boards, complemented by Bluetooth and 5 GHz Wi-Fi fixes on Rockchip and AYN Odin 2 targets. On the platform side, the mainline kernel was bumped to 7.3-rc2, a critical stmmac resume-ordering backport restores Ethernet after suspend on RK3588, and sunxi 6.18 and 7.2 gained fixes for eMMC boot hangs and post-reboot Ethernet loss. The installer engine now supports extlinux boards and native USB/NVMe boot on RPi-style hardware, zram-config was corrected for modern kernels, and BSP changes make SSH host key regeneration power-loss safe. Build infrastructure improvements include ORAS gitball use for U-Boot, better shallow-export handling during merge windows, and expanded CI coverage. #Armbian #EmbeddedLinux #Rockchip #SBC #KernelDevelopment ChangesAdd board image for lubancat-3-v2. by @igorpecovnik in armbian/armbian.github.io#450Add board-images/bananapir3mini.png. by @igorpecovnik in armbian/armbian.github.io#445Add CI to build kernel module on chance. by @EvilOlaf in armbian/wifi-rtl8852bs#29add watchdog for failed workflows. by @EvilOlaf in armbian/wifi-rtl8852bs#30aic8800: add generic D80 SDIO firmware names. by @sormy in armbian/firmware#138aml-c400-plus: fix boot chain migration and resolve OverlayFS CI failure. by @jomadeto in armbian/build#10682aml-c400-plus: migrate to modern U-Boot v2026.07 and improve boot chain. by @jomadeto in armbian/build#10548arm64: dts: rockchip: add FriendlyELEC NanoPi R28S. by @wukibaka in armbian/linux-rockchip#542arm64: dts: rockchip: add Wildfire Lubancat 3 v2. by @hqnicolas in armbian/linux-rockchip#549arm64: dts: rockchip: mixtile-edge2: fix Bluetooth wake GPIOs and enable eMMC HS400ES. by @evtest-hash in armbian/linux-rockchip#544armbian-install: sd mode on RPi-style boards, + native (full USB/NVMe boot). by @igorpecovnik in armbian/configng#1021Ayn Odin 2: add SDL gamepad mappings. by @Clownacy in armbian/build#10681AYN Odin2 updates. 5. There is likely a memory leak somewhere. Quick search does not reveal how much real RAM this XU4 has so please can you mention that. I only know it is 32-bit Samsung Exynos SoC. But 6GB of swap makes no sense I assume unless you have a very dedicated use-case with a small working-set but mayb lager virtual memory needed over a long period of time, much longer than lowest speed random 4kB I/O spoeed for your storage. Still no proper option if there is a memory leak. Main question is, how is your swap space organized? I hope you know Btrfs needs dedicated command to set up swapspace on the filesystem. But maybe you used separate swap partition, that is at least what I do on all computers, also on ancient RaspberryPi1 with 512M RAM and Btrfs rootfs with option compress-force=zstd for many years. Same for NanoPi-NEO's, including a variant with just 256M RAM. I disable Armbian zram swap mostly, so please also mention how and if you use that. The kernels on mentioned systems are 6.18 based and even 7.1.8-edge-sunxi runs without issues. But 6.6 and Exynos I am not so sure how robust/stable that is under load. Also what profile are you using? Please show output of: sudo btrfs device usage /
