Hi, When I put a heavy load on my NanoPi NEO2, it locks up. The ethernet light keeps flashing, so there is still something alive? After a power reset, the NEO2 works again. I've already put a CPU fan on my CPU. CPU temp is at 25 degrees Celsius in rest, and goes up to 37 degrees Celsius under the heavy load. The heavy load is a "make -j4" of a C source code project Tips how to solve this? sander@nanopineo2:~$ while true; do date ; uptime ; cat /etc/armbianmonitor/datasources/soctemp; sleep 2; done | tee mijn-log.txt Tue Aug 22 11:46:37 UTC 2017 11:46:37 up 5:24, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 28342 …

I have been working with the legacy Ubuntu on this board with great success - and now on the latest nightly build of Ubuntu ARMBIAN 5.32.170921 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.11.12-sun8i All is well, thanks to this command added to /boot/armbianEnv.txt overlays=uart1 uart2 uart3 i2c0 i2c1 I can now see all the ports - and both I2c channels - the ONLY issue I have is that UART0 is occupied doing serial debug and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to turn this off. I do not need a serial debug port and would rather use this as a general purpose serial port. When I try however, debug info comes out.. Can someone tell me…

Hello :), I have updated my system from "Armbian_5.35_Debian_jessie_3.4.113" to latest "Armbian_5.53.180722_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.17.9". With jessie there will only S0, S1, S2 displayed and Im Working with S1 (Uart1) and S2 (Uart2) from the 13 Pinheader. With Bionic and also Stretch i got S0, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7 and none of them is working. So how can I access the Uart1 and Uart2 with the new Bionic build?

When the system call # /sbin/fstrim --all the process enters intermittent sleep, and all the following processes gradually obtain the same state. In crontab it appears as a task of the # fstrim -v / system, the same command if I do it manually also has the same result of never ending and blocking the other processes little by little until the system is totally blocked. Can it be disabled? As a check that is compatible with the microsd? Any recommendation?

I am successfully using Armbian Current on my Banana Pi. I have a 120GB usb SSD drive. I'd like to boot from it - my other Banana Pi with the same system boots from SATA connected HDD no problem. When I boot the device, I can see the drive using sudo fdisk -l as /dev/sda1 I can also get the UUID and everything. I've modified the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file and changed the UUID, but I can't get the machine to boot. I tried also to change the UUID to /dev/sda1. Didn't help either. When I boot with HDMI connected, I can see the kernel iterating through USB bus and the result is "no USB storage device found" and that's it. …

Dear community, Im trying to get an USB gadget via OTG running on Linux (OrangePI Lite 2). As OPI Lite 2 doesn't support 'USB-UART/Gadget mode' like OPI Zero, I just modify the build config and rebuild kernel by myself as steps shown below. 1. I change the mode of USB from host to otg in the: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/patch/kernel/sunxi-current/board-h6-orangepi-lite2-fix-missing-all.patch 2. I add MODULES_CURRENT="g_serial" & SERIALCON="ttyS0,ttyGS0" to build/config/boards/orangepilite2.conf file. 3. I rebuild the kernel and flashed the new image to sdcard. Unfortunately, I find it…

Hi Armbians In the last years I had the pleasure to have more then 30 Cubietruck boards in my hands to work with. Condition of the boards ranged from "new and still sealed" to "working but has been running for some months 24/7 alraedy". In this time, I learned a lot about this hardware and I learned that none of them seems to be 100% like any other of them. While one board crushes immediately when the power input goes under 5V for some secounds, another board in the same condition, same CT version and production date seems not to care about this and keeps working. One of the most important points for stability is the network plug used. So what netwo…

Hello -- bringing in conversation from https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/5726#issuecomment-1817668480 as requested. @viraniac -- I've attached the dmesg output from a fresh flash of the quadra SD image -- which is just armbian checked out at `90c05ba` with this patch applied: https://www.inovato.net/build/quadra.patch . Build instructions from the founder are at https://forum.inovato.com/post/building-armbian-from-source-12449428?pid=1333459893 Curiously the dmesg output almost looks truncated to me -- doesn't start with `Booting Linux on physical`, and I see a few xradio message but no results for 819. I've rebooted and get similar output wit…

Hello, I have an Orange Pi PC with Armbian. I like the distribution very much, but I face a strange problem. After around 5 minutes of use I cannot longer open applications. When I switch to tty I see the following error: end_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk0, sector 3477952 mmcblk0: timed out sending r/w cmd command , card status 0xe00 mmcblk0: not retrying timeout At first I thought the problem was in the SD card, I scanned it - no bad sectors. Then I tried with the card from my Raspberry Pi which works perfectly with it. I copied the image with DD and I had the same error again. What could the problem be? A software one, or something in the power supply, becau…

Hi there, I've received 4 NanoPi Neo (with heatsinks as suggested by @tkaiser) recently. Here is my my first impression and also I've come across some minor issues. I hope It would be useful. I've installed Armbian_5.27.170403_Nanopineo_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.10.3. Also tried dietpi (kernel 3.4) and h3-mainline-ubuntu-core-qte-sd4g-beta-20170228.img (FrendlyArm, kernel 4.10) So far for good. Armbian works like a charm I have been able to install Docker and I've performed some simple tests. Awesome job guys! I've found one issue so far MAC address changes at every reboot. The issue was mentioned in some threads on the …

Hi all, I'm trying to use an Orange Pi PC Plus to drive an RS485 serial converter and ultimately talk Modbus to a sensor device. I have managed to get flow control enabled on the port, but the polarity of the RTS signal is active LOW, whereas the converter I have requires active HIGH. Is there any way to invert the polarity of the RTS pin for the UART? I think it can be done via ioctl call in C programs, but I need this applied at a system level to be compatible with some third party software. Thanks in advance!

