Has anyone had any success with running a current/semi current OS and the NAS/RTC Enclosure/Hat from FriendlyElec. I was never impressed with the NAS/OpenMediaVault image that shipped with the board/hat. I have attempted to strip OMV out of the device and move the device forward with some success. The the Kernel is stuck at v4.14.52. But I would prefer to load a clean current OS and potentially use the correct overlays to enable the extra USB Ports, USB to SATA Bridge and RTC features. Question is does anyone have any information/guide to use a current version of Armbian/Community and the correct overlay file(s) to allow the the JMicron USB to SATA interface and …

  2. Hi, I am new here and searched the forums for an answer to my questions regarding the NanoPi NEO2 and NEO Plus2. Most answers I could find, but a few were left open. The NEO Plus2 is marked as WIP. Why? What do I have to expect not to work? Both boards are similarly old, from what I could find. Will the Plus2 move up to "supported" eventually or does it currently more look like the route is going towards CSC? Do common features like GPIO access, SPI, I2C ... work with current images? Do specific features where the Plus2 differs from the NEO2 like WiFi, Bluetooth, ... work? I already found out, that the second USB port should work…

Hi, I recently got a NanoPI NEO2 v1.0. I am able to load the Linux images using SD card and login using debug UART. But I am facing a strange issue where I need to disconnect USB power AND debug UART GND to switch off/on the board. I am using PL2303 UART module and connected the Tx, Rx and GND (verified using board diagram in wiki). Basically to completely reset the board, I also need to disconnect the UART GND. Is this expected? The LED is always on from beginning of boot till UART GND is disconnected (on even with USB power off). I have also verified that the board boots up only using UART 5V and without USB power, but I would to continue using U…

Hi all, I'm currently running Armbian 5.36 Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.11.1-sun50iw2. This was / is a local armbian build that I performed a few months ago to resolve an issue that I saw at that time in the network stack that prevented ipsec working correctly. I've performed apt update / apt upgrade since however cat /proc/version still reports the version as that which I manually built back in June. Fast forward to today and I'd like to try out some traffic shaping tc rules but I'm running into some difficulty, which is making me doubt if my kernel has the support needed for iproute2. The following works without any issue to list existing rul…

  5. Hi, i could control the OTG micro USB port power on my NanoPi Neo (H3) by exporting and writing to GPIO 354 (line 2 of GPIO chip with base 352) I'm using Kernel V6.6.62 and I created a tiny device tree overlay defining. Excerpt below: usb@1c19000 { dr_mode = "host" } usb0-vbus { status = "okay" } This works fine! For test purposes, I switched to a NanoPi Neo2 (H5) with Kernel 6.6.62 (64 bit). Here, the OTG port is powered on and is usable by default without any overlay. But the on/off control does not work anymore. All attempts to export GPIO 354 give "write error: Device or resource busy". Schematics show no circ…

Hello, first of all many thanks to all the community that keeps this project alive. I recently bought a NanoPi NEO2 board and of course decided to drop the OS provided by Friendlyarm and give a try to Armbian's Ubuntu build for this board. Everything seems to work just fine, however I'm unable to get a reading on the CPU Frequency. I tried multiple tools and commands but somehow all end up with something like "cpuinfo_cur_freq: No such file or directory. For instance, here is the output of armbianmonitor: armbianmonitor -m Stop monitoring using [ctrl]-[c] Time CPU load %cpu %sys %usr %nice %io %irq CPU/usr/bin/armb…

  8. Hello, I'm running rsync to backup a VPS to an USB hard drive on the neo2 and sometimes rsync just stops with "read error from input device (I/O error)". I believe this issue happens when rsync is causing high load in the USB disk, writing or removing a large number of files or trying to write a big file. Notes: The hard drive is on a self powered enclosure - so power failure is not really an option here I also have Apache and mariadb storing data on the USB disk and I never had this kind of I/O errors with it OS: Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 (stretch) Drive is ext4 Whenever rysnc stops I get this under /var/log/messages:…