  6. Hello. Thanks for the reply. Since a new version has been released yesterday, I give it a try and no dice. The module ssv6051 shipped with the kernel does not work in my tv-box, it gives lots of trace in dmesg and the error "RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted". For now I switch to stable channel, installed the driver by @eloirotava and hold the kernel, headers and firmware packages. 7. Hi @Werner, So i have some good news. I managed to install properly the CIX-acpi KDE image : CIX-acpi images Armbian 1) At first, my network is a 2.5G LAN so the network is not functional at the very first boot / installation. Plugged it in a 1Gbit and the link is up. However, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were still not detected. 2) I ran a full sudo apt update / upgrade The "magic trick" that made all network functions work was: sudo apt install armbian-firmware-full After that, Wi-Fi and BT are fully operational, and it seems to have activated the major ACPI devices. I can even connect my BT audio amplifier. Video acceleration also appears to be working well. ( For example I can take advantage of my 144Hz screen... and 2.5 Gbit LAN is fine... ) So i can connect it my BT audio amplifier. I'm attaching the dmesg debug output in case it can help. dmesg.txt giovanni@cix-acpi:~$ lsmod | column -t Module Size Used by uinput 28672 1 snd_seq_dummy 12288 0 snd_hrtimer 12288 1 snd_seq 98304 7 snd_seq_dummy rfcomm 98304 4 snd_seq_device 16384 1 snd_seq qrtr 45056 2 algif_hash 16384 1 algif_skcipher 12288 1 af_alg 28672 6 algif_hash,algif_skcipher bnep 32768 2 dm_mod 180224 0 bfq 102400 10 sunrpc 696320 1 snd_soc_hdmi_codec 24576 3 optee_rng 12288 0 binfmt_misc 24576 1 zram 53248 2 842_decompress 20480 1 zram 842_compress 24576 1 zram lz4hc_compress 20480 1 zram lz4_compress 24576 1 zram btusb 73728 0 btrtl 32768 1 btusb btintel 69632 1 btusb btbcm 24576 1 btusb btmtk 28672 1 btusb nls_ascii 12288 1 bluetooth 921600 40 btrtl,btmtk,btintel,btbcm,bnep,btusb,rfcomm nls_cp437 16384 1 vfat 24576 1 fat 98304 1 vfat ecdh_generic 16384 2 bluetooth aes_ce_blk 32768 4 aes_ce_cipher 12288 1 aes_ce_blk polyval_ce 12288 0 ghash_ce 20480 0 gf128mul 16384 1 ghash_ce sha3_ce 16384 0 mt7921e 24576 0 mt7921_common 77824 1 mt7921e mt792x_lib 65536 2 mt7921e,mt7921_common mt76_connac_lib 86016 3 mt792x_lib,mt7921e,mt7921_common mt76 147456 4 mt792x_lib,mt7921e,mt7921_common,mt76_connac_lib mac80211 1314816 4 mt792x_lib,mt76,mt7921_common,mt76_connac_lib cfg80211 1159168 4 mt76,mac80211,mt7921_common,mt76_connac_lib snd_hda_codec_alc269 131072 1 snd_hda_scodec_component 20480 1 snd_hda_codec_alc269 rfkill 40960 9 mt7921e,bluetooth,cfg80211 snd_hda_codec_realtek_lib 57344 1 snd_hda_codec_alc269 libarc4 12288 1 mac80211 snd_hda_codec_generic 106496 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek_lib,snd_hda_codec_alc269 ramoops 28672 0 reed_solomon 20480 1 ramoops snd_hda_cix_ipbloq 24576 1 optee 69632 0 snd_hda_codec 184320 4 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek_lib,snd_hda_codec_alc269,snd_hda_cix_ipbloq ffa_core 20480 1 optee trilin_dpsub 131072 0 snd_hwdep 20480 1 snd_hda_codec tee 45056 2 optee,optee_rng snd_hda_core 135168 5 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_realtek_lib,snd_hda_codec_alc269,snd_hda_cix_ipbloq snd_soc_sky1_card 24576 0 snd_soc_cdns_i2s_mc 24576 6 drm_display_helper 233472 1 trilin_dpsub snd_soc_rt5682s 90112 0 panthor 176128 42 cec 61440 1 drm_display_helper amvx 344064 0 drm_gpuvm 40960 1 panthor rc_core 65536 1 cec videobuf2_dma_sg 20480 1 amvx linlon_dp 147456 10 snd_soc_core 360448 4 snd_soc_sky1_card,snd_soc_hdmi_codec,snd_soc_cdns_i2s_mc,snd_soc_rt5682s gpu_sched 57344 1 panthor videobuf2_memops 16384 1 videobuf2_dma_sg drm_exec 12288 2 drm_gpuvm,panthor drm_client_lib 12288 1 linlon_dp videobuf2_v4l2 32768 1 amvx drm_shmem_helper 28672 1 panthor drm_dma_helper 24576 2 linlon_dp squashfs 77824 9 videodev 335872 2 videobuf2_v4l2,amvx snd_compress 28672 1 snd_soc_core drm_kms_helper 217088 6 drm_dma_helper,linlon_dp,trilin_dpsub,drm_shmem_helper,drm_display_helper,drm_client_lib