I am currently trying to upgrade my kernel from 3.4 to 4.14 and it is working quite well for my needs. But i have a problem i have not found a solution for, i can not set the PE00-11 pins as gpios. Acutally i cant set or configure them at all. I am using the /sys/class... export and writing via echo direction and value. For all other GPIOs it works perfectly fine exept for those 12 (and the IR0-pins PB3 and PB4, those are also not accessible). I tried really a lot already: stripping down the kernel to only the most essential modules, deactivating almost everything in the dts file, using different images... but in essence, as soon as i c…

The 1-bay NAS kit v1.2 has an RTC with option to add CR2032 button cell to keep HW time when system is shut down. But running `timedatectl` when device is booted in offline mode shows RTC is set to 1970-01-01 00:00:00 which defeats the purpose of having the option of CR2032. And yes, the button cell have juice; I've bought it a week ago and tested it before putting it in the kit.

I’ve been running Armbian from an SSD for a while using this guide: https://jamesachambers.com/orange-pi-zero-2-usb-ssd-boot-guide/ Recently, after running apt update && apt full-upgrade, the following issues have occurred: 1. Wi-Fi adapter is no longer detected. 2. CPU utilization exceeds 80% when accessing the Gnome launcher or starting GUI apps (e.g., a web browser, even without opening a webpage). 3. The system becomes laggy and nearly unusable, noticeable when moving the mouse. Are there recent changes to Armbian that affect SSD booting? Is there a workaround for these issues?

Since updating to the (vanilla) 4.3.3 kernel, my Cubietruck has not read the real-time clock at boot time. This causes all log messages to show "Jan 1 01:00:10" until the NTP daemon kicks in. It also causes cron to remain confused about daylight savings until it is restarted. Looking at the release history at http://www.armbian.com/logbook/I see that v4.81 / 28.12.2015 includes a fix for a "Jessie RTC bug". Unfortunately it seems that this release has introduced an RTC bug! What was the fix, and is there an option I can use to reverse it? Before the update the boot messages looked like this: Jan 14 00:45:07 localhost kernel: [ 0.000000] Linux version…

Hi, 1st of all, thanks for the excellent job on Armbian so far, really feels very solid compared to most other distros. Here is my little problem: Installed Armbian_5.14_Orangepipc_Debian_jessie_3.4.112_desktop Realtek RTL 8188 plugged in into any USB port Followed Rudolfos tutorial Reboot - wireless works flawlessly Update via apt-get update/upgrade --> 8188 still recognized, but board locks up or reboots when I try to connect to an AP I am right now preventing updates to 5.14 as per attachement, but this is obviously not a preferred solution. The driver used is the 8192cu,the device ID is 0bda: 8176 Realtek 8188cus. Any directions? Best, -Thomas

I got an OrangePi Pc, and I see that Mali GPU frequency has been rolled back to 252 Mhz, or at least the kernel is saying so in dmesg. I took a look into the changelog, the frequency has been increased to nominal 600 Mhz in armbian v5.15, but now I installed a fresh 5.20, upgraded to latest packages and I see that kernel initializes the GPU at 252 Mhz. I found no traces of this rollback in the changelog. As I'm currently testing the SBC as a desktop replacement, I'm guessing if the increased gpu frequency could be of any benefit to the interface snappiness.

i make this post to ask why my orange pi zero reaches easy 85 degrees with a heatsink applied to it. It is placed in a big case. I'm actually using the orange pi zero as a flight tracker, which is a very cpu and Wi-Fi intensive task, but i think that 86 degrees are too much!!

Hi I am new in the forum and the happy owner (as of yesterday) of an Orange Pi Lite. Nice little board. I managed to install Armbian server, configure Wi-Fi upgrade and install apache / php and mrtg. I also was able to enable one wire protocol to play around with a DS18B20 thermometer. My idea is to create an automated garden watering system with nice stats (graphs) I already have a 4 channel relay board (to connect solenoid water valves), a DS18B20 to sense temperature, an LDR to graph sunlight hours and 4 hygrometers --moisture sensors--. Those I want to connect through an I2C ADS1115 ADC module (which I also already have). …