  9. Hello, I am going to buy this unit, becuase I am lookig for a cheap board with bluetooth and camera input included. NanoPi Neo Air seems to be the best choice (and the only - talking about cheap board). Anyway, did someone play with its bluetooth interface programming? I try power the board without SD card for the first time and i see that friendlyWRT already installed but i would like to use a general OS. Since i can't download the official OS from friendlyelec, i saw that armbian is another way and might be better. I follow all step in quick start guide page, and can't even get my board boot up. 11. I am having problems with the NanoPi R1. I loaded the latest Armbian for R1 on flash. All works good. I went to armbian-config to load into eMMC. The last step of the process had weird text on the dialog, I clicked "OK" anyway, and the process seemed to be working. But after removing uSD card and rebooting, the board does not work. The red led stays on solid. Did anyone successfully burn the image from uSD to eMMC using the tool in armbian-config?

  14. Hi, We've built a network experimentation system using NanoPi R1 modules, but when load testing the system with iperf3, we are seeing the on-board RTL8152 interface enter a state where it does not seem to be responding until the board is power cycled. The system consists of 32 NanoPi modules connected in a torus, with the 1Gig interface connected to its neighbour's 100Mbit interface. An additional USB Ethernet dongle functions as a control interface. The modules are powered from a Ubiquiti PoE switch, using this type of isolated PoE splitter. Eyeballing the switch UI, power consumption per node seems to hover between 2.3W-3.5W, depending on load. W…

Hi! Just saw a new board from FriendlyARM - NanoPi R1 (https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69&product_id=248). It based on Allwinner H3, has dual Ethernet port, wi-fi and Bluetooth, USB, and onboard eMMC. Memory options are 512MB or 1GB. It comes in a case, just add power supply. Looks quite fun SBC for IoT and for micro router. I was unable to find Armbian images for this board. Could you please comment if is it possible to use images for other Allwinner H3 boards? Do you have any plans to support this board? Thank you in advance for your comments!

  18. Hi, After installing latest version of Armbian 5.59 Stretch, I found that CPU temperature was shooting up too high, and I figured out that the GPIOL6 controlling the VDD_CPUX between 1.1V and 1.3V is not set properly as a result the Pullup resistor R455 is holding the FET gate always high and it is always running by default at 1.3V, even though scaling_max_freq was set 912MHz. After manually switching the GPIO to OUTPUT_LOW the temperatures aren't going that high anymore. Just thought the DEVs should know. Thanks

But running `timedatectl` when device is booted in offline mode shows RTC is set to 1970-01-01 00:00:00 which defeats the purpose of having the option of CR2032. And yes, the button cell have juice; I've bought it a week ago and tested it before putting it in the kit.

Hi, After reading a post about NAS for allwinner, I need some advices: So far I have same performance on my raspberry pi b+ and my orangepi2e : 2 hard drives 2 To 2,5" usb on a powered hub. (approx 11 Mb/s max through AFP/nfs share). Gigabit does not seem to be the bottleneck on the pi since it does not impact my bit rates. My question is simple : can I have better performance if I make a RAID via btrfs ? Do I have to format my hard drives ? What is the best distro ? (I used armbian but does not seem very stable compared to the raspberry, what about ubuntu server, or raspbian ?) Thanks

  34. OPiPC2, with Armbian Bionic desktop mainline based kernel 4.19.y Using it as headless server, all X and desktop stuff removed. Using PuTTY to log in via SSH, line drawing stuff (as usual) only works if translation is set to ISO-8859-1 in PuTTY. mc looks great, but all ncurses-based software (aptitude, htop, bmon etc) does not. Main problem seems that horizontal spacing is "shrunk" whenever there is no text to keep it: This is even more dramatic for menu systems and anything that is column-oriented. Tried dpkg-reconfigure locales to switch system to ISO-8859, but no change, really seems to be an ncurses bug. No such problem…

  47. I need/want USB ethernet via OTG. I've wasted over 16 hours trying to get the g_ether module to work. A prominent poster told me that all recent Armbian images have this ability, just follow the directions... It's not. The OTG connection currently shows up as a USB serial gadget, but I want a USB Ethernet gadget.