snd_pcm_dmaengine 16384 1 snd_soc_core snd_pcm 172032 8 snd_hda_codec,snd_soc_hdmi_codec,snd_compress,snd_soc_core,snd_soc_cdns_i2s_mc,snd_hda_core,snd_soc_rt5682s,snd_pcm_dmaengine videobuf2_common 77824 4 videobuf2_v4l2,videobuf2_dma_sg,amvx,videobuf2_memops snd_timer 45056 3 snd_seq,snd_hrtimer,snd_pcm loop 32768 18 mc 77824 3 videodev,videobuf2_v4l2,videobuf2_common snd 126976 17 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_codec,snd_soc_hdmi_codec,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_realtek_lib,snd_compress,snd_hda_codec_alc269,snd_soc_core,snd_hda_cix_ipbloq,snd_pcm cppc_cpufreq 24576 0 soundcore 16384 1 snd sg 40960 0 joydev 32768 0 evdev 28672 11 i2c_dev 24576 0 efi_pstore 12288 0 configfs 57344 1 efivarfs 24576 0 autofs4 53248 2 btrfs 1888256 0 blake2b_generic 20480 0 xor 12288 1 btrfs xor_neon 16384 1 xor raid6_pq 106496 1 btrfs nvme 53248 0 i2c_hid_acpi 12288 0 sbsa_gwdt 12288 0 i2c_hid 40960 1 i2c_hid_acpi drm 712704 40 gpu_sched,i2c_hid,drm_kms_helper,drm_exec,drm_dma_helper,linlon_dp,drm_gpuvm,trilin_dpsub,drm_shmem_helper,drm_display_helper,drm_client_lib,panthor nvme_core 200704 1 nvme nvme_keyring 20480 1 nvme_core r8169 118784 0 nvme_auth 28672 1 nvme_core hkdf 12288 1 nvme_auth fixed 16384 0 realtek 45056 2 pwm_bl 16384 0 arm_dma350 28672 3 cdns3_pci_wrap 16384 0 sd_mod 73728 2 hid_generic 12288 0 usbhid 77824 0 hid 266240 3 i2c_hid,usbhid,hid_generic uas 28672 2 usb_storage 86016 1 uas scsi_mod 282624 4 sd_mod,usb_storage,uas,sg scsi_common 16384 5 scsi_mod,sd_mod,usb_storage,uas,sg One question: what is the real difference between the MinisForum dedicated section images and these CIX ACPI dedicated section board images? 8. Is it actually zram and not zswap you are using? They are not the same thing and should not be running simultaneously, zswap will take president over zram. And isn't it a partition you want? Where is that partition located? If zram: Make sure you are actually using zram before doing any of this, dmesg should probably tell you: 'sudo dmesg | grep zram', or 'zramctl' should tell you if it is in use, if not it will return nothing. If you are, did you try to blacklist the module? "echo 'blacklist zram' >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" Or mask the service? 'sudo systemctl mask systemd-zram.service' (or whatever the service is called, check with 'systemctl --type swap') I agree with that it should work with your config, but if it doesn't, a blacklist of the module should make it impossible for the kernel to load it after a reboot. If zswap: 'sudo dmesg | grep zswap' or 'cat /sys/module/zswap/parameters/enabled' (Y or N if it's enabled or not) If it's zswap you want to disable, it IS the kernel parameter 'zswap.enabled=0' But you don't have to disable this to use a "classic" partition, you can just mkswap & swapon as usual. (and swapoff if there is anything you want to remove) https://chrisdown.name/2026/03/24/zswap-vs-zram-when-to-use-what.html
  9. I always get the same 3.8GB Zswap partition, which strangely is not even the size specified in armbian-zram-config (I have an 8GB board) I don't know what to try anymore