I got an Orange Pi PC with Armbian Ubuntu Desktop installed. It runs perfectly fine. 1080p resolution, sound, ethernet, browsing, what-have you. It can even play x265 videos flawlessly (which is why I got it for as my RPi3 can't). Highest temp is 46C so far (with or without a heat sink and no fan). Anyway, I've updated and upgraded and then installed Kodi. My media is on my NAS, so I input my SMB info, and it connects fine. But as it reads the media, Kodi just shuts off on its own. No crash report or anything. It just closes and I'm back on the desktop. Re-opening it starts Kodi up for a sec and then closes itself. Deleting the user folder under a Kodi directo…

Hi, I'm still experimenting with different "Linuxes" on that boards.. to get an LCD Display (LVDS) and the Ethernet part working. It cost me days to figure out that there seems to be an ugly glitch. with the stone age "cb2-dvk-sdcard-lubuntu-lcd v1.0.img" I get an working X11 Desktop with 800x480 ..but Ethernet doesn't work. I've checked those fex files (script.bin, script.fex) but couldn't figure out what's going on. I think that doesn't interest someone besides me, ok., got that. Now I've tried the actual "Armbian_community 24.5.0-trunk.667 Jammy with Linux 6.6.31-current-sunxi" that I've downloaded from somewhere here (…

Hi, when I connect my external HDD - an Icy Box IB-RD2253-U31 (http://www.raidsonic.de/products/external_cases/soho_raid/index_en.php?we_objectID=3239) - to my Bananapi M1, running ARMBIAN 5.31 (stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.11.6-sunxi) the hard disk is not found. This is regardless of the HDD setup chosen, at least I tried with the two disks inside configured as JBOD as well as RAID1. After connecting the USB HDD, dmesg doesnt show any output, lsblk doesnt show it. Is there anything I can do about it to get it working, is it a firmware issue?

Hello, I recently bought an Orange PI Lite and wanted to connect it to my WiFi (WPA2 - Personnal) to run a CUPS server. So I connected it to my computer via the serial pins and tried to connect it to my network using nmtui. That looked like it worked well if only a bit laggy at first. But after rebooting it i noticed it was totally unreachable from any other device on the network. So I started pinging everything and started noticing weird stuff : After a reboot Nothing can ping the orange pi unless he pinged them first. When pinging another device from the pi, the first few packets are lost and all following are ~1ms. …

Hello, I am trying to boot Armbian on a stock Orange Pi Plus 2 which has stock Android installed to its eMMC. I perform the following steps: 1. Download the Armbian Stretch mainline kernel 4.14.y (https://dl.armbian.com/orangepiplus/Debian_stretch_next.7z). 2. We have deployed the zero for an integrated MCU on one of our products, and in rare occasions we are experience random lockups of the MCU (possibly related to overheating). Its pretty much impossible to debug this since it happens very rarely, but we are trying to mitigate all possible causes. The MCU is controlling a bigger and more expensive board and a fan. If there are internal failsafes that are being triggered by the MCU and locking it up (like temp) we want to disable as many of them as possible (we would rather have the MCU burn up than our main board). Anyone have any insights on orange pi zero OTP or OCP in kernel or uboot parameters we can disable?

Can anyone provide any information on getting the GPU driver working with a Banana Pi M2 Zero? It supposedly has a Mali 400 GPU. In my tests, it seems I am stuck with Mesa software rendering with OpenGL. When I write a program that creates an OpenGL 2.0 ES context, the vendor and renderer both list Mesa and performance is terrible (2-10 fps and GLSL shaders are incorrect) when rendering even the simplest scenes. I am using DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) with boots straight to a CLI and no desktop environment if that makes any difference. With the same code and same conditions on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, OpenGL works perfectly in my tests. I am usin…

I finally decided to give armbian a try on my Orange Pi One. Started without any issue and then I noticed that the 50°c idle. Sounds a bit high. I compliled mplayer with j3 and saw the temperature reaching 90°c then throttling down the frequency to 600MHz with a temperature of 70°c. Ultimately this board is nowhere faster than a RPI2 if it is stuck to 600MHz under heavy load. Or my Orange PI One has a serious problem. Any advice?

(from 75 ro 67) in OPi/H3 under the same heavy workload with same performance! If there has not been any other temperature modificatioin done then this thumb2 change is definitively towards the right direction. Kudos guys!

Hi, I have noticed very strange behaviour of my OrangePi PC Plus. Device is connected to internet via Wifi. After successful connection, device is connected to VPN service. A cron script is checking every minute if VPN is working, and if not, it is restarting connection. On every hour, Network Manager is being restarted (you will see why is that so later). On every minute NTP is querryed for time synchronisation. After VPN restart or rebooting of device, device sends an e-mail notification via GMail. On eth0 there is DHCP server running (dnsmasq), which is providing internet to a device connected to OrangePi. So basically, you plug in ethernet cabl…

Hi, I'm using an hdd at my cubietruck and moved the root-fs to hdd. Now I'm wondering, whether it would be better, to change the commit settings in /etc/fstab to a lower value than 600? What do you mean? Thanks and best regards, Jochen

First, thanks to everyone here who made this great os. I am trying to read a DS18B20 temperature sensor on my orange pi pc, but I can't get it to work.