I could build the kernel with the real time patch by disabling newer kernel patches, .108 and on, but I would really like to have a ticking system. There are not options for this in the kernel menu configuration. Just tickless system. That may cause some extra delays on realtime processes. Is there a way to configure tick frequency at 1khz? I have recently updated to Armbian Focal (Ubuntu 20.04). My Banana Pi M1 is running an apache server + some digital amateur radio stuff. So upload speed is important. My average download and upload speed as measured with speediest-cli is 45Mb/sec and 18Mb/sec respectively (wired connection to modem) With Focal I get these speeds with Buster (Debian 10) the download speed is still 45Mb/sec but the upload speed drops to 3.4 Mb/sec. These results are not one off but consistent. The am64 version of Buster does exactly the same thing.. My question is : can I change this with programming or is it a fixture in the kernel ? Can someone enlighten me please ? Rein

Hi, I'm using NetBIOS names when using ssh to access other CTs on my local network. Most of the CTs and other hosts are running Wheezy. Now I have a CT running Stretch and it's very difficult to access this host using 'ssh <stretch host name>' because it's not responding to the broadcas from the calling host. If I repeat the request (and broadcast for the name) multiple times then sooner or later the Stretch CT will respond in time. The timeout on the host doing the broadcast seems very short. Does anybody know where this timeout is specified and how to change it ? Thanks, Steven

For NM TUI it is 'Unable to save connection: Insufficient privileges.', and similar for the other methods. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to diagnose and/or fix this? I'm running some stress test on the NanoPi neo2 512mb, CPU heating reached 75-76 degrees, and it's stable, the problem that I faced is that the computer changed it's IP suddenly (after 55 minutes of test running), I guess it's because of a network card reset. Did anyone face the following issue? Is it related to the stress test? Or it's another networking problem? The test I'm running is with the "stress" tool, running long time stress on 4 CPUs. In addition, does anyone have any insights regarding this device? good or bad?

  97. I was able to write to a Samsung sd card the image for my orange Pi lite. The overscan is bad on my TV but I got past initial setup. Once it boots to the desktop there is no response from the mouse and I thought the keyboard. No keyboard shortcuts work. But I was able to drop to terminal and type. What could be going on? I've tried different cards, keyboards, and mice. Edit: I've tried different power supplies too!

  98. Hello and thanks in advance. I have installed the IMG Debian Wheezy With kernel 3.4.x, when income Rpi monitoring tells me I have 11 upgradeable packages, but if I run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade returns me that there is nothing to update. Moreover Igor saw yesterday published an update, it is possible to upgrade without reinstalling everything? The problem that I have and which I intend to upgrade is that once a day or once every two days or ethernet banana itself hangs and can not access until I restart the banana pi. Thank you very much and apologize for using google translator.

  99. I bough an Orange Pi PC set 9 which came with a camera ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Orange-Pi-PC-set-9-Pi-PC-and-Camera-with-wide-angle-lens-not-for-raspberry/32662572137.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.dIEdek ) After setting up armbian running etc. how do I do something with the camera (ie to see it works)? I have used raspberry and there I just type "raspistill -d" and a demo pops up. How do I do something like that? After browsing around I found that "modprobe gc2035" is along those lines but I only get "command not found". Doing a linux find does not find "modprobe". I reckon I have to install something else but what?

So we get the Banana Pi M2+ killer soon it seems, just stumbled accross the 'NanoPi M1 Plus' in FriendlyARM repo: https://github.com/friendlyarm/h3_lichee/blob/master/tools/pack/chips/sun8iw7p1/configs/nanopi-h3/boards/sys_config_nanopi_m1_plus.fex According to fex file we get: H3 with primitive voltage regulation (1.1V/1.3V) and therefore 1200 MHz max eMMC AP6212 Wi-Fi/BT 40 pin header identical to M1 2 leds as usual (red/blue) Gigabit Ethernet 24 pin camera connector compatible to M1/Air 1 x USB OTG, 3 x host 2 x host (maybe the 3rd host port somewhere on headers) I would assume same board layout as NanoPi M1 now but one USB type A receptacle less and there the e…