  10. Orange Pi 4A (Allwinner T527 / A523, sun55i-a523) — new mainline image coming in a few days Hi all, A quick heads-up for anyone following the Orange Pi 4A / Allwinner T527 (A523) mainline effort: a new image, v0.3, is coming in the next few days. It's based on mainline Linux 6.18 (longterm) and it's a decent step up from v0.2, so I wanted to give some advance notice. What's new in v0.3: Hardware video decode (VPU): H.264/H.265 decoded on the Cedar VPU — smooth video in the bundled web browser (WebKitGTK), using Allwinner's own cedar + libcedarc stack. GNOME on Wayland (replaces Plasma), accelerated by Panfrost (Mali-G57). The X11 session is intentionally not used — Wayland is much faster on this GPU for both desktop and video. Low-RAM fix: compressed in-RAM swap (zram) is on by default, so the 2 GB board stays responsive under a browser + video instead of freezing. Robustness: the VPU driver now survives a client crashing mid-decode without wedging the board, plus a round of code-audit fixes across the clock, PCIe, DRM, VPU and audio-codec drivers. Everything from before still works: display/KMS, GPU, HDMI + analog audio (headphones with jack detection), Ethernet, WiFi, USB, PCIe/NVMe (not yet tested with a real drive), thermal and cpufreq/DVFS. How it's built: on top of mainline Linux and public community work (linux-sunxi, Armbian and others — credited in the tree), with Allwinner's public documentation and vendor BSP as the hardware reference, plus the project's own patches, each one validated on real hardware. Some of this has been posted to the linux-sunxi / upstream lists and picked up by maintainers. This is a spare-time hobby project, shared as-is (async, no live support). Sources, patches and images are on GitHub — I'll post here again when the release is up: GitHub: https://github.com/ut-slayer/orangepi-4a-mainline Testers and feedback are very welcome. Thanks!

My KVM is image on NVME on ROCK5B, so fastest available more or less for 'cheap' ARM64 SBC. To compare: Domoticz did run OK with about the same amount of objects on a NanoPi-NEO (4x Cortex-A7, 512MiB, SD-card). It still does, but I moved most objects to a 2x Cortex-A55 1G RAM (KVM on same ROCK5B). # free -m total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 963 330 77 2 635 632 Swap: 981 45 936 BUT I see also something with 'containers' when ZigBee in my google search. I would maybe see what exactly is needed. After many years, I also figured out that my 433MHz transceiver internally is just a 38k4 serial thing tied to an serial-to-USB chip. It was driven as serial port by Domoticz via USBIP on that NanoPi-NEO, but that needs explicit sync/reconnect actions at reboot. Now done via ser2net, swapping/replacing the device from serial to LAN in Domoticz, same database history, no actions at reboot/powercycle and with ser2net point-to-multipoint, also also available to multiple softwares in the home LAN or VPN etc if needed. Of course respecting write/send operations to be exclusive, just one. Same ser2net trick with electricity meter, that is why I can easily run HA/HAOS simultaneously with my normal home automation software stuff.
  12. I changed allocated RAM for the virtual machine from 2G to 1G, still 4x Cortex-A55 vCPUs from RK3588 ROCK5B yesterday. 13. @Nick_Sl @bickns — CLI/headless image is coming. It's the same debootstrap base and the same kernel, just without Plasma/Mesa/Discover, so it's mostly "subtracting", not extra work — a small ~300–500 MB image. Nick, I'll ping you when there's something to test. 🙂 Before I build it: is there anything you'd want baked in by default? Thinking headless/server use — things like NetworkManager vs systemd-networkd, docker/podman, python3, build tools, an ssh-only footprint, zram on by default, etc. If you tell me your use case I'll pick sane defaults rather than guessing. Good news on audio in the meantime: both HDMI and the analog 3.5 mm jack are working now (with jack-detect hotplug), so that's no longer a blocker for either image.
  14. @bedna Thanks for the pointers, I'll try tonight or tomorrow. And yes, my plan was to set up a swap file on the SSD. @SteeMan I don't know if I'm doing something else wrong, but on my /etc/default/armbian-zram-config I have ENABLED=false and SWAP=false, but I keep seeing the swap mounted on lsblk and listed on htop
  15. Or probably the easier way is to edit /etc/default/armbian-zram-config
  16. @Biasio95 Wait, I'm an idiot, the kernel parameter disables zSWAP, not zram. sry. Try "swapoff /dev/zram0" (or whatever the dev is named) and then remove the module with "modprobe -r zram" "echo 'blacklist zram' >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf", add another swap and reboot. Or you could disable the zram-generator with the kernel parameter "systemd.zram=0", that way no zram should be able to be created. One of the methods should work, but I have not actually tried it on armbian, so there might be configs that can throw errors if you just remove the module, IDK. If not, read: https://docs.kernel.org/admin-guide/blockdev/zram.html#add-remove-zram-devices and remove the device in /sys/class/zram-control/hot_remove, I would assume that would stick. I assume you know how to setup a "normal" swap partition, because running without swap altogether is prob not a good idea.
  17. @bedna I tried disabling zram, both with armbian-config (so disabling it in /etc/default/armbian-zram-config) and also adding extraargs=zswap.enabled=0 on /boot/armbianEnv.txt, but the swap still show up htop and mounted in the lsblk output. What am I missing?
  18. Theoretically no, because the game won't occupy all the ram, so when you start to fill it up, the kernel should start compressing and move other stuff to zram, but theory is not always how it works in practicality. As for how to disable zram, add zswap.enabled=0 to your kernel parameters and it won't be available after a reboot. To stop zram during operation, IIRC, stop (not disable) systemd-zram-setup@zram0.service. If it's not you should be able to figure out what to stop by listing relevant unit files with systemctl --type swap
  19. You disable the zram swap, I forgot how, I think look in /etc/default/ambian* files. Else disable or mask the specific .service file.
  20. Thanks for the reply @eselarm. I was wondering if the install script was doing more than just flashing the SPI and cloning the partition, but if that's all it does I'm good. Regarding Zram and ramlog, I'm not concerned about how much the Nvme SSD gets written, I mainly use the Rock 5B as a low power NAS for temporary files, it downloads a ton of stuff that get shared on the other devices on my LAN, and after a while the files get deleted, so the work load is already more intense than what a bit of swapping and logging is going to do. But I sometimes use it to host simple game servers for my friends, so from time to time I need all the possible RAM, would disabling ZRAM and ramlog be beneficial, considering the SSD is fast enough to act as an efficient swap?
  21. As far as my experience is, there is no difference in final result if you do manual 'install' like you did. It runs the usual (user) setup scripts. It is even the same when you start an image as container, done that many times for various platforms. In fact writing SPI-flash is non-automatic, is manual as can be quite invasive. With modern ARM64 SBC like ROCK5B also people might threat it like a PC, with difference that PC comes with a motherboard that has already firmware/bootloader/UEFI/BIOS written by the manufacturer. Although some motherbaords also can use open source, like coreboot I think, but guessing. What to do as further tuning and customization depends on what you want to do with the ROCK5B. There is 1.5 decades between the single core ARMv6 based RaspberryPi1 and the current high-end SBC's that are 100x faster and can be treated like an Intel/AMD PC. I actually have no NVME for x86-64 (is still SATA SSD although also M.2 slot as well), but use my 500GB Samsung 970 EVO+ in the ROCK5B. I use Btrfs and compress-force=zstd for almost all Linux rootfs, so always create an extra swap partition, although a swapfile also works nowadays with special create options. I rather not use the (currently very expensive) RAM for swap when 4-lane PCIE v3 NVME is there. But that is also because my ROCK5B acts as a server, containers and KVM etc and also I use the RAM and NVME for caching a large HDD. So in terms of wear of flash storage, that caching is just way more demanding than what happens on a decade old SD-card only SBC. But NVME/SATA SSD's have perfectly readable stats and many good brands can write more TeraBytes than the specs mention from manufacturer. SD-cards can be very poorly design internally, and have no stats. So you simply don't know when they will break. If the SBC only does some simple things like camera streaming or some sensor's on GPIO pins, it makes sense to keep as much as possible in RAM. So then just keep it like it is. Or even disable journal to non-volatile storage if never any issues and only enable if troubles. One problem I had with zram swap is that on a 256MiB NanoPi-NEO, it failed when media streaming under memory pressure. mp3 or opus or h264 etc don't compress and can still buffer a lot, so the OOM killer started acting. I was not able to change the whole media stuff so stopped zram swap and put swap on normal extra swap partition.
  22. Hi, I just switched from an ancient ubuntu-rockchip install to armbian ubuntu 26.04 with the mainline kernel. I did a bit of an unorthodox installation, I wanted to install on an nvme drive, and instead of using a microSD and then copying the system with armbian-install, since I didn't have a working microsd available I did a "manual" installation, I flashed rkspi_loader.img into the SPI taken from the armbian image and then flashed the armbian img directly to the nvme drive with an usb adapter from my PC. All is good and working fine, but I'm wondering if I'm missing any settings that gets applied during the armbian-install process (are there any?) that are specific for nvme. And regarding Zram, ram2log and other optimizations that armbian uses for SDs, how should I configure them? My setup is a Radxa Rock 5B with 8GB of RAM with a Samsung 970 evo plus, should I disable zram and create a swapfile? Any other setting to look out for? I think my hdparm -t speed is a bit low, around 1300 MB/s. Thanks in advance
  23. @eselarm Good question, not yet sure what to do. First off, new stock Raspbian worked (for me) out of the box, at least for both V4L2 and libcamera. I'd have yelled at them if they didn't, as that's Raspberry hardware and software up and down the stack, so they have no excuses. I mostly want to use libcamera, but for me, libcamera and V4L2 were in total agreement on both Raspbian and Armbian. On Raspbian, both detected the IMX708, and on Armbian, neither did -- or, rather, /dev/video0 never got set up, despite the module loading fine and dmesg logging it in Armbian. To add, also, with the zram swap system in place, I can't actually compile libcamera (or the apps) on the Armbian Zero 2W, due to lack of memory (!). I ran out the will to work around that at the time. So I built the Debian libcamera packages (all of them) on a Pi 5 and copied them over. Only the trixie-backports modules actually ran through okay, but they did. That seemed to work fine -- and as I said, neither V4L2 nor libcamera set up an accessible camera device -- and they agree -- so I think the issue is kernel-side, not in userspace. I suspect it's in the device tree somewhere. My guess is if we get V4L2 happy, then libcamera will be. The main advantage of V4L2 is that the device list is a clear tell for camera detection on boot, one that doesn't need a much installation work. Also, I didn't yet get to the rpicam apps framework. I will, because I actually use it for the cow I want to deploy. But that's an extra layer beyond libcamera itself. the standard libcamera-tools package contains the cam binary which is enough to detect devices. If I can get V4L2 happy, or if cam can capture an image, then I know the kernel side is fine, and it's all my problem. I'll be happy to take it from that point. Your point about raspi-firmware is very helpful. That would fit some of what I've seen here. I'll dig in and check on that. I would not assume it's using a Raspberry vendor kernel. I didn't try that. And Broadcom shenanigans apart, I hope I don't need to. What's weird is the IMX708 kernel module is definitely loaded and active and detecting the hardware on the Armbian Debian trixie. Most of the Broadcom stuff is there -- all the hardware encoders show up. Just not the camera itself. Many thanks -- I'll dig in today and see if I can progress.
  24. I attempted to file a bug using `reportbug`, but since the kernel package is from Armbian and the report went to Debian, I assume that is a dead end. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1137721 I will mostly copy/paste from that report, here, but I also ran `armbianmonitor -u`. https://paste.armbian.com/wenegucita I run a home backup server with a 1TB SSD attached to an ODroid HC1 board. There is no redundancy, but I do keep a limited history of snapshots, taken hourly and trimmed down to a small number of hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly snapshots. There should be at most about 20 snapshots existing at a time. I have a daily cron job to run a balance operation. The mount point is `/backup` . If not, I might suggest that the warnings and errors could be improved, but I am open to correction if I just failed to understand what they are telling me. status: -30 I tried balancing data, starting with low usage limits and moving up to no limit. That all went smoothly. The problem still occurred when trying to balance metadata, but the extent buffer number named in dmesg errors changed. I do not know whether that is significant or whether balancing data should be expected to be of any benefit in this situation. I did not keep full context from dmesg, but these are the commands issued: btrfs balance start -dusage=1 /backup btrfs balance start -dusage=10 /backup btrfs balance start -dusage=50 /backup btrfs balance start -dusage=75 /backup btrfs balance start -dusage=85 /backup btrfs balance start -dusage=95 /backup btrfs balance start -d /backup Most of those were pretty fast. The last one took several hours. I also checked my SSD for SMART errors, running a short self test and then a long one. No errors are reported. I do not know whether this is an architecture specific bug. It may be specific to 32 bit systems, or to ARM 32 bit, or it may not. I do not know whether this is an upstream bug, but it seems likely. The behavior in question seems to be related to the btrfs kernel component. The recommended fix is to attach the SSD to a 64 bit system to complete any operations requiring addresses that cannot be handled by the 32 bit system. I have not done that, yet, and I will hold off for a while, as it seems like that will only be a temporary fix. If I can gather any more relevant information while the system is still in this state, please let me know. -- System Information: Debian Release: 13.4 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: armhf (armv7l) Kernel: Linux 6.6.122-current-odroidxu4 (SMP w/8 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -- no debconf information
  25. Hi, still have problem with 5C lite and NVME. When i boot form SD, lsblk shows ZRAM, MMCBLK and NVME - when I install Armbian to NVME it boots from SSD only once and then, after seting up user and enviroment lsblk shows only zram and nvme...and next boot is KO. I have tried all the magic with SPI overlay on RADXA OS, in lsblk there is zram, mmcblk1 with three partitions and nvme - but when updating SPI BOOT, there is following error: radxa@rock-5c:~$ lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS mmcblk1 179:0 0 29G 0 disk ├─mmcblk1p1 179:1 0 16M 0 part /config ├─mmcblk1p2 179:2 0 300M 0 part /boot/efi └─mmcblk1p3 179:3 0 28.6G 0 part / zram0 253:0 0 7.8G 0 disk [SWAP] nvme0n1 259:0 0 953.9G 0 disk └─nvme0n1p1 259:1 0 944.3G 0 part radxa@rock-5c:~$ sudo rsetup [sudo] password for radxa: /usr/lib/u-boot/rock-5c-spi/setup.sh: line 3: ERROR_REQUIRE_FILE: readonly variable /usr/lib/u-boot/rock-5c-spi/setup.sh: line 4: ERROR_ILLEGAL_PARAMETERS: readonly variable /usr/lib/u-boot/rock-5c-spi/setup.sh: line 5: ERROR_REQUIRE_TARGET: readonly variable /dev/mtd0 is missing. also kernel is weird... radxa@rock-5c:~$ uname -r 6.1.84-8-rk2410 I'm maybe too carefull, but I know, I wouldn't be able to fix broken bootloader:-] So please help, if you can Tried both vendor and current kernels (6.18 and 6.1) but results are the same Regards Jan